Question American Xperia Flashed with European firmware is slower than unflashed phone. Is there another region where this is not a problem? - Sony Xperia 5 IV

Hello,
I have two American Sony Xperia 5 IVs. The reason I have two is because I quickly noticed a pretty serious problem in the first one: I could not use data while on a phone call. Thinking I may have had a faulty model, I decided to order another one and same deal. I did everything I could think of to try to troubleshoot this matter. The only resolution, it seemed, was to flash software onto the phone. I have never personally flashed, but found someone online nice enough to be willing to do it for me, although they told me that they tried this before and that their phone had no signal and that was a logical concern to me, since it was foreign firmware. However, that did not happen. I'm trying this message right now on data on the device that was flashed. It also helped me with my problem. I can now use data while on a phone call. Hooray!!! However, I noticed that the data appeared to be slower. It wasn't a drastic shift; it was subtle enough that I thought I could just be paranoia, but I decided to do a test and sure enough, the flashed phone is slower. The photograph is the unflashed phone and the screenshot is the flashed phone.
The question is, is the a firmware that will make my phone as fast as or faster than the unflashed version? If so, which one is it?
I'm grateful that having European firmware resolved my issue, but I would of course prefer for there to be no compromise.
Thank you!

Hey did you solve this issue? Also, do you or anyone else know if esim can be gained from the same cross flashing? And OTA update would be gone right? Thanks

Hero network bug

Hello everybody,
I own an Orange-FR branded Hero, and it get often disconnected, but doesn't seem to "know" that. The network bars stay stuck, and the "H" is displayed, as if there was a 3G connection.
I still can use Wifi (and enable/disable it), but cannot disable 3G/GSM network, not even going into "plane" mode. The only way to get out of there is to reboot the phone.
Looks like a radio bug for me...
Any ideas ?
Thanks
Yup. Which radio version are you running?
And, are you running the phone stock or with a custom ROM. If custom, try flashing the latest radio (read up on it before doing so though, as some people manage to brick their phones by not reading the instructions)- ie. don't pull the battery out, just let it do its thing.
Hello, thank you for your answer.
The phone is like new, I didn't try to update the OS neither the radio, because of the warranty...
My radio version is 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18.
I'm aware of the flash methods, as I often updated my P3300 with roms found right here
Hello there,
still have the problem, seems it's happening 24h after each reboot of the phone, but sometimes less.
By looking at the message log with the OSMonitor application, I get a lot of "rmnet fifo full, dropping packet", and the time shown in the messages is wrong (near 5h20 instead of 22h40)
Thanks for your help.
Got a new phone from Orange (with a crappy customized rom).
Same problem
what does orange say about the problem?
Hi,
each ppl I could talk to told me a different thing.
Sometimes they say it's because i'm moving to another cell (aren't they joking? it's the way GSM works...), someone told me it was because of a "localisation" problem. Another time my file was "stuck" or sent to a wrong service...
I don't think they have any return on experience about this phone.
probably it is just sales bull**** they are told to say to you...
it's guys from level2 support, that's worrying
They change my phone tomorrow... again...
i sometimes have a similar problem, phone gets stuck on 3g network and only shows as uploading data, i think it might have something to do with facebook sync. i haven't had this problem for a long time now but back in the day it used to happen alot
third phone, same problem
i don't use facebook sync
Same Problem
I was having the same problem, especially when it came to 3g / wireless usage - the phone would suddenly lose all connection to the masts but be unaware of it.
My solution so far is to downgrade the radio - the latest one is the worst for it, I'm using 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 at the moment and a lot more stable than before...
(using Villains 5.2 rom)

yes I have been getting this issue too.
It uploads data on 3g but doesn't download. I found what appears to be a temporary fix for this issue but it comes back every now and again. I think it is an issue with Orange/Tmobile cell towers.
thanks for your replies,
i'm using the 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 radio
is there other radio firmwares available ?
thanx

The one listed in my sig is the latest (and arguably the best) radio.
OMG they locked the recovery mode
im on orange and have no problems? To be honest when you talk to them they read from a script, noone there actually knows anything! just searching through a database kinda like windows help and support. If the problem is continuing with new phones id say its your cell area
I have the problem everywhere in the country, they changed the phone, they changed the sim (i'm trying another one right now), ...
That's what makes me think of a network problem.
Whenever you speak to them about issues like this always ask to speak to "high technical team"
They are the only ones that know anything and won't read of a script. They are usually very very helpful as well (or at least are in the UK)

Determining the original carrier [an attempt to fix the hot battery reboots]

Hi fellow enthusiasts,
i have a problem with my Atrix 4G MB860 that is bugging me for a very long time. I tried fixing it by myself by trying out many different roms, radios and kernels but apparently had no luck with that. I'll explain to you what my problem is, and hope that there is someone out there that can eventually help me.
The problem is that my Atrix is rebooting when my data connection is ON. The phone gets very hot after a while (sometimes its just a matter of minutes, and sometimes it takes longer, but it is inevitable) and it reboots. This never happens if my data is OFF, and it will never reboot when i am connected to the internet over WiFi. I would also like to point out that this is not a battery problem, as the battery doesn't get hot, but the lower left part of the phone (near the SD card).
By reading lots of info about all this i have concluded that the problem is in my baseband, and that i probably don't have the right radio for my phone. So i started changing radios, and believe me, i have tried'em all, and every single one of them had the same problem.
I am now ready to go for the last resort, installing sbf with rsdlite in order to return to the stock firmware hoping that this may fix my problem, but the thing is, i don't know what my original carrier is, and have no way to find out. All i know is that it is bought somewhere in Europe.
Is there a way i can detect my original carrier?
Can i try and flash a random EU firmware (yes, i have read the warnings about this)?
Do you have any, and i mean ANY, suggestions?
I will attach a logcat if that may help you.
Please help, i am desperate.

Possible modem toast?

So, without writing a big long explanation, I'll cut straight to the chase and tell you what's been done with some light background.
I woke up one morning and my network was inactive. At first, I thought it was maybe some mobile network issue. One day later, still no connection.
-Odin'd back to stock twice
-reflashed multiple roms (including all the usual formats)
-flashed 5 difference ICS modems (KA5,6,7 and KB1,5)
IMEI error popped up after a new rom flash for those that are curious, but I lost my original a while ago and just adopted a generic. Never had an issue with it affecting my mobile network. I remember having a modem issue before when ICS was in it's discovery phase and flashing roms, but nothing where the modem just stopped while it was running/on.
I just wanted to see if I forgot something before I officially sentence my phone to death. I wanna say maybe a freak surge nuked it or something. That's about all I can think of since I know my way around android. Any ideas appreciated. maybe there's a way to check my hardware I forgot about.
Thanks!

[Q] SIM-Card Issue XT910

I posted here a few days ago because i have been encountering problems with my xt910. It just runs out of signal out of the blue. So I was told to uninstall “CellBroadcastReceiver.apk ”. I did that and got signal back again. But then, one day after, everything started all over again. I thought it would might be a hardware issue, but since it recognizes whether there is or isn’t a SIM-Card, I think it’s more like a bug idk. I have already tried another SIM-Cards and also tried mine on another cell phones and it works normal. I was looking through some threads here and desperately tried quite a lot of things but unsuccessful till now. Has anyone an idea of what might be causing this problem? I used an app called Titanium Backup to uninstall CellBroadcastReceiver.apk. Since then yeah i think it was uninstalled, because it does not show up in the application's list anymore. But maybe have i done it wrong? If yes, how could i find it? Or maybe is it another issue? Idk, i'm really new with this and i just wanna fix my phone xD
I am using CarbonROM with KitKat 4.4.4 and a Vodafone Germany SIM.

[Q] Phone switching from 3G to 4G back and forth constantly

Hi folks,
Short version:
My rooted HTC One Max running ViperMax switches from 3G to 4G every 30 seconds or so even not touching the phone. Video of it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLoT3DT-B3Y
Long version with extensive history on the AndroidForums:
http://androidforums.com/threads/rooted-new-4g-3g-issues-sprint.899595/
Thanks in advance!
Crodley
Man I seemed to have stumped two forums! Grrr.
One consolation, with everyone off the 3G "highway" congestion isn't anywhere near as bad as years ago and I rarely buffer anything anymore on 3G.
Ah well. One more year until I qualify for a new phone, think they'll come out with a new version of this great phone?
Try a stock rom and see?
I don't think it's the ROM, I mentioned on the other forum (which I went into with more detail than here, link in my OP) that this problem occurred before my bootloop problem which caused me to do a factory reset. I was running stock back then. The problem still persisted, I thought it may have been a sprint problem. I was hoping this ViperMax ROM might fix my radio problem, but no dice.
Thanks for the reply!
p.s. I notice in your phone history you went from a Max to a One M8. Did you have a problem going to a smaller screen? I'm afraid I'm spoiled with this one.

Well you may want to take out your sim card and just insert it back. A re-seat as some people say or may wanna get a new sim. may want to factory reset with stock recovery. lots of options to try.
and it was very hard to go to m8. But the speed of the m8 makes up for the smaller screen size. But I still miss the large screen.
