Nubia Z50 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm looking at replacing my Z17 with the new Z50.
However, I want to be sure I can root and install custom ROMs. The information about those capabilities seem to be quite lacking these days, does anyone have a Z50 and has rooted or installed a custom ROM on it? (even all the current red magic threads seem to have very little information about custom rom installation/development)
The Z17 supported Treble GSI images by preloading with a custom LineageOS image first. Are all newer phones treble GSI enabled, can they just be reflashed with any GSI image or do they still need a TWRP recovery etc?

The safest option would be to go for RM8P, it has more chances to have custom rom. And we know for sure that the bootloader can be unlocked, Z50's might be not

Opps sorry my bad
Never ever gonna happen again i promise 🫡

The phone doesn't seem popular enough to have a custom rom scene, it hasn't even gone for sale globally, so I'd look elsewhere.

Just for everyone's info I bought a Nubia Z50 directly from Aliexpress. Probably the cheapest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone available.

How to change the language on ZTE nubia Z50
How to change the language on a ZTE nubia Z50. Step-by-step instructions for adding languages to nubia Z50 from the device settings. Add language
www.devicesfaq.com

At this time the Nubia Z50 doesn't have an international ROM with the ability to choose more than 4 languages during the initial setup. The steps above will tell you how to add the languages manually. I hope Nubia will consider making an international ROM but international demand for the product would need to be higher.

I also bought Nubia Z50, so far so good. Everything is working, it has some minor bugs and lack of languages but perfectly usable for everyday.

Hello guys, I don't have that phone but it caught my interest.
I have found the site where ZTE (nubia parent company) releases it's open source kernels for their phones : https://opensource.ztedevices.com/
The NX711J aka Nubia Z50 is listed on here. So to me it would seem like custom recoveries, roms, and of course unlocking the bootloader should be possible.

Jiayu G4S TROJAN/MALWARE WARNING for custom and stock ROMs May/June

Hi all Jiayu users,
a recent stock ROM and many custom ROMs based on it, have been reported to have at least 2 trojans integrated.
Organizational:This has already been discussed in this general thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2746900&page=33
But there it goes out of sight very quickly so we should use this new thread to discuss security concerns with Jiayu ROMs in general.
I will update the thread title as soon as other models are reported to have it, too (that is likely).
I will also update the title if we find it is a false alarm (which I stopped to hope).
Any suggestions to improve this posting, or to move it to a better forum, are very appreciated.
It would be nice, if everyone could try not to clutter this thread with unnecessary things. For example, if you have suggestions what I should edit here, better contact me directly, instead of posting a reply that becomes obsolete quickly.I've downloaded G4S-20140609-211642-SD.rar and G4SL-20140618-194209-SD.rar from needrom and verified the following facts myself. I did not test the stock ROMs, but in the general thread others reported that they have it, too. I don't know if they really came from an official source. April ROMs seem not to have it.
Many trustworthy virus/malware scanners detect trojans in system/app/ - see a list of reports in the virustotal links:
fonts 6.26
com.lovelyfonts
lovelyfonts_vanzo_noicon_6.26.apk
http://www.avgthreatlabs.com/android-app-reports/app/com.lovelyfonts/
https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...e90eaa5e9e8a1dec4db0d4ece4a82be1185/analysis/
Unlock 2.144
com.yunlan.syslockmarket
SysMarket_92_NoIcon.apk
https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...cd75a5543725b049c974735dcc66c526940/analysis/
Maybe one of them seems to download a third one and does it again if I delete it, which is clearly malicious behavior:
com.skymobi.pay.plugin 2.0.0.6
placed here: /storage/sdcard0/Android/data/com.skymobi.pay.app/plugins/com.skymobi.pay.opplugin_V2006.apk 174.95 KB
http://www.avgthreatlabs.com/android-app-reports/app/com.skymobi.pay.opplugin_v2006.apk/
https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...19bf34f6884fa397f062e9b9e4ee4d9be0a/analysis/I was able to delete both apps using Titanium Backup. Everything still works and the third app didn't come back anymore.
After deletion of the "fonts" app, without reboot, a chinese menu entry appears under settings/display. It translates to "font settings" and crashes when tapped. Maybe that's interesting.
Both apps caused wakelocks, consumed battery and sent data to the internet. They have lots of rights, and their names alone are suspicious.
Other Jiayu users with ROMs of May or June should check for these apps, too. Please report your results here. You can extract the ROM file on your PC and scan it with a virus scanner, or submit above apk files to virustotal or other online services.
Or, on your device, check for existence of the "fonts" and "Unlock" apps. You can do so under Settings/Apps, or in Titanium Backup, or Wakelockdetector and so on.
-Alex
Can you suggest tools to analyze what goes on on my device? Like a good task manager with lots of features showing useful info.
I would also like to see a list of open connections, and who caused them, is that possible?
I just downloaded and installer titanium to check for that apps, i dont seem to have any of those installed.
The rom i have its the official from jiayu.es, based on the 20140418-120537.
Anyways i wanted to check it manually, should I upload all my rom to virustotal?
Thanks

This is an April ROM, and there are also other reports that they are not affected.
Since a few days, jiayu.es also has the June ROM for download.
No, you can't upload the whole ROM. You can unrar/unzip it on a PC and upload single apk files from /system/app/ - or directly upload from your phone (you can use ES file explorer to access that directory).
This warning is now in multiple forums, but no one seems to really care.
Where should I post to get attention?
Some say, I should just delete the suspicious apps and everything is ok. I did that, but I'm not feeling safe, of course. How can we find out more?

I contacted jiayu.de at 30.6., they think it's harmless, but are looking at it - no further info until now.
I then contacted jiayu.es yesterday, but got no answer at all until now.
The latest official software posted on http://www.ejiayu.com/en/News.html is from April. How do we know, that 0609 and so on is really officially from them? Is there another official source?
I sent a detailed email to ejiayu.com and will post any comments here.
Answer from Jiayu Official Store España:
"Hello. We do not know anything about this issue because it is working right at this moment. Please contact to Jiayu China or ejiayu to talk about this issue with them."
EDIT: I then asked for help contacting Jiayu China and got this reply after some days:
"Hi. This rom is made bu Jiayu China not by us. We do not know anything from that,. Try to keep in contact with them because we can do nothinfg to fix it."
Hmm ok thanks.
Strange that nobody knows what might be going on. Is the latest rom maybe bogus?
Anyone got a good rom alternative for my jiayu g4s?
Here are the details:
http://securelist.com/blog/virus-watch/59356/caution-malware-pre-installed/
Zopo also does this: recent official KitKat has the fonts troyan, and it is embedded into Settings!
This is clearly intentionally done.
We, simple people, think we pay less for decent phones, and in fact, phone sellers and manufacturers sell out secrets to 3rd party without asking us.
Latest info: there's a new official kitkat ROM for this phone, and it has exactly the same 2 trojans
I really wonder why this security thread is that short. Is it the wrong place here, or doesn't anyone care? I don't feel secure after deleting those apps and don't want to use such ROM. So I restored the april stock ROM...

Never ever, german store is more or less just a reseller with the same poor customer service than a chinese one, why should they confirm that the company who they earn the money with is distributing malware, this would kill their Business immediately
any news on this issue?
I'm planning to buy this phone, but only if the malware is 100% removable.
Can someone confirm that simply removing the APKs does the trick?
Are they located in /system/apps/?
Confirmed, or just flash a different rom, can suggest borx rom gold v3

----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have working TWRP and Root for the Zmax Pro. We are almost ready to let users beta test.
Join our discord {Mod edit} (Everybody is welcome).
If you would like to be a tester before full root is launched/achieved. Or you can just keep up on the progress that is being made.
Although the TWRP installation is done thru a paid app. We plan to share free access to this method of installation. And we advice that no one purchase said paid app for the purpose of rooting your Z981. But if you already own said app. Or purchase it in order to share with others. Please contact us for a safe method of sharing access for the purpose of TWRP installation & rooting Z981's.
We need advance knowledgeable folks to come help us in getting the firehose extracted from the paid app. And also to help us try to target the bootloader & to develop SafeStrap in the mean time. Come on over. We got our fingers in many pies.
All credit goes to Armando for his awesome TWRP & Messi for testing the UNI method of root thru the paid app. And for those that where/or will be willing to share access to the paid app for free.
08/18/18 - UNI no longer needed.
04/28/18 - Updated Discord link.
Discord link is invalid. Also, what can I do to help? My Z981 currently sits on a shelf serving no purpose. Would love to regain life from it.
i have a broken glass one. i could use some root to mess around with it.
also, discord link is invalid.
Wow! Just when I had given up hope on seeing mine rooted!
I still use this phone as my primary. In fact, I have three of them. I'd be willing to help with testing and such, just let me know!
I even have one dedicated for my guinea pig phone, so it works out!
Dude, your link is broken ?
I've been rooting phones for about 7-8 years now. I'd be more than happy to help with testing to get this to a public release stage.
Has anyone figured out anything about discord? I would love to test this. I almost cried when the discord didn't work lol.

Great, folks that refuse to read the #Annoucements.
Click on the link for Discord on the 1st post of this thread.
(That is what is known as Original Post aka OP)
Then accept the invitation to the Server in the link.
The very first welcome message tells you to read #Annoucements.
Click on #Annoucements.
Read ALL the #Annoucments.
Then follow the instructions for borrowing UAT/UNI.
The process of rooting the Z981 is not a one button push. It is very specific. And things must be done on a specific order. And as of this date it still involves a paid app. But thanks to folks that lend their licenses. We have made a process that makes rooting the Z981 totally free. As long as the Z981 owner is willing to follow instructions.
If we where just handing out license logins then u would have dozens of folks bricking their Z981's. Specifically their IMEI's. Which has not been the case for those the are willing to read & follow instructions.

It is not my root method. The method was first posted by Messi2050.
What is our method is the lend & walk-thru options that our Discord group provides. So folks don't have to spend a penny on root. Which we believe should always be free. And our release of updated/latest TWRP & a Debloated Discord v1.1 ROM (Based on MPCS B21) are something we are proud off.
And pretty soon, once some major bugs are worked out there should be Nougat flavors of Linage OS & Resurrection Remix & other Nougat ROMs available for the Z981. And eventually there should be Oreo ROMs too.
Hey, thanks for the reply and not blasting me too hard. When I was on the Discord chat I had kids running around me acting crazy not to mention my screen was busted up so I was having a hard time. And thanks for the breakdown of the acronym because I am surely one who often wonders what some of those abbreviations stand for.

Read. Read. Read. You must want to help yourself. And once again, you can always use the "search thread" option in the upper right hand corner before you come off sounding uninformed. People will help you, but you must first show that you are involved enough to find answers to the basics - if not you probably shouldn't be rooting your phone.

The Redmi 6a comes with Android 8.1.0 right out of the box. What is the likelihood of it getting an official LineageOS 15.1 build via a GSI without much trouble? In theory, treble should allow this to be relatively straightforward, but I am yet to see much of this since it is such a new concept.

Redmi 6A is not working after flashing TWRP
I've been trying to flash global version rom 10.2.2.0 OCBMIXM of Redmi 6A from TWRP, therefore I tried flashing TWRP 3.2.3 first. After it's done, I booted to TWRP and tried to flash the rom and Magisk app. TWRP asked password for decrypting data but I selected No since there isn't any password. Then the error Unable to mount storage occurred and I could not flash anything. I tried some ways I found and all of them failed to finish with following errors: Factory reset (Unable to mount storage), Repair File System (Unable to repair Data (ERROR:8)), Change File System (Unable to mount storage). Now I'm unable to reboot to system anymore (always boot to TWRP). What should I do now?

How to Flash PE/PE+ | HAYDN/IN A11/12
•Be on any version of MIUI except MIUI 13. Any other MIUI versions will work.
•Download ROM and boot.img from the website - https://download.pixelexperience.org/haydn
•Flash the boot.img via fastboot mode. The command is - fastboot flash boot boot.img
•Type fastboot reboot, as soon as you type this press and hold the power and volume up (+) key and release when you see the Mi logo.
•Now, your device will boot in PE recovery.
•Perform a factory reset, then go to advanced and select the reboot to recovery option.
•Now, you need to flash firmware 12.0.5 - https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/haydn/stable/V12.0.5.0.RKKCNXM/ via ADB sideload. To enable ADB sideload use the update via ADB option in PE recovery. Command - adb sideload (filename.zip) NOTE: Keep firmware (12.0.5), ROM in the platform-tools folder- https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip
• Also make sure you have ADB drivers- https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...vers-15-seconds-adb-installer-v1-4-3.2588979/ •Now, after successfully flashing firmware, you need to reboot to recovery, from the advanced before as done before.
•Now, after rebooting, enable ADB sideload again and flash the rom with ADB sideload. Command - fastboot flash (filename.zip)
•After flashing is finished use the reboot to system option and enjoy PE/PE+. NOTE: This guide is targeted towards PE, download links for ROM and boot.img are of PE (official). In case you're flashing PE+, kindly use the ROM and boot.img from that. Installation for both is the same. OPTIONAL- How to root PE/PE+ •Download Magisk ZIP and copy in platform-tools folder, enable ADB sideload and flash that Magisk ZIP. Guide By- @hellotherear

Hey Oswald,
Thanks much. I will keep the rules in mind moving forward. I may post 2-3 more from posts, I wonder why they wouldn't be tagged under development? Though I will go through the rules once again!! Cheers <3 Love.

As you see in the linked announcement, only OWN development qualifies for the prefix "Development" (or the development section i older fora).

Affirmative, this is certainly possible with this kind of thread. If you like to change the prefix of this thread from now "General" to "How-to-guide" just go ahead.

Beware: You need to be on MIUI 13 to flash the latest version.

Yep it's Official PE so OTA is supported. I find it pretty much mediocre in battery life.
Hi everyone!
I just upgraded from my "old" Poco F2 Pro (K30 Pro) to this Mi 11i (K40 Pro+).
I was reading this thread but, I'm not sure if with the new official build of the Pixel Experience, it still needed to be on MIUI 12. Or can I update to MIUI 13 before unlocking it and then follow the procedure to install the PE?
Ops, my bad! Installing MIUI 13 is required
Thank you very much! Cheers
I installed finally yesterday the stable PE12 with the latest May update
It works smoothly! The only thing that doesn't work, at least for me, is the fingerprint to unlock the device (but it works in other contexts). Is someone else experiencing it? Is it maybe a known bug?
Have a nice day!
Hi all,
I tried to install PE12+ couples of time follow the instructions provided here, and I did not see any error during installation, but the phone fall into fastboot loop after restart. I need to use miflash to re-load the official rom or no other way to recover my phone.
I can see many of you can get this works on your phone, may I know are there particular issue on redmi k40 pro plus (12+256gb) phone? or Some steps are missing in the instructions? Thanks

OK; THAT link is broken !
Thanks for responding.
UNFORTUNATELY your url is corrupted.
I get nothing but 404's.
I WOULD like to see what you're talking about though. Especially if the source is GitHub.
I've been trolling the internet for NON-MALWARE-infected updates to that official app for several days now.
It seems to be a very Popular totem to attach diseases to.

My problem ISN'T with code that's obfuscated; rather, it's that I'm at a remote location, away from real computers. I'm forced to use Android smartphones for the time being. And, with VERY LIMITED EVERYTHING (!), finding a mobile-friendly tool to convert my classes.dex files to*.jar, so the source code can actually get edited and signed.
For this, the best I've been able to find was a recent "APKEDITOR ULTRA" v.2.0.1
I WILL NOT PARSE the patch I tried to replace the stock file with.
I used both the "Disassembler" app and a Java IDE, Seperatly--which clearly doesn't work.
