Agile XMPP how to login ? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I am running Agile messenger, there an XMPP option, it asks for login and password.
Is this suppose to allow you to connect to any jabber server ? Because if it is I don't see how I can enter my server and port for my jabber server ?
Any help apprecaited.

Jabber port is always default (5222) and cannot be changed in the current version(3b). The server is specified after the @ sign in the username.
BTW, you should better ask this kind of questions in the general forum, as it has nothing to do with TyTN upgrading...

Sorry agreed its the wrong forum, cannot see a way I can change the forum now.
OK here a harder one, out jabber server username is our email address, so there already an @ example
[email protected]
so login would look like
[email protected]@myjabber.server.com
obviously not working, anyway to make it understand the first @ is part of the username ?

I think you should use just [email protected] as username, at least this works for me, but myjabber.server.com == mycompany.com

Tried that no luck, also tried putting / before @ in username and \ but still no good. I think its limited, really need seprate box for server would save the grief.

HOWTO: POP3 and SMTP made EAZY! on the X01HT

Hello everyone, this is for everyone who would like to get POP3 E-Mail working perfectly on there Hermes.
Model: X01HT
Boot loader: 1.09
ROM: RUU_HERMES_HTC_WWE_1[1].35.255.2_1.35.255.102_1.08.00.10_SHIP.EXE
Carrier: Softbank
Alright, you might have gotten MMS mail to work as I did and then you realized that there are some heavy limitations that correspond with the MMS setup; however there are none with POP3. So POP3 is the obvious choice because it can work with Softbank’s free internet connection without having to do some nifty proxy action to get your MMS mail to work (and we are not sure that part is free yet). Thankfully there is a solution but being a newb like I am it took me a while to figure it out, and I believe there are other newbs out there, so this HOWTO is for all the newbz like me.
All right.
#1. Get a Gmail account, or if you have a pop account with another internet provider this will work too! However, you still need a Gmail account so you can use their SMTP server and send E-Mail from your phone! Your current provider's sendmail server won't work due to your ISP's security restrictions! You need a public sendmail server and the obvious choice is Google... since it's free... makes sense? Just agree damnitt! Ok, get your gmail account at www.gmail.com
#2. Go into Pocket Outlook or "Messaging" on your X01HT!
- Click on
- "Menu" -=>"Tools" -=> "New Account"
- Now you are at "E-mail Setup 1/5"
- Type in your email account which people will see as your return email address
eg. [email protected]
or eg. [email protected]
- Now you are at the "Email Setup 2/5" Auto configuring
- It will do it's auto configuration so let it do it's thing
- Now "Email Setup 3/5" User Information
- Type in your name, people will see this name.
- Here is where it gets important, if you have a Gmail account, type in your username from your gmail account, if you are using your ISP's POP3 account, then type in your username from your ISP.
eg. cool
- On password of course type in your password from your Gmail account or your ISP's pop3 account, click on save password checkbox then click next.
- All right you are successfully on the "Email Setup 4/5" screen! WOO, that means you’re awesome.... I think, so... we are almost there. You should see something that says "Account Type: POP3" and name "Name this anything you want" then click on next.
- "Email Setup 5/5" is your heart beginning to beat fast... I know mine is.... I LOVE EMAIL... It’s so friggen exciting! OKKKK here we go... onto one of the final steps.
- Under "Incoming Mail:" write your mail server's name, if it is Gmail, then type, "pop.gmail.com:995" (995 is the port you are connecting on), if it is your own E-mail POP3 server from your own internet service provider usually it is just connecting on the default POP3 port of 110 and so you just need to type in your pop3 server.
eg. pop.interbaun.com
- Under Outgoing mail server this HAS TO BE LIKE THIS, because there are VERY few free mail servers in the world and Google just happens to be one of them, so I would highly recommend getting a Gmail account for this because.... it is free, free=good and "="=Softbank. HA ... never mind... OK… here we go... to continue the most step by step email setup in history... ok ... here we go..
- "Outgoing Mail: smtp.gmail.com:465"
- Click -=> "Options" (Options 1/3) then Click -=> "Next" -=> (Options 2/3) then this is important, if you are completely on Google, and you are using a google email address to pop, then you must click on "Require SSL Connection" but if you are using your ISP's email address then do not click on the checkbox.
- Click on "Outgoing Mail Requires"
- Click on "Use Separate Settings"
- Click on "Outgoing Settings"
- Type in your Gmail username under "Username"
- Type in your Gmail password under "Password"
- Click on the checkbox "save password"
- Click on "Require SSL for outgoing Mail"
- Click on "OK" in the top right hand corner of the friggen LCD screen damnitt
- Click on "Next" You will then see a message box and within the message box is "Get message headers only", you can change this to "Get full copy of messages" but... I don't, I really don't see any reason too, because we all get friggen spam and there will be an option below each email to download a full copy of the email if we want...so really there is no point cuz if you look underneath it, it will say in a checkbox "Include 2KB of message body" which is more than enough to get a good idea of what is going on..... Anyways.... yer done...
- Click on "Finish"
This has been brought to you just cuz, for some reason I had a seriously huge problem figuring this one out, anyways, hope this can help some people, and If you have any comments or questions, feel free to message me, it never hurts to help . And..... umm.. ya... gnite'!
-Joe.
WHAT THE HELL? I JUST EDITED IT TO MAKE A SPELLING ERROR AND IT DELETED MY ORIGIONAL POST???? I HAVE THE ORIGIONAL POST AT HOME, I WILL FIX IN A COUPLE HOURS!!!?!??! THE HELL!? .... this is retarted. **FIXED** sorry about the delay, but damn that was an annoying problem, well, I guess I will just not edit any of this stuff at work anymore.....

Thanks for the guide, but i am running into a small problem. I am only able to retreive the first 275 messages in my gmail account. Is there a limot in mobile outlook that I can change? Thanks
keep getting Incoming e-mail password
@kilihari -
i followed your set to setup gmail and defined a POP3 gmail. i tried to connect to the gmail and did a send/receive from the mail Menu option. then i keep getting the Incoming E-mail password screen. retype the username and password, it did not retrieved my gmail e-mail
please advice.
Very good explanation Kilihari! Great work.
I was wandering though how would this affect the phone bill if you dont have the flat rate unlimited internet?
I want to keep my bill as low as possible, so although I got the Gold plan from the promotion I didn't get any internet package.
solve own problem:
after you have completed Kilihari's POP3 setup how to guide. you need to sign on to your gmail account, from there select Setting, select Forwarding and POP configuration option. make sure you Enable POP gmail setting.
Any chance to configure Gmail in order to have the emails sent from your Hermes (using the Gmail SMTP) appear in the sent folder of the gmail web interface ? Would be perfect...
Reply to the last post about Gmail.
No, when you send from gmail then it will always make the email appear like it was sent from Gmail, I have not found a workaround. So I called my internet provder at home here and I am allowed to send from my Japan internet provider from my Keitai. So that was cool, but the best workaround that I can say to do would be to have Gmail forward all the email back to your email address that is on your keitai (hermes).

It is also worth mentioning that it I can browse to the OWA web page from the handset.

Hi I have the hero in front of me now and I can assure you the option I am trying to use is 'Activesync'. I think HTC have licensed it for the hero...
i don't think they have, i think it's just some bastardised thing they've knocked up themselves, but i could be wrong.
one thing to check though is because the hero does not support all the security policies that windows mobile does, some exchange servers simply won't let it connect.
If the exchange server forces a password on the device, you're S.O.L it seems. or at least, i can't get them working with password enforcing servers....

Its my own exchange server and it does not enforce passwords. Also I can switch back to any WM device and all syncs fine.
Has anyone actually got it working with exchange 2003? I have a feeling it may be 2007 only...
ok cracked it. It wont allow you to sync with a user name that has a space in it. Ie. 'FirstName Lastname' will not work. I have had to change my user name now to be 'FirstNameLastNAME' hope that helps somebody!!

Have the same problem as you, before i read youre findings...but:
When i try to pull the trick you mention, the phone now tries to connect to the server, but after verifiing account information... it halts at "Authentication failed. Please verify user/pass bla bla"
You are not saying that my AD credentials on my PC also has to be FirstNameLastNAME?
/Psudo
yes, i believe he is.
You actually have to change your username, not just not remove the space on the device.
From how i understand EAS to work, you would indeed have to change your username in AD as well (but check first, i'm far from an Exchange admin!)
What I did was change my username in the Active Directory. You will also need to change your username on anything that accesses the server (Outlook RPC, laptops pc's etc.)
Hope that helps.

[Q] Activesync with Hotmail - cannot leave domain field blank

Hello,
This might be a silly question, but it drives me crazy! I would like to sync my HTC HD2 (1.66.479.2 WWE) with Live (Hotmail) account. I go to ActiveSync > Add Server Source > type in my mail + Next > Type in my user, password and... domain. All instructions say that domain should be left blank, but HD2 does not allow me to leave it blank! If it's empty then next button is disabled and I cannot go further.
Is there any remedy for this?
Regards
You can only leave the domain blank if your username already contains it. For example, on google, you should specify the username as "[email protected]", not just "user". Hope this helps.

Nope, does not work. As an address I put there "[email protected]" and still the domain field is required to proceed.
I would say just put "hotmail.com" in the domain and thats it, although it actually does sound strange.
Does not help either :/
Got it!
In the second screen you must type the user with @hotmail. I think you mentioned that, but I didn't get your point.
That's exactly what i've mentioned on my very first post in this thread, lol.

[Q] STOCK email client - hotmail - Error 301

Somehow my hotmail account stopped working on stock email client. I removed the account from the client and then attempted to login again. It shows following message on numerous attempts: "The attempt to sign in failed due to an invalid User name, Password, or incorrect settings. Please check your username, password and settings on the web, and try again. (301)"
I have spent around 2 days to sort this thing out and has done googling to find any solution, Appreciate the help.
I don't have a solution for your email client, but there is an official Hotmail app. It works very well on my S2 and it has address book integration as well. Perhaps you could give it a try.

Hi dear, Thanks for advice. I did downloaded and tried on the app as suggested. Again I have following message:
"the attempt to sign in failed due to an invalid email address and/or password. please check your email address and password and try again (300)"
I pinch myself to make sure I am typing everything right. However on browser it works alright. Any suggestion
How complex is your password? Any chance you can try changing your hotmail password to something simpler temporarily as a test to see if it is indeed a password issue?

Somehow a changed password did the trick.
I have the same issue, can you give me some info about your old ( ) password? For example, how long was it? Did it have any special non-numerical char in it? Cheers

Old password was 13 letters long mix of upper and lower case letters with some numbers. no non-numerical char.
At the risk of sounding like a stalker, how does the new one differ?
Mostly, is it shorter? Did the old one start with a number and the new one doesnt?
Mine is 20 chars long, has 2 "symbols", some numbers and it starts with a number. I'd really really like to find out where they cocked up with this

That (Bold) was the reason in my case.
Just a piece of information that hotmail does not take more than 16 letters/numbers/symbols etc as password.

Why is there this limit when authenticating from a mobile application, whichever that might be (the official app, the samsung email app, etc)?
I am afraid hotmail officials are the right people to tell you.

Help Setting Up Exchange on Note

I need some help setting up exchange on the note. The IT guys are clueless here. I been trying for hour, with all different names. Help if you can..
This is what I have typed in...
Domain/user name: state.pa.us\[email protected]
Password:
Exchance Server: webmail.state.pa.us
x Use Secure Connection
I just get an error.
You can use this to troubleshooting the issue
https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/
It is possible the username will be the SAM name which is 20 characters and instead of the @ it uses the _
Your SAM name would be
c-anarnold_state.pa.u

invalid username or password. I know it's correct because it works with OWA.
Try doing it without the domain. Most of the time you don't actually need it.
EDIT - Any by that I mean just use - [email protected] for domain/username and get rid of the "domain/"

Are you setting it up while on WiFi by any chance. Reason I ask is I couldnt do it once while on Comcast Wfi at home but went to Att Network and it set up fine.
Also gave me incorrect user/password at the time.
You might consider this a painful option, but there have been times on various Samsung devices I had to do a factory reset/full wipe, and then seemingly automagically, the Exchange setup would then work.
Samsung's implementation of Exchange leaves a lot to be desired. I never was able to get Exchange email working on an original Galaxy Tab.

The domain is the internal Active Directory domain, or if it is a hotmail or windows live account, there's no domain, but you still have to use the backslash.
so my email address is [email protected] but the internal active directory domain name is xyz.com, then your user name is:
xyz\abc
and your password is your password
if it is a hotmail account (which in your case is not but this is just for informational puposes) then your user name would have to be entered as:
\abc
the use of ssl depends on the configuration of the exchange serve, but that is something that your exchange administrator will have to tell you.
also, when you setup an exchange account, the domain name for authentication is not the same as the server name. in the case above, the server name can be mail.cde.com, so in your case, you have to find out what is the external server name from your exchange administrator...
i hope this helps.

Have you tried using www instead of webmail for the Exchange server?
If it's still not working it could be they have security requirements that aren't supported by TouchWiz's Exchange client. It's pretty rare these days, but it wasn't so rare a couple of years ago with Android's half-baked support for Exchange.
You might try the free trial of Moxier or Touchdown and see if you can get it to work through one of those. Both of them are available on the Android Market. I know it sucks to have to use a third party.
You might need to have activesync enabled in your exchange server.

Maybe you need to change the password for your account at your workstation then try with the new password on your phone. I know for me, our accounts require that a new password be set up every month or so and it asks for it automatically at certain time intervals. This corrected my Exchange issues before.
