to backup the existing ROM on your Hermes is not possible. The only solution for that is if your provider has made the original ROM accessible (please check the board for available ROMs)
In most cases - my best guess - you willl void the warrenty by re-flashing it, but the terms here may be different depending on your provider

Dumped Portuguese ROM available in FTP

Dear TyTN/Hermes owners
I've just uploaded the PTG (Portuguese) ROM that came with my device.
The instructions I followed can be found in the Wiki: How to dump ROM.
Check the Wiki page for available Dumped ROM's and more information about the ROM.
You can, in alternative, download it here.
Cheers

Same thing here, I have a htc tytn with the portuguese rom (bought to TMN)! And I have some problems in my wireless connection when I connect to a wireless network that requires a certificate! ...... without the portuguese rom we are stuck.. because If anything goes wrong in the upgrade process we don't have any manner to downgrade to the original rom.. and by the way we loose the guarantee..

Shipped rom or Extended rom?

Hi dears,
which is the difference from Shipped rom and extended rom?
I'd like to buy an XDA trion from O2 and upgrade with Italian rom.
I saw there isn't available an Italian shipped rom, but there is Italian Extended rom.
Sorry, I'm new with Trion.
Best regards
Daniele

We call "Shipped roms" to full rom upgrades provided by operators or phone manufacturers, these upgrades contain the Operator logo, Radio ROM, Extended ROM, OS, etc..
Extended ROM is just a small partition on the device's filesystem, where the operator puts customization (programs as cab files, settings, skins, etc...). You can see how these customizations are installed in your device after a hard reset.

You cannot change the OS language with extended rom, you need a complete rom update to do it. And It is not possible yet as there are no complete (shipped) rom updates in italian. You'll have to wait until a italian operator or reseller releases it and someone uploads it to ftp site.
Thanks,
i have found this in Ftp/Clubimate site:
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/JASJAM_WWE_1.20.305.3_1.20.305.104_1.07.03.10_ship.zip
on this wonderfull forum.
Do you think It will be good for me?
Best regards
Daniele
This is an english rom (WWE). It will work on a trion, but will update it to english, not to italian.
You can find all the available rom upgrades (including this one) in the xda-developer's wiki:

O2 Trion and T-Mobile Vario II ->ROM upgrade to HTC TyTn

Hi all,
I'm quite new at ROM upgrading, so I apologize if any of my questions will be annoying to anyone.
I am about to buy O2 XDA Trion or T-Mobile MDA Vario II in Germany, and I plan to flash English ROM on it.
So here are the questions:
1. Will any type of ROM work on this brands of device ?
(Can I flash HTC TyTn English ROM on them. If not which ROM's can I use? Which one do you recommend?)
2. Will flashing new ROM unlock SIM ?
(If not, can you recommend me some good tool or method)
3. After upgrade to English ROM, will everything be in English ?
(Including all OS+Office apps. and keyboard layout, or do I have to set registry keys manually after?)
4. Which is the last known stable English HTC TyTn ROM (or O2 English) ?
(that it's enabling HSDPA also)
5. How to extract original ROM from device ?
(itsutils tool, or is there some better solution ?)
6. What is the benefit of Extended ROM ?
(does it exist Extended HTC TyTn ROM ?)
Already searched on forum, but still couldn't find answers to some of my questions. Anyway, I want to be sure before I do it.
I would appreciate any answers and/or advice.
Thank you all in advance.

No, it will not, but most probably your device will be Sim Unlocked.
If it is not, there is no free way of unlocking it *yet*, you can SIM Unlock it using imei-check service for 20pounds. See more info here:

Everything will be in english, but in German O2 trion you have an AZERTY keyboard (mapped to QWERTY after upgrade). If you want it to be AZERTY again you can change the layout using the keyboard registry hack found here:

Again, see this page for the latest roms:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Most of the roms come with HSDPA enabled, and if it is not, you can enable it using SetHSDPA /enable or fit4cat hermes tweaker, see more info here:

You can dump the original rom, but you cannot flash it back... most probably this will be quite unuseful for you.

Re: O2 Trion and T-Mobile Vario II ->ROM upgrade to HTC T
Thanks Pof for quick answers !
Correct me if I understood it wrong, any ROM (HTC, O2 English, I-mate etc.) should work with both brands (O2, T-Mobile) ?
How can I then fall back to original ROM (if I would need it for warranty reasons) ?
Is the Extended ROM must, or can I live without it also ?

That's right, you will get a Vendor ID when upgrading, you just need to run the upgrade utility twice without disconnecting your device. This is explained in the wiki too.

As O2 or T-Mobile has not released any rom upgrade yet, you cannot fall back to original rom. There is no known way of doing it because the typical commands to backup/restore to SD card have been removed in the Hermes bootloader. So upgrade at your own risk or don't upgrade if you pretend to return the unit

You can live without it, but generally it fixes some things (you'll not be able to do video calls without it for example). All the cabs are not needed and there are some customizations, skins, etc which are really annoying for me. What I generally do is "reset" before the ExtROM installs on first boot after hard-reset, and then manually install the cabs I want: some taken from TyTN rom, some others taken from i-mate rom and some others taken from Dopod rom.
Hope that helps!
Upgrading at your own risk ... that may be risky ... LOL
But i did it and its worth,...... still waiting for the new O2 ROM ...
I've written a wiki page with all this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeFAQ
Can I flash HTC ROM and then add O2 Extended ROM ?
Will I then have all O2 specific stuff, and O2 skins?
Did anybody already tried this combination ?
Thanks in advance...

Now O2 has released a new Rom, so if I change to i-Mate I can always change to O2-Rom
Is That correct?

The O2 released ROM is in german, if the original language of your O2 branded Hermes was german, then the above statement is correct and you can flash any rom without worries as you can always revert back to o2 in case you have to return your unit
Thank you
I have bought my Trion yesterday but it's in german, and I want in english so I found this forum which is great.
Thank you gays for the good work.
Can you provide some other forums or sites with information about Software for PDA and other stuff.
I will spend the entire week reading the forum.

t-mobile ameo from germany

hello again
can u confirm to me if i have a tmobile ameo from germany will i be able to see english languge on the menu ?
if not can i take the tmobile uk rom of the ameo and just replace it or it will not work ?
thanks
I can just answer your first question: No, only German language on a German Ameo.
As for using different ROMs, no idea.
thanks but any one can answer about the rom ?
please ?
At the moment you shouldn't be able to swap ROMs without changing the CID which AFAIK isn't currently possible. The issue is that these ROMs should have different country codes and without unlocking the CID of your phone you can't upgrade with some other vendor's ROM. Please correct me if I am wrong!
t-mobile ameo
thanks for now i hold my things
I'm not shure but try this solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302039

Could you share that with me please? (need to send mine back to t-mobile for repair and not sure if they'll do it if I have WM6 installed)

if t-mobile uk hasnt released wm6 yet, you can just enter your cell phone number at (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/phone-support/) and it will give you the original download for t-mobile. good luck

Sadly it will only allow you to download the wizard rom and not the hermes.
You can find : http://rapidshare.com/files/17338983/ruu_hermes_tmhu_1.21.116.4_1.05.02.00_wwe_ship.exe
It's for UK TMOBILE
That ROM has Hungarian language settings and would show as the locale defaults i.e. date on today screen that when a hard reset is applied. I was also looking for an original UK ROM image and found one courtesy of the forums.
Thinking on is the default locale settings for a given ROM held in the extended ROM ? The reason I ask is that I flashed with a Hungarian image and then a UK ROM image, but the Hungarian locale settings are in play when a hard-reset is applied. Given I need to return the unit for a screen fault I obviously want to restore the unit to it's original state.
Can anyone help ?
Thanks
