xda has the ability to track minutes of calls used, and you can
reset this also. Anyone heard of a tool to automatically reset
the minutes used based on a monthly date?
This way, you might have some indication of how many minutes
youve used, if you have any free minutes on your pay plan.

monthly call counter reset
Smart... I guess that could be made once we can talk to the phone from WinCE. We're working on that now...

Hi guys,
it took me days to find somewhere to buy a serial cable, but on
e-bay i found one from www.moonlight-tech.com and I paid about
$16 for it. (against eur. 29 in Holland). This is not an
advertisement but just an advice.
Bye.

Thanks for the tip, I ordered one too.

AT&T vs T-MOBILE

Hi:
Up until now, I have been using T-Mobile ever since the XDA came out.
Used a "visorphone" before that. I do NOT use T-Mobile's Internet access (T-zones) ever since I got hit with a $180+ overage charge the first month I used it.
So.
Here is my issue:
Starting a few months ago, I noticed that, even though I do NOT use T-Mobile for any Internet access (I call up my own ISP instead from the XDA), T-Mobile are charging me something like $.50 for every email sent or received from the XDA using my own ISP. I suppose they monitor the traffic or something. When I protested that they shouldn't charge me for anything Internet-related, only the minutes used to call my ISP, they told me basically that they don't give a damn what I think, and that I will continue to be charged $.50 for every email. They show up on my bill as "e-note" to the phone number "500."
I think that's ridiculous and possibly illegal since it doesn't involve their servers or their services at all, but I don't have the energy to deal with their untrained "Wireless Data Group." It would take years to explain this to them. Just getting them on the phone took over 1 hour. This is partly a warning post, that this is what T-Mobile is doing, and we should know about it. So, I am looking into switching to AT&T.
My questions for anyone reading this:
1) anyone else have that billing issue with t-mobile?
2) is at&t any better? do they charge for internet traffic even if you haven't signed up for their services?
3) i don't think i have simlock issues, the unlock util from this site says that it's already unlocked. rom is 4.00.21 ENG, radio stack 6.24.00
from yorch.net.
4) is there anything i should know? won't this t-mobile build of "windows mobile 2003" rom work with at&t ?
any info appreciated, you can email thomas at pullen.com (removed the @ for the spam bots).
thanks!
TMO is pretty bad, iv experienced their levels of ignorance too, but once in a while, u can incounter sumone who knows alot about what they do
you should have never used tzones (if it wasnt unlimited) for transfering big amounts of data, thats why u got charged so much, for going over the allowd data amount
when connecting to your own ISP, are u connecting using THEIR # ? ... if so, then i dont know where TMO gets these ideas 4 charging u extra + the phone call
to unlock u need to go back to a 2002 rom, with the unlock software
ur build will work, but it would be better to switch to 4.00.05 , since u wont need all the useless TMO apps and what not
Hey tpullen,
Sorry to hear about your terrible time with T-Mobile.
Q: What type of plan do you have with T-Mobile?
If its only a voice plan with no data the .50 sounds about right and will be the same if you move over to AT&T. As a matter of fact AT&T's data charges are higher.
It doesn't matter that you're calling your own ISP, the fact still remains you're sending/receiving data on a voice only plan.
HTH
thanks
hey:
thanks for the replies. to answer your questions:
i had the t-mobile 3,000 minutes for $49 plan. it is only free long distance for the southeast u.s.; i think it's called a 'neighborhood' plan.
no data at all in my plan; i would call my own isp and surf the web and check email. only about 3 months ago t-mobile started charging me to check email, but not for the web. my complaint is that i am using my own isp, and the call comes out of my minutes. yes, it's sending data with a voice-only plan, but hey! i have a dial-up phone line, nothing fancy, a land line in my house. it's voice-only. if i plug a modem into my home phone line and call my isp, should i expect to get a bill from my phone company for every email i look at? to my way of thinking, and anyone is free to disagree, if i'm not USING your services then i don't want to PAY for your services. unless it is a t-mobile email, web, or proxy server i'm talking to, i don't expect to pay t-mobile. the minutes were already being deducted from my available minutes. that's all i should have to pay.
i don't think that's so outrageous.
i did unlock my phone with the xda dev build, then went back to the same tmobile windows mobile 2003 build. i wasn't sure if the xda "stays unlocked" once you unlock it and then put a new rom on, but it does.
now i have an at&t sim, and it works well enough, but the sort-of-funny thing is that you apparantly can NOT just call your own isp with at&t.
i can't seem to get a connection to work. so i don't know. maybe i will stay with at&t since they, according to their sales literature anyway, have a data network that's like 3 times faster than t-mobile's data network.
of course it's more $ for them.
whatever the case, i have 30 days to try at&t with no obligation, cancel any time, owe them nothing. everyone has that option right now, in fact, due to the new ftc "local number port" thing happening.
i'll let ya'll know how it goes if i stick with at&t. i can always stay with t-mobile, but i'm not sure if that's a good idea.
Re: thanks

Sounds like you're talking about the EDGE service. Yeah, like 4 times the cost of T-Mobile's unlimited plan. I think I'll stick to the cheaper slower service.

Owe them nothing?! You might want to read that literature again. You'll not pay a cancellation fee nor an activation fee, but you will owe them for the prorated amount of time you had service, and any other additional fees that you use. This is pretty standard in the wireless industry. So if you go over your prorated minutes for the month, you owe them airtime charges. Happened to me, so just be careful.
bye bye at&t
hi arkhangel:
yes, you are correct:
4. Every new customer gets a 30 day risk free trial. When you purchase a phone and activate service at an AT&T Wireless store or at attwireless.com, you can return your undamaged phone for a refund within the first 30 days and pay only for airtime and usage charges. It’s just one more way we can earn your trust.
so it is not without charge, and thank god i only made one 6-minute call.
as far as the EDGE network goes, it was so-so...i only viewed 2 webpages with it, they loaded pretty much as quickly as with any other data service over the xda...and the funny thing is that it consumed apparantly almost 2 mb to do so.
i am pretty frustrated now, the at&t customer service has been pretty rotten, but t-mobile isn't too great either.
i'm calling verizon next, to compare...

The phone is programmed to send an SMS to T-Mobile every time you reboot your PPCPE. These show up as e-notes to 500 just as you describe. Compare the timing of your email use vs. the timing of your reboots and see where the e-notes are coming from. I think you can purchase a bundle of a bunch (500?) of SMS messages (aka e-notes) for something like $2.99, so you could cap your cost that way.
You should also be aware that T-Mobile has gone to a flat rate for GPRS at $19.95 for unlimited internet. The comparable plan with AT&T is something like $80.

warning

I brought a rubber case suround from my HTC HD ( expansys.com) , they sent me an email saying :
" I'm sorry for the delay in your order. Demand for the cases has been very high and we have had a lot of backorders predating your own.
We should receive enough stock to fulfill your order in about 2 weeks. Thank you for your patience.

Robert

Yea they got me also. . . and every time i call they keep telling me another two weeks to a month before they even receive the cases. . . It has been over a month since i ordered it (feb 27th to be exact) I'm pretty pissed to say the least
Expansys are very good if the item is in stock. My advice is, if it's out of stock, just cancel your order immediately. They always have a stock expected date and it just keeps getting put back. You can wait for months!

warning for not ordering your nexus 10 in the play store, but at simply electronics

Hi, this thread is only for those who don't already own the Google nexus 10! It is also only for those who live in a country in which the play store doesn't sell the nexus 10. For example, I'm from the Netherlands and Google does not sell the nexus 10 here. So I looked for an alternative and I found one. The site simply Electronics had the nexus 10 in stock for €420,- and with free delivery. But it didn't went well. Simply electronics comes with a big README, and I want to share that. This is my blog and warning for fans of wanted tech.
I ordered a nexus 10 at simply electronics and I want to share how I got my nexus 10. I did a lot of research before I ordered at simply electronics, and I did see a lot negative reviews. I also saw that simply electronics is located in Hong Kong. But all that didn’t scare me, because if you read them well, it turns out that only very impatient people were negative. They couldn’t wait 3 weeks or they didn’t read the delivery time was in WORKING days. All those impatient people cancelled their order and it went wrong from there. I’m not going to discuss those negative reviews about canceling your order, you can read them yourself. Here is how I got my nexus 10:
Monday March 11, 2013: I ordered a nexus 10, 16GB black from simply electronics. There were 10 in stock, and after I ordered one, there were only 9 in stock. I got some emails with order confirmation and everything so far went well. My nexus 10 would be delivered in 7 to 14 WORKING days. Yeah, first time I saw 1 to 2 weeks, but it’s of course 2 to 3 weeks.
Friday March 15, 2013: Today I got an email from customer service. I had to send personal information, a utility bill and a picture of my driver’s license or ID card. This would be used to check if I really live at the address that I used for my order. This mail scared the **** out of me, but I did send that information. I appreciate that simply electronics wants to be secure, but asking this information doesn’t give me a safe feeling at all. I could expect a reply in 24 hours.
24 hours and one minute later… I didn’t got an email, but, silly me, it was Saturday -_-
Monday March 18, 2013: I received an email around 9 in the morning and my information was correct. They could continue with my order. The status of the order at my account said that my order was in queue.
Wednesday march 20, 2013: Just checking (like every day, can’t wait), simply electronics has one 16GB nexus 10 in stock
Thursday march 21, 2013: Nexus 10 16 GB out of stock and my order status turned to: Your order is progressing. It is pending stock allocation or quality check before it goes out for delivery. Doubts go through my mind like crazy! Read the terms and conditions and it said indeed that simply electronics is located in Hong Kong. In the terms and conditions is also mentioned how canceling and returning works, doesn’t look easy.
Friday march 22, 2013: Order status changed: Order Awaiting Dispatch. Your order is pending courier dispatch. An email will be sent with the tracking details once it is shipped. I hope it is sent before the weekend.
Tuesday april 2, 2013: My girlfriend, who also ordered a google nexus 10 at simply electronics, became a little nervous. So I made a call to customer service why it took so long. waited 20 minutes on the phone and finally I got to speak with an american(who was actually in Hong Kong). He helped me just fine and all, but all he could do was to raise priority to high. I asked him why they didn’t change the promised delivery time to one month and he said all he could do was to make a note to the director. He told me that the order had some delay because my information was checked after the weekend and that it may be shipped friday, but it should be shipped before next tuesday. He just couldn’t see how long it is really going to take before dispatch. He also told me to save a screenshot or something like that from the date and time I signed for the delivery company that I received my order. This is important, because you need it when you want to use the one year warranty.
Tuesday April 8, 2014: no that's a joke, it's 2013. But it just feels like I've been waiting for a year. Still I didn't got an email with tracking details. So I made a call again. This time it's really crazy what they told me: at the quality check they found that the nexus 10 might be damaged. Then I asked about my girlfriend's order and it was the same story. The supplier got them nexus 10's, which might be damaged. Expected delivery date? Of course they wouldn't give me one. As soon as possible is what I hear for a month now.
Tuesday, April 16, called again, blablabla, expected dispatch date: early next week. Sight...
Monday, april 22, order checked: Packed: Your order is awaiting courier pick-up and will be dispatched today or latest next working day. FINALY
Wednesday, April 24, nexus 10 finally arrived
Conclusion: I’m happy with my nexus 10, but I’m not going to buy from simply electronics ever again. They are not honest enough. They let you die in doubt, because they never tell you what the status of your order really is. I don’t mind they are located in Hong Kong, but I do mind they not tell you. Why not tell if everyone already knows? It’s in the terms and conditions, but who will read those anyway? I also do not mind to wait a month for a delivery. But I need to know what is really happening. One tip for all the persons who already ordered and feel the same as me, DON’T cancel! Your order will probably arrive, it may take more time then you were told, but if you cancel your order you will probably never see your money again. And save a copy of the delivery date for your warranty.

Question Can I break a contract I signed with T-Mobile for the new Galaxy S23 Ultra?

Can I break a contract I signed with T-Mobile for the new lavender Galaxy S23 Ultra?
(If this belongs in another place, please move it.)
I signed the deal on Feb 16th and was told then I'd get it in 2-5 business days, no later than the 23rd.
Phone didn't come. Went back to store and asked them, they said it's coming anytime. Then I went online chat with T-Mobile last Saturday and they told me they were shipping Monday, (today) and I'd get it by Wed. Guess what, they lied again, the phone wasn't shipped. Now on chat they said it would be shipped between Feb 27 - March 3rd. So three different dates.
On same chat she said I could get a local phone that is in stock if I wanted to downgrade from 512GB storage and 12GB memory to 256GB Storage & 8GB memory. And get this, with the new deal I'd end up owning $15 more a month on my payments. I said no thanks and exited the chat.
I ordered this on the 16th thinking I had plenty of time to get this before our vacation on March 5th.
And it looks like it's not going to come and it will automatically get shipped back due to I can't sign for it.
They lied to me three different times now.
I'm really mad at T-Mobile and want out of the deal and find another provider. Our three phones are paid off and we don't owe anything unless I'm stuck with this new deal. I figured since I don't have the new phone yet, I can back out.
Advice please and maybe links to help me with this.
You just send it back within 14 days of receipt and you can get out of it.
Didn't read everything, but I have O2 and you have 14 days to cancel the contract.
If you didn't pre-order it's my understanding that the higher storage options are on backorder which technically isn't t-mobiles fault but as others have said when you do get it you have 14 days to return it and you can basically undo the whole order and payment within 14 days.

Okay, here is the problem. I ordered this phone the 16th, 12 days ago. I don't have the phone since it hasn't been shipped yet. In T-Mobil chat yesterday they he said: " It is already ready to be shipped and the most recent estimated ship date for the phone is between 02/27/2023 - 03/02/2023." So I think they want to make sure I don't get the phone before Feb 2nd so I can't change my mind and send it back. If it hasn't gotten here by the time I leave for vacation, it will be sent back as I have to sign for it.

Even if it is said in delivery, say them you want to cancel now.
You're within the 14 days and they simply won't ship the phone.worst case you'll need to Return it manually
Keep track of everything, written, picture if applicable, screenshot, etc.
Even in 2023 I couldn't believed how skcetchy provider still are.
I did cancel my 1st S23U feb9, and now feb 28, still no sign of my money, over 1200$.
2nd provider, had issue to close the contract by phone, did online and the plan online wasn't the same as my call. Wen to a store to speak face-to-face, had a agreement and surprise ! got a 50 $ charge because I spoke with a human. Indeed, if I had it done 100% online, no extra charge. Despite the fact this is not a hidden fees, they are not really willing to point it to you...
Spent overall 10h on that (call, return, nego, explanation) + 2 credit check (equifax sent me few notif) + fuel = I could have paid a brand new s23U will all my time lost.
And not done yet, still waiting for my $.
Here we are lucky with credit cards, if you have all the proof, they don't really ask question, they backcharge.
I wont do it for the 50$ , because Ive no argument, but im tempted. Here we already get screwed hard 53$ / month (no phone) for 6gb and 4g plan. And yes , if you're are a no-body, this is pretty much the cheapest when you pair it with a flagship. Overall , including 50% S23U financing, it cost me 93$/month + 830$ cashdown.
ouch

Before launching chargebacks which could result in the carrier canceling your wireless plan and refusing to continue doing business with you, I'd suggest filing an ftc complaint which if I'm not mistaken includes protection against retaliation
If you want to cancel your order, reach out to T-Mobile through DM on Facebook or Twitter and explain to the T-Force Team (automatically tier 2 support) that you will not be there to receive it. FedEx has been leaving packages at people's doors without knocking and ignoring the Signature Required for delivery due to "COVID". Y ou don't want to take the chance that it doesn't arrive and shows up and is left at your door while you won't be there.

Is that a fact? 14 days from the time I actually have the phone in hand?
So would I get to use the phone during the days from the time I get the Phone. That would be great. at period? There are a couple bugs I want to work on on the contract that I'm confused on... the MAX Magenta 55 plan and why I'm only getting $77 for a mint S31+ 5G phone with no scratches, scuffs or blemishes on it anywhere. If I keep this phone, I want to pay the $77 and keep that phone for a backup, but salesperson said the trade in was required with MAX Magenta 55 ???
The reason I'm sayin this is I just found out the Phone is on the way and I should have it in hand tomorrow.

Sorry, I used to work for tmobile years ago. The customer service teams that answer Facebook and Twitter DMs on the offical T-Mobile social media accounts are called tforce. When I worked for tmobile they would be people from your general area and/or timezone after they authenticated you with your tmo account login
Is anybody here familiar with T-Mobile's MAX Magenta 55
They said I was required to have my three lines with Max Magenta 55 added to my main plan for $10 each monthly for two years. That is $30 a month / $720 for 24 months Making the total bill counting $135 + $11.54 a month for the phone. If I don't accept, I don't get the $1000 off the phone. The main question is why do I have to have all three lines with that, one line is not used at all, just for emergency calls for my aging Papa. So, I'd like to take that line out.
It seems like with that max deal and my phone, T-Mobile is recouping back $800 of that $1000? Not really that good of a deal.
The other question was in regards to only getting $77 for my mint and I mean mint S21+ 5G phone. I'd like to keep it and just pay the $77 which goes paying for the new phone.

The other question was in regards to only getting $77 for my mint and I mean mint S21+ 5G phone. I'd like to keep it and just pay the $77 which goes paying for the new phone.

This is exactly why I always buy Unlocked and Trade-In my phones with Samsung directly. Pop the Sim from old phone in and it works. No Contracts, No Carrier Bloat and No Stress. Just the same Prepaid T-Mobile $32.95 a month plan with 5GB Data and Unlimited Text plan I have had for years.

Any contract can be broken, return it or stop making payments.
