Question Screen dims a lot in low light (ligh sensor poor sensitivity?) - POCO M4 Pro 4G - Redmi Note 11S 4G / POCO M4 Pro 4G (fleur)

Hello everyone, has anyone noticed that the light sensor of the Poco M4 Pro 4G seems to have poor sensitivity in very low light environments (compared to other models)?
In low-light environments, it dims the screen a lot (automatic adaptive brightness). Using the "Sensor Test" app or entering the MIUI Test Tols ( * # * # MIUI # * # *) -> light sensor, I compared the light sensor sensitivity of this model with two other models: Redmi Note 6 PRO and Poco X4 PRO 5G. I noticed that the sensor of the Poco M4 Pro 4G seems to be less sensitive in low light environments. For example, in the room with only the brightness of the TV, the Redmi Note 6 PRO detected 5lx and the Poco X4 PRO 5G about 10lx. The Poco M4 Pro 4G, zero lx.
In environments with a more light and outdoors, it works perfectly. Only when it is a place with very low light is it less sensitive. And that makes the screen darker more. I don't believe it's a hardware defect, because the sensor works normally and detects brightness variation. In environments with normal or external light, its sensor reading is close to that of other models.
Did you notice that too?

In my case it's either too bright or too dark. Tbh I'm yet to come accross a headset that has a flawless autobrightness feature. Maybe this just doesn't work well in the budget smartphone area. That's why I don't rely on the autobrightness at all, I keep changing the brightness as I feel.
At times it just dials down the brightness all of a sudden without any change in the light conditions, weird.
I have a feeling it's more of a software issue than a hardware one.

screen burn-in?

Anyone else have screen-burn in? I always use the ambient display. Recently I've noticed burn-in from the ambient display. Not noticeable when the screen is awake but definite discoloration in ambient mode.
All OLED displays experience burn-in. This is actually in the news right now due to the Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X. The only way to avoid it is to turn off the ambient display.
There are ways to mitigate burn-in to an extent, but it increases wear on the display.

What do you want in your next phone?

Having opted for a Mate 20 Pro (presumably because of things like battery life, cameras and in-screen fingerprint reader) and now that we're entering the 2019 release cycle (Galaxy 10's incoming, P30 Pro not too far away) what features do you want in your next phone?
- Hole punch camera or slider, or are you happy with a notch for proper facial recognition?
- An ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint reader?
- Better rear cameras with higher optical zoom?
- Drop the curved screen?
I'm talking about physical features rather than software related things like EMUI & locked bootloaders but, on that note, would you go for another Huawei knowing what you do about the M20Pro?

Better screen with no hw bugs
Faster on screen fingerprint reader
Better emui on huawei case
I think thats all, every spec in a smartphone nowsdays is more than enough. The only thing left is to take all of it and do it right with quality standards.

I'd like to see dual monitor support via HDMI when connected to EMUI desktop mode. (1920x1080)+(1920x1080)=3840x1080.
Also, if the EMUI desktop mode could permit direct SMS text messaging via desktop mode similar to that of Samsung DEX mode.
Ubuntu Linux on Huawei EMUI
I would like to see flagship phone that is less fragile. If phone like M20pro have charger this fast so wireless charging is not a necessity, at least give me an option for aluminium back. Also a phone with less or no compromises with under 1k price. I personally don't care about gimmicks like s pen or reverse charging etc. IR blaster is cool, I use it all the time. That's why I chose M20pro vs Note9.
My next purchase will be very carefully considered and almost certainly not a Huawei. Mainly because I have faced touchscreen lag on the P20 pro and now the Mate 20 Pro. Also the P20 Pro monochrome sensor made night mode much much better than the Mate 20 Pro so I think Huawei have lost their advantage. I used to do pitch black or very low light pin sharp night mode shots on the P20 pro, but in exactly the same scenario on the Mate 20 pro, you have camera shake which ruins the shot.
As for my next phone:
High touch screen response / sensitivity / low ms.
4-5,000 mah battery with battery life to match (12hrs SOT)
Flat screen (Screen protector friendly)
Pin sharp selfie camera (such as Pixel or One plus)
3D Face unlock
No pinhole selfie camera
Excellent video recording (stereo and handles concert scenarios)
Excellent low light camera, and fast shutter speed for indoor / pets etc (ala Pixel 2)
Powerful, loud stereo Dolby atmos speakers.
As I go along I feel this is never going to happen. This above is a mix of the Razer phone 2 and the Mate 20 Pro.

Calibrating gravity and magnetic field sensor

Hello everybody
I'm using an Android 7.0 phone (Huawei P9 Plus) and I'm recording sensor data.
The recordings of the gravity sensor (`Sensor.TYPE_GRAVITY`) show always unreliable accuracy (using `SensorEvent.accuracy`). Is there a possibility to calibrate the gravity sensor?
For the magnetic field sensor (Sensor.TYPE_MAGNETIC_FIELD) I'm getting in the beginning also unreliable accuracy but after moving the phone a bit around it first changes to low accuracy, then to medium accuracy and then to high accuracy. Why is that? Can it not be all the time at high accuracy, also right from the start?

I don't know what to decide

Hey, I have a question, should I choose the Xiaomi mi a3 over the huawei p20 ? I'm focus on cameras (both) and color reproduction on the screen.
HW is probably better on Huawei. But I would still take A3 because of EMUI, unlockable bootloader and late updates on Huawei.
For hardware, P20 has some key features which make it a little more appealing on paper.
*OIS on main camera (it makes a big difference)
*Display colour reproduction is much better with average deltaE of about 2.2.
*Performance is better in raw numbers.
But if it were me I'd still go for the A3 for the following points
*AMOLED screen (I'd take it any day)
*Camera software (Stock Mi Cam is ****, slap in the Gcam magic and you'll get the best shots you've seen out of a smartphone imo)
*Stock android, EMUI always bugged me.
*Less intrusive notch and way better battery.
*Support for Wide Colour gamut (NTSC) which will natively enabled in upcoming android 10 update.
Considerr Motorola One Vision :
* hi resolution FullHD+ screen, very clear, very nice (no sh1tty low-res pentile screen)
* no PWM for screen dimming, uses DC dimming
* OIS optical stabilisation for camera ( = long exposure, night photos look like shoot during day )
* NFC
* water splash certification
* 3.5mm jack
* and of course Android One
PS: color reproduction on MI A3 screen is NONEXISTENT, it is massively oversaturated, red color intensity is disturbing
P20 is expensive right, so why not go for the oneplus 7t ?

Question Does your Poco m4 pro 4g have the following problems?

1)Heating:
My Poco M4 4g heats to 41C while watching instagram reels.
Is this normal?
Does your phone do the same?
what about redmi note 11s 4g? is it any better in this regard?
2)CPU Throttling:
My phone throttles to 53% of max performance and battery drained 4%, does this mean for the most part this phones antutu score is reduced by half when CPU is throttling?
how much does your phone throttle?
3)DISPLAY:
My m4 pro's display is slightly yellowish/warm. Reading mode is off
Is your poco m4 pro 4g display yellowish/warm or blueish/cool?
My previous phone Vivo Y91i has a bluish/cool display the whites look way more bright and white even with low brightness. On Poco the greys like comment area on instagram reels etc... look yellowish, which looks horrible. naturally all the pictures I take look yellowish/warm
I tried setting the color temperature to cool but its still yellowish. I tried color color schemes Vivid, Saturated and Standard. Standard was the worst.
Can I fix it with the right settings? or an app (I hear those drain battery) or is there a blue tinted screen protector? (just throwing it out there)
4)Camera:
Selfie camera oversharpens, makes my skin look bad.
Does your camera oversharpen too? or is it just mine?
I tried Gcam 8.4.600 skin looks smoother but Gcam is only capable of making 4MP images.
Do you know of an alternative camera app? Or atleast tricks to edit the photos?
5)Screen on time:
I get 7 hours of SOT on wifi with 75% brightness level(I don't have a SIM card in it at the moment)
How much SOT do you get and what is your brightness level
6)Speaker loudness:
Before buying this device I checked GSMArena's loudness rating and on comparing with poco x4 pro M4 pro 4g was rated better. Recently I watched a video comparison where reviewer says its not quite as loud as x4 pro.
are GSMArena's rating wrong? or is TechTablets wrong?
Are Dolby certified phones like moto g52 or g71 louder?
The only issue that I recognise from that list is oversharpening, which the stock camera app is guilty of. You can fiddle with it a bit in the settings to improve it, but I've not found any other apps much better. I'm perfectly happy with my screen-on time, loudspeaker, display tint etc.
I would note that the display seems to boost brightess in bright sunlight which you can't adjust using the brightness slider in the settings drawer which is a bit irritating.

Heating up to 41C while watching instagram reels is normal on most phones?
Youtube reviewers said the phone heats up while gaming, which I understand and didn't care for as I don't game usually but no one oncesaid using insta heats up so badly, which would have made me reconsider my buying decision.
Will future MIUI updates fix heating issues ?
Mine is showing rectangle lightnings on the left half, like lines. It happens all day, I have disabled everything, back to cnfigure, activated/isactivated always on, etc. None has any result. At night, it resists to unlock so I have to push repeatedly the unlock button, the torch answers but the screen remains black.
I would just return it if its possible.

I think "Android system" has always been the top of the battery usage chart on every phone I've ever used. Try BetterBatteryStats for a better breakdown of what's actually using the most power.
