Light Cosmetic Damage - UK Repair Centre? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi All,
I've had my PDA just over 1 week now and love it, what a great tool. However, I have lightly damaged/marked the outer front facia and it's really annoying me considering its sooo new. Can anyone recommend a UK repair centre that can fit and replace facias please.
Most people would live with the marks on my XDAii but I do like to look after my new expensive items!
Many thanks
Paul.

better go back to O2 shop and ask

Well its been marked twice since I bought it, just started to get use to the first mark when I dropped the phone today and marked it again. O2 first time round said it would cost about £80 all in to send it away and replace the facia but I want to know "the word on the street" prices if you know what I mean or at least a choice between repair centres.

As far as I know you can get any cheaper in UK unless in HK

Maybe buy a dummy phone on ebay and swap the case.

XDA repair needed - please help

Just before Christmas, I noticed that the XDA wasn't charging. Closer
examination revealed that, horror of horrors, there was a dent in the
casing which had bent the power connector terminal. The overall size of
the dent is about as big as the point of a pencil. It appears to have
been caused by a key whilst in my pocket, and whilst in its "protective"
leather case!
O2 told me to send it off the their specialist repair place in Norwich (
Radiophone Ltd), although the shop manager was pretty unhelpful, telling
me that if only I'd taken out insurance, he could have given me another
one - he was more interested in selling me a replacement. Eventually he
arranged for a jiffy bag to be sent to me to send it off in (It apparently
isn't possible to do this yourself). I was rather annoyed - although the
invoice says "insurance declined" on it, nothing was mentioned at the
time, AND it was £399 when I got it, AND I was ill and unable to take it
back within 14 days, AND the price then fell £100, AND they doubled the
memory to 64MB (you get the picture!). Probably I wasn't therefore as
reasonable about this as I might have been, because I started making
comments about Sale of Goods Act, Merchantable quality and so on.
To cut a long story (or even a longer one if I'm honest) short, the O2 XDA
repair centre says that it can't be repaired economically. I don't
believe them - the visible damage is so slight I think you could sell the
XDA without anyone noticing until they realised it wouldn't charge, and it
worked absolutely fine until the battery gave up. I think it likely that
a replacement connector on the bottom would fix it. The problem is O2 are more interested in selling me another one, and they tell me there is
nowhere in the UK where I could send it for a second opinion (I think
that's wrong too - the connector is physically the same as the iPaq and
Orange SPV).
To make matters worse I bought this on the one credit card I have that
doesn't have purchase protection!!!!
Anyway, the question is, does anyone know where I could send the dead XDA for a second chance of getting it fixed?
cheers
Richard
Oops, how silly do _you_ feel?
Unless you can find someone accredited by O2/HTC to repair under warranty there is nowhere else in the UK.
I would try to start again, telling O2 that the damage existed right out of the box.... Therefore, it is covered under warranty.
It's not honest, but they are not at all helpful are they? Personally I think O2 are rubbish. they make millions and when something like this comes down the line all they want is your money... again! and having only one service and repair facility is deplorable!

Cracked my screen need replacement for BA any ideas!!

Help!! Need a replacement screen for my BA anybody have a spare or know where to get a replacement screen for a reasonable price. Not sure how I broke it but there is a crack down the center of the screen and now it w'ont work.
I am really sorry for you. I cracked my iPAQ screen a while ago and found a replacement at ipaqrepair.co.uk....but I guess they are only for iPAQs
I know how you must feel
Thanks will check it out anyway and yes totally gutted I use the BA for everything like having my right arm cut off ,
Have noticed that it is only the glass that is cracked it is not bleeding at all and i think that the digitizer is only mlfunctioning because of the crack is it possible just to replace the glass panel and not the lcd display?
Try calling HTC Europe at 08712-23-0217. Leave a message and they will call you back in a day time. Just tell them your problem and see how much would they charge for it. I've got my under warranty HTC Charmer to them TWICE for some speaker/motherboard problem, and so far so good. Their service is better than I expect from a Taiwan company.

Yes it is, there are 2 distinct types of digitiser though, the sony and the toppolly one. There is another poster selling just a digitiser, I went into more detail in that thread. HTCEurope a: won't repair and XDA IIs and b: won't swop just the digitiser, they swop the entire LCM assembly.
Richard
Just been quoted £125 to repair the screen by a company called Apex, trouble is the phone only cost me £150 in my book thats beyond econmical repair if it was a car it would be a write off.I think it will have to be an insurance job (get a free one with bank account) unless someone comes up with a reasonable price on a used one.

The sony one he has can be 'widenend' to fit any LCD so it doesn't matter what's in your phone - just remove the warranty seal completley - the odds are they won't repair your handset they'd just replace anyway if you claim on insurance as they would have to use new parts - no trawling ebay for them to fix your phone....
Richard
Well guys sent my BA off to the insurance company and had a phone call today said they could not repair or replace it, and then THEY DESTROYED MY PHONE and then they said they can give me a cash settlement or the choice of Nokia n91 or the n90 what do you guys think, what should I go for? and more to the point how much would the cash settlement be as you can no longer get the blue angel anymore new that is.
Anybody been in this situation would not mind the n91 but it is not satnav capable at the moment and I need this capability.
Check the prices on somewhere like expansys, get the more expensive, flog it on ebay, buy a 2nd hand blueangel.
I sold a boxed MDA III for just £100 on there the other week :-(
PM me and I might be able to help if you need it sourcing one.
Can't fix it my @$$.....muppets.
They should not have destroyed your phone and infomed you after the event IMO.
EDIT - IIRC expansys do still have the [email protected] £600. Ask them for a cheque!!!!!...
Richard
Yes was surprised they did not ask me first but oh well still have the mini s just like having the bigger screen for sat nav loooking t expansys think your right I'll go for the money.
Update insurance have coughed up £450 not bad considering I only got it for £150

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! HELP.....pleaseeee???????

can't FU**ING believe it...just dropped my phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Result = phone works, but screen is SMASHED, in a big way!!!
ARRGHHHHH....can't belive it.
Had it in a nice protector as well - it hit the concrete, protector came off, split in 3 bits and screen totally wiped out, smashed....gutted.
I'm on orange contract, didn't pay for any extra insurance, but only had the phone for just under 3 months....will i be able to get it replaced for free????
If not, can someone please, pretty please recommend a good site etc on where I can buy a new screen?>??
do I buy just the screen or have to buy other bits??
any help would be sooooo much appreciated.
thnaks
Matt
Grim!
I would not recommend you buying a screen and installing it your self, not unless your very handy, but this will void your warranty.
I would send it to HTC service centre (have a look on the web) and get it repaired professionally.
It will cost you around 150 quid but will still be warrantied.
I dropped mine, screen was fine but the underneath didnt work.
Sent it to the repair center, may cost like 100-150 but I know it will be done properly
im not claiming to have any experience fittin a hd2 screen, but i have fitted a lg cookie lcd screen replacement when i dropped my old phone, and its easier to replace than you might think.
In the lg cookie (touch screen as well) it is a bit trickey, but as long as you write down where the cables went, (there was about 3) then its just a simple case of re-connecting the ribbon cable to the screen.
Not as hard as you might think, just open it up and have a look.
Yes the warrenty might void, but how often do phones just decide to break on there own anyway??

seems decent, somes with a pry tool and the correct screwdriver to get it open.
Just make sure you dont get any dust on it when your fitting it! lol
Just in case if you want to repair it yourself, look at the assembling and disassembling training video from HTC.
You can find them here at least you will know which tools to use and which order has to be followed.
and here you can download the complete service manual
Update = my House insurance is paying for a brand new phone..hehehe.
Well, not yet, but got a nice cheque off them for £450.
WAS tempted to look at the HTC Desire...but..NAHH...just can't resist the HD2.
Or should I wait for the HD3>????
what would you do??
cheers

Repairs..

Has anyone had any luck getting this phone repaired out of warranty? Im having a hell of a time finding a place that can/will do repairs on this device, most of them cant even get parts.... The last HTC i had also had a blown speaker.. I was able to order a new speaker on ebay for a few bucks and replace it my self in about 15mins. Obviously not the case with this one
The cost really outweighs the option of the repair. I had my first one 3 days before the screen cracked. Now im not sure about now but the glass alone for the repair was going to cost the retailer 200.00. You could probably buy a newer or new One S off Craigslist or Ebay for less than that. Turn around and sell the broken one to.an.electronics shop for parts. That's what I did. I work for T-Mobile so getting a new one wasn't a problem. There's a guy on here that asked for a donor One S. He is experienced with glues and thinks he can find a way to open it. If he can then a repair may be an option. Most electronics.stores will just say the it was not built to be dismantled and refuse to work on it. Good luck man

repair prices

My gf damaged her Z2 this week, she got drunk after getting more bad news about her recent MS diagnosis (which in turn is worse as she has MS). I had to go fetch her and by the time I found her she had dropped her phone multiple times, so its pretty damaged on the outsiide. The back is smashed, a port cover is missing and the edges are worn. Obviously this wont be covered by warranty, I wondered if anyone had ideas of repair costs. At a minimum back replaced and port cover replaced. I am not sure if the front is chipped, it felt like it might be but could also just be the protector, so also how much for the whole thing?.
Im just looking for an idea at the costs for these, I know there is a chance nobody here will know but thought id ask just in case. We cant afford it right now for certain so there is no point sending it in to get a quote we know we cant pay, to then pay money we cant really afford to waste right know just to get it back.
Sad to hear! All the best to your gf.
Which country are you from? In Germany you get such covers for a couple of Euros and can replace it by your own.
As for the back you can find private repair services from 30 Euros on, I heard charging one authorized service partner about 100 Euros up to 250 Euros at the official Sony partner. But as long as it's just cosmetic it should be possible at a reasonable price.
