English Cingular 8525 ROM update (AKU2.6): v1.31 radio 1.13 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Here is another new ROM from the still unreleased Cingular 8525: HTC Hermes (HERM100) branded from U.S. Operator Cingular.
ROM Version: 1.31.502.1
ROM Date: 08/30/06
Radio: 1.13.00.00
Protocol: 32.49.7018.00H
OS build: 14989.2.6.0 (AKU 2.6)
As always, download link on the wiki upgrading page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
If you have questions be sure to read the Hermes wiki first, specially the Upgrading FAQs.
Notes on this ROM:
* See the thread on the previous Cingular ROM (v1.30) for upgrading issues, such as enabling video calls, band selection tab, MMS, ExtROM customizations, etc...
Enjoy
WARNING: This ROM has bootloader version 1.06 where only RUU updates specifying the same CID as your device has will be permitted to run. You will need to DOWNGRADE to a ROM matching your CID with bootloader 1.04 to be able to bypass the vendorID check again.
UPDATE: New ROM v1.34

I think you're releasing this one just to terrorize everyone that has just jumped through hoops over the past few days with the last ROM...

Firstly, Thank you.
Second. Is a hard reset necessary if you're already on the cingular rom?

yes... you have to flash it again, so it will be in default settings as after a hard reset.

the OS version is incorrect on the wiki! on wiki, it shows OS version 14955.2.3.0, i just flashed to the latest cingular RON, it showing OS version 14989.2.6.0

ooopps... copy paste problems
Thanks for the correction, and yes, this is an AKU 2.6 ROM

sorry for jumping the gun. i already fixed it on wiki. os version and protocol version been updated..

aku 2.6 .... damn!
... so many roms... so little time...

My imagination or are contact ringtones missing from this build? Were present in the i-mate ROM. Pof didn't give me enough time to check out the 1st Cingular ROM ;-)
Cheers

I'm going for this one I think. If HTC releases their TyTN specific ROM update tomorrow, you'll have me and the deity Murphy to thank.....
edits as the upgrade progresses:
08:21 AM CDT
Upgrade start time. First impression... boy is this ever slow. I guess they're not kidding when they say "Remember, the operation will take about 25 minutes". This is significantly slower than my 8125 flash process was.
08:30 AM CDT
22% complete. Let's see, a little math shows a 45 minute flash time if the same rate progresses. I've turned off my screen saver and am closing all unused apps on my desktop. Fortunately, the battery on my TyTN was fully charged before I started...
08:35 AM CDT
25% complete. 25 minutes is looking more like an hour at this rate...
08:42 AM CDT
Flash rate just jumped up I'm now at 61% complete.... Patience is the buzzword to remember when flashing TyTNs it would seem.
08:44AM CDT
Flash complete. 23 minutes elapsed time. The warning is correct! I just heard the Initial setup chime on my TyTN
Now its off to extrom customization. I've pre-loaded the most current TyTN Extrom on my sd card so I'll be cancelling out of Cingular's default startup and loading this instead...
08:47AM CDT
Nice little Cingular splash screen with a flaming 3G ball of fire on it...

anyone using this rom yet? What do you think

As Pof points out at the beginning of this thread, the AKU2.6 version of the Cingular ROM inherits the same troublesome limitatations as this one AKU2.3:
* Extended-ROM is locked from writing. You can read, but not write;
* Video camera must be added 'manually' using alternative extended ROM (e.g., HTC 1.06)
* Button 5 (press and hold) functions have been locked to PTT (push-to-talk is not working in this ROM version)
There are no existing work-arounds to:
- unlocking the extended ROM, so you have 10mb less program storage space with this ROM;
- map button five (PTT is hard-coded).
Following pof's earlier post instructing how to manually install the HTC ROM, you will end up with the HTC "Green" dialer and CommManager.
CommManager can be replaced with the blue one (search threads for download). Dialer can be replaced with several different dialers (see wiki).
Cheers

In other HTC devices the upgrade image was decrypted by the upgrade software and sent unencrypted to the device. With the Hermes, HTC has changed this and the upgrade image is sent encrypted to the device. Now the Hermes has to take the encrypted data sent by the upgrade utility and decrypt it before actually flashing it. That's why it takes more time.

Dude .. I think austin_boy is referring to the Cingular ROM .. and looks like he's a Cingular developer... look at the release notes

Since I upgraded to this ROM I am unable to flash to another rom anymore. Each time it says me that my vender ID doesnt match. As I was used to, I relaunched the ROMUpgradeUt.exe but the problem still remain.
I tried many roms before this one without trouble...

New ROM for TyTn in South Africa

Hey all, Leaf Wireless, the new agents for HTC in South Africa seem to be on the ball. They have just posted the second ROM update in 3 weeks.
This one fixes a few issues including a voice message notification that was not on the older version.
Pof I can't get onto the ftp site at present. The username gets rejected. Have the last details you gave me changed?
Rom Version: 1.35.255.2
Rom date: 11/14/06
Radio version: 1.18.00.10
Protocol version: 32.55.7018.01H
Ext. rom version: 1.35.255.102
Enjoy!
Since this posting HTC Europe have announced a new ROM for HTC TyTN devices for release at the end of Jan 2007.(See my post elswhere). So before you go updating your ROM's with the ones presently available-hang on for a couple of weeks. I believe from my sources that this one is worth waiting for.
This news I got directly from HTC Europe and was confirmed by our local distributor. (who is pro-active!)
HTC claim it will resolve " all known issues"

basilrsa, the ftp details are the same:
server: ftp.xda-developers.com
username: xdaupload
password: xda
folder /Hermes/Shipped_Complete_Updates/
Full address: ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Hermes/Shipped_Complete_Updates/
Thanks Pof . Will upload in the next few minutes
File uploaded to ............complete updates
Many thanks basilrsa, the upload finished and I moved the file to safe place:
ftp://xda:[email protected][1].35.255.2_1.35.255.102_1.08.00.10_SHIP.EXE
I will add the details on the wiki after a while....
Thank you!!
Looks like the South African HTC distributors lead the way in updates for the TyTN.
Maybe you can advise what's changed on this latest ROM update. - The voicemail notification is great - no more missed voicemails.
I had no problems in flashing the ROM and I am a novice!
Good luck.
Basil
Leaf Wireless South Africa rocks!
I am having a look at it now, but I'm at work and have not much time, at first try I saw that bootloader version has changed to 1.09 and Build date for this bootloader is "Nov 7 2006 22:59:17".
Will post details when I have more time to look into it.
Thanks Pof. I will be interested to find out what updates have been included. Nice to know that you work for a living!
Ha Ha
Great news!
Hopefully bootloader 1.09 won't mess up Super CID, from pofs great unlocker ... keep up the good work!!
excellent
hopefully its AKU3.2......
patience is running thin
I have just installed this twice with my super cid from Pof, and it keeped the super cid status.
sweet,
is the AKU still 2.3? or is it 3.X ?
Its still 2.3, so we still have to wait for 3.2
Any initial feedback on the performance of this ROM compared to others?
I'm thinking it might finally be time to bite the bullet (getting tired of waiting for an officially released TyTN ROM) and upgrade...
can anyone, who update this rom, tell me,if we can bootloader downgrade to 1.04?
Hi
If I install this rom in my
softbank X01HT this will turn the SID lock again ?
If yes.
I can still downgrade the bootloader to 1.04 with
'Extracted 1.04 bootloader-only upgrade' and then use the 'HERM_UNLOCK v2a.exe' again
Thanks
Adriano
It seems that once bootloader 1.09 is installed it is impossible to downgrade it even with the firmware with the same CID as a device and lower version numbers. The radio stack and the rest downgrades fine, but bootloader stays 1.09. Damn... Should have followed the unlock procedure while had 1.04.
this mean that if I install tjis rom and my phone don't work with Softbank Sim I can't reinstall other type of rom again?
correct?

Yes that would appear to be the wise thing to do! Unlock the phone and set permanent SuperCID with Pof's v2.0a unlocker, then try this rom. The phone should stay unlocked and superCID will stick.

You can reinstall other types of ROM with the CID matching yours, but even if you do your SPL won't be downgraded. I just confirmed it by reflashing two slightly different WWE ROMs - Bootloader stays SPL 1.09 no matter what you do!!!
UPDATE: Upgrading to bootloader 1.09 also means that Radio-only ROM upgrade is also out of the question.

Shipped & Extracted Radio ROM 1.27.00.00

Thanks to the person who uploaded the Shipped radio to XDA-Dev ftp
Radio version 1.27.00.00 is available for the Hermes!
This radio has HTC_BOOT 0107, so it is "safe" to upgrade. We have it in two flavours:
Shipped upgrade (signed NBH file) containing only the radio, valid for:
HERM300 T-Mobile devices with CID starting with "T-MOB1"
SuperCID devices
NOTE: SuperCID (unlocked) devices with HTC_BOOT 0108 (for example SoftBank X01HT post Dec-2nd) must use bootloader SPL-1.09 to flash this radio!
Download: RUU_Hermes_TMD-TMA_Radiopatch_1.27.00.00_107_GER.exe
Extracted upgrade (NBF file) valid for:
Hermes devices with bootloader 1.04 and HTC_BOOT (radio bootloader) version 0107.
Remember:
- screen will show "Upgrade Radio Stack Please wait........."
- after finishing flashing radio (about 15 min) you will see an "Upgrade Error", but the radio ROM will be flashed anyway.
Download:
HERM_1.27.00.00_type2_radio.zip
For more information see the extracted radio wiki page and information about radio ROMs.
As always, upgrade at your own risk!
Enjoy!
waho!! i feel that a new os rom is near!
tanx pof! the Radio on Hermes is now 1.27
Any ideas on what has changed from the Cingular shipped rom?
Legolas
Upgraded. Now to see what is different.
Upgraded and testing now.
Thanks!
Thanks POF. This has improved my reception a bit. Gonna test this in other sports that I had spotty reception and see if this makes it better.
Testing on the new Radio ROM...
Does anyone knows if the Wi-Fi is related somehow to the Radio ROM? My old wizard somehow has a better reception.
I understand this version does not contains the GPS support.
Currently I will wait with that.

I don't believe in official support.
Trinity users also don't get GPS from their providers but can happily use the GPS.

The probles is this, posted by myself in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291297:
- But THE PROBLEM is that the data calls are broken in this ROM. I used direct Modem connection with my work (we got two 56k Modem waiting for incoming calls). It connects without apparently problems with the modem (maybe it takes more time than the older ROM) but the data interchange is very sloooooooow and suddenly it stops! The data call isn't dropped but it doesn't interchange data after two or three minutes of slooooooow interchange. Finally, if you close the call and tries to reconnect it can't!!!! WM5 says that an unknown error happens and can't be connected!!!!
After a soft reset you can connect again but it remains very sloooooow...
Fortunately I've switched back to the old and stable 1.20.31.10 ROM and everything works normal now (thank God!).

It's very easy to check. Seems to be a stability problem.

1.27 seems to be BETA release.

Thanks, I think this is very helpfull.
Great! Always usefull when you need to restore your device
Has anyone tested if any of these ROMs flash properly.. for me it would be the Dutchversion then... But I can not test right now can not have my phone broken down. Once Kaizer is out I am going to buy that one and then I could test, but would be nice to know if these dumped ROMs work
Unfortunately I do not know, I haven't even tested the UK version as I am not sure if it will work, however I did update the RUU.
Shame we cannot emulate the firmware install!
The T-Mob UK dumped ROM isn't quite right - the w'n'w home page doesn't work properly.
Minor thing but, one of the first things I tested
I dumped my friends ROM the other day. I'm currently working on building it and testing it - will let you know when it's done
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Hmmm...humble pie - lovely
Well, after flashing the ROM i dumped the other day, I had exactly the same thing with IE.
It took me about 3 seconds to realise it must be because the extROM had been flashed by one of the WM6 ROMs I had been using in the past.
As it turns out, this is the case so I can confirm that if you have the same issue, download the extROM dumo from the wiki (from this page) and delete the current contents of your extROM and copy the downloaded one back to it. Hard reset, and voila - everything back the way T-Mobile shipped (apart from Radio ROM, IPL\SPL etc...) but WTH ;-)

Trapper,
I assume you mean how can you put the correct Extended ROM onto your device? If I understand this correctly, the ROMs mentioned in Jygar's first post are the original main ROM but the Extended ROM is in fact from a Windows Mobile 6 ROM (I do not believe that flashing a ROM will affect the Extended ROM - the problem is that the re-flashed (downgraded) WM5 ROM is starting the Extended ROM installation after the basic OS install (as normal) but that Extended ROM is still a WM6 one.
The page that is linked to includes many Extended ROMs from many countries and devices - one of them an original T-Mobile ROM (here) and if you were to unlock/unhide and mount your Extended ROM you would be able to delete the incorrect (WM6) ones and then paste in these original Extended ROM files.
The Extended ROM files are executed during a hard reset after the OS has been installed - details of how this works are within this forum. I am not sure that you need to do a hard reset but it all depends on whether you stopped the device completing a normal (complete) install. After a hard reset the device will start to execute the Extended ROM files/.cabs and if you stop that with a soft reset as soon as it starts then the device will re-boot with a basic WM build (with no service provider fixes/updates/customisations/settings)
If this is all explaining what you already know then sorry but your question posted is rather open... Hope this helps
ExtROM.nb attached Just put it into an NBH and flash
@tony.wheeler - What was the original radio version of your Vario II? I'm in the process of creating a complete upgrade to restore UK MDA Vario II's to their 'out of the box' state with the original ROMs (IPL, SPL, MainSplash, SubSplash, OS, Radio ExtROM)
Phil
eek, think it was 1.03?
[edit]Have done a search it appears it is 1.05!
only problem is this is HTC_BOOT 0106 and most ppl are now patched to 0108 so I would have thought we cannot downgrade our radio rom.
TBH 1.43 is the best radio rom out and i cannot say a bad word against it. I have only eva updated my radio rom and since the radio update have not had a problem with the origional t-mob os.
Hehe, yeah i found out it was 1.05 as well. Oh well, I'll use 1.07 in my NBH. I now have a complete ROM backup (IPL, SPL, GSM, OS, MainSplash, SubSplash, ExtROM) to revert back to should anything ever happen which means I would need to claim on the warranty.
Phil

I keep loosing connection with the 1.50 that came with the WM6 test ROM, and also falling down to GSM even though I'm in a good 3G reception area.
Didn't seem to notice these problems before. I was running Radio 1.48 onto of the old radio.

Ok here I come to save the day... The reason you are getting that error message is because you have a locked G4. From what you have said already, It sounds like you have T-Mobile and unfortunately, due to DOC right protection on all of our devices, you need to perform some kind of unlock on your device or work around it. I believe that G4 CID unlocking has been almost perfected but I can tell you 2 other ways to flash your device.
On the grander scale, here are all 3 known ways to flash your G4 device.
First and formost, shelltools is a very common and most heavily used way to flash a G4 device. It extracts the OS from the Rom and then flashes it to your device and afterwards, you need to hard reset your device and what do you know, you have WM6.
The second way to flash a Rom to a G4 device is to use SoftSPL. SoftSPL temporarily patches the CID on your device to think it is CID unlocked and allows you to flash a new Rom to the device as if it were in fact permanently unlocked but this is only a one time go. Each time you want to change Roms, you have to flash back to your carriers official Rom and then run SoftSPL again with the new Rom of your choice.
Third and finally, I mentioned above that they have managed to permanently CID unlock G4 devices but I am not sure if they managed to perfect it yet. I also have not tried this method before because I had to have a handset exchange and ended up with a G3.
Don't take this personally, but you really need to do alot of reading before you dive into the world of Rom flashers because from the sounds of what you wrote above, you don't know enough about flashing Roms yet and that makes it really hard. Trust me, I was in your shoes before.
Just hang out in the G4 forum for a while and read as much as you can and when you feel comfortable with what you are about to do, then give it a try. I really don't want to see you screw up your phone and brick it, but I do want to see you succeed in the Rom flashing world so for your own sake, read up. Here are just a few threads that you really should check out before trying to so something you're not sure about.
[solution] G4 SoftSPL Flash any ROM to CID locked G4 [UPDATED]
Solutuion found: how to flash any rom to CIDLOCKED DEVICE
Hard-SPL - or how to CID unlock your device

how to upgrade my HTC TYTN (Hermes)

i know this is probably somewhere and il get told off for asking this but i have searched and searched for the past 3 days now and just got a load of confusing stuff about Olipro Hard SPL 2.10 (which i have now worked out to be a boot loader..... i think....) but most the links i found go to a nonworking wiki page..... can some one give me a simple how to guide??? I am completely new to WM and flashing these devices so i have no idea what i am doing.....
thankyou for any help you can give me
edit: the main thing a actualy need is to use my 8GB microSD card... if there is a simple update i can put with WM5 then that would be perfect!!!!
edit 2: im running on Windows Mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack OS 5.1.461 (Build 15671.3.3.0) i think there is a more recent version of this but its not on the htc website..... and i cant find anything anywhere....
Hi,
I am also new to this forum and to using Winmo but to flash your rom to one of the cooked roms available on this site you just need to connect your Hermes to your pc and make sure that active sync is connected up. Make a backup of your data such as contacts, messages, etc. Then you need to run Olipro Hard SPL 2.10 as that will prevent a bad install from turning your Hermes into a brick. Find more info about that and download Hard-SPL-V7.zip at the bottom of the first post on following page.

Once you have finished running Hard-SPL you can then run one of the Roms here. I am using Shamanix`s WM6 Ultimate v2 FINAL at the moment which is really nice.

But there are loads of other really cool cooked roms which I will try out sometime. Next one I will try is CRCs Release 13.5 - Stable which looks very cool too.

Hope that helps some. Cheers, t_t

How is it going to relate to unlocking? I have a cingular 8525 which I unlocked after a few days of struggle.
Will it be unlocked after the update or I have to unlock it again?
