Unlocked when paid in full off contract?

I will be in the US for vacation in about six weeks and planning to buy The One.
Can you please help me with some questions:
1. Assuming that by then stock would be plenty and they don't refuse off contract sales. My question is: will A&TT or T-Mobile sell me the phone without me getting any phone service. I have my SIM with international roaming and do not need any kind of US phone service. I just need the Hardware. Is it possible?
2. Because I would be paying the phone without any contract or subsidy (full price). Can you confirm it will be unlocked to use with a SIM from any operator? Is it something automatically or I have to request it in the store?
3. I'm ok if they can only be unlocked. But have to ask if The One bough from operators can also be customized with other ROMS.
3. Which carrier is prefered to do this (if can be done) AT&T or T-Mobile.
Thanks you!

You probably want to buy the unlocked version. It is cheaper, unlocked, and will be able to use custom roms after unlocking the bootloader http://shopamerica.htc.com/brands/HTC-mobile/homebrands/index.htm
If not to answer those questions
1. Yes you can buy off contract
2. It will not be unlocked. You probably can unlock it easily with something like cellular unlocker service
3. Right now the bootloader is unlockable. We do not know if they will lock in the future
3(again). AT&T has earlier release but it doesnt really matter

Thanks for the prompt response. I would like to buy it from HTC directly but what I planning is a road trip and won't be staying more than a couple of days in any place. It is difficult to time processing and delivery times from HTC and I don't know how strict they are with billing address differing from shipping address.
Bummer they would not unlocked it even after paying it in full. What "unlocker" services do you recommend. I have never used one.

There are a lot out there like http://www.cellunlocker.net/ they will just send you a code that you can enter after putting a none AT&T sim in it. Now a disclaimer from me. I have heard of a lot of phones being unlocked by them but the HTC One has not been unlocked on AT&T yet as far as I know.
I just bought one from a employee on craigslist and trying to get it unlocked
Sent from my HTC One
If any carrier sells you a phone for off contract pricing you're eligible/entitled to have it unlocked when you walk out the door. Just call them.

I need help with network unlocking my HTC Desire 626s (T-Mobile) PLEASE HELP!

I know this is a little off topic, but I just bought this phone on T-Mobile prepaid last night, in hopes to pop in my Consumer Cellular SIM and use it. Well, that was shot down because it said the phone is network locked and it needs to have an unlock code to work on other GSM networks. I called and chatted with T-Mobile and they are refusing to give me the network unlock code until I start a prepaid plan with them, spend at least $100 on refill cards, and then they can "request" an unlock code from the appropriate department.
Does anyone know how to network unlock the device without doing it through T-Mobile? I don't know if I trust those cell unlocker websites for network codes that you have to pay money for.
Any other phone I've purchased, like an AT&T prepaid phone, they never require an unlock code. I also called Consumer Cellular and they don't have network unlock codes.
Gotta pay to play, unfortunately. Just use eBay, where you can see reviews and have some buyer protection. I help unlock phones at my job, and I know that blowfish and swiftunlocks.com have been reliable. HTC unlocks are usually done pretty quickly.

T-Mobile

I have the opportunity to purchase a Galaxy S9 + for T-mobile and would like to use it on ATT. Can someone tell me if this is possible?
As long as it's unlocked you can. I'm bringing my att s8's over to T-Mobile.
When you buy it from TMobile it is locked to them. You would have to go through the unlock process which I believe requires you to use it with TMobile for 45days and to fully pay off the device.
It will be locked to T-Mobile (you will have the Device Unlock App installed in the T-Mobile folder - which you will need to use it to unlock your phone).
However, I am not sure about the waiting period before unlocking. But once you are allowed to unlock it, you don't need to pay the full price. You will have to use an unlocking service to register your IMEI as unlocked.
Once you get your phone, ask them when can you unlock it and if you need to wait.

It will work if it is unlocked. But please if you are buying from a stranger and they are the original owner, go to the T-Mobile store with them to verify it's actually paid off. They should have a receipt of purchase since it was just released. Since it released on the 17th, it shouldn't even be unlocked as it usually takes 40 days of activation on the network to have it unlocked if it's through t-mobile. And it doesn't have to be paid off to have it unlocked so they can sell it to you even if they still owe than report it lost or stolen. Just be cautious, good luck.

ATT variant S21 purchased at retail from Samsung.com is locked to carrier and ATT unlock does not recognize IMEI? Anyone else have this issue?

ATT variant S21 purchased at retail from Samsung.com locked to carrier and ATT unlock does not recognize IMEI. Have already escalated to highest tier ATT and Samsung support offered to the public. In ATT's world, if a device is not in their IMEI database, it's not an ATT phone. Samsung claims that unlock codes were automatically shared with ATT when the phone was manufactured. They claim that after the codes are sent, they have no access to the data to provide an individual unlock code at a later date, even at ATT's request.
ATT claims they never received an unlock code for the phone which is why the IMEI is not in their unlock database. Their logic is that if the IMEI is not in their unlock database, it means they never received the unlock code. This logic leaves no room for the possibility of human error or a glitch in syncing data. Oddly, the IMEI is in ATT's warranty database. On ATT support tech suggested that only branded phones sold by ATT stores were supported with unlock codes. This raise the question as to why Samsung would sell a phone that cannot be unlocked and why they would lock it in the first place when it is not being sold on contract?
ATT has requested the unlock code from Samsung during one of my support calls and the request was denied. Samsung CS reiterated the position that they had already provided all codes and no longer had access to them. Third party unlocking services struck out with the IMEI. I can RMA the phone back to Samsung under warranty but likely face the same issue with the replacement. I could try to exchange it in an ATT store as it's in their warranty system but would like to not be setting up a new phone when all I am requesting is a code to remove a soft lock. Samsung's annual preorder trade up deal requires that phones be unlocked which is ironic since this one will likely remain locked indefinitely because the carrier and the manufacturer can't get on the same page. Most consumers with these phones will not realize they can't be unlocked during the Samsung warranty period.
Anyone else have this issue?
If you buy a carrier variant through samsung, you are going to get a locked device. Always buy unlocked if you want it unlocked.
That being said, I've been through this about a dozen times with AT&T. This is what needs to be done:
1- First, try the device unlock portal. This will inevitably fail, because the device isn't in their database. This is fine.
2 - Contact AT&T and be prepared to speak to people who have NO idea what you're talking about. If they say it can't be done, politely end the call and call back in. Ask to speak to *advanced* tech support. Explain that you got the device from Samsung, and you need the IMEI added to the database so you can get the device unlocked.
3 - Explain that you already tried the unlock portal, and they need to email the device unlock team to add the IMEI and get the device unlocked. This takes anywhere from 48 hours to a week, and might get rejected once or twice. If it does, go back to step 2.
4 - If you don't want to deal with that bull****, you can go on ebay and purchase a device unlock. You can either have them search the database for the code (PROBABLY won't work) or some sellers will remotely connect to your machine to unlock the device. I did it in the past for $30, looks like it's $60 these days.
I am seeking a high level contact at Samsung because this is a B2B policy issue which their technical support team, after multiple calls, has been unable and unwilling to help resolve. If anyone on XDA has a high level contact person at Samsung, please DM me. I will put them in direct contact with the AT&T Office of the Executive personnel attempting to resolve this issue and insure that it does not impact other customers.
Did you read my post? That is, step by step, exactly how to solve your issue. if you followed my instructions it would have been unlocked by now.
This has nothing to do with Samsung, this is an AT&T issue. And trying to find a "high level contact person" won't do you any good.
Follow. The. Instructions.

Question [CLOSED] Sim/Network Unlocking Service for Nord N200 by Metro

Is anyone here aware of how to get a Nord N200 5G by Metro sim/network unlocked so it can be used in Canada? I put my T-mobile sim in it out of the box and it's working on tmobile network without unlocking it, but I need to send it to my father in Canada so he can use it there on Canadian networks. Is boot unlocking same as network unlocking?
I googled it and some websites are charging $69 to unlock it? Anyone aware of any other online service which does it cheaper than $69? Thanks in advance.
Bootloader unlocking is not the same as SIM unlocking.
I'm unaware of any unlocking services for Metro phones.
I need unlock Nord N200 5G by Metro sim/network. I got bootloader unlock code.

If you go into a real Metro or T-Mobile store (cooperate store) say that you will be going out of the country for awhile they will unlock early device unlock your phone or if you know or are in the military and go in they will defiantly unlock your device . Just call your carrier to find out which store location is a corporate store they will tell you but be honest tell them why and they will send you to appropriate place .

Just a quick warning: DO NOT say you're in the military to get your SIM unlocked, unless you actually are. You could legitimately go to jail for that.
I live outside USA, since 29-Nov-2021,
There is a new Thing Called Temporary Unlock now with new Android Models , so you may not able to get it permanently get it unlock. You can request the temporary unlock 5 times in a year , 1 month for each time. So this Out of Country thing may not work any more
I find it hard to believe there aren't any reputable/ cheap sim unlock services for the n200 on metro. the only one I found is $70. if you don't own the device for 180 days metro refuses to unlock it for free.
Anyone tried the $70 unlock service I tried a 50 one called official sim unlock and they couldn't do it and refunded half my money
MOD ACTION:
Thread closed since it has deteriorated to paid unlocking services with links. This is not allowed on XDA.
