Me too had one about 5 years ago - not the best for serious typing!

Aren't they like a pain in the arse to work, and what if the laser breaks o.0

I think the main idea for a bluetooth keyboard is to be able to type rapidly without constantly looking at your fingers. That's why physical keyboards are still so popular cause they give much better feedback and "feel"

I had one of these about 4 years ago. Bought it on eBay for £80 when drunk as a bit of an impulse purchase.
Used it with my main PC for a while (VERY clutter free desk like that!) and on my old phone, worked almost flawlessly the whole time. Only problem I had once I got used to it was that you have to press a bit further towards the unit than the image suggests (towards the "top" of the "key") Got up to a typing speed that was very comparable to normal keyboard actually, partly due to my typing method being a hybrid of touch typing, muscle memory and scanning vision of the key surface!
In the end, decided I couldn't justify the purchase cost and sold it on...for £90
I'm amazed that they're still on sale for £199 even this long down the line!

I bought one recently. Yes, its nice looking, and gives you the ooo's and aaa's from the stunned crowd.
Practically its of less use as i cant change the keyboard layout to german. They advertise they can, but in fact its only possible on WM2003

mm
Yes they are fab !.. my friend had one ... with in a few weeks at work he had blisters on his fingers ( he had it projected on our desks ..wood ) fab idea.. fab looks... fab for a quick type... thats it..
there are loads of fold away keyboards and once of rubber mats etc,,

That really puzzles me why MS and or HTC already have made a GUI based on flash or similar? It's a good standard.
This could actually be really promising.
Looks COOL, thanks!
Woo hoo..that looks awesome..hope I get chosen to become a beta tester.
I submitted an application as well.
Co-Worker showed this today. I must be behind as many folks probably are aware this is out.

looks nice
but fiddy bucks when it will be eventually made for free by someone else?
patience is a virtue
Spb has to step its game up! Don't get me wrong it (mobile shell) is a good app. But, you got touchflo (buttonflo in my case), all of the iPhone clones and this app. The winmob launcher market is getting crowded and that is good for us.
The only thing that's nice on the iPhone is the size of it's screen and it's multi-touch screen. IMO the interface is stupid. It's more for the average simple minded person where everything is in big and handicap accessible which in turn is contrasted by the annoying slide to unlock which is a pain in the ass to use.

This was a great article.
I liked your analogies used in the article. I think towards the end you focused less on grammar and more on finishing the article though. The beginning seemed much more paced and detailed.
Great article though.. thanks.
now this looks very very interestin!
Well color me interested. Yep, signed up for the beta like everyone else. This is exactly what the WM platform needs I think to get some broader adoption. As with any good development this looks to make use of what's already out there that works well along with things that people feel are bad or missing from current offerings. Can't wait to see it in action.
This is going to improve and completely change our beloved phoneys..
How about making themes for the cooked roms.. A crazy black and moving flash theme..or how about an Elfie Theme with little elfs running around.
Now - GUI guys, you are getting challenged by this new feature of our world.
This is nice, but I don't get it...
Why reduce the today screen to a single button list? I really enjoy being able to precisely customise what is on my today screen, and being able to have any infos I need/want at a glance.
Something more hybrid could in my opinion be better.

I agree, all this iphone style hype and all you end up with is a less usable phone. Apple have everyone fooled, people really need to slow down and have a look at what is really happening.
I would love to see apple similar interface WITH the tabs at the bottom, as "primary apps" each linked to a full screen (one of them could be the "today" tab that would display the today screen if tapped) where you could add or delete and even modify the icons for any programs you wanted on any screen grouping all the applications requiring internet on one screen for example.... seems like a simple idea but haven't seen anything like it... or am I wrong?
this looks quite promising.. if only there were some video shots of it working..
I can only imagine this will be slow.. if its flash its sure to be..
Also.. why have another app running all the time.. the only way for this to really really be useful is for someone to totally modify a ROM to have this as the default shell (which I imagine would be a lot of work) which would then be quite useful.
The other thing is that the Today screen is one of windows mobiles best features over symbian or the iphone as far as im concerned.. its a brilliant interface for presenting a lot of info neatly..
This does look nice.. but like all the other app launchers i bet i'd give up after a few days and go back to the tried and tested today screen.
It looks like it might be good.

WM7 (not, just a major wm6 update)

Has anybody seen/heard anything about this?
Apparently MS are showing it off already and claim it works on existing hardware.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/29/microsoft-shows-next-version-of-windows-mobile-behind-closed-doo/
Id love to have this I guess the wait begins.
looks nice, but which bit of "Nope, it's not Windows Mobile 7 / Photon, " do you not understand.
This is WM6.1, not WM7!!
looking forward to it anyway. WM6 was a vast improvement in stability and function over wm5, and hopefully this will be more steps in the same direction.
If the linked story regarding the carousel UI is true, it might be the first major change to the basic today functions since pocket pc 2000! Much as i love WM and the sheer magnitude of the things i can do on it, the design does suck!

Therefore, WM6.1 is only for smartphone and not for ppc. It's a WM smartphone version. (not touchscreen also)
If they release 1 ver. of it they will release all 3. Givem time..
yes wm6.1 is coming to ppc. it wont just look as good as the smartphone version. or atleast i dont think it will. we'll probably get everything except the home screen carousel.
Interesting
interesting topic. I would love to know if 6.1 will be available for ppc as well. and if so, how would it look like and is it worth the upgrade.

I've been trying ti get an Ameo for the longest. Is there any way I can get one sent from the UK. I know in the US T-Mobile doesn't even carry it. T-Mobile's phones suck over here. All the good stuff is on the other side of the world. Lol. Is there any loophole that I can slip through and get this phone for 50 american dollars?
Update on WM6.1
WM 6.1 has been released for pocket pc. I'm running it on my Axim X50V and it's extremely fast (with proper caching tweaks). It uses up less memory than 6 and they've added in a new task manager.
thats not really an update mate
we have been running 6.1 on the athena since aprl

BeMario - Jump like Super Mario with your GSensor (Diamond & Omnia)

Hey,
id like to present my new Windows Mobile Application for the Diamond and Omnia.
BeMario - Jump like Super Mario enables you to jump like the good old 8-Bit Super Mario. Every time you Jump the "Jump" or "Coin" Sound is playing.
The Theme Song is also included.
You can set the sensitivity by double tapping the screen. The Red horizontal line shows the current sensitivity.
Please tell me what you think about this. Hope you like it
If you like this Application you can Donate in EURO or Donate in USD

Inspired by the Wuvuzela app (and possibly by the announcement of Portal 2 at E3), I've developed a simple little application that allows you to blow into your phone's microphone to blow out candles on a cake.
The options screen, displayed before running the app, now allows you to Calibrate your device's microphone. Simply touch "Calibrate", press OK, and blow into your phones mic until told to stop. The minimum decibels needed blow out the candles are now set to your current environment.
You can also enable the tune, which will play the Happy birthday tune after blowing out the candles.
Finally, you can change the preset message to something more personal, such as "Happy Birthday, Michele!"
Features:
-Blow out candles with your phones mic
-Custom birthday message
-Calibrated to your environment
-New, prettier birthday cake
-Happy birthday tune played in the background
Tested and working on my HTC HD2, but should work on other devices as well.
Let me know what you think/if you have any problems.

That's strange, I suppose the app can't get a hold on your devices microphone. Again, it's only been tested on the HD2.
Nice Application......Thanks
work great on omnia even just half screen...thank..
thanks for this good idea ! But in my HTC Touch HD, doesn't work : the candle is still there even if I blow strongly...
Nice app. But bad for your HD2's mic (corrosion!).
Didn't work on Samsung Omnia 2 (i8000)
Nice application.
But will be better if we can edit the message.
Thank you very much for application. Today is my birthday, even I can't switch off the candle.
I will try to restart the phone just in case.

Happy Birthday! Buy a real cake and share it with family and friends
If I may give my input
I think this application is useless, however many people like useless applications. To be quite honest, I think If you added the happy birthday song within the app that could be played on demand, that would create a much higher demand for it. I know there have been times when its someones birthday and I wish I could play the birthday song..... If this idea intrigues you let me know when you add it so I can be the first to test it out.... seems pretty simple....Good luck
great start....has great potential !!! why not try a new app of bits of paper.....that fly in pointed direction when blown in the mic ????

Also, can anyone see about getting me a cake image I can edit? One without a giant Portal gun?

It is said that the notification LED lamp has been abolished in Xperia 1 V.
As far as I know, I don't think there has ever been an Xperia without a notification LED lamp, so this may be the first Xperia .
I'm not sure why, but I think it's to reduce production costs.
However, there is no doubt that the production cost will go down even a little by not installing it.
By the way, I think that this notification lamp abolition is not a big problem for users who have used other manufacturers' models that have not been installed.
However, it may be quite inconvenient for users who have used Xperia so far.

yeah I`m bummed no Led Notification, but I still pre-order from BHphoto.com and with the 8 Gen 2 and better night cam, and better thermals, I wish they still had a better color or kept the Purple color, but will have a 30 day return to try it out, hopefully it actually will get released on the July 28th.
Hoorah, another new Xperia to buy....I keep going back to them for the SD card and other reasons I can barely justify.
Coming from an 1 III I really hope there's custom ROMs and development!
better keep dreaming your sweetest dreams 0_o

I preordered from Sony. I wish we received the WH-1000XM5 like the UK but we get the linkbuds instead which I will give away. I'll be back in a couple months with feedback.
Does Sony ever have sales on their mobile phones? Any good price drops after xperia IV was released for reference? I know it is discounted now that the V is released, i mean before.
Looking like this will be the best phone of the year but man... thats a lot of money for a phone. It kinda feels morally wrong even though I could afford it.
