Question DE2118 to DE2117 using only Linux? MSM tool out of the picture? - OnePlus Nord N200 5G

Trying to follow the various guides to move from A12 DE2118 back to A11 DE2117 (and then on to Lineage or Libre). I'm passing everything through to a Windows VM, but the tools dont see the phone in EDL mode, and neither the google or oneplus drivers seem to help.
I'd really like to just flash this whole puppy with Linux, but I'm getting stuck on a few points. Do I "need" to us MSM? Seems like the answer is no as there is a non-MSM guide here, but it's still windows related. Where are all these image files coming from in the various guides? When I download the images from the mirrors, or OnePlus directly they have a payload.bin, but not the 30+ named .img files I see listed in some of the guides.
Feeling confused, and I know I'm capable of getting this done, I just need someone to help fill in the blanks for me. I "was" able to unlock the bootloader, that's how far I am now. Thanks!

https://github.com/ssut/payload-dumper-go will extract .img files for you from a payload.bin. Also supports zip packages that contain payload.bin.
A linux guide is sorely lacking. Would be great if you could document your steps for others.

Thanks. And definitely have been along the way.

I'm working through this as well, so feel free to ask questions if you need help along the way, @lurkio. I have lots of linux experience, and like you, this device has been a little confusing for me.
My goal is to go from stock A12 on DE2118 --> LOS19 on DE2117
For this device specifically, all the info we need is here -- it's just a bit hard for me to piece it all together for myself.
Try the drivers I've attached here. I think one of them worked for me for QDL in windows.
Here's some of what I found here on the forums:

The conversion process in this post worked beautifully for me last year. I was on one of the later stock A11 builds, and carefully followed the guide in the first post.

+1 for payload-dumper-go. That tool makes it so easy to get the images, and it looks really cool doing it. (And for the Arch crowd like me, it's in the AUR!)
Also, check that you're running the latest ADB/Fastboot. I found a lot of small issues magically disappeared once I was up-to-date. Here are the links to the latest and greatest.

Let me know if that tool works for you, I get the failed verification on the official OnePlus image or the A11 image that was posted.
I have a separate post about it, but I get stuck at fastbootd. I just didnt have enough luck in linux so I used a VM to get the MSM tool to flash A11 on the device, and that worked. So currently I'm on A11 DE2118, and I need to get to DE2117 to get to Lineage.
If I watch dmesg or the journal I see the phone constantly connecting and disconnecting in fastbootd mode, it's fine in fastboot mode, and all other modes. I might just have to spin up windows on another PC to get this moving. Stuck!

Question Un-bricking my Nord N200

Don't ask me why, but I tried to upload a GSI using fastboot to my N200. And that didn't work. So I then read online about other people getting the same error I had, and their fix was deleting the "product" partition and erasing the system partition
Now my phone is stuck in fastboot and won't boot from an image, take a recovery image, etc. etc. it's kinda completely messed up and it's my fault for trying to tinker with commandline tools.
The problem is there is no MSM recovery for my phone, and even if there was virtualbox can't detect my phone's USB(I've already tried with just the nord MSM, I run linux and I was using a win10 VM)
Is there any hope? Do I have to go to a repair shop?

My experience with USB passthrough on different hypervisors is that they all suck. I have to use Windows at work, so I use it for most of the tools including MSM tools.
That being said, I've never seen a real difference in adb / fastboot on Linux or Windows.
Have you tried calling OnePlus by chance?

No, but there is a 100% chance that they'll just tell me to use their repair program. Which I'll be surprised if it's under $100 for me to mail it in, have some dude spend 5 minutes flashing it, and then mail it back

Is the MSMDownload tool, that you got, for the Tmobile version or the unlocked version/retail or both?

It's for the T-Mobile version. Someone with a retail N200 will have to request a "remote session" with OP support in order to get the MSM tools for the retail version.

@lzgmc, thanks.
How does this "remote session" with OP work? Does one report that the phone is bricked, and then they send you the tool which you execute? Or do they run the tool in real time using a remote desktop tool, but then one has to somehow capture their MSMDownlod tool using some other tool? Do they not try to delete the downloaded tool?
If you could share your detailed experience of this "remote session", and how to capture the MSMDownload tool, it would be of tremendous help. I don't own a retail/unlocked N200, but your experience can perhaps help those who have one, in getting the MSMDownload tool for the retail version. It would benefit the Tmobile users too, in finding a way to potentially convert Tmobile version to retail version. Thanks!

That is a pity. The MSMDownload Tool seems to be the only way to fix this.
The good news is that the MSMDownload Tool is now available with Oneplus support, as of today e.g. until last week, folks out here posted that Oneplus support did not have the tool released to them. Perhaps you can contact Oneplus support and request a "remote session" to unbrick it similar to what @lzgmc did, and get your phone un-bricked sooner? If you do so, try to grab a copy of the MSMDownload Tool that they use in the session and share it with others out here. I am sure @lzgmc will post it soon, but no harm in having multiple copies available.

@lzgmc Do you happen to recall which version of Oxygen OS the MSMDownlod tool is for? 11.0.1.4 or 11.0.1.5?

OnePlusNordN105G_Restore_OOS10.5.12 - MSM-less restore???

Is there any consolidated info on this new script? I have yet to find any such thread (still searching).
I have it downloaded, and I have the python img extract script.
I was thinking of copying over the main script files with the new Android 11 images.
Is there any reason why I should not do that?
I think the trick is MSM uses the EDL flash mode, which seems to be able to bring back ANY corruption in the R/W part of the phone, no matter how bad it is messed up. I assume it only uploads signed code, and we couldn't just inject our own images into/through it like we can through fastboot.
Neat trick, though, if we can... no more stuck bootloops or wrong slot errors...
I'd also love to see it run on Linux so I don't need to keep Win images around to use it... wonder if the protocol is documented anywhere to be able to reverse engineer it? Probably over my capabilities by far.
@SomeRandomGuy
Thanks for the reply. FYI, I just tried it on my BE89BA and I replaced all the images with the latest available Android 11 images (extracted with the python script). No dice. Qualcomm crash dump screen.
I'm trying a few different things. I'll post here once I get a result that works.

what you need to do is use DSU sideloader and boot into your DSU and then run the following command..
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/by-name/boot_a of=/sdcard/boot_a.img
dd if=/dev/block/by-name/boot_b of=/sdcard/boot_b.img (if you'd like to have your stock boot_b as well)
I used Andy Yan's Lineage bulid GSI for my DSU. let me know ifyou have any luck
By way of @AndyYan himself.. and he's referring to your own boot.img you pull from your device yourself
if it's your own image it's guaranteed to match and will work, just not in DSU

Question Flashing CPH2459_11_A.06 on a GN2200_11_A.06 ?

Hello,
I found a firmware file for the Nord N20 5g. However, it is CPH2459_11_A.06, while my phone says it is GN2200_11_A.06. Would it still be possible to do a local update to pull the boot image, or must the CPH and GN match? I have the T-Mobile version, bootloader unlocked, and network unlocked , along with the July security patch.
Thanks!

If the OTA contains patches for all the required images then it SHOULD. But don't take my word on that.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Do you simply need a backup? It would probably be best to load a prerooter gsi with DSU sideloader and just use Partitions Backup and Restore app from playstore and backup all your partitions then just add them all to a single archive to make it easier to manage. You can select in options to save as raw (.img) and then just compress them all into a single archive and that would make it even easier to retrieve the needed partition images if you happen to need to restore anything.

I see. Basically I'm just trying to obtain root access. You mentioned prerooted gsi? I will need to read up more on this. Man this would be a lot easier with TWRP lol
waiting to hear from someone about a twrp that has been in the works. we tried one yesterday that didnt work. a different device tree is needed from the one that was used.
using DSU loader you can temporarily load a prerooted gsi and back everything up and move it to your pc and then move the boot.img to your internal storage where you can easily find it with the magisk app. install and load the magisk app and patch the boot.img then move the patched boot image to your pc and flash it in fastboot. that will give you a permanent root unless you prefer to stick with the gsi you sideloaded. but keep in mind any gsi you load with DSU Sideloader will be gone when you reboot the phone and your back to your regular system. you can use the sticky command if you want to keep the gsi installed but be sure to allocate plenty of space for your gsi if you plan on using it long term
if your on the may or july security patch you should be able to just download the patched boot.img from my other thread. i posted the stock images too in case you need to go back to stock or have issues booting. that being said. its best to just make your own backups. the july patch is GN2200_11_A.06

General OnePlus Nord N200 5G DE2118 Finally Unbricked.....

I'd like to start by saying after 2 weeks of researching and piecing guides together to unbrick my phone was hell. But once i found the right route it took me less thank 10mins all from a simple tool called Fastboot Enhanced V1.3.0. Now this Nifty little tool took me from bricked phone which was saying "Your img(Boot, Recovery) have been destroyed please flash the right files or contact customer service to fix this problem to Unbricked in less than 10 minutes. It took me 2 weeks of researching but it's finally done. Now most of you will say well you could have use MSMTool or the MTK or even SP Flash Tool. Those are all fine and dandy and all but one problem with those. YOU have to SCOUR the internet to TRY to find files you need to actually be able to use them. I been over several guides. I had when a guide basically says this 1) DO THIS SKIP SKIP SKIP important parts 2) NOW DO THIS. Like WTH was i supposed to do in between 1 and 2. Todays guides lack thoroughism and complettioin. Guides these days take Half Ste;ps and then thrown together.
I will also leave a step by step instructions on how to use the Fastboot Enhanced V1.3.0 in DETAIL on how to get your phone from what mine did to Unbricked state. I will also attack Nord N200 5G DE2118 .img FIles for those who have a hard time scouring the internet for things. I for one get agitated and aggravated as hell when searching the internet for things. Especially when you have to pc things together. I will leave files if it's Fine by staff. Now these files have come directly from my OnePlus Nord N200 DE2118 extracted less than 2 hours ago 10:04 p.m. EST September 10th 2022. Can Only attach One File? and i can't even remove the accidental clicked bmp pic of COD BO Cold War Zombies.
Guide For Using Fastboot Enhanced V1.3.0
1) Download Fastboot Enhanced Tool from: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...enhance-payload-dumper-image-flasher.4310553/ from XDA Which is how I came across it. . The Tool is a WINDOWS ONLY Tool. (How many guides i came accross that didn't state whether it's for Windows or Linux) I use Dual Boot so I have both.
2) Install Fastboot Enhanced V1.3.0 and wait for it to finish. Now you will only have to be in Fastboot Mode to do any of this. I can't believe how a semi hard problem was fixed really easy
3) Now you will Have to Have a Payload.Bin File which can be found with any OEM Firmware for Your specific Phone. The Payload.bin allows you to be able to do a Payload Dump Using Fastboot enhance it is at this point if any of your partitions are missing or corrupt you will find out because it will tell you if you can understand the way it's explains it.
4) This Nifty little tool will tell you your device naem whether your phone is using secure boot or not, current slot your phone is using if you have an a/b partition scheme and the update Status. This is Listed Under basice properties. AGAIN MAKE SURE YOUR IN FASTBOOT MODE.
5) Next tab is the Partitions Tab which will List all your partitions currently on your phone . To the right of your listed partitions you will have and ACTIONS Tab. This is the tab where you can flash, erase, delete, create, and Resize your partitions. With this tool You CAN Flash Important Partions So be careful what you flash.
6) Next Tab Over is the Payload Dumper. This is the Tab where you need the Payload.bin File for your specific phone. this will give you payload version manifest size, metadata signatures size Metadata Signatures (Base64), data blobs, singatures size signatures (Base64) Fuill package Yes or No. Timestamp and block size. also under payload dumper tab another tab shows up called the Dynamic Partition Metadata. Now this will list your REALLY IMPORTANT Dynamic Partitions These are the partitions you don't want to flash anything over them. It will give you the Partition group size, which partitions are included and tells you wheter snapshot is enabled or not.
7) Under The payload Dumper tab the partitions tab gets a different Actions box. This time i'ts a box that let's you extract your .IMG files from your phone it allows for incremental as well as to ignore unknown operations and ignore checksums also under this partitions tab it gives you a checksum for each and every one of your partitionss. Ok now on to the Simple but yet comprehensive guide.
8) Now to start you want to add the Payload.bin to the Payload Dumper and then click on the Partitions tab. Once under this tab you will select each partition and hit the extract button and extract it to a folder named something like Flash FIles.
9) you hace to do this for each partition. Once done you will have your .IMG files from your exact phone for future use as well. You then want to click on the Fastboot Visualization tab and then click on Partitions.
10) Once under the partitions tab here, you will want to start flashing your .IMG files to the partitions. it should take you around 10 to 15 mins total to finish flashing everything.
11) Once your finished flashing you want to do a quick Terminal and do a FASTBOOT -W and then Fastboot Reboot and watch your phone start working again.

Thanks so much man. This phone has been an absolute pain in my ass to unbrick, the issue Ive had with Fastboot enchance is that all the firmware versions Ive found seem to contain images it doesnt recognize for the phone.
Do you have the original OTA for these , or the un-extracted payload.bin youd possibly be able to post?
So I went through the process without success, the only abnormalities I noticed were that my device did not have a partition for "my_carrier.img" , so that wasnt flashed.
And upon using the fastboot -w command, it did execute but at the end was given the message "Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.
File system type raw not supported."

I found the way MSMTool works too. I'm going to probably write a guide for that too. MSMTool is so much easier.

I had a lot of issues with Fastboot Enhance too until I realized I was the one causing errors. Any logical partition it doesn't recognize you can create an empty partition wiht that name and it will resize it then copy it over. Also make sure whatever slot you're on, so say slot a, your logic paritions would be system_a, system_ext_a, vendor_a, product_a and odm_a except I dont see odm.img in the list of file by OP so I'm not sure if that will even help.
and now i have ran into HARD BRICKED mode trying to flash a custom from. phone will only load EDL and everytime I try msmtool I get the error Check OCDT CDT file empty please redownload it. and I scoured the internet for 4 days now and all I can find is stuff like What is .CDT extension but nothing about having and empty CDT file for android. getting frustrated with it now

Hey I appreciate it but I didn't need it I was just informing the poster above that the ODM file was missing and that might cause an issue when using Enhanced Fastboot. Not really sure what a cdt file is though, sorry.
Im in the US and have the unlocked N200, to unbrick mines i used the MSM tool and selected MetroPCS as my carrier. then after i had phone functionality i put the correct rom on my phone.

Can you link me to the MSM tool you used? I think there might be a few different versions of it floating around for the Nord N200. Mine was purchased unlocked

10) Once under the partitions tab here, you will want to start flashing your .IMG files to the partitions. it should take you around 10 to 15 mins total to finish flashing everything.
