Samsung says, no more parts, no more repairs. - Galaxy View Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Galaxy View tablet shut off and never turn back on. The battery was 54% or so and I went to quit an app it it shut off. I pressed all type of button combinations, left it plugged in to charger for hours, nothing, will not turn on.
I sent it to Samsung paid the $109 repair fee. After 2 weeks received it back with refund and when called tech support they informed me that they had no part and no longer made repair parts.
So I have a choice of throwing it in the trash or maybe buying a new battery and seeing if it might have been the battery. The tech support would not tell me what the trouble was. Might have been the motherboard, I don't know.
Any suggestion appreciated.

Buy a cheap parts queen on ebay. Probably the mobo. Press Samsung for clarification... that's the least they can do.

Got my transformer and screen won't come on!

Yea so I finally got my transformer prime on the 23rd after waiting about a month for it.
As soon as I opened it i plugged the charger in preparing myself for my first ICS/Android tablet experience, and shortly after my eyes began to tear.
The screen wouldn't turn on so I immediately logged onto xda to find a solution to no avail. I've been proceeded to call asus and find out what was going on with my brand new transformer. They proceeded to tell me to do everything that I had already done before I called them and it came down to me having to ship it back for repair. They even tried to make me pay for shipping until I told them "don't worry about it, I'm just gonna go and buy an ipad" haha
So now I should have my baby back in a week or so.
I saw other people had screen issues when they first got it and it was solved by charging it, but has anyone else had to send theirs back for repair?

You should of charged it up at first for at least 8hrs. Before sending it in....plenty others had same issue n solved it like that. Primes come with battery basically dead. Mines didn't. It was low. But most others I've seen had a dead battery basically.
Have you tried to hold the power button down until it vibrates? I noticed that my phone will come on immediately if I press the power button, but with the tablet, I have to hold for a few seconds until the device powers on.
Just something I noticed from my first experience.
Try holding the power button or combonation of the power button+Volume button while pluged in.
also try a paper clip in the tiny hole near the SD-Card
Please give us details on what you have tried. Sending to the Repair center will take you up to 2-3 weeks process time and return.
So you might think of just returning it to the company you got it from for another Prime or your money back.
Hope this helps.

I have had 4 Primes now, 3 were dead when i got em.... Charged for 8 hours as mentioned in the user guide and all 3 powered on without issue. One had just enough charge on it to start up when i went to first charge.
It threw me for a loop first couple of times but holding the power will do the trick.

I ordered mine from Office Depot and it came dead as a door knob. I plugged it in and it would not turn on at all.. I was definietly worried i had a defective one but i let it charge for 10 minutes and pow! it came on.
The battery died completely the other day and i had to give it a few minutes or so on the charger before it booted up
I had same issue but after lettering it charge for a good 3 hours and it turned on, I even called Asus before it turned on

I charged for 24 hours and tried everything that has been posted. it actually is a screen issue

is the battery possible done for?

I received a broken phone that had been shattered pretty bad from one of my bosses. I ended up finding a replacement digitizer/screen/chassis for fairly cheap. 5 days later I received the parts, and assumably the battery was rundown before it was handed to me, so it sat dead for about 5 days while I waited on this part to repair it. I swapped the mainboard and everything looked really good from the broken phone besides the chassis/screen. After I get it together it appears to be doing a bootloop at the HTC Sense screen. I get it into hte bootloader on the next boot. First I did a memory clear, reboot back into bootloader. then accidently while trying to shut it down i selected fastboot. I get it to start one more time and select factory reset. it still gets stuck at htc boot screen with no indication its doing a factory reset. So then finally I shut it off in what appears to be a bootloop, restart it and notice it says "LOW Voltage, please replace battery" So I'm thinking at this point the battery maybe just low and needs charging before trying to do a hard reset. I turn it off again but notice the whole unit is VERY hot, i've never held a phone this hot. Anticipating damage if I let it stay on charger, I pull it off the charger and let it cool. Now I can't get it to boot. While plugged into the A/C adapter I do get a flashing orange light indicating its charging "or trying to" and I leave it on there for a few hours. I've now tried booting it while holding down the power for 10 seconds, over a minute, with volume down and without, many different combinations and it won't boot. I get no lights unless i have it on the A/C power. If I leave it on the charger for over an hour I do get the flashing orange light for a few seconds and then it goes off completely. I called Sprint, they won't sell me a battery because its integrated on this unit. So I called HTC and they want me to ship the whole phone to them, and obviously its out of warranty since I opened it up so now they want $140.00 to fix it and 280.00 if the mainboard has to be replaced. Ouch. I've probably bought over 50 EVO's for our employees on our Sprint Business Account between the Original 4G and the 3D and after seeing this model which one of the owners purchased I have to say that this integrated battery like the stupid iphones is a HUGE disappointment as far as engineering. I tried the 1 minute on A/C power power button holding technique to mimic a battery pull reset, and get nothing. I would never buy this phone for my employees based on the battery problem alone. I've seen batteries killed in a number of scenarios not including just heavy phone usage. I'm still using my original 4G and was going to finally swap to this phone after repairing it. Disappointment doesn't begin to describe this phone. So is the consensus that the battery is dead and I need to get another one by sending it out to HTC? Any other revival tips?
My phone did the flashing orange light when I took it out of the box.
I think you can buy parts online. I'd do a search. If you changed the screen a battery should be cake.
Supposedly only two screws to get to it.

Do u have adb tools? If u hook it up does adb recognize it at all? Lazypanda has an unbricker but I sincerely doubt it will work for this. I would be mad if I bought a battery and a bunch of parts just to have them not work bc its the motherboard that needs replaced.
Was the phone dropped in water or from a height of over 10ft? Normal drops may break the screen but the motherboard? Guess it is possible.
Here's what you do, add the phone to your account, add insurance, then next day call assurion make a claim and pay the 100 and have a newly refurbished lte.

That would be insurance fraud... and if you make a claim the next day i am pretty sure they would figure it out.

4G refuses to connect

My Evo 3D phone's power button broke off (how, I have no idea) -- took it to Sprint, they told me nothing they could do -- so they ordered a replacement for me at no cost (refurb of course). Received refurb phone, turned it on one time, 2 of the 4 soft buttons weren't working, no big deal.. powered the phone back off and went about other business until I could have time to come back and root/s-off the phone. Came back to do this a few hours later, phone was burning up and wouldn't power on. Pulled battery, let phone cool down, put battery back in, nothing. Put it on charge to make sure battery wasn't drained, nothing.. Went into the store the next day again, and once again, ordered another evo 3d phone for the defective phone that was sent to me. The entire time, my original phone worked, as I found an android app to reprogram the camera button to make it a power button (only while phone was powered up). Anyway, received 2nd replacement phone, and now the 4G Wimax service won't connect.. It goes to: Connecting to Sprint... to Obtaining IP address, to turning off, then turns back on, process repeats.
So, ESN swap back to my ORIGINAL phone, and now that phone won't connect to 4G. Anyone have any thoughts on exactly what is wrong? Sprint claims it's the phone again, in which case, if I have to go into the store again, it'll be the 3rd time to do this and deal with, yet, another replacement.
I would raise some hell with them and be like this is the third f***ing phone you guys have replaced all defective. I demand a new one. Because you only get so many replacements for one year. If you insurance I would file a claim with asurion and tell them what's going on. This happened to me.before and they sent me a new one. No refurbs.

Galaxy S II Sudden Death?

Hi All,
I was using my phone normally about 2 days ago, then put it back into my loose shirt pocket. When I took it out a few minutes later, I realised that the phone was off. I turned it back on, and while it was on the "Samsung Galaxy S II" logo, I placed it back in my pocket to give it time to boot.
I kind forgot about it later, and when I took it out about half an hour later, I realised it was still on the same screen. Thinking that my phone has frozen, I tried to depress the power button for about 5-10 to shut it off, to no avail. I did a battery pull, replaced the battery but found that I was unable to boot the phone at all.
Thinking that maybe the battery is flat, I tried another 2 more original Samsung batteries that I had with me, both fully charged. Nothing worked. I even tried entering recovery and download modes to no avail. I also tried several other methods described in XDA including plugging in the battery while doing the keypress for download mode, both volume buttons while without a battery and sticking in a connected USB cable, and even my old USB jig. Nothing. No boot screen, nothing on the capacity buttons.
Oddly though, if I plugged in my battery and press and hold the power button for 5 seconds, then leave the phone aside for a while, I noticed that it gets warmer. If I pull the battery out, it cools down. So it seems like turning on the power does "something", but the phone wouldn't boot. Plugging it into to computer doesn't recognise it either. Neither can Odin 3 see it.
Is my phone truly dead? Or is there any possibility of fixing it?
Thanks.
Replace motherboard - Samsung service centre (expensive option), or source a 2nd hand board online & either replace yourself or pay a local mobile repair shop (not Samsung service centre) to do the replacement for you (cheaper option), or new phone.

So it sounds like a defective mainboard to you? Mm.. If so I'd probably go for the 2nd or third option. Already bought a new phone, but I do have 2 SIM cards (one issued at work without a phone) and I would like to be able to use my S2 (currently using and aging Motorola Q9H). Plus there's some data I had in the internal memory and the phone does have some sentimental value.
I'll go source for a board I guess... But the flash memory will be lost with a new board wouldn't it?
Thanks for the advice!
Given the majority of components that would cause a phone to simply die like that are located on the motherboard, that's the fix. As to what component(s) specifically died, nobody here could tell you that because we don't have the phone open in front of us with the gear to diagnose.
Some repairers in some countries have been flogging a 'we can just replace the individual component(s)' fix lately (as evidenced by people making threads here saying they've been offered these fixes), but this is a very tricky job that not even Samsung service centres attempt; basically, if you want it fixed guaranteed first time without the risk of potentially double paying (for the first fix that doesn't work), you replace the board.
Yes, you'll lose whatever data is in the NAND on the existing board, that's not really recoverable, but a company which specialises in recovery of data from dead HDD's may be able to help (I haven't seen a single thread on here in 2+ yrs where someone has been able to get this done though), expect this to be very expensive if it is possible.
I see...
Worth a shot I guess. Samsung's CSC aren't really an option here past warranty, and the professional recovery firms here charges sky-high rates. I'm looking at motherboard replacement guides for the i9100 for now, may look for a 3rd party repair shop if all else fails. Pity, it was a great little tool. I had it running on a smooth JellyBean 4.2.2 =\
I had this exact problem, what my case was that the battery died completely.
I bought a new 1800mah battery and it works fine. I can't boot with the original old one anymore, it is 100% dead (still has some juice in it)
but if you can't use other batteries (that work with the s2), then I guess your nand is dead.

My Galaxy View won't turn on

I've had my View since 9/16. I use it everyday for probably 6 hours or more. Every night I turn it off and plug it into the factory charger. I tried to turn it on the other day and it will not turn on. I'm a geek so I've tried everything I can find on the web and Samsung's site to get it to work. I contacted Samsung and they've sent me a label to send it back to them for their evaluation and price to fix.
A couple questions for other forum members:
1. Has this happened to anybody else?
2. Anybody had the battery die? I've put a lot of hours on mine...
3. Anybody had any experience with Samsung service?
Thanks for any feedback...
Larry
I have not had this happen to the View, but I have had it happen to a few other devices when I used to test devices for a wireless carrier. This can happen when the battery is "too dead". If the battery drops below a vital level then it can fail to start up into the charging boot screen. If it was on the charger, it's possible that your charger failed and caused a parasitic loss to the tablet. This is, perhaps, the worst problem with non-removable batteries. Sometimes you can hold the power button down while plugged in and it will start charging again. I assume you have purchased, or already have, a second charger, to rule out it being a charger issue. To have any chance of this method working, you will likely need to hold the power button for at least 10 min while attempting to charge. Basically the concept is that you are trying to get the power to flow to the battery even while it can't boot the charging screen kernel.
Thanks for your detailed reply. I really appreciate it. And I did try another charger. Didn't try holding down the power button for 10 minutes, but I get your point. I contacted Samsung and they provided a 2nd Day Air return label, which I thought was generous for a tablet out of warranty. So it's on its way to them to evaluate and give me an estimate to repair. I'll post when I hear back from them. Thanks, again, for your reply.
Samsung discovered my motherboard needed to be replaced. Cost $109 including shipping both ways and it seems to be working just fine. Of course now I have to get everything set up again. I thought the price was reasonable - a heck of a lot cheaper than a new one.
