Question Limited sim manager in verizon? - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

I currently have dual Sims running on my s23 ultra. Both Sims are from Verizon. Phone is unlocked and originally purchased from Google fi.
However, I am unable to designate one sim for data and one sim for calls only in sim manager. There is only an option to designate a primary sim.
Does anyone have any idea if there is a command to unlock all the features in sim manager? I tried searching, but have been unable to find anything.

This is a feature that Samsung doesn't offer. You have to choose a default SIM for both and then tap the indicators in the OS to swap between them. Like if you're making a call, both SIM names will show up at the bottom of the screen and you can tap which to use. When sending a message, you'll see towards the right of the text box there will be a number 1 or 2 in a SIM card. You tap that to switch between them. You can set custom labels and SIM icons/colors to help differentiate them further.
It hasn't been a big deal unless I need to download or send an MMS on the line that's not set as the default and I also appreciate that Samsung adds an option to set a specific ringer for the second SIM - allows me to just silence my data SIM.

I'm from South Africa and I use 2 physical sims on my phone. It gives me the options to decide which phone to use for calls/messages/data as per your screen shot. I see you have on e-sim and one physical sim. Maybe that is the reason you don't get the options I have. I have my primary sim for calls and messages and sim 2 for data setup. When configured it also gives you the options in the drop down menu to change on the fly without going into the settings menu

I definitely agree that the North American dual-SIM (pSIM + eSIM) options are lacking. Unlike the dual-pSIM model, pSIM + eSIM in North American models are DSDS (dual-SIM dual standby) instead of DSDA (dual-SIM dual active).

No. There is no DSDA package in the U/U1/W firmware.

I would be happy to be wrong. If there is some way to get that DSDA and whatever else is needed for Dual Active. I would be happy to try. Do you have a link to the s22 Ultra thread so I can look at what they did?

The last post in that thread seems to imply it was fixed/patched with OneUI 5. s23 Ultra users don't have the ability to roll back to Android 12

I must have missed that in the thread, that's unfortunate. Hopefully we will have a work around in the near future. Appreciate the info!

I also have this problem and hope it can be solved.
it's a little annoy because I have a sim for data and another sim for call and message.

I prefer to have my devices ask which SIM for every call. Depending on the country I am in, would determine the SIM I want to set for data.

I disagree, because i had 2 sims in my samsung Phone and it let me put from which shall be for data and which is for calls, sms/mms. So Samsung does have it, unless they removed it.

Apparently international variants have it, which I wasn't aware of, but US variants do not. This is a stupid thing for Samsung to do and I hope they fix it at some point.

I am using a s918b version. If I flash EUX Home_CSC , I will have option to select which sim for call, sms, data, and the data switch option as well. However, if I flash XAC (Canada)home_csc, then I only have one option to select which sim to be the primary sim. So I dont know, if it's a CSC related feature or not.

So If my device havevthe csc code with xaa, I can reflash with the csc which provide the dual sim manager?

Xperia Tablet Z4 - T-Mobile Support?

I about to buy this tablet, but have some concerns regarding the LTE version support with T-Mobile in the USA.
Can i use a phone sim with this tablet? **Just to be clear in regards to phone sim with T-Mobile i mean that i can use the tablet on a phone plan (voice+data) and not data only like they did in the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact**
Does it support T-Mobiles LTE bands?

Hi,
1. Yes with nano sim. Userguide: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz4tablet/userguide/
2. You can download the whitepaper for th SGP771 here: http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/whitepapers/xperia-z4-tablet-sgp771-white-paper/
And see if the T-Mobiles band is supported. (And I have no doubt that it is supported)

Doesn't say anything about T-Mobile in the US. Even when some tablets support it it is block by their network and if you put a phone sim card on it it will only do calls/sms and no data or you need to use a data-device sim card which doesnt support calls. Hence my question in regards to an specific provider.
I have a T-Mobile sim in mine right now. I can tell you that I DO NOT have a phone app in order to make calls. I am using a sim card from my second phone account. It connects to LTE fine and has good speeds on data. I am not sure if it's because the tablet is considered international or if it's blocked from T-Mobile. I contacted Sony and did not get much information.
I wish the OP or others would chime in about this. @legendindisguise may I ask what model yours is and where you got it from? What makes it more challenging is that the model number is SGP771 (right?) but for some it works for others not, so perhaps like the OP said the network is somehow blocking this feature?
Just to add to this post there is two model versions of the SGP771 with wifi and LTE I believe.
International version 43015809
Alledged US version 13035541
UK model ? Comes with keyboard 12957383
I just got a SIM card for my Xperia Z4 Tablet LTE (SGP771 / 13035541) on the AT&T network with a new AT&T account. This SIM is a new line with Phone+Data and I am having an issue making calls and making data connections (websites, etc..). I am still investigating and will update everyone when I figure something out. Odd thing is that the tablet connects to the network enough to display AT&T, the correct phone number assigned to the device, and 3 AT&T APNs, but nothing is working.

Yes I have the phone dialer
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Totally forgot to update this post! Works great on the AT&T network. I did have to call AT&T to update the APN details but after that it works great. I can make phone calls and use the LTE data without any issues. I even took it to Spain and it worked great there too.

Can the LTE versions make phone calls?

I'd like to know if the LTE versions can perform phone calls.
Does anyone know?
Thanks.

You can , just like other phone.
If fact, my MediaPad thinks it is a phone, rather than a tablet, and you can set the icon management to be like a phone too.
Works well.
It works but the as there is no earspeaker, it is always in speakermode. So you need either a headset or be fine with everybody hearing your call.

A sure way to check if it *really* thinks of itself as a phone is to put a data only sim, associated with a tablet plan in it. If it identifies itself on the network during registration and provisioning as a phone device - the speeds with data only sim will be capped to 3G, like 512k only. If it reports itself as a tablet as it should - you will get LTE service.

S21 HK eSim possibility

Hi there,
I've recently got the SM-G9910 HK version (TGY) and was wondering if there's any way to get eSim support? I'll be using this phone mainly in AT, however eSIM would be really nice.
Reading through various threads here I've learned that it might not be likely, unless changing the CSC which might imply certain "challenges" after it.
Any feedback / direction would be highly appreciated.
Anyway if this is the only "drawback" I might live with as the 888 SoC is more important to me than the current eSim support.
Thanks!
Just read a article on this, these phone already have it but not supported buy carriers yet. T-mobile might be the first to implement it though

Hi,
Yes, I've read the same, so far the Note 20 has been getting now the esim support with the latest update on t-mobile US => so there might be hope (definitely not a hardware issue).
However, according to Samsung HK live chat it's a hardware issue and thus not supported.
Let's see what future will bring this year.
It's somehow a disappointment to have this better SOC and no esim still
my s21 ultra is thru verizon. although we cant see the second imei number. they can see it. just call them ask for the second imei number registered with your phone. and then you can setup esim with another carrier. thats what i did. i have verizon as my main carrier and tmobile as the second on the esim.
@[email protected]: sounds like a great hack - would be interesting to see if others can confirm this outside of US?
I have Dual SIM on the 9910 - can imagine the second IMEI (which I can see) is just physical ? for an eSIM it would mean that either the device can bridge the IMEI for eSim or a 3rd IMEI would be required (which i doubt).
If you want I can Show you how to create a shortcut to enable mutilply sim. Sim1 and sim2. On the us s21 ultra version
actually, as I do have a HK version, with dual-SIM already enabled I would be rather interested in eSIM if there would be any way.
does your approach require root access?
Hi guys,
I also have a G9910 and I'd love to enable eSIM.
Have you had any luck so far?
Thanks,
Alex
Hi Alex - no luck so far - let's see if they'll ever do anything about this.

Question S23 Ultra (US VERSION) ESIM

Has anyone activated through ESim on Verizon? If you have how easy is it to get it done? I was reading on their site saying Android users should call in to activate the E Sim
First off, screaming with caps on isn't necessary. Secondly I have tmobile and can't get any esim to activate on any network. I've been on support from tmobile, google fi, and samsung and all they tell me is to do a factory reset and I really just don't want to do that. I even did a network reset that didn't help.

Well, def not screaming at anyone I don't know and need help from JS....hmmm, how long have you had your phone? So, you're walking around with a paper weight? @antawnm26 I'm using a physical sim on tmobile which is far from having a paperweight. @cledee I ordered it from Samsung fully unlocked and activated service through tmobile and want to use googlefi as an esim but so far the only answer I get is to fully factory reset and I honestly don't care enough to do that because I finally got everything the way I want.

When I moved from my Z Fold 3 (I am on T-Mobile) to my S23U, I moved the physical SIM. Once I set up my S23U, I went through the prompts on my phone to convert from SIM to eSIM, everything went smoothly.
My wife's S22U, I followed the same prompts and the swap was quick and easy.

Tried that multiple times with tmobile support and in store a couple times and every time resulted in no esim and a dead disabled physical sim that had to be replaced. And every time I would do a full network reset and no change. Its literally come down to me doing a factory reset and if that doesn't work samsung has said they'd have to replace my device.

Damn, rough. Well, good luck to you. I am not sure what a factory reset will accomplish as I don't think doing that does anything with the eSIM, but hey, if it does not work, at least they will replace it and try and make it right.
I have Google Fi and eSIM doesn't seem to work reliably. I followed one of the instructions out there for iPhone. At first I thought it all worked out well since you first need to be on WiFi to make that work. But once I went outside of the Wi-Fi zone, I lost the cellular data. Even the Google Fi app was complaining about no data. So that was that. I would also lose the signal all together. I have Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 on Google Fi and the eSIM on Pixel phones work without any issues. As far as iPhone is concerned, Google have put steps laid out for that device but it'll only connect to one network and it'll not switch between other network as it does with Pixel ot Samsung's.

Everything else has been thoroughly tested (or at least everything I intend on using) and works perfectly so it's not a big deal to me. If other stuff wasn't working right I'd do it, but right now the inconvenience of not having esim doesn't overcome the inconvenience of reseting a device PLUS most likely having to do it again on a replacement....
I have a Verizon Test Drive eSIM that works, a T-Mobile Test Drive eSIM that works, a Tello (T-Mobile) eSIM that works, and an AT&T Prepaid eSIM that works as well as a physical Boost Infinite SIM (using AT&T).

This sounds like it's not properly provisioned to use those features. I would contact Verizon to make sure your phone is properly registered and that the sim allows those features.

No I think you need to factory reset which sucks but have the regular Verizon sim card in your phone and it should have all the features on your phone upon activation.
This has been going on for a long time. There were threads about this on S20U and S22U forums. If you are using an U.S. Unlocked phone without the Carriers Firmware sometimes you miss out on carrier specific features. Seems to prove my point since you saw the store Verizon Phone phone with the options but not yours.
I can confirm that I have all of those features on my unlocked S23U, model SM-S918U1 using a Verizon SIM.

Also just now added a Verizon eSIM to my S23U to test and I can confirm all of the features are working on my end.
One thing of note - If registration is successful, the phone will prompt you to restart device in order to activate the features associated with the SIM. I do believe this process can get hung up or something happens that prevents it from working right (I experienced that before on previous phones) - which I think you'd need to try resetting the network config and the SIM settings and go through the process of re-adding the SIM or eSIM.

I've had the unlocked s21 ultra s22 ultra and now the s23 ultra and I never had any luck getting those features to work on any of them. The only time they worked was when I flashed the Verizon firmware. Then I lost the Samsung cloud and caller ID and spam functions. So I just resolved myself to not have those features and enjoy my unlocked phone. One other thing to note when I did have RCS on Samsung messages with the Verizon ROM it only did RCS between Verizon phones. If you do figure out how to get this working let me know cuz I'd be interested in trying it too.
Thank you

That's odd. I had the same problem with T-Mobile, but when I inserted the T-Mobile sim, it downloaded the provisioning and everything worked. It sounds to me like the provisioning possibly may not have downloaded. I'd say try having them send provisioning to your phone. If you can't get them to do it, try a different carrier's sim card, so that it downloads something else, then go back to the Verizon one, so that it pulls it down again. Maybe that will work.
I only buy unlocked because the last time I paid in full a Verizon phone they tried to tack on a $30 upgrade fee.

I'd recommend doing a factory reset then and re-adding the Verizon SIM or eSIM, and make sure to restart when prompted so the phone can install the features. You should not have to flash Verizon firmware to get those features to work on the SM-S918U1.
