Xtrons 4G LTE Modem Reset and hidden software - MTCD Hardware Development

I bought one of these last week and had forgotten the WIFI password already. Anyway Xtrons sent me this..
Hi Matt,
To reset, you must connect to the computer, operate on the computer, after inserting the computer, a U disk will be displayed on the computer, double-click the disk to install a software, after the installation is complete, the desktop will generate the icon of the software, double-click the software to enter You can reset it, there are several options in it, it is easy to find.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.
Works like a champ.

Is it an MTCD device?
The made up 'brand" Xtrons sell all number of head units from lots of different chinese factories.

He is talking a bout a modem from xtrons. Seems he drives the modem with a SIM card and connect it via WiFi to the head unit.
Nothing related to the head unit itself.

Hidden Wifi/GPS - Possibility to unlock?

I'm starting this thread to research the hidden possibilities in the HTC Touch Dual (nike). Alot of questions have been asked about wifi capabilities in the dual and how they may be there just locked by the manufacturer. I hope this thread will help us answer wether further capability is unlockable via roms, cabs, drivers, or registry changes.
In an article about the upcoming WM6.1 I found these interesting finds.
http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=707
"Qualcomm see the decreasing cost of the smartphone spurring growth in adoption of these devices. Steve talked about the Qualcomm/Microsoft collaboration effort and the MSM 7xxx series of chipsets we see in today’s latest and greatest devices. These chipsets include GPS, media, applications processors and more in a single, low battery consumption configuration. There are several variants of their chips in mobile devices today with some having everything inside and some having limitations desired by the manufacturer or carrier for various reasons (cost, size of the device, targeted market, etc)."
The HTC Touch Cruise (polaris) has GPS & Wifi with the Qualcomm® MSM 7200, 400MHz processor - The same processor the HTC Touch Dual (nike) has. There would be no reason to use additional hardware in the Polaris if the processor provides this capability.
already posted at other thread that when someone installs the various cabs that people are trying, when we go to wlan settings mac adress doesn't appear.
Usualy appears even when wifi is off.
Regarding gps i tried using google maps to see if detects something but the only com port that kinda works is com 7 but it turns bluetooth on, so it must be a bluetooth port...
Here you have a link for the japanese version that will be available in january.
NO GPS, but has WIFI and FM RADIO.
wouldn't mind having fm radio on my nike!!!!

There's neither WiFi nor FM radio in the japanese version. PDAdb.net is just wrong (as many times before).

And what are they talking about FM? Someone speaking Japanese?
if you tranlate the page you can see the word FM appearing...

IT HAS FM RADIO
Chainfire:
Just wondering if you could post a RegDump (possibly directory/file listing) of your Kaiser?
I think we are still missing some registry entires.
One such entrie:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\WLAN]
"DeviceName"="{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\TNETW12511"
If I know how to extract files from Rom's I'd probably stand a better chance at all this.
Wifi -> theres already a lot of discussion on another thread
this thread has been dealing with wifi hidden capacities (or not)

It does indeed seem to have an FM radio. It doesn't change much, though (hardware-wise at least, as you would have to use the headset as an antenna).
My point is, don't trust blindly on PDAdb.net. You can find many errors if look around in there (though most of it seems to be right).

Heh you are right, I did miss that one. Can't make a complete listing right now but I can send you a comparison between the two devices I made yesterday.. In these files 'M' stands for missing and 'D' stands for different... If you send me back two files with only the lines of the files and registry entries you want I can make it into a patch by pressing a button...
I'll try sending you a full listing and dump (instead of the compare files from yesterday) later today.

Hi, thanks for that, it would seem that there are quite a few registry keys missing, I've only searched for GPS keys so far, the main ones needed for interfacing with the GPS driver seem to be missing.
But even after going though and making my own registry file, GPS still does not work, nothing appears on com 4.

yep think its comm 7 on the dual
I think registry keys and DLLs won't help in this case. The MSM7200 GPS function should be enabled by a low level hardware driver that is probably loaded after reset before the OS comes on. Then the OS either sees the GPS port or not. An expert's help is thus needed in this case.
As for WIFI, someone mentioned the lack of MAC address for the WIFI. Again - this is a HW issue as the MAC address is coded in ROM (unerasable part of the FLASH) just like IMEI. And if it is not there to begin with... hmmm...
But we can certainly look for one if we have access to the ROM code - it is a 6-digit number that should begin with 00h 18h 41h. If we correlate a few devices that have this string in the same location than maybe there is something to it (WiFi included).
I was trying GPS test, it scanned all com ports, it did halt on Com7, but now it just skips it.
I think a hard reset and start again is in order.

That web page also indicates that GSM850 is supported. For a USA user, that would be the most important thing of all. There has been some speculation that the phone can support GSM850 now. Perhpas the Japanese ROM will turn it on.
I have an htc s640 (iris 100) has the exact same specs as the HTC Touch and my wifi is enabled. i know it has GPS but its disabled. if you need anything from my registry id be happy to help. only difference between these phones that i can tell is the touch screen. rest of the specs seem to be the same.

Sony Security

Hi Guys,
First post here so I could'nt post in the relevent thread. It has been noticed that there is a switch on the Tablet S PCB that apparently disconnects the battery, I've opened up many devices over the years and have never seen that before - very strange if you ask me. Might be of interest to some to note that the Sony PSP used an anti hacking method that utilised the battery !!, so we may be on to something here.
On PSP a hacked battery is called "pandora battery". It is not a switch. The battery has four contacts. Two of them are the voltage contacts plus and minus and two of them send a serial signal code. With the right code, the PSP boot in a special (hidden) recovery menu. Do you have more information about the tablet battery and the switch? Pictures available?
Wouldn't the relevant thread be the ones you found out about on it?
original discovery of switch here (with pictures)
Then I brought it up in the dev thread about APX mode here
And yes it exists... can confirm it's there (at least on my 16gb model anyway)
My thoughts are is that there would be a factory cable used here (similar to the motorola factory cable) and they need to disconnect the battery for it to function as it should.
And a hunch that it could very well have something to do with APX mode, however... since people have stumbled into APX mode completely by accident with no hardware commands, that kind of contradicts that thought.
I don't have any info on the battery or the switch, I was just pointing out the strangeness of having a switch to disconnect the battery, nothing else I have ever looked at has this feature. (and I've opened up a lot of devices)
It just makes me think that there is a need to easily and repeatedly disconnect the battery during the manufacturing / assembly / repair process.
For example, does the system "know" when the battery has been disconnected and allow different operations ? - fastboot perhaps ?
I know this is all supposition and it may mean nothing at all - but the feature is bugging me - it cost money to implement and I can't help but feel it's there for a reason.
System woiuld'nt let me reply in thread I was reading - said dev section was for expert users only ??

I thought of this too but then went on to think that there's probably no way such a thing would transfer accross do android/unix codes like that. ie they use android kernels and stuff, they don't make the whole thing themselves. Plus they realised the vulnerability of it and removed it in models like the psp 3000 and go (not sure about 2000).

Early PSP-2000 models still had the vulnerability.

You're actually pretty close, I think. Android would be perfectly capable of receiving certain boot codes, but these are far more likely to be wired to the more capable micro-USB port as in just about every other Android device. While an Android kernel could theoretically receive serial codes from almost anywhere given the right instructions, Sony would probably not do this. As mentioned, the PSP's ability in this regard caused many problems.
As mentioned by the others, if someone could post some good hi-res shots of the battery and surrounding PCB or something like that, that would make it much easier.
Sony's philosophy has always been that the end user should use the product as it was built and the purpose it was built for.
They've always made hacking and rooting very difficult for users. They don't like their products being tampered with.
I can understand where they are coming from, but at the end of the day, with many phones and tablets, if root techniques and mods aren't available, many users won't buy the goods.
All PSP models, including the 3000 series, excluding the go have been cracked.

pandora battery worked for psp 1000 and psp 2000 before the TA-088 V3 motherboard, all the next models where hacked by firmware homebrew enabler, but not by battery mod..

Just to clear things up, what works on the PSP will not, generally speaking, work on the Tablet S. They are different hardware, with different interfaces to different firmware which runs completely different software.
If we can get a look at the PCB in closer detail where the battery connects we might be able to see if there are any serial pins, but I doubt there will be. No other Sony product since has featured it (to my knowledge).

Android Car Stereo (AN6B01)

I purchased an android based car stereo a few months ago and am thinking about trying to cook a rom for it.
I am inexperienced in cooking, but am quite computer savy. Also am new to posting here, so if this is in the wrong area I apologize.
I know there isn't going to be much interest, but I thought maybe I would post some info here and see what I get. I think decks may be heading in this direction and some input would be great.
The only real downside so far to the unit is that it has a somewhat outdated os and boot time is that of a phone. So speeding up the boot time and upgrading the os would be top priority.
The deck is an Adayo AN6B01. Came stock with 2.2 froyo. I cannot post links being that I am new so here's the best I could do.

Other Names for this Unit
Just to aggregate the names that I found for this same unit over the web:
ADAYO AN6B01
AIKON AK-010A
OttoNavi K1
Nakamichi NMMC-1300
Rydeen DV621
HiTV iDroid 8000
There's a good review from Nils Schneider at (t * co/qC7uy8Lk)
On my tests Gingerbreak 1.1 or 1.2 are not able to root the unit
The unit is great, it has some minor issues on Reverse Camera Mask that I´d like to correct on Camera.apk, but seems that without root I'll not be able to reinstall the modified application.
Another issue is the 3G modem compatibility. It´s not any modem that works with it... a good reason to root the unit and check some logs...
From my experience with a similar unit from Dynavin, everything is peachy until you try to add in support for the touch screen drivers which are closed source - or at least were on my unit. This is the only thing that has halted previous attempts to upgrade to a newer version of android.

the unit looks great , but being a rooted galaxy s3 user i am also very interested in being able to upgrade this unit
ill keep an eye on this forum and when i recieve my head unit , will post as much info as possible to try and help in any way i can
Good to see there is a thread about the radio. I wrote the review mentioned above some weeks ago.
How did you get this update to version 1.19? My dealer didn't inform me about any update. I'm just downloading and will try it out this weekend.
Hopefully I don't brick the unit, as my branding is Nakamichi.
Rooting the unit would be very nice.
I currently work on an app that listens to the iSteering events and translates them into regular media keys, a first test already succeeded.

Hello Lyve,
I got my Nakamichi 1300 Android yesterday. I have made some program installations outside car and want to install it at Saturday. Do you have made the 1.19 update from K1 unit? Does it work and do you have found important chnages? Thanks for an answer.

Damn, so someone's already done it, eh? Making something like this has been on my mind for years now, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised it's already been made. I was thinking of using a nano-itx atom-based board and android on x86, but arm is so much better supported so that's good.
'Nuff about my idea, have you opened this unit up? Do you have the wifi adapter for it? I wonder if you can find any open ports by scanning that wifi adapter's IP. Maybe you could telnet to it lol. I see it has USB... do you have a USB serial dongle? There has to be some way to get an adb shell at least, I would think. I asked about opening it up because many embedded devices will have some headers on their mainboard for a serial or USB connection.
Cool stuff, let us know what else you find out about it and good luck.
Edit: I'm going to download the firmware update and see if I can find out anything from that... no promises though.
Hello tethrk,
WIFI adapter was included and works fine. I do not have opened the device because there are many warranty labels on it. I Paid 600€. When it gets defective, I do not want to have discussions with the dealer. I have no serial adapter for rooting the device, but I think this is a very interesting point. At the moment there is Android 2.2 on it. I found some apps who needs Android 4+ and can't run with 2.2. But anyway, I have installed yesterday in my car and it works really fine. One point is steering wheel control and hearing music when navigating. But I will try to make this working today. Google navigating and hearing music works, but Sygic and music not for example. Overall a nice expensive toy
Best regards
Andreas
Apparently that download contains a system image, but the filesystem used is ubifs. This means that I have to use some mtd hack to mount the image. Hopefully I can get to it tomorrow.

Hi,
I have checked the content from update 1.19. My files on device are the same date. So I have it installed in radio. I hope there comes a new update soon which I get from my dealer. Especially when the rear cam switched back and the radio traffic system switched back, I have some problems. Nomrally it should switch back to previous used source, but it does not. For example after traffic message has finished, it switch back to AUX2 but not to source I have heard before.

some news???
Hello everybody.
is there any news regarding the rooting of this device? I did realize that the hard reset (menu+back+power) did not work (as well as the reset button). Its hard to take the chances without having the possibility to restore the head unit to factory standards if something go wrong...
mine head unit is the AIKON AK-010a by the way.
The system seams really secured, there is no possibility even to change the dock apps. ;(
looking forward for some news.
everybody quit???
Hi guys,
lets put this thread back to live. I did find a way to receive the update data from the adayo an6b01.
Considering I do have an AIKON I would like to know how are my chances to brick the device going through the update.
I verify that some of my apks are "foryou" which are the same from the adayo.
Any tips?
Hi, I've had this unit for a few months now and I was able to root it using the z4root app that is available on the pay store. I haven't really done anything fancy except backup the files using titanium backup. I'm using the Adayo version by the way.
I too have just managed to root my device with z4 ...
I am currently working on a better launcher solution using " home simple " as a base and modifying it
Ill try and get some screens and post some stuff up tommorow...
Im really pleased this has rooted ok... now its time to mod the hell out of it

[Q] Ideas on how to root Telechips TCC8925 with no USB OTG

I purchased an Enco B046 Android-powered head unit for my car, and there are some things I'd love to be able to fix, if I could somehow acquire root access. Most importantly, the GPS functionality. Here's what I know about it:
1. It's a Telechips TCC8925
2. It only has one USB port (Female-A), and it appears to be Host-only. Hooking up a Male-A to Male-A cable between it and a PC, the PC doesn't detect anything on the other end. Hooking up an OTG cable between it and another Android device, the Enco B046 tries to mount the other Android as mass storage..
3. It's running ICS (4.0.4)
4. There's no pinout on the board for another USB port, nor any other pins that are giving +5vdc
5. It does have an SD slot and a card in it. It mounts and works fine.
It's relatively similar in size and form to this:
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/36988-cx-01-cortex-a5/
Since I can't connect to it via USB and control it with ADB, that eliminates all of the ways to root the device that I have come across.
The most important thing that I need to do is to update the framework.jar, as it suffers from an incorrect GetSpeed function that throws off pretty much every GPS application. It's calculating my land speed at 1.852% of the actual speed. I have fixed the error, and repackaged the framework.jar, but to updated it, alas, I need root access.
It's a shot in the dark, but without some sort of physical connectivity, I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas how I might acquire root on this thing, via software only? Or other ideas as to how I might be able to connect to it?
Thanks!
After further examination, the board has one button on it. If I hold it down during bootup, it goes to a black screen, but a red LED light stays on solid on the board. Generally, that light flashes. I'm wondering if that button doesn't enable FWDN, or Fastboot mode. Maybe that's the ticket.

No news yet. I do think I've figured out how to get into FWDN mode, so I should be able to take a complete backup of the NAND, etc. That doesn't do me a whole lot of good, though, since I don't think you can inject something into an FWDN image.
I suppose I could try to recompile it completely from source, but I'm not sure what all drivers are compiled into the current system, and have no experience doing anything of that nature with Android before.
I wish there were a magic "root" apk I could install, and be done with it!

As usual if we push hard enough and make enough noise on the forums we'll get there, if Charles has to refund every paypal customer because the GPS is crap....he'll find a way to get us root, it's as simple as that
Found this, I don't know if it can help but perhaps the guys who are playing with it can help you....
http://www.cnx-software.com/tag/telechips/
I think the button on the board may actually put it into FWDN mode, but the USB port configuration doesn't seem to allow the board to act in Device-Mode in any way. If you power it on while holding down the button, it seems to do something. The screen shows "NO SIGNAL" which is what would happen if it goes into FWDN mode. But, I can't get anything to communicate with it. It doesn't show up in device manager at all, on multiple PCs.
Looks like for now, our only hope is for someone to create an APK that somehow magically roots the thing. I'll go ahead and hold my breath.

Sure did just rooted my car stereo... had to update the Superuser app and a few others...... next task is to figure out what tweaks to build.prop i need to get all apps in play store.... especially the google apps.
FYI - after applying the update the screen flickered on the boot up. I reset the device (power cycled via the reset button) and then powered it back on and all is good!
I may be able to post some screen shots in a little bit if you like.....

attached is a picture of the Android Board inside the device.
WHOA!!! That bad boy is $800 now I only payed $378 shipped
For which car was it ? Because 800 is a bit expensive, we're at 450-500 for a BMW unit, look at www.szenco.com
Thanks a lot for the link anyway, I'll try that tonight....

Well, because of you it can be rooted now so the price went up the ceiling
I bought it to use in a 2005 Ford F-150
If you can pay for the gas you can pay 800 for the stereo

You're obviously new to this so I'd like to ask you not to do it. Flashing ROM or whatever you want to flash doesn't necessarily make your device better, also if you make a mistake - Usually that ends in bricking the device - then no one is responsible but you, and you'll have very hard time fixing the device.
Don't waste time and good working device for whatever reason you want to do this.
If you're still persistent on flashing your device may I know why you want to do it?

Yes I am newbie to these android boxes or tv boxes.
I purchased this box from local store 2 yrs ago. Not all channels stopped working. The box itself works (can't do much).
I wanted to delete whatever software they have installed and install basic Android, where I can install my own apps. Mostly iPTV smarter app.
that box right now is useless to me.
Is Linux box same as andriod? (sorry this could be a different question)
I believe they installed linux on Andriod box. Based on this, my menu looks just like this

What's your device model? There may be different ways to do it.
No, linux is obviously different from android box. Can't say which is better, but generally speaking I'd prefer android.

I came across HD100C box as well.
It's device specific so if you can't find the device model then I can't do much.
As for flashing you can only apply update which obviously doesn't do what you want, but you can try factory resetting. Some bloatware can be removed by factory resetting. Here is how.
Alternatively you can use SD card to apply update from it - Should you find the firmware - by following this guide.

I've been working with him on another site about this and have told him pretty much the same thing you have. This is his Device model HD-5301B IPMacro this is all I could find on it
CPU: RT6856 MediaTek SoC 700Mhz MIPS
OS: Androdi INNOXPLAY
It most certainly does not Have an Amlogic S905X in it. He want to flash it with custom firmware because it's a locked one provider box that he cannot sideload apk's to. Thing is there is just not a custom firmware out there for it. I've spent way more time looking for one for him than I wanted to but I'm a nice guy. I've told him to chalk it up as a learning experience. Don't buy one provider boxes and get something that's main stream that way you stand a better chance of doing things with it in the future.

Good people should really stop trying imo, like the more you try the more the dude you're talking to asks.
And usually just impudently asks for the unreasonable without doing any research whatsoever by themselves, how rude can someone get?
Anyway lemme give you and people like you a cookie. Don't actually listen to my opinion, good natured people like you are still needed.

thanks, I appreciate that. its a good learning experience.
One thing I wanted pull back from my post is that my box is not IPmacro 5301. IPmacro is just another vendor selling that box. I digg alot of other vendors. Such as NoorHDTV, unitedTV, catcast etc. they all have same box, but under different name.
Just found another vendor http://androidtvboxquadcore.org/201...an-400-channels-two-years-of-service-include/
See attached photo of the safe mode window. what is this URL used for? I do have a paid iPTV service, should I add that here? or should I add the m3u URL directly here?
my question is still outstanding, whether my box is android or Linux?

Thank you for the compliment I am good natured. I'm actually disabled and can't work anymore so helping people let's me feel I'm still useful in the world. lol I Have a TranSpeed 8K Ultra-HD S905X3 box that came with truly cheesy firmware so I set out on a mission to make the box as good as possible without a worry over ruining it. I wasn't going to use it as it was. After several failures trying to find a suitable firmware and bricking it several times I found the SlimBox Rom and am a happy camper.
Before I found the SlimBox I set out on a mission to take another firmware that worked good but wasn't set up for my wifi chip and remote configs and fix it myself. I got as far as getting it unpacked and finding the files I needed to do the fix but wasn't able to repack it. There just not a lot of good software out there for Android 9.0 or there wasn't at the time. Ok I'm rambling have a great evening.
I just connected my box using usb male cable and nothing is happening to USB burning tool or making any sound to my PC.
Did you find the reset button and have it pushed when you powered up the device?

I did. all it does, restarted my box. I can enter the safe mode menu/security menu by just pressing 0 few times at reboot, so I don't know how useful that button. Its hard too.
Disconnect the box completely from everything but the power. Have to the box shut off depress the reset switch then plug the usb into the USB 2.0 port on the box. Then the burner should detect the box. Make sure the USB cable is rated for data transfer and the you are plugged into USB 2.0 port on the PC.

I have this cable
QVS USB 3.1 (Gen 1 Type-A) Male to USB 3.1 (Gen 1 Type-A) Male Cable 3 ft. - Black - Micro Center
Get it now! This cable connects your computer to any USB device with Type A female port. Works with development boards that uses USB Type-A female ports including JTAG programming modules. It is USB 3.0/3.
www.microcenter.com
I have one cable for HDMI connected
Other is the power.
3rd is the USB male A to Male A
I noticed, even when the power cable is disconnected the box seems on because USB cable is connected.
Some people said, to press the reset button, then connect usb to PC? I did that too nothing happens.
If I have the wrong img file, it should still at least detect it?
You know that reminds me. It's been a good while since I've done this and my memory ain't what it used to be. disconnect the power also. You don't want the box connected to anything. Then press the reset and then connect the USB.

what else I should do? I am able to run the upgrade.bin file via USB from this website http://www.eweat.com/download/iptv-box-linux/
It does complets the upgrade process. but the software is still there. I tried downloading some other .bin file and tried, to run that as upgrade it failed. so I know that website upgrade.bin is correct.
The ROM is a Disk Image File. I Don't know what to tell you. I'm not going to help you brick the box. Maybe somebody else will chime in because this is above my knowledge level.
