Updated!! Mplayer port for Windows Mobile! - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

Hi All,
This is the mplayer (famous linux media player ) port for Windows smartphone . I have tested this with Application unlocked SP5m ( WM6) . It should run on all WM5+ smartphones as well Pocket PCs .
Installation guide..
Unzip all the contents to memory card and run mplayer.exe , All files should be in same folder.
Advantage of mplayer
-- Full support of streaming
-- supports all real media formats including streaming.
-- Supports RV40, RV30, R20 , sipro , cook and atrac codecs.
-- Supports MP4 streaming over RTSP.
-- All flavors of Flash video are supported.
-- Uses coremp4 for MP4 decoding.
TODO:
-- Need to imporve GUI ( current version is just for preview)
-- WMA decoder is not supported ( Need to add windows DMO driver, any help will be great)
-- Need to fix some crashes .
Overclock your tornado to 240 MHz , this will give best result.
Download armv4 version of Mplayer this should run on all devices
Menneisyys' Mirror
Download armv5te version of Mplayer this should run on all omap850+ devices
Menneisyys' Mirror
Download iwmmxt version of Mplayer this should run on all devices which has iwmmxt optimization, not tested thought, pls share your results
Menneisyys' Mirror
I will post the device list with compatibility soon till then you have to hit and try different version on your device.
Regarding high CPU usage on streaming and missing live555 support , this is something I have to debug , will update you soon.
Finally , If you feel mplayer port is useful please donate , It will help me to make Mplayer more useful and powerful.

Brilliant!!!! Nice work, Amit!

Tell us if you are also planning a PPC port like axim x51v. Thanks

Hi amitv_17! Great work.
I am russian. When I try to open file with russian name, your plays said that can't find this file, and show me on screen abracadabra, not russian name me the file I try.
Your player don't understand russian font symbols.

Hi,
Absolutely amazing!
Are the codecs all written in software? Or do you use hardware acceleration?
I'm running it on both my Kaiser and Vox. I tried a few flash video files and a mpeg4 file. They all worked well. Unfortunately I got an error when streaming mpeg4 via rtsp. The errors are:
"Server returned 400: Bad request" and then "no stream found to handle url rtsp://192.168.1.26:7070"
With VLC player I can play this stream without problems. Any solution?
And before I forget, let me know your palpay address then I will send you a donation
Cheers

Wowz! I'll frontpage this!
BTW, what makes the port Tornado-only? The entire WinMo coummity would certainly welcome the port!

Wowz, nice to know it's indeed compatible with other models.

BTW, can I relocate this thread to Dev & Hacking so that it gets MUCH bigger exposure?

Great, it absolutely deserves exposure. This is a high potential!

what kind of rendering engine does this use? it seems to be pretty slow when playing rm on my Kaiser

Great, you support RealOne? Do you also plan to support HTTP to stream RealOne, as opposed to RTSP? RealOne's official player doesn't support HTTP tunneling, only RTSP, which means it's useless on many NAT networks.
(Sorry for not trying it myself - I'm very busy with two other articles right now.)

well, it can't initialize a video for me... Himalaya. There's a lack of a whole central part (video area) - I can see an underlying application. The voice is working, though...

well... clicking 'tools" on softbar quits program.

i am using wm06 wizard.
playback is much slower, than with tcpmp, imo.

Windows Media Player Resume-Plugin (Version 1.2.1 09/25/08)

Hello,
for everyone who is interested in: i have developed a resume-plugin for the windows media player. Just install the .cab and everytime you press pause on the MediaPlayer it will save the playlist and the position. Afte you exit the player or the device resets it will resume at the same position.
Perhaps someone find it useful in combination with audio-books.
Have fun,
greets,
Thomas
P.S: The plugin is for the MOBILE Windows Media Player, that means it is for devices with the Windows Mobile OS! (For those who come direct from google to this PDA-Forum..
UPDATE 1.1:
-now it is not necessary (written correct..? to press "pause". Every 20 sec a resume list is written.
UPDATE 1.2:
-New Config-Tool for setting the Save-Interval and an option for asking to resume on startup.
-The save-interval is the time for automatic save in Milliseconds
-please de-install the previous version before installing the new!
UPDATE 1.2.1:
-the PopUp for resuming is bound to the mediaplayer so you can use the library startoption.
You have to close the library to see the PopUp.
Have Fun!
Hi,
your cab installs the "ResumePlugin2.dll" on "\Program Files\ResumePlugin", without reg entries or Links.
how will this work?

It is a self-register com-component. On install the installer calls the self-register function of the .dll, it registers itsself as WMP Plugin and makes the reg-entries in \hklm\software\microsoft\mediaplayer\uiplugins. After that, the plugin works.
Greet,
Thomas
Really very useful plug in.
Thanks a lot for this app.

Works great on all my WM5+ test devices (PPC and SP alike), except for the HP iPAQ 210.
thank you. this is working great for me as well. it is standard on every other media player except wm...
side note: s2p has this standard and seems to use less resources then wm.
thanks again for this very handy hack. I will pass this along as well.

No it doesn't. Read my related review.
Just one word: BRILLIANT!
I'm not getting any love from this.
It did it once, but I can't repeat it.
also, has anyone tested it with the HTC Home music tab?
Ive tried launching direct from wmp shortcut also...
Can you make a configurable auto-bookmark? Every X seconds, bookmark the file. Don't need to keep history of all the autobookmarks, that would obviously grow and grow.
That way we would at least have a auto-bookmark in case we forget to hit pause or WMP crashes.

Done. But it´s not configurable...
One thing I noticed is that if I have shuffle turned on, when I reopen WMP, it will start playing another song in the list instead of picking up where it left off.
Great WMP is the mosed used app for me.
And now i can skip the Library and just get going.
It's only when you lose these sort of small extra's when you realize how important they are.
So before this get's lost.
Danke Wolfman.
Excellent work! This is perfect. Works exactly as it should on my Vox.
OK, it is now resuming the playlist (all music - shuffle), however, it doesn't resume from where it left off... It starts the same random playlist, but not in the correct place
I haven't installed this yet but am so excited I wanted to thank you immediately for developing this and making it available for free to the masses.
I use my HTC Wizard to listen to podcasts, lectures, and audio books but this has driven me crazy for 2yrs. Now, thanks to your efforts it sounds like it will be solved.

Can someone still running 2.1 try to extract the cinema plugin pack?

Archos ships these things with the entire cinema plugin pack installed.
Then they push the 2.2 update that not only cuts CPU speed, but also removes the plugin pack.
Now they want $15 to restore the A/V functionality with which the unit shipped.
Yeah, we can use z4root to take back the processor speed, but I haven't seen anything we can do to take back the A/V functionality.
The way I see it, this can't be viewed as piracy. The units shipped with these codecs. If someone can liberate them from the original ROM, we're simply reinstalling software that was licensed to us from the beginning.
I was just hitting the update on my second 70. What would work to extract? Like an astro app backup?
Terminal
I typically use the terminal emulator. All you have to do is run z4root, then open terminal emulator.
type
Code:
su
(enter)
yes to root access
then copy the apk to either the internal memory or your sd card.
you can find your apps located in /data/app or /system/app or /system
so do something like this:
Code:
cd /data/app
ls *media*
(once you find the name remember it, lets say that it is com.mediacodecs)
cp ./com.mediacodecs.apk /mnt/sdcard (or /mnt/data for internal)
then use either dropbox to copy the apk to dropbox or hook it up to a computer to copy the apk off
Unfortunately, I don't think it's an APK.
I'm pretty sure it comes in Archos' proprietary AOS format, but I've got no idea what happens with it after it gets installed.
The only aos I can see is my froyo update.
The apk itself is 584K and from 9/14.
I think its not a apk, the media pack update pack is very small, it only unlocks some features in the player, the codecs are still installed.
I've played all kinds of Xvid and x264 MKV files in both 2.1 and 2.2. And the only thing it ever prompted me to buy the plugin for was for AC3 audio. And it did that in 2.1 too.
I think theres a lot of misconceptions about the AC3 playback problem - my A70 is still able to playback video with AC3 and I'm on 2.2. Everything it would play on 2.1 still plays on 2.2, however some mkv files are requesting the AC3 plugin - but as I didn't try to play these prior to upgrading and don't know if the same would have happened under 2.1. All in all its a bonus that it still plays any AC3 as it was always stated that a plugin was required, and in fact has always been req'd on archos devices . Vplayer seems to cope with mpeg2 and AC3 anyway.
I bought the plugin for 2.2 since none of my h.264 AC3 mkv's would play after the update. The same files worked on the OOB 2.1 firmware. Also, I really prefer the Archos Video app since it's performance is far better than anything else I've tried (probably because it's made to take full advantage of their hardware).
It's correct that the "plugin" that you download is only a small file (840B) that unlocks the feature already present on the device. And the unlock file is hardcoded to your serial# so it won't work on another...
so how about pulling the music and video apks and have them work on my evo?

does the evo have the same CPU and DSP? Archos' forte is in their hardware video optimisations - would a 3rd party manage to be as successful as archos?
... Besides, Archos' software is integrated into the ROM and is probably encrypted (i'm guessing) and so i'm sure that it would not be as simple as pulling a few APK's.
I say YES to enabling AC3 or the plugins but NO to ripping off archos by stealing their USP and distributing it across the shop...

I tried it. When I get to the installation part it fails, but if you want to try it here is the apk: http://db.tt/ZW91bMI
Here is the apk for the file manager too: http://db.tt/aimR68r
Unless it's the same architecture as the Gen8 it's useless to try. The reason the player works so well is because it's optimized to take advantage of the Gen8's hardware. Putting on a different architecture would basically take away all it's advantages even if it did install and run.

I think that both are illegal... I was just expressing my own dubious moral limits - I wouldn't mind stealing an AC3 codec (which should be included anyway grrr) but Archos' media software is their bread and butter - taking that would be damaging a company that's still small enough to be considered an underdog. Archos seem to be genuinely trying in my book and that is pretty rare so I would prefer that they had the best chances to see it through.
If archos were to sell their media software seperately i think they would lose a lot of their competitive advantage. Their software would be more easily copied for instance and their own players devalued. An example of a potential decline in this aspect could be sega's loss of their hard ware business.
sorry for the OT
Hi there, i own an Archos 70IT for two weeks and kept it still running on version 1.0.73. I'm planning to upgrade the device witin the next few days, but if i can do any favour to the community according to the 2.1 software-release, please let me know.

Cinema Plug-In in general and - worth it?

Hi,
recently I wanted to stream content from my PC and my archos asked for the cinema plug-in.
Actualy several question came into my mind as I thought about bying it:
1.) What exactly is it? Just some codecs - so the archos default videoplayer can play MPEG2,..?
2.) As I don't use the stock ROM - will it work on custom rom's too (UrukDroid)? Dont't think Crayogen will work as it doesn't has the archos player app - am I right?
3.) Wouldnt it be more easy to use another videoplayer instead (-> different ROM usage possible, cheaper then 15€ propably,...) ? Can u give me an advice wich app is worth it if so?
4.) What about hardware decoding then?
5.) What about UPNP capability of other players? Already had UPnPlay - but seems to be qute slow atm.
6.) Oh and one last question abut the Plug-in: I read its enabled in several stock Rom verion atm - did they disable in latest 81 again or is it still enabled?
Well - hope i find some help.

1) Actually we all have the codecs, the plugin just watermarks the device so the codecs are "free" so we can use it.
2) I dont know if its gona work on Urukdroid, i think no because urukdroid have its own partition..
3) The other video players arent so good as the archos video player because the most of them doht have 4)&5)
6) The cinema plugin is disabled on firmware 2.3.26
Tip:
I have the openAOS boot menu with Urukdroid as normal os and the archos android 2.3.26 for watching movies from my hdd
(You can find instructions in my thread at general section)
I know that since the 4th to last firmware it is free for everyone, don't know if it's been blocked again in the last version but it still works in urukdroid, that I can say for shure

The cinema plugin was "disabled" on firmware 2.3.20 and 2.3.26
In the newest 2.3.81 you need the plugin.. so on 2.3.20 and 2.3.26 it was a failure from archos
I bought the plug-in.
I tried first to install the plug-in on urukdroid but got an error.
Also after 3 times. Then I switch to Android directly the plug-in installed successfully. Back to urukdroid and tried once, but still the error. Then I checked the plug-in status in the settings and saw that the cinema plug-in was installed. Tried to play a video with ac3 audio and was working.
I ordered the plug-in on pluginsky.us for 15$.
I received the key after one business day.

Hey guys - thanks for all your help...
So I think i stay with the version of Lenn for now and perhaps buy it one day if we get a propper upgrade to at least Gingerbread.
Lenn can u provide a link to their servers containing FW .36? can find it anymore and I sadly overwrote my file on my HD with the .81 FW

EDIT:
Damn - another problem showed up - dunno if it happens for any of u - but the default video player f***s up my sound somehow.
The whole sound sounds strange and blurry unless ich change balance completely to one side - then it sounding "hearable" but still not right (btw the balance deosn't chance the balance actualy for me)
What i tested for now is:
Uruk 1.0 with default Video player: sound crappy
Uruk 1.0 with RockPlayer: sound crappy
FW .81 with default Video player: sound crappy
FW .81 with RockPlayer: sound fine
Well as this is not topic regarded anymore we better close this thread and i open a new one:

Well personally I think its lame that Archos does that ****.i
With that Cinema Plug-In...
I just convert my video's with Hamster Free Video Converter it has a special feature for the Archos 10i but it works fine with Archos 70it.
Just Google it But here is the link to the site I have scanned the files : OK .
Well here is the link : http://videoconverter.hamstersoft.com/en/
If you have the money buy it if you want to save up and buy a case use the Converter...
(Hit thanks if helped )
I bought the Cinema plugin because some 40% of my movies were AC3-encoded. Didn't feel like paying $15 for it, but in the end I bought it from archos.com.
Then I installed UrukDroid 1.5 and saw that the plugin was recognized. It would have been pretty sucky for it not to work in UrukDroid.
so here is my sick question
if it works: buying and then use UrukDroid; shouldn't it be also work then to inst v2.3.20 or 2.3.26 of stock FW and run any UrukDroid?
EDIT:
will try just download the FW:
http://update.archos.com/8/gen8/gen8_2.3.26/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
2nd EDIT:
k - seems i have to downgrade for - let see if this:
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...8-device-28-32-43-70-101-2-0-71-2-0-54-a.html
works.
3rd EDIT:
downgrade work - plugin of .3.26 sadly not - even its telling registered (perhaps this is also the freeplugins)

[Q] Official CCNA courses on Prime

was anyone able to figure it out how the official CCNA courses (installed on Windows) can be run on android?
highly appreciate it.

:crying: Tanks a lot.
I'm assuming that these courses aren't interactive; they're just a series of videos, right? Just transcode them into a format that Mobo Player or countless other video players will play.
There must be video files in one of the directories. I would suggest directly opening the video files than opening the index page or main app via browser. For video player, use MX Player.
It would be nice if this could work.
I will ask some application developers in my class some information
If i got some information i will come back on this matter.
It does work on Backtrack and CentOS, theoretically it also should work on android
Sorry for my bad English.

I managed to root the device. But running droidmote is still an issue. I got the server up and running, but when using the client it just doent give a response. When starting the server using the huge button it sometimes doesnt run. Just when using the button several times it goes to status started.
Im using server 3.0.7 and client 3.4.4.

you have uinput. you must only use the last version of the server and the last version of the client otherwise not work.
last server version at this date and time is 3.1.3
last version client at this date and time is 3.4.4
the protocol between the server and the client is changed for that reason you need the last versions.
If you buyed the server why not update ? only if you not buyed you can't update
Hi Zulu99,
Yes it works now, i updated to the latest version.
Which "mediacenter" application do you recommend with this device? I installed XBMC but its terrible slow. I also tried a combination of XBMC nightly build with MXplayer. Playing the videos works fine now. But i think the interface of the Nightly build isnt that great. I prefer the interface of the official XBMC.
I also buyed the full version of Archos player. This player plays everything fine, but the problem with Archos is that it keeps scanning my whole HDD for new media, and i just want to select an folder which should be scanned. Any idea how to fix this?
Or do you know a better solution?
Thx
The best solution would be using the android standard video player in combination with XBMC. Till now the only player which displayed Avatar SBS 3d flawless was the standard android player. All other players like, MOBO, BS player, MX player lagged alot.
Does anybody know how to disable the bottom banner of mx player during full screen. I read something about Gesture applications, but this is more for touch devices and this isnt the case for me.
I use XBMC with MX Player.
I love MX Player for another reason. In combination with DreamDroid, i receive the tv streaming from my satellite decoder DreamBox.
I see all tv channels in any room on my Tablet or on Minix Neo G4 attached via hdmi to any tv. and control it with DroidMote.
I like the zoom-in functions for the video in MX Player and is full compatible and controllable with DroidMote.
look this video, especially the last part:

You can try flashing Finless ROM , it works great for me . It`s a rooted version , stock Android Icons and a lot of useful apps preinstaled .
