Question Does mk5 overheat to an any extent? - Sony Xperia 1 V

Please share overheating related experience & issues, or lack of it you have had with newer Xperia 1 V model.
Any rigorous and real-life testing data will also be highly appreciated.
In short, does it overheat? And if so, to what extent?
Thanks

Yeah, I also watched couple of reviews but I wanted to get the info from someone who actually uses the phone daily.
Not having a overheat message displayed is a good start but by no means solves issue mk IV had, basically it was always hot, so I'm curious if mk V is really up to the task.
Thank for the link anyway

actually the issue was not in the phone itself but rather the SD Gen1 had overheating issues across all devices but in Xperia was more because Sony didn't have the best heat dissipation hardware but as for the Xperia 1 V it's another story ( they solved it)... so, my assumption is that the phone won't get the overheat message anymore and in addition to that the SD Gen2 doesn't have the same overheat issue the pervious gen has

Cooling concept is still as bad as before. SoC just doesn't draw as much....

There are phones with SD8Gen2 and WAY better results.
BUT they do claim that there is no overheating issue while filming.
Now, the good news.
First, the Xperia 1 V never became hot, warm - yes, but never uncomfortably hot.
Second, there is no display throttling; the screen refresh rate remained at 120Hz even after prolonged benchmark testing.
And third, the most important news is no more camera overheating! It was incredibly awful for a cameraphone to overheat after just 5 minutes of 4K video recording (Xperia 1 IV, we're looking at you), but that's a thing of the past. The Xperia 1 V is not even warm after shooting for 30mins in 4K, which is excellent news.
The camera overheating warnings are still there in the menus for some features, but we never experienced them, and we hope you will never do, as well.
We played a game for half an hour, too, and the Xperia 1 V was not hot and did not throttle, not obviously, at least. That's why we think most gamers and photographers alike would be happy with the improved thermals even if this was not reflected in the synthetic tests.

Any possible overheating can be reduced by either the use of a custom kernel or by aggressive tweaking of the stock Sony kernel.

you just need the phone rooted and lower the clock speed to prevent overheat.. save battery too

Underclocking and any kind of battery savings together is a myth as well as snake oil, considering that the CPU core(s) have to spend a longer time out of idle for getting the same thing done that could be done at a faster pace on a higher frequency.

Based on his testing, it seems much improved over the Xperia 1 IV

So, the above video basically answered every question I had about overheating.
I'm glad to see Sony & other relevant parties sorted out issues they had.
Now, all I need is ROOT access.
Watch it, it's really informative

[Q] Overheating? - I could use this thing as a kettle!

Has anyone else found the device gets really hot randomly without doing anything task intensive?
My latest battery temp went up to 45 degrees Celsius (113 fahrenheit).
Please shed any light on the matter!
After 15 mins of Dead Space, my SGS3 feels a little bit warmer than normal.
Also the same on HSPA+ and heavy browsing.
But 45 is way better than the 63 of HOX, maybe it's normal, maybe not.
Do some more testing, what app did you use to see the temperature?
I can test my phone and come back to this thread with results.
I have the Problem to but the temprature was up to 54 °C. I dont know why. The Phose is going hot only by surfing. The first days it be cold. After 5 Days it will be war/hot. The battery is going fast down too. The Benchmarks are bad too, antutu e.g. 3 to 5 thousand points. After Buying 12 thousand. Energy-Safemode is deactivated. The CPU Frequency is up to 800 Mhz not 1.4 Ghz.
And today....all is going fine. Its cold, the Benchmarks are high and the CPU ist 1.4 Ghz......
Very curious
and yes, my english is bad
What ROM are you on? Do you have any weird apps that run in the background?
Definitely sounds like overheating problems. Phone gets too hot, CPU scales down, standard procedure... Never happened to me.
Load the newest ROM for your area,do a full wipe, don't install many apps, check it for a day or two.
If the same happens, take it back for replacement.

Thanks, i look the next days. if the phone going hot i make a full reset. The ROM is the original Rom from Samsung. Nothing changed.
On bad reception any sync app can cause overhit.
Dude we got 4 cores !

Hi all,
Thanks for the the replies.
The ROM - is the the original I haven't rooted (I hope that's what you mean...I'm a noob at this)
I have got rid of that horrible touchwiz with apex launcher but that about the only thing that I've done (apart from install a few apps)
As the last guy said "we've got 4 cores dude" haha.
Just seems to get pretty hot had it up to 47 degree. Toasty! but haven't noticed anything drastically wrong with the battery life.
Piece out all. Thanks for all the help!
I don't seem to suffer from this but having said that I haven't used the phone to watch a movie yet or anything like that so o don't know.
Battery going down is only normal when its hot.
sent with SGS3
Well, if it gets hot while on stand-by or out of the blue, take it back.
My phone idles at 27-33c with normal use. After 15mins of NOVA 3 gameplay it goes up to 45c and feels a bit warm.
If your phone gets hot with 3G and browsing or recording video and such, 47c is totally normal, especially if you consider 4 cores and no cooling whatsoever. 47c is nowhere near to toasty though
I hope I helped you.

Play a game for 5 minutes -> phone slows down to a crawl.

Wha the **** is up with that? I'm actually raging right now.
I play any game for 5 minutes or so, and when I quit it the phone has it's performance basically halved. It goes like this: Run Quadrant Standard -> get 3300 points -> play 3D game for 5 minutes -> game slows down noticeably -> close game ->run quadrant again -> get a score of 1600.
What's up with this crap? It's so insanely aggravating. I restored my phone from PCC and it still happens. The only way to get it running decently again after it starts crawling is to reboot it.
Seriously, I've had it with this piece of crap of a phone. I think this **** crossed the line, I'm selling it.
Hrm i think it's when ur phone get hot and decrease it max cpu frequency to about 800mhz! So try some custom rom or kernels might fix the problem!

I don't have that visible underclocking under CPU Master. Mine always says 1500 as max frequency. It looks like you set it to 800 manually.
But anyway, I think it's related to overheating because I noticed that if I let it sit for a while after running a game performance goes up again.
Anyway, I don't give a crap about what's causing it. A phone should NOT overheat from normal use. Ok, it's summer and it's hot, but seriously, I've had it with this phone.
I can't deal with this. I'll just sell it and go back to my trusty ol' Xperia Ray on Gingerbread.

All high power phones have problems with overheating and becoming slow. Install a custom kernel and undervolt it, that should help. Also using a custom rom and kernel has reduced my heat problem a lot.
Of course your xperia ray doesn't have issues because it is slow. A dual core in a phone is going to heat up.
I have played shadowgun for 30 minutes without any slowdown.

Hi, few days ago I pulled the trigger on a padfone mini x
they were onsale for $100 and a replacement was needed for my xperia Z3 to go back for repair (it was bent )
this padfone was a Great idea (kind of too heavy tho), great price, but man.. this particular device is pretty sluggish,
takes forever to do ANYTHING, it reminds me of my xperia x10 (The very first Sony smartphone).
6 hours into it at work; HOLY COW it was unbearable! my productivity was extremely low.
I noticed the battery was pretty bad as you mentioned..
However, things improved quite a bit after you get rid of the bloatwares from AT&T & pre installed **** app running in the background.
Just follow the pro's guides, step by step and you will be good to go. Promise!
P.S. don't use smart saving mode, it piss me off. Tasks takes 30 seconds on google map with Smart Saving mode will take you 3 minutes, because it is constantly lagging.
I am thinking to make a root video for this device when maybe this weekend. :cyclops:

Good advice but for me, the best things that I did was to (1) uninstall all of the AT&T software, (2) uninstall ANYTHING from Google that you can download from the store which means to NOT uninstall Play Services or Play Store, (3) uninstall the Google app. That thing sucked up so much RAM because I think it was doing the whole "Ok Google" thing and it was sucking down resources. After doing all of that and installing Root Booster, this phone lasts all day with plenty to spare and is very stable when i used Root Booster's Stability mode.
Basically any app that is installed by default that you update (like Google Play Music, Play Videos, etc.) takes up local storage space.

H870DS - New Firmware V10H-AUG-25-2017

Started downloading this morning, just applying it now. Changelog didn't say much at all. improvement to android etc etc.
Update was 600Mb roughly.
Hoping it allows wifi-calling and similar home UI to new Lg v30 ..here's hoping!
This is in UK btw - purchased the phone from an online retailer. Taiwan version I think.

Seriously...how difficult is it to come up with a proper Releasenote? This tells us exactly nothing....
The Phone feels pretty well with this update. in a german forum, a guy said he got 30.000 more in antutu, sounds pretty high.
My LG G6 (H870DS) went from a score of about 105000 in Antutu with the previous firmware to about 145000 with this new one.
After a second test with this new firmware, Antutu score increased to 150500.
Also tested Geekbench 4:
CPU - single-core: 1755
CPU - multi-core: 4063 (about the same as with the previous firmware)
Compute: 7074 (about 6000 with the previous firmware).
No new update here and I am in India

I also got this new update. No changes, but my impression is a smoother smartphone. I Hope someone can unlock damn bootloader.
Still nothing on T-Mobile CZE, can I do manual update? Thx for reply... I will appreciate if one hand mode can be fixed. It works like a lottery ..
Applied yesterday. Now my G6 doesn't last a working day till battery runs out. Phone runs hot and android system uses 25% battery.
anyone notice the battery life is now really solid with V10h? either that, or my battery indicator is stuck!
fast charged from 15% to 80% this morning. since then, took several photos, banged out some SMS and Whatsapp msgs, read a few emails, took a couple calls. not exactly heavy stuff. however, my phone is STILL on 80%, more than two and a half hours later.
will see how it plays out for the rest of the day, but this is looking promising ...
edit: now over three and a half hours, still @ 80% ...

Likewise, battery life is terrible on standby and while screen is on, Motorola need to fix asap to resolve this debacle.

8 hours SOT isn't bad
Here's mine
Was this ever fixed?
Unfortunately no, the only things I have found to help is disabling NFC and setting Suspend execution for cached apps to enabled in developer settings.
One guy on the official forums for the phone pointed out that there's missing management of the cores, so most power hungry core(s) stays active when it should be off: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/motoro...n-issue-while-Idle/m-p/5133194?page=9#5817360
Motorola hasn't appeared to acknowledged the issue, most likely the support team is out of their depth.
My two cents is if the Android 13 update doesn't help, this phone will never have good battery life. At that point it's unlikely Motorola will revisit the battery drain on this phone and actually fix the issue.
EDIT: Also important to note, the auto mode for refresh rate doesn't appear to do anything but run 120hz unconditionally, so manually setting your phone to 60hz is sometimes necessary if you know you're going to need endurance. A lot of battery is lost to stupid things like this.

this appears more to be an issue with the current version of the system. And not a deficiency with the phone, but yeah the a52s looks to be real good.
