SPV C550 to Qtek 8200 ROM - HTC Hurricane

Ok, so I tryed to run this Qtek ROM update program which is Russian, so I could turn my Orange SPV C550 into a non-branded device.
At first everything was going well, then I got to this nice screen telling me the software wasn't suited for my phone. The phone got stuck in the three color screen, but when I disconnected the battery and put it back in, and turned the phone on again, fortunately it still was functioning...
But now the big question, how can I get rid of everything Orange put on the phone? And end up with a nice non-branded phone?
Are there more steps needed to loose everything on the phone (don't really care about a back-up)? Is there any way to do this at all?

Change O2 UK XDA2 ROM to M1000 Dutch Orange ROM fails at 99%

Having found the excellent walk-through post on how to amend the nbf files so that the correct country code is set, allowing you to change ROMs to a none country ROM, I set about to try it.
And in fact, changing the files, and re-packing them, was not too bad.
Then I ran the upgrade program for the M1000 Orange Dutch (but WWE version) ROM, on my UK O2 XDA2.
And lo and behold, it no longer failed the country check, and proceeded to upgrade!
It managed to erase the current ROM no problem...
Then it started to install the new ROM...
And it got right up to a lovely 99%, and then hung for a while, before the installer program coming back with an Upgrade Failed error, and telling me to soft re-boot and try again.
Soft re-booting brought up the O2 'water' boot image, but with the ROM details etc re-written for the new verison 1.66 instead of 1.60 - but no backlight would come on, and it wouldn't get any further than this.
I had to go into Bootloader mode, to get it to try again.
And after three attempts, it ALWAYS fails at 99% of the ROM install.
So, does anyone have any ideas?
In the meantime, I am back to my O2 ROM, but I was led to beleive, from the tutorial, that ANY ROM could be used, as long as they were meant for a Himalaya device.
So, why does the Orange M1000 Dutch WWE 1.66 ROM, always fail at 99% when run on a UK O2 XDA2 1.60 WWE?
Anyone?
i think that other have don it without failure
could it be the file you downloaded which is a bit corrupt ?
try downloading it again
Sorry for the offtopic question but where did ya get the Orange Dutch rom?
I really would like to get that one...
Cheers
Panja
maybe dutch == danish
both starts with d and ends with h could be a mistake
from what i know the danish orange rom is the only one out yet but of cause i could be wrong
That would be the answer yes...
I am Dutch and check Orange once and a while and for as far as I know the m1000 isn't even released in Holland...
I just rang Orange because I can't get GPRS to work and I told them I have a XDA II, same as the m1000. But they couldn't help me because they don't have any settings for the m1000 yet...
Pretty g*y they couldn't help me
well what you need is really only access point
and depending on orange login and pass
Oops.
I meant Danish.
Second time I have done that this week.
Copenhaagen and Eindhoven - it's becuase they are so close together maybe *lol* ;-)
Rudegar, any ideas who the users were that got it to work, so I can ask them for the patched ROM files and try that?

I got it to work!
Just download the update from the Danish Orange site.

I do what exactly?
If left as is, it won't work, as it fails the country check (er remember, it's a UK O2 XDA2 I'm trying to install it on here).
On the other hand, if I use xdatools to alter the nbf file, it allows me to run the install, but constantly fails the process at 99% of the first ROM install...
So, any ideas?
What device did you install it on?
i think he followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8205
That's the very one I refer to earlier, that taught me how to change the country info.
The install fails on 99% though.
So Panja, have you got your extracted files to share if you put it on an XDA2 O2 as well?
Well I've downloaded the ROM upgrade again, and worked through the tutorial steps to change the device settings.
Can I just check something...
I currently have an O2 XDA2, and I am upgrading it with an Orange ROM.
When I enter the device settings, it IS "PH10 O2" I enter as the settings, NOT PH10 Orange, as I want the device to end up as it were. I do enter the device's EXISTING settings Panja, yes?
That's what I have done anyway - entered PH10 O2, so as I speak, it is busy wiping the ROM from the device, connected to my other PC.
I'll be sure to post back here if I manage to get past the 99% new ROM install this time, with a new ROM download, and a new attempt at altering the nbf files...
Wish me luck folks.
NEVER one to tempt the hand of fate, so I will start by saying it's not finished YET...
But it passed the ROM update ok, and now is onto the Extended ROM.
Keep wishing me luck folks...
Weh hey!
Nice new Orange XDA2, if I say so myself.
It looks a bit better, the proper Windows Mobile Boot Screen, than an O2 one, especially with an Orange SIM in...
So now I've saved the amended .nbf files on my PC, so that if needs be and a re-upgrade is needed, I can just run the installer, then delete the real nbf files and replace with my altered ones.
It's just busy doing a Sprite backup restore now - quality. Thanks everyone!
I'll repost back with my experiences of reliability and speed soon if I notice anything untoward...
Oh blast...
I've noticed something straight away...
The new implementation of Cleartype is TERRIBLE.
I can see blue edging to letters all over the place as it attempts to anti-aliase the font.
Previously with the O2 ROM and Cleartype, the letters were smooth, but black throughout...
I seriously think I will either have to forego using Cleartype, or do a ROM re-upgrade back to O2 at this rate.
Thanks for nothing Orange...
After all that, going back to O2 ROM.
Cleartype as per Orange's idea of it, is terrible. Blue all over black text, yellow on the white menu text, and sore eyes all round.
DOH
So now I have to go through it all over again to change the Country Code, to get the O2 ROM back on...
Great...
Sorry I couldn't help ya in time.
I'm sick @ home and didn't check the board till now...
Nice you got it finally to work.
Cheers
Panja,
Did you find the Cleartype as per the Orange ROM, to be unreadable, and full of colour cast?
Also, now that I have gone back to the O2 ROM becuase of the terrible Cleartype with the Orange ROM, do you know if you can just do an Upgrade whereby you only install the Orange EXTENDED ROM onto the O2 current ROM?
I have both ICQ and Messenger, if this is better for you...
I didnt use the cleartype on the Orange rom.
I swapped the Orange rom for the QTek rom.
Happy with the Qtek to be honist...

M1000 problem

I got an SPV M1000 locked to orange, unlocked it and it works fine. I though I would unhide then unlock extended rom, remove all extended rom, then replace with an O2 extended rom that I had backed up on my pc. I made sure that I relocked and rehid the extended rom after this, when hard reset it does everything ok, then the screen dims as if the battery is being disconnected, simialr to a hard reset where the screen becomes dimmer and dimmer but the light stays on. Any idea why. Basically I just want it to be an O2 phone, anybody got any ideas as to the best rom and extended version to use??
From what I can remeber when I did just the opposite to you (PAYG Orange sets up so easily, but not so on O2), and the M1000 has an earlier ROM than the XDA II. There could be incomptabilities between the programs in ExtROM and the base OS.
Unfortunately this would mean that you might need to reflash the whole device. As you need to re-install everything, it is a bind doing this - especially as you need to get the operator code right as well.
Always assuming that your m1000 doesn't have another issue, you may have to bit the bullet.

Help! Touchscreen on way out. Need to go back to WM5!

Please help me. I recently upgraded to the Black satin rom and everything was fine. However the touchscreen on my M3100 has started to go haywire.
After being on for about 5 minutes the touchscreen doesn't work. It seems like the top right hand corner is faulty as the close button keeps being pressed again and again. I think it is probably the phone that is faulty rather than the ROM.
Anyway I need to revert back to the original Orange ROM (WM5) so I can send it back to orange. I've only had the phone about 3 weeks so its still under warranty.
I tried to load the ROM off the orange business website but it errors when trying to load the rom on. I assume I need to downgrade the bootloader thingy.
Any help much appreciated!

Look for "downgrade guides"
I'm in a similar boat mdavix!
I've just tried flashing an original T-Mobile WM5 ROM using MrVanx's guide but it doesn't progress beyond the bootloader page. Instead the update times-out and gives Error 260 - "Cannot connect to PDA"
Getting late (that's when Bad Mistakes Happen lol!) so will come back to it at the w/e I hope. Let us know if you have any luck!

interestingly, I put black satin on my new M3100, and the screen started going. So I put it back to the latest Orange release (from the website) 2.11.61.1, but it was still screwy. Sent it back to Orange, and got a different recodnitioned phone back. They said the ROM was the issue, and the one they gave me had 2.11.61.3 on it. This version is not available for download... has anyone else seen it?
Do orange know what is happening to the screens? Is something getting burnt out? does 2.11.61.3 have a fix?
Well... I'm too scared to put WM6 back on, now, although I really want to. I at least want to wait till I can get hold of the update for 2.11.61.3, and even then, I'm not sure.
I have looked at the downgrade guide but don't really fancy the re-compiling the nbh business.
The strange thing is that if I take the battery out for a couple of minutes, then replace and boot up, the screen works for a while!
Is it worth trying a different rom?

No, it's a hardware problem, I assure you.
Ok, thanks vp3G.
So I still need to get back to WM5.
I'll have to give mrvanx's downgrade guide a go!
Is this still current? Is this the correct one to try?
I carried out the steps in the downgrade guide and attempted to flash the resultant rom onto my M3100. It started to update got to 1% and failed with a transfer error!
Now when I turn the phone on it just comes up with the three colour screen!
Have a broke it forever? The screen reads:
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Please help!
Phew! Panic over, I've managed to get the Black Satin rom back onto my phone.
I'm stuck at the screen alignment screen again but at least its got an OS on now!
I still need to load WM5 on tho. I think I'll try re-doing the downgrade guide and see if that helps.
I'm looking at duttys nbh tool and notice that the device id is HERM200. My phone is an M3100 so a HERM100. I'm going to change the value to be HERM 100 and re-compile. Hopefully that was the problem last time!

Downgrading to Voda rom gone bad :(

Help
I've gone through the steps on http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=59&Itemid=27
to downgrade from WM6 to the official Voda wm5 release (as i need to send it back for repair, dont want them making any excuse not to do it)
but now all the phone does it do the voda spash screen, then the "windows mobile" blue splash screen and hangs there.
any ideas?
i've put the unit in to bootloader and reflashed but hasnt helped any.
also using 2.10.olipro
just to add i just tried to upgrade it back to schnaps wm6 rom and even though it worked it still says vodafone on the splash screen, so dont know think it worked.

Hello,
You should read before trying to flash your device. There is sticky post in the forum who contains a lot of important informations about Hard SPL.
About the original orange Rom i don't know where to find it.
fla242
after a lot of search, finally I got here and read this post...
I encountered the same problem, and I think my phone is 80% dead!
My phone was unlocked, but carelessly, I didn't complete the hard-SPL flash procedure and flash a new ROM directly, so it is dead...
I downloaded an original Orange ROM, but process stopped @4%, and returned "INVALID VENDER ID". Is there anyway that I can flash a new ROM?
Now my phone can enter the rainbow screen only, and it reads:
ONBL 1.08.0000
SPL 1.08.0000
Any experts here can offer a solution? Can I flash rom via SD card, and how? Really really appreciate your help.
SPV C100 was reborned!
I just can't hide the excitement when I finally flashed a ROM back to my phone.
This model is already quite old. Not sure if anyone still encounter the same problem. Anyway, I'd like to share how I did it, just in case it still helps you.
The key point is called "HTC Goldcard". It is made of a normal Mini-SD card, but it helps you to get a super-CID in tri-color mode.
Google it to find more details, and I am sure you guy can work it out yourselves. You could PM me as well, if you understand my Chinglish
