How To Guide Enable VoLTE/VoWiFi in unsupported countries without root (requires Shizuku) - Google Pixel 6

Hi all,
Bellow you can find some info on how to attempt to enable VoLTE in unsupported countries (tested in Romania, Digi carrier) using Shizuku and Pixel IMS app for it.
This assumes that you have ADB and drivers properly setup beforehand.
1. Go to Playstore and install Shizuku app.
2. With the app opened, open up a terminal and write
Code:
adb shell sh /sdcard/Android/data/moe.shizuku.privileged.api/start.sh
to start it
3. Check the app. It should say Shizuku is running.
4. Download and install this apk
5. In your app drawer find Pixel IMS app, open it and click on allow all the time for "Allow Pixel IMS to access Shizuku"
6. Hit the enable VoLTE button at the lower left.
7. The original guide says to restart the phone several times, but for me it started working right away.
Also, it kept working after uninstalling Pixel IMS and Shizuku apps.
The original author mentions that it should survive reboots but is unaware of system updates. However, being quite an easy method, it should not be a problem to reenable.
Thanks go to the original author and u/redeletv on Reddit who posted it.

There is a newer version which adds support for VoWiFi as well.

Thank you. Volte work on pixel 6 and pixel 7. Vowifi IS in menu

Working perfectly with my Pixel 7 Pro without restart, first try. It survives reboot.
I'm from Serbia and using mt:s with esim.

Not sure if that actually works for me (Poland)... VoLTE toggle showed up in carrier settings, but I can't see any difference. Is there any way to check if callings are made through LTE/WiFi? When I call someone it's H+ or 3G showed up on the top :/
But, when I have WiFi on, wifi icon remains, so it's wifi calling, right?

Some carriers might require that your number has been previously provisioned with VoLTE on a device supported by them officially.
If this could apply to you as well, and you have never used your SIM card previously in a supported device, then this will not work simply because on the carrier side the feature is still disabled.

So, do you think if I'd put my SIM card into my gf's Oneplus (which has certified VoLTE for my carrier) for a while and make a call, then put it back to my Pixel, there's a chance it will be activated?

Working like a charm, with my device, no need to reboot.

I can not speak for your carrier and what it takes to enable it. If your carrier supports this method, then yes, having your SIM in a supported phone until the feature is enabled should make it work afterwards in your Pixel if you followed this guide.

You are great man !! it's working for me in Egypt ! Thanks a lot !!!!!!

It's working after sending activating SMS!! Thanks a lot, works great!

It's working, Yettel Bulgaria. Thank you!

I'm on a rooted Pixel6, also on Digi in Romania. Been using a volte enabler magisk module which works fine. Any downside to getting rid of that magisk module and using this instead? The module I'm using is pretty old and I'd like to switch to something more recent and tailor-made for tensor chips.
Any idea if i need to use ADB if I'm already rooted? Can I skip the ADB part?

Hey @morphvale ! Appreciate you sharing this.
I posted this on @kyujin-cho GitHub, but will share also here.
Just wanted to share some feedback on trying your patch on Pixel 6 running on T-Mobile Poland network.
Since Android 13 VoLTE works on Pixel 6 out of the box, but not WiFi Calling.
I followed your instructions and run the script, then switched WiFi Calling on in the app.
WiFi Calling setting appeared right away, however I couldn't force it to work even after few reboots.
On top of that, whenever WiFi Calling is enabled in the device settings, phone can't register for VoLTE and calls are being placed over 3G.
Carrier supports WiFi Calling and I have it enabled on my line (I was using it with iPhone 7 previously).

You don't have to use ADB at all. You can either start Shizuku with Wireless ADB which doesn't require a computer, or by granting it root access.

Tested with my Google Pixel 6 with Vivo operator in Brazil and it is working perfectly, for both VoLTE and VoWiFi (WiFi Calling)!!!
Many tranks!

For those wondering, yes it works for all the MVNOs on Altan for Mexico, you get VoLTE on those sims, you just need to activate the sim on another VoLTE compatible phone and then swap the sim on your Pixel

[Q] Hidden codes not working, bc of 3rd party dialers or FW?

Hello.
I finally upgraded to ICS and Resurrection Remix ROM.
I have some issues in my area with 3g not "working", i.e. data will transfer with Edge (slowly) and with H(+) (quickly, but totally freeze up while the status bar shows "3G" connection, and only start again when it changes to E or H(+). It switches a lot between 3g and H, so my workaround was to use the hidden code *#301279# and disable both HSDPA and HSUPA. Which wasn't a problem as for some reason speed tests would give me 6,6mbps download with just 3G (makes no sense to me as I thought pure UMTS peaked at 384kbps?).
So anyway, when I flashed Resurrection I was pleased to see that it offers that very choice in its menus, choosing UMTS, HSDPA or both and HSUPA. Unfortunately it just won't "take" for me, with only UMTS chosen I still have H+, and hence 3G doesn't work. To make matters worse I can't get any hidden codes to work/activate in the dialer either (except for some reason *#*#4636#*#*).
So, my question is, is this due to 3rd party dialer instead of stock (and is stock dialer something I could get with RR ROM if so)?
Or is it this solution from galaxy S thread:

I've always had custom ROMs and no problem though Lite'ning, Criskelo and CheckROM probs were based from Samsung stock ROMs.
So, anyways, any way around this, so I can deactivate HSDPA/HSUPA?
No,Because you are special.

sorry ma8 REMIX is based on AOKP hence ALL samsung codes do not wrk on it with exception of a few
it has nothing 2 do with the dialer but the next ver of remix might address the issue
Oh bloody ..., now I have to find another ICS ROM again then... I need that workaround.
*sigh* any recommendations? I liked CheckROM pre ICS, but they're a bit slow with theirs.

give a try with SLIMrom ICS or Wanamalite pure ICS rom and see
And those are Samsung fw based both, so the codes will work?
Thanks either way.

Did you try if also the *#0011# works? I any case, what you need to know, is that (generally speaking) the following is true:
1) (RF related) "secret codes" are Application short cuts to the Radio firmware.
2) Thus the actual code running is in the radio (baseband processor), but there is usually a Java (Application) wrapper doing some of the menu graphics and what not, which then runs this code.
3) So, what codes are working, depends on the radio firmware and whether or not the wrapper applications have been installed with your ROM.
4) Try to copy your old "ServiceMenu" (or whatever it was called on your device) Application onto your new system.
5) Many ROMs are using minimized Kernels that disables a whole range of debugging and other (internal) service configurations, that may be needed to use the "secret codes".
Thanks for your response, even though some of it was lost on me.
Your code doesn't work either. Only one I've had work is *#*#4636#*#*.
What I find really strange is that my ROM (Resurrection Remix 1.8.1) has a gui choice for RF band as well. But even though I select UMTS only (see screenshot), I still get H coverage and my 3g acts up. Even with reboot. So if anyone has specific knowledge of this ROM, please share. I still lack posts to post in the ROM's thread in dev.

(also wondering what that 2G toggle in notifications/status bar dropdown menu is, but that is slightly OT).
Your point 4 is beyond me I'm afraid, at least without a step-by-step recipe.
Cheers for the response though.
Toggling UMTS only has never worked for me in any AOKP rom. Turning it using *# 301279# works well. Its nice to see websites load a trickle faster because it's not waiting for the phone to switch from 3g to H/H+. Try WanamLite rom.

Alright, fella!
1. Code as mentioned doesn't work.
2. Do you have the problem where data wont transfer/load when on 3g as well? Only on Edge or H/H+? Is this an Android thing or a SGS2 thing!? I'm guessing you're not on the Telenor carrier.
3. Is WanamLite non-AOKP based then, so it'll work? Didn't fall in love with WanamLite's look, so want to be sure.

Nah I'm with 3 UK but my speeds don't get any better to be honest on h/h+. The biggest difference I've seen was me getting 400KB/s on 3g and 460KB/s on h/h+, minus the 4-5 second delay when going from 3g to h and it doesn't really matter lol.
If data didn't load on 3g I'm sure there would be millions of unhappy customers lol, it definitely should work on either. 3 UK doesn't even have a 2g network so its 3g/h or nothing.
WanamLite is a Samsung based rom so all the dialer codes work and battery life in general is better than a AOKP based rom. I think it looks ok. I'm more fussed about using good looking apps and having nice homescreens rather than themed settings menus and notification themed toggles lol
Alright, might give it a go then. ust a shame with Resurrection which is quite nice. But battery friendly is top of the priority list.
I disabled (pre upgrade to ICS) with the *#301279# code, and still got 6,6 mpbs speed on data. Which is actually about 150kbps more than I got with H/H+. ;p
Oh, and thanks to everyone!
^^ I can't give a step-by-step since I'm not running neither your ROM, nor ICS...
While in the 4636 menu, hit the button and start advanced task manager, or just hit the button again. You will then see the name of the (wrapper) application that you was accessing using that code. When you find the correct app that was running, go to ADB root shell and search for the app with something like (using that name, of course):
Code:
find / -iname "*ServiceMenu*"
Next use your, Titanium Backup, or whatever to find and copy that app to your new system... (Oh, yeah, obviously you would need to reflash your old ROM or find someone who has the old one...) Then cross your fingers and hope it works!
Thanks fella, but I ended up flashing WanamLite and just doing the code.
Now I just need to either find an sms app for ICS, or where I can select phone numbers only to show so I don't keep sending mms to email in stead of phones.
I was wondering the same thing. When my phone is on 3G, websites never load for me, they just sit there, half loaded. But as soon as it switches over to H, not H+ (never got it), they load automatically. I'm on Tesco Mobile but they use the O2 network. Is it a phone issue or a carrier issue?
Chris.
Well I'm on a Norwegian carrier, and in forums here I see loads having same issue. But a few with HTC phones as well, so perhaps an Android issue?
Anyway, what works for me is disabling H/H+ with the code *#301279#. As I get good speeds on data anyway as 3g then works like a charm. Or I did on my previous ROM Resurrection, on WanamLite I'm not so sure. Very slow ping.

I've noticed that my speeds suffer when I set 3g only. Feels more like 3 are doing it though. For example, I can get 600KB/s using 3g and roughly the same on H/H+. After a few hours though my 3g connection sits at around 45-70KB/s. As soon as I switch to H/H+ it bumps back to 600KB/s+ again. What's odd is that if I then go BACK to 3g only it maintains fast data for a few hours.........then back to under 80KB/s. Really weird
I just tested and I gave the wrong info.
If I disable both HSDPA and HSUPA in the *#301279# code I get 3g with about 360 KBPS download according to a "speedometer", but if I activate HSDPA, but _NOT_ HSUPA, I still get 3g showing in my status bar, but the speed test gave me 7,33 MBPS download! So might want to test that. It still gives me stable data!

Q&A for Samsung Galaxy Light SGH-T399 Discussion and Development

Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
LTE on ATT?
Has anyone experienced LTE connectivity on the ATT network? Using LTE Discovery, I have still yet to connect to LTE — only HSDPA+.
I tried doing some research on interoperability, but I'm still not even sure it SHOULD work on ATT LTE. Can anyone shed some light on this?
From ATT:
• 3G UMTS network 850/1900MHz bands
• 4G LTE network AWS / 700 / 850 / 1900MHz bands
From GSM arena on the T399:
GENERAL 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13 / 1700 / 2100
Even though the T399 is capable on bands 850, 1900, and 700 (although I believe ATT uses the non interoperable class 17), are those frequencies not usable on LTE? Is that a limitation of the radio chip?
Unable to update, sim card not working since I tried
I just tried to update it a few times, after the reboot when it's applying the update, it fails at around 25%. Is there another way I can get Kitkat? I'm guessing it's not working because the update detects if the phone is rooted or something. Updating via Kies doesn't work, so I reverted to a backup I had in TWRP. Also, ever since I tried to update, Android has been deciding to not use my sim card (ie. no 'insert sim' notification, but when I go to settings -> more networks -> mobile networks it says 'Insert sim card to use mobile networks.') I kind of need my phone (for obvious reasons) - and if it's for calling I am willing to restore to stock (preferebly newer) firmware, even if unrooted...

LightWave is really the only "custom" ROM so far. It's stock, but debloated and optimized. However, development has (at least temporarily) ended, as its creator is currently working on porting CyanogenMod to this phone, which'll be fantastic if it can get up and running.
In the meantime, best thing would be to use a custom launcher like Nova to change how your home screens and app drawer look, and to root (if you haven't already) and install the Xposed framework (if you haven't already), and check out the Wanam module (and others), which'll allow you to enable certain features and clean up your notification panel and status bar from excessive icons and notifications.
I agree, check out Xposed and Wanam, and also the Aviate launcher recently acquired by Yahoo. It's the most organized launcher I've tried out of many though the years. Xposed and Wanam are the next best thing to Cyanogenmod, for Touchwiz stock Roms, imho...
---------- Post added at 10:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 PM ----------
Also, if you install Home2Shortcut from Google Play and disable Samsung S-Voice, you can configure your home button double tap to open Google Now and "ok, google" with two home taps, or anything else you want for that matter.
Simple instructions, please, for installing LightWave, etc.!
I would like to install LightWave, TWRP, and any essential related software on my T399N. Any extras can wait. I'm not using this phone with my MetroPCS service yet, but I have used it just a bit with Wi-Fi, particularly to set up my new Chromecast box.,
I skimmed the posts in the developer thread on this and was confused about what to do first, and how to do it. (I presume I'll have to use adb for part of it, and I did manage to find out how to get the phone to work with adb.) A couple of years ago, when I was first coming to this site, I probably could have figured it out from that thread, but my brain seems to be deteriorating rapidly as it nears the completion of 3/4 of a century of existence. It could also be my insomnia, that may or may not be age-related, and, last but not least, the new, cluttered, presumably more advertiser-friendly, interface that has replaced the old user-friendly interface that I think I remember from this site.
Anyway, can anyone just list the steps to accomplish the basic installation I'm talking about?
Also, is there any reason to be concerned about the update that Samsung and T-Mobile/MetroPCS have just sent me today?
I tried to look for the update for the T-MOBILE version and there was nothing for that version sadly
I need to go to T-Mobile and see how much it would cost to get my screen fixed

metro t399n tethering issues
So this is my third android from metro. Others were a Huawei Premia 4g and a galaxy exhibit. I was able to tether on both without root using the stock android hotspot. My computer runs Linux so user agent string filtering wasn't an issue. Now that I have this light, it seems tethering has become very locked down. At first I couldn't even turn the hotspot on. I thought that might change if I rooted, so I used shabbypenguins guide and twrp to root. That alone didn't get the hotspot running. I ended up installing xposed frameworks and the xtether module... behold! The hotspot would turn on! However, my pc's browser would redirect me to the T-Mobile upsell page. Freaked out worrying they finally added Linux to the list of user agents to block. To verify, I tethered my exhibit to the light and tried to get online.... upsell sight again. I know they aren't blocking this with user agent strings, it's gotta be something in the apks. used titanium backup to remove tethering provisions and tethering automation but didn't work. I've now gone through a dozen tethering apps off the play store both utilizing root and not. None of them will get me off the upsell redirect page. It looks like cm12 is still not quite there for the light so I don't want to go custom Rom just yet. Does anyone know how to fix this in the stock Rom?
@mjbrady83
I use WiFi Tether Router by Fabio Grasso on my Galaxy Light without issue, but I also have T-Mobile with a 5gb tethering plan built-in, so I don't know if that makes any difference.
Here's a good guide:

I can't say for certain, but it appears to me that the phone is carrier locked. You might be able to get T-Mobile to unlock it, or get an unlock code off eBay or one of those websites that sells them, but I have no idea how you would go about doing this, you being in Cuba and all...
Custom Kernel?
I guess this is the most relevant place to post this...
I was wondering if anyone was willing to make a custom kernel for this phone. I have no experience with this sort of thing so I'm just asking...
Anyways I really love this little phone. It's so dirt cheap now a days (Like $50 on eBay) and I think it's an excellent phone.
I just think it's missing a couple of things that could be added in a custom kernel.
1. Wolfson Control
This device does in fact have a Wolfson WM1811 DAC (Like the International S3 and Note II).
You can bump up the volume in default_gain.conf but actual Wolfson Control would be much better as you could change the analog volume on the fly and enable some of the important DAC features to improve sound quality, especially the hardware Equalizer and some of the other settings. See screenshots

2. Button Light Notifications
One thing that really bothers me about this phone is a lack of a notification LED...
Back when I had an original Galaxy Note it also had this problem, and lots of kernels implemented a way for the Menu/Back button LEDs to act as your notification LED. It was wonderful and I think this device really could use it!
I guess besides that overclocking and maybe if enabling USB OTG would be pretty cool!
Anyways If anyone experienced in making a custom kernel is interested I would be more than happy to help in whatever way possible!
Thanks.

Enable WiFi calling in U firmware

UPDATE: it seems that all this does is enable the switch in settings, it does NOT actually allow WiFi calling. I have been digging around in both the ATT system and U System, trying to see if I can find anything that points to what makes ATT WiFi calling function. I have come up pretty empty handed thus far, I can say that swapping the ATT CSC folder to the U firmware trips a shutdown/reboot loop. It boots and shows some verifying device dialog then shuts down, BUT in the short time I got before it shutdown the Wifi calling option in settings turned from a switch to a tick box. This is as far as I have gotten and think it will not be an easy task to get ATTs version of WiFi calling to work on the U firmware.
So came across this in system/csc/Others.xml about 3/4 of the way down, I can confirm it enables the option for us att users in the U firmware but can not confirm if it works or not. It is a start.

Image didn't work
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Odd it's working for me.
Edit updated OP with new url to the screenshot, hope it works for everybody now.
Must root though? Ugh
yes, just like you need to be rooted to get VoLTE and video calling re-enabled and band 17.
But at this point I can do little to prove this works and doesn't just enable the option in settings.
I'm trying to pick through the ATT rom to see if there is anything usefull.
Screenshots maybe?

I screened the xml in the original post, I'm adding a screen of WiFi calling being available in setting to this post.
I have not had any issues seeing the screens I'm posting bit please let me know if anybody else can not see them so I can bet them fixed.
I'll be waiting... Been wanting to go back to U AND have wifi calling!

well I am still not certain on how to test to see if it is working, but I have been digging around in an ATT rom most of the day and have come up pretty empty handed, as far as any settings or any APKs that might help.
Is the a + on your wifi bars?
Easiest way to check is turn on airplane mode, turn WiFi back on and send a message or make a call

this I have tried but it insists that I turn off airplane mode in order to make a call, not sure if that is something that the U firmware does on purpose or not.
Odd, on att fw I can make a call fine with airplane mode on and wifi on
Well, I have put myself into a some kind of shutdown loop a hand full of times today trying to swap files from the ATT rom. I think this is a bit beyond me, so unless someone more knowledgeable comes along to help out I think we are once again stuck with no Wifi calling on the U rom

Actually I just switched back to the ATT firmware and wifi calling still does not work with airplane mode on for me, it's odd that others say it works for them.
You have it enabled and activated with address set? It doesn't ALWAYS work either... At home no matter if I'm on my 2.4ghz or my 5ghz it won't work. At my work though it works great and activates soon as wifi connects

E911 address.
Again, not sure what's up with my wifi at home it doesn't work but on others it does

Hey Joe, not sure if you have root or not, but if you do can you get a catlogger and toggle wificalling on and off a few times to see if we can figure out the root of what controls ATTs wifi calling. It has to be built into some arbitrary apk somewhere.
Yeah, I am looking for it in the rom. I flashed a ported Note 7 Rom for the SM-G935F, flashed a note 7 csc for AT&T, i get errors when I enable wifi calling.

Question Unable to delete "T-mobile.com" wifi subscription?

Settings-> Wi-Fi & Network -> Wi-Fi -> Saved Networks
Under [Subscrptions], there is <t-mobile.com> which will Auto Connect after you reboot your phone.
Unfortunately, it will re-install itself after you reboot your phone even you perform "Forget" or "Delete" it. ( yes, I have PM uninstall all T-mobile packages already )
Anyone know how to delete it or what it is?

1. "T-mobile.com" is wifi subscription.
2. I do not have wifi subscription via T-mobile.
3. My other phone, Samsung a32 will not auto install this subscription under my Saved Wifi.
4. Even if I disconect this subscription, my phone still works without issue as well as Wifi.
5. I do not wish to have it auto-connected after reboot.
Can you provie solution instead throw me more questions?

This is not related to Wi-Fi in any way. Notice how it simply says "Saved networks", then below "t-mobile.com", it has "Wi-Fi Networks". This implies, as far as I'm aware, that it is not Wi-Fi, but rather your cellular data subscription from T-Mobile.

so you don't have the real answer to my question.
It could just be hard coded into the tmobile branded phones to give you access to tmobile hotspots.

This could be it.
However, I also have T-mobile branded Samsung A32 5g but it does not re-install "t-mobile.com" under [Saved networks] menu after I delete it. That's why I like to know if I can prevent auto-install after I delete it.
FYI, I have already PM uninstalled all tmo packages.
I want to say many phones ago I had a similar issue with a package that happened on one phone and not another. What I remember of it was the AOKP guys went digging into it and they found that on the tmobile branded version of that phone in the original rom it was buried deep enough it couldn't be turned off. I am not sure if it was the same package but I do recall it had something to do with their wifi networks.

This makes sense. Glad you could clear this up, I was also curious.
I wouldn't swear it's cleared up lol. Like I said I could be wrong, I just remember it was a package that the AOKP guys went looking for in the stock rom for the phone (Motorola cliq or cliq2 maybe) and that it was something to do with the wifi but it was harmless just gave you access to their instore wifi stuff. I'll leave the clearing up to people much smarter than me......

How To Guide Pixel Temp-Sim Unlock Tutorial

Even though the December patch kind of ruined everything, there is another method for SIM unlocking a Carrier Locked Pixel so follow on!
(THIS WILL WORK ANY PIXEL, I HAPPENED TO TEST THIS ON A PIXEL 4A 5G BUT THIS WILL WORK ON ANY RECENT PIXEL)
You first have to go to settings...
Apps and then show system apps
What we are doing here is disabling a system app that has SIM lock.
Search up "device setup"

Ok ok, so now go to Mobile Data and Wifi and Disable background data
Now go to App battery usage and put it as restricted
Insert your SIM Card and it will be sim unlocked
Will that work on T-mobile pixel 6?
gonna try...

This will work on the Pixel 6 (T-Mobile).
still no option to allow oem unlocking on T-Mobile sad how it used to be so easy to unlock a bootloader unless you have Verizon of course this is the first phone I've had from at&t or T-Mobile that isn't rooted or unlocked.

You have to contact AT&T or T-Mobile for a bootloader unlock. The SIM lock is local, but the bootloader unlock is controlled by the carrier.
I just tried this to use a Visible SIM in a T mobile locked 4a 5g which I had done before using a different method. While it did work for the physical SIM at first, I have it set up with a T mobile eSIM and it won't work with both like it did before. Now if take the visible SIM out, T mobile works, but Visible won't work at all in it. I was using a 4a that I bought as a temporary/spare phone until my replacement battery for my 4a5g came in (it took about a month). I decided to do a factory reset because I figured it would be easier to just let it copy everything from the 4a, but it relocked the SIM which I should have realized before I did it, but I didn't think about it.
I'm going to do another factory reset and try again... I'll update soon.
Update: You may have to install Netguard to get Wifi. Block Device setup in NetGuard.

OK... Now I can't get the Visible SIM to work at all. I'll have to switch back to the 4a. Hopefully if I erase the esim I can get Visible to work again so my wife can use it because her phone isn't compatible with Visible's new network that we need to switch to soon.

Do not connect it to wifi. That may be your issue. Reset the device then try the process again. Also if you connect to Wifi, always set the connection as metered.

It works for a little bit, but I guess it figures it out when it gets Internet access and it's pointless to have a smartphone that can't go online. I'm going to try T mobile customer support again, hopefully I can get somebody who I can understand and they can understand me.
