BT Headset for Shift PC side & WM side at same time - Shift Accessories

This will be a neat product for the Shift...
BlueAnt Q1: Voice controlled Bluetooth headeset with multi point
http://www.blueantwireless.com/q1/index.html
Looks like it will connect to both the PC side and WM side at same time, and keep both bluetooth connections active! (a bit more unique compared to Jabra T5330M)
Meaning you can take calls from WM using BT and use Skype/Dragon on PC using BT, and switch between them (Both lines stay active and you can switch between 2 devices)
It also has integrated voice commands to carry out some basic functions plus you can store speed dials on the headset (independent of the paired device)
The Q1 product is not out yet, but keep watching their website for it!
I'm sure this will be a Shift "Must Buy"
I'm certainly going to get this for my X7500 and PC, but since it can pair up to 8 devices (and I'm not certain if BT is capable on both sides simultaneous yet, but I'm sure that it's only moments away! :~Fingers crossed~: )
I can't tell from the picture, but the charging connector looks unique not like a "micro USB" or mini-usb, so that means one more type of cable to carry, but inter-changable cable tips are more popular now.
(BTW- I have the BlueAnt V12 LCD headset with vibrate and it uses micro-USB, so I imagine company uses same connector here too...also, I never really got the speaker part of the V12 LCD to sound well, but the Vibrate LCD w/lanyard is nice to carry around as I can have a vibrate caller ID hanging around my neck/pocket and not have to whip out my X7500 just to check who's calling...will need to try this with my SHIFT to see if I can get caller ID from Shift)
Also, this could be a cool feature to someone who knows how to use it (maybe our fellow xda folks)
Updateable firmware (anything we can use here?)
No price yet, but info on their site and hi-re images

Sounds good but first things first! Mate how do you get BT working Winmo side??????

Same with the Plantronics headsets that have multi-point.....however, first we need to get it working on the winmo side......

I'm optomistic that the BT will be coming to WM side eventually...

finally, no one report back this bt devices actually works with SHIFT.
PS: shift in WM side still can not open bt.

To: johnQ , can you find any news from China and Hong Kong , that anyone have able to solve the bluetooth and sd card and mic & earphone use on the windows mobile side ? Please share with us if you manage to get some computer / handphone dealers able to hack and enable the above functions , let us know how to get it done ? Thanks and best regards - jimmunsw

My Dream Pocket Pocket PC Phone Edition Setup

I currently have an XDA and want to upgrade to something but I want to get a device that can do everything I want it to. I am going to list a description of what I want and specific questions I have for you guys about how I can achieve each:
The Phone
It should have bluetooth, wifi, sd slot, integrated or detachable (but usable) keyboard would be nice. The speakerphone should work and should be able to get loud. The phone should sound good; people should not say to me "what's up with your phone?"
1) I am currently playing with an HP 6315 but the phone sounds like crap, especially if you turn up the volume all the way on the speaker phone. Do other devices sound good as a phone?
2) The keyboard on the 6315 is also pretty useless. The buttons are just too small. Has anyone used a detachable or bluetooth keyboard with usably large buttons that works well?
Car Kit
I would like to be able to get into the car, "dock" the PDA and have it charge and connect to my GPS (Tom Tom of course, it's the best right?). I do not want to have to manually connect the cable to the bottom of the PDA; I want a cradle type connection. I would like hands free cell phone access through this same connection. This same connection would also connect the PDA's audio output to my stereo via an FM transmitter or possibly a direct connection. I would also like a 2nd touch screen display (either wired or bluetooth) that could be mounted up on the dash to make GPS easier to view and use.
1) Are there any PPC PE car kits with a cradle like I am describing?
2) Do any of these have the ability to connect to a Tom Tom GPS receiver through that same base? I just need to break out a serial connection right?
3) If the answer to #2 is no, can I just take the car kit apart and connect some wires to my Tom Tom GPS receiver? Are there just TX, RX, and GND connections that I can just wire up?
4) If there is not an FM transmitter, are there audio connections that I can break out and wire up myself to do that too? Maybe just wire the hands free speaker to the FM transmitter?
5) Are there any external VGA screens for pocket PCs? I know WM2003SE supports VGA now but do they exist and are they touch screen?
Bluetooth Headset
I would like a headset that I can wear all day without looking like a major dork. I think it is impractical to have a headset in your pocket when the phone starts ringing. There is no way you can get that thing out and on your ear in time. Is there anything that I can just wear around my neck that could pickup me talking without wearing anything on my ear? I would also like this device to turn itself on as soon as it hears any audio output from the Pocket PC device, especially when the phone is ringing. I would like it to turn on quick enough that I can actually hear the audio, not 2 seconds later. I would also like it to turn itself off when I hang up. It should also have a button that can initiate Microsoft Voice Command. Ideally I would use the bluetooth headset as my phone. I would answer calls, hang up calls and initiate voice dial all with the headset. I would only pickup the PDA when I wanted to use it as a PDA. I would never again hold that screen up to my ear! I would also like this headset to be able to pair with my pc so I can use my VoIP softphone on the pc to make phone calls.
1) So is there a headset that you don't have to put in your ear?
2) If the answer to #1 is no, has anyone considered getting a hearing aid just for this purpose and getting a loop set? I just don't want to be carrying a headset in my pocket all day then having to fumble around for it when the phone is ringing. Maybe this isn’t as big of a problem as I suspect.
3) I have never used a bluetooth headset so I don't know much about them. Do bluetooth headsets turn themselves on automatically when the phone rings?
4) Is there a bluetooth headset that I can answer and hang-up the phone with?
5) Is there a bluetooth headset that I can initiate Microsoft Voice Command with?
6) Even if my "over the ear" phobia can't be resolved, is there anyone who never has to put the screen up to their ear because their bluetooth headset works so well?
7) Has anyone paired any bluetooth headset to their computer to make phone calls via VoIP?
Synchronizing
I will be synchronizing with my exchange server with up to date notifications enabled. So WM2003 will be required. When I am at my desk I would like for the Pocket PC to stay on my belt, but detect that I am in the office and start doing desktop sync via bluetooth (or wifi). The device should be able to pair with the headset and the desktop computer at the same time.
1) Is this desktop bluetooth sync thing I am describing possible?
2) Can a device pair with multiple devices at the same time? How many can it pair with?
mate, some asnwers to your questions...others may have other opinions or ideas...
1) I am currently playing with an HP 6315 but the phone sounds like crap, especially if you turn up the volume all the way on the speaker phone. Do other devices sound good as a phone?
ANS - i use the xda2; though the loudspeaker isn't as good but generally i'm satisfied with it. but i never put the phone to my ear since i use a bluetooth headset (more comments on that one below)
2) The keyboard on the 6315 is also pretty useless. The buttons are just too small. Has anyone used a detachable or bluetooth keyboard with usably large buttons that works well?
ANS: which is probably one thing why i think i won't be getting the mda3...but i have used a foldable keyboard or used my laptop (with a 3rd party software) to use the keyboard and mouse to control the xda2
Bluetooth
1) So is there a headset that you don't have to put in your ear?
ANS: i used to have the jabra but found it to be weird having to wear it on my ear all the time. plus if i wear it for long periods, i develop a "cramp" on my ear...and had some issues with bonding when activesync was being done. i NOW use the O2 headset; see attached pic. i like it because it's very discreet; it just clips on my collar / shirt and i let the headphone dangle inside my shirt pocket. or i can holster it on the clip-mike. the headset can receive or end calls, so when i'm driving i don't have to hold my pda. don't have any issues with it; no bonding issues, reception is great, mike is sensitive, etc.
23) I have never used a bluetooth headset so I don't know much about them. Do bluetooth headsets turn themselves on automatically when the phone rings?
ANS - yes, when the phone rings, it's immediately transferred to the headset and all i have to do is switch it on to receive the call (for my o2 the switch is on the headphone), or click it twice to reject the call.
4) Is there a bluetooth headset that I can answer and hang-up the phone with?
ANS - i think most of them do...
6) Even if my "over the ear" phobia can't be resolved, is there anyone who never has to put the screen up to their ear because their bluetooth headset works so well?
ANs - love my O2 headset and my bt is on 24 hours a day but when my headset is charging then i have to take the xda to my ear
Syncing
1) Is this desktop bluetooth sync thing I am describing possible?
ANS - yes, you're talking about the bluetooth-activesync method. i'm using it via my diffusi bt dongle; works great and no need for cables. the only limitation i see is possibly the range since the xda and the laptop can't be separated for more than 30 or so meters. but syncing is very easy and convenient via bt...oh and the great thing about bt-activesync is that you can turn off the screen of your pda and still the laptop is synced. saves you on battery time...
2) Can a device pair with multiple devices at the same time? How many can it pair with?
ANS: not sure here but my xda is paired with my headset, my laptop and my tomtom...oh and my wife's ericsson...
hope that helps.

Interesting reading, you certainly have put some decent thought into this. Let me share my experience with a bluetooth headset:
I have the Jabra BT200. It is a very comfortable unit, more comfortable than anything I have tried out there. I am using it with my iMate PPCPE and it works pretty well. 1 out of 20 times when the phone rings, the call for some reason won't get transferred to the BT headset. -But I can live with that. The sound quality is not as good as a regular wired earpiece. Using the BT headset will put an additional and noticeable strain on your phones battery resulting in less battery life before you need to recharge. I can answer and end calls from the Jabra BT headset but it does not work with MS Voice Command (Which I would discourage use of for other reasons: It's Not stable on the iMate, makes it hang needing hard reset) meaning you can't press a button on the headset and speak to the phone through the headset. The battery life of the Jabra is about 1 hour of talk time or abuot 1 day of standby with a couple of brief conversations during the day. The only complaint about he Jabra BT200 pertains to how I choose to use it: I usually don't waer it unless I'm on a call. When the phone rings, it sometimes takes too long to get the headset out of my pocket and properly on / in my ear. The little gel-like thing that goes in the ear rotates too easily.
mate,
regarding:

i guess this depends on a mate's usage; but are you sure about the 1-day battery life? like i mentioned i used to have a jabra (bt200) and the standby would be around 3-4 days...that's why the bt250 came out which boasts a standby power of around 8-10 days. just curious...
oh and i didn't like fiddling around in my pocket when the phone rang...specially with the ear gel/bud sometimes rotating...or even coming off when i did get it out of my pocket.... that's why i changed headsets.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure about the 1 day usage. I usually get right around 1 days worth of standby, talk w. BT headset, checking email and playing a couple of games. -But that's fine for me. I have never found myself in a situation where I couldn't charge my iMate overnight so 1 full day of somewhat serious use is just fine for me.

Bluetooth In car Hands free options

I am exploring Hands free options other than a bluetooth headset for when I am driving.
I am contemplating between a a pioneer Audio Head unit CD player and can pair with 4 phones. Feed back from a few owners of this headset s very positive with excellent sound quality when using the phone.
( I have not a chance to test my qtek 9100 with this head unit)
The alternative would be a Tom Tom 500/700 - It offer bluetooth handsfree mode with phones and would give Navigation aswell. Does anyone have any experience of the call/sound quality an user experience with the wizard?
What other suggestions are there?
regards
Jass
I have no experience with either of these. I use a Parrot, and it works flawlessly. It can pair with 4 devices at once. Prolly the best $199 I've spent on gadgets.

I can highly recommend the Parrot Rhythmn n' Blue MP3 CD Head unit.
I treated myself to one which arrived last Saturday and I fitted inside of an hour on Sunday. It is supplied with an external microphone which connects to the rear of the unit and has a long cord for routing behind fascia and carpets. It paired quickly with my iMate KJam running iMate's latest ROM, synchonised the phonebook (160 contacts) inside of 2 minutes
Note that it doesn't seem to like synchonising multiple numbers for contacts with very long names.
Callers report clear conversations and I'm thrilled with it - the MP3 CD unit works well and has no issue with folder depth (tested with Artist - Album folder structure), the radio supports RDS and Traffic Announcements, and the Bluetooth Firmware update facility is smooth.
Colleagues who've used the TomTom GPS units with Bluetooth as handsfree suggest that an external microphone is necessary for clear conversation.

Thanks for that Info - I ordered one over Easter and it should be with me any day this week.

I have a xda mini s and this does not work with the Pioneer Blue Tooth Head Unit.
If anyone else actually got this to work, please let me know.
Thanks
Hi,
I tried my Audi navigator plus with both the Blue Angel and now with my new Wizard. It connects and can talk .... BUT ..... after some time the unit get into sleep mode and bluetooth is lost.
My solution ... car charger. I can set up the telephone to be up when connected. It does not go into sleep mode and the connection remains for ever.
This solution is anyhow a pain in the back side ... with my small and simple siemens I got in the car, got connected ... now I have to find the cable connect the MDA.
There is lot of information (and for the time being no solution) in the blue angel forum.
Regards.

two devices, one headset

is it possible for incomng/outgoing calls to use the same bluetooth earpiece with two devices?
if so... what brand should i get?
the two devices are a Blackstone and a Polaris.
Thats a question I would love an answer to. So far the onlt bluetooth device that i've found to do this is the Jabra BT8040. I own one and it works as advertised though with some bugs....
TechAnimal
what kind of bugs?
An example, when you're in a call with one phone and the other rings, it switches to the ringing phone without you answering, which leaves the person you were speaking to wondering what the heck happened.
TechAnimal
I could live with that... I just switch one off =)). Kidding now... it's rather rare when this happends. Just that I can't find the earpiece here... i searched each romanian online store... nothing

Sure, it is called BlueAnt and I have two of them. Both the black color and the red color. Couldn't decide which one to get, so went for both colors.
However, one is sufficient!
The z9i:
http://www.myblueant.com/z9i_headset.htm
Since then they have come out with a newer model called V1, which has voice command build into the bluetooth.
http://www.myblueant.com/v1_voice_control.htm
I paid $75 each for the z9i year ago, they are now less than $40 each .
KOR!
Also, they give you a cable for firmware upgrade. When I bough mine it had v1.0 firmware on them, since then I have upgraded to v1.1

this is the head set that I use with my Trinity and my Breeze:
http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/products/mobile/bluetooth-headsets/voyager-815
and you can find it in romania too.
Jabr BT8010 can do it as well. I own one and its a pretty cool peace of toy. Especially to see on the screen of the headset who is calling and that you can even dial with this headset names from your phoneboock is very convinient. I dont want to miss it anymore.

Thanks a lot! I found it at a good price here which is awsome.
Multumesc!
was my pleasure to help you.
I did buy it from vodafone, on points (was free for me)
you can try in there if you have some points.
SE HBH-DS980 works fine with two devices.
gentillo
too many wires I already ordered the plantronics earpiece. as soon as it arrives i'll let you know how it works.
it arrived
While on vacation, the earpiece arrived.
+ good sound quality
+ easy pairing
+ it pairs to more than two devices
+ accessories (it was shipped with different earbugs and earloops, to fit more customers)
= battery life
- small range: if more than 5 meters (even with direct line of sight) the call could be considered as dropped
- no car charger or USB charger in the package (uses proprietary charging socket)
I'd say it's a 8/10.

Eh?! What the deuce? I use this headset every day but never knew you can get dual connections on it?
Are you sure you don't mean multiple PAIRING? I haven't seen a headset (other than dodgy $5 nobrand ones) that can't multi-pair, it's pretty much a prerequisite of any bluetooth headsets to even make it to market these days.
But being able to connect to more than 1 host device is the challenge here...eg: listening to music via A2DP on the Blackstone and have my music automatically pause to answer a call coming in a Trinity for example...and vice versa... and if I press the voice command button, which phone does it issue the voice command to... etc..

Hi guys, anyone here encountered this issue of a non-stereo headset (mine is an SE HBH PV705) that while playing music/audios, it would cutoff from the headset and play through the ppc-speaker at every 4-5 mins.?? Each time I'll have to press the headset button to resume listening through the headset.
...I've never had this issue with my WM5 ppc with the same headset - I can listen through the headset for hours even w/o any interruptions.
...solved.
For in car use both Nexus and Movon have products that do this - both available from amazon.co.uk or were last time I looked:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=227944&C=AffilWin89477&T=41513_
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Movon-MK30-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Car/dp/B001EKMRVU
Jabra BT 8010 or 8040 do the job well with the glitches already mentioned with simultaneous calls. They have "multipoint technology" that is they poll both the handsets alternately making both think that have an individual headset paired.
I had problem with 8040 due to sweating. Sweat like hell.. and they are NOT water resistant, something you need to keep in mind if u are planning to get one.
2 devices, one headset
Yes, I also have the problem. I got a headset which can connect two mobiles, both are Nokia but I can't do that with one PPC phone and one Nokia?
What wrong or may be some setting on PPC need?
Thanks

car bluetooth speakerphone???

Can someone recommend a bluetooth speakerphone for the car with caller ID and phone book display that I can put on the dash or somewhere else in the car? I have one build into my garmin NUVI GPS but it doesnt anways work right.. I would like to find one that WORKS correctly with the TP2 and isnt too expensive....
NO ONE? no one with any suggestions??

I guess I should have been more specific.. I need one that works correctly with the touch pro 2 phone....

I picked up this bluetooth speakerphone last week and it's very nice. There is no display, but it does use voice command and announces callers names (CID). Your address book transfers to the device right after pairing. It has an auto on/off feature too. It turns on when you get into your vehicle and shuts off when you leave. I've been using it a few days and nobody I talk with on the device has mentioned any problems hearing me. It runs on a Lithium Ion battery (rechargeable - car charger included). I picked it up at Best Buy on sale for $69.99.

HOW does the phonebook work? how to you search through the phonebook and find someone to call?
Um, isn't the TP2 a speakerphone? One that could be placed on the dash? And with VoiceCommand or the equivalent, and with a VC-compatible bluetooth headset what would be the need for yet another device to provide the same capability? What am I missing?
edit: I bought Vito Technology's Voice2Go tonight. Great little app with decent speech recognition. Can be used to call contacts, but also to start apps and even record macro's which can then be turned into speech activated command sets. It has "secret word" functionality which can optionally leave it in a listening state, waiting for a secret word that will activate the software and wait for your commands. I think this works much like MS VC. Either one, coupled with the TP2 should provide the same functionality as a bluetooth speakerphone.

[Q] Usability, Multimedia and Toughness

Hi to all, i would like to ask some questions about this device:
Usability:
actually i use a Nokia n82 with a bluetooth headset for work reasons, in my car. Pressing the a button on my bt headset, the n82 listens for the name of my contact i wish to call. I simply say the name and the phone calls it for me.
Does the sgs2 have this feature?
Multimedia:
Hows the audio quality in headset?
I know that it's possible to connect the phone to hdmi via an mhl adapter. Do you know if multichannel audio is supported?
Toughness:
How's the phone durability? Any drop or scrach test anywere? What your opinions?
Thankyou very much for your help

Hir DrSlump76,
I just got my Galaxy S II last week and I must say even though it's plastic, it's one nice build.
Buildquality:
It is very thin (not as thin as the i4, BUT the bigger diagonale makes it feel even thinner) and exceptionally light.
The battery cover is ridiculously thin, but tough enough.
The Handset feels very solid and not as "vulnerable" as the iPhones tend to feel.
Voicecontrol:
My device has no branding and contains only the samsung-specific apps.
I was surprised to see that it contains not only a Google voicecontrol app, but also one from Samsung. Both seem to be good quality and understood my commands well (surprisingly for the samsung app).
Especially the car mode is nice, as it sets the phone in a state where you can just say "Hey Galaxy [Voicecommand]" without pressing a button!
Multimedia:
Coming from an iPhone, I had low expectations for the mediaplayer and Im not completely convinced yet (also due to the fact that I didnt try it enough).
The Samsung player offers 5.1 Channel support if the attached device supports it!
Sending pics or videos to a TV via DLNA (or "Allshare" as samsung calls it) is awesome. No setup, no cables required!
As you can tell Im really excited about this phone (as I should be, paying 500€ for it...).
If you have any more specific questions, dont hesitate to ask
Hi knusprig, thankyou for your reply.
The phone will be used without a flat connection for now. I know that other android phones that uses google voice api needs an internet access. Does the samsung voice solution based on vlingo need a internet connection to work? Actually the voice dialer included in my nokia n82 does not need any internet connection to work.
I will use the phone in my 24h bag and i will comunicate with him with a bluetooth headset (as i already do with the n82): do you know if i will be able to command by voice my phone even without seeing it as i do now?
P.s. what about included headset audio quality??
Thankyou again
