fully unlocked G4...want to upgrade radio but want to do it safely - G4

I have set aside the radio's to flash to my rom. I plan on flashing Cracing's Cr96 wm6.1 v3.0...but before i do it...i would like to know what i need to do to put either radio 2.69.11 or 3.08.11 with the rom. Not update IPL/SPL I know that will brick my phone. i just want to do the radio. I'm not a total noob but i have looked all over the place the last week or so and have not found what i am looking for. any one assist? I am planning on leaving the area on monday but want to make sure i have a good radio since i will be leaving my carrier's market. i'm supposed to have nationwide (T-Mobile affiliate) but just want to make sure before i leave that i have a good radio.
Nm...took care of it. Thanks Cracing for your help.

upgrading help

I was looking into upgrading my HTC tytn to the latest version. For some reason mine will randomly lock up.
Currently I have this info.
Rom:1.18.255.3
Date 07/22/06
Radio: 1.03.03.10
Protocol 32.34.7010.01H
ExtROM: 1.18.255.106
I just want the latest full version out there, not from other providers. Where can I find this?
Man Im new here just like you, but you have got to make an effort to read whats already here.
Have you read this yet? Also, when you say you dont want any ROM's from "other providers" thats kind of difficult to pin point when we have no idea who your provider is.
The info has already been provided on the wiki and upgrading tutorials, I would start there. I think after reading that info if your still having issues then I would ask a question specific to the problem you're having and Im sure someone will answer.
I think everyone will be helpful to those that try to help themselves first.
I read that but still am a bit lost. I use Orange and Tmobile, but the the phone I bought is unlocked and not from a provider
In my opinion, the best ROM right now is 2.05. Radio is 1.27. The "easy" upgrade doesn't give you good and stable performance for the device. So, you really need to read a lot before decide to play around with the phone.
What is the "easy" upgrade?

Download an .exe file from the FTP and double clicking it to upgrade your device. If you haven't unlock/SuperCID your device, you are even more limited in choices.
If you havent SuperCID... Is that an insult?

Upgrade Question

Please dont flame me. I have done alot of reading ... so much so that I think I have confused myself. I dont need step by steps how to do it ... I just need to know if what I am reading is correct or not.
I installed the new ROM and here is my info.
ROM 2.06.502.3
Radio 1.16.00.00
IPL - 1.00
SPL - 1.09
From there I did the v3 SIM & CID Unlocker ... which I did before but did again because I was not sure if it would stick.
All I want to do is upgrade the radio ... I drop alot of calls and I am hoping that 1.27.00.00 helps.
To do this, would I need to run the program to take my BL v. to 1.01 MFG from 1.09, then upgrade to 1.04. Then I can install a new radio ROM? Or is there something else that is keeping me from doing it.
I am sorry and I promise not to ask anymore noob questions. I just want to make sure I fully understand.
Thanks guys.
Kangle
BTW, I think the new ROM version is great. My 8525 is running better than ever (faster) and battery life is WAY better than it was before. I strongly recommend it. Disable the startup animation though! It sucks and it messes up your volume.
bump
Please, anyone. I really appreciate it.
Well, I am by far no expert on this (and scared of bricking my device) ... so what I did was everything you described ... then I re-installed the new Cingular ROM ... thereby upgrading my radio to 1.33.31.00.
Had I foresight, I would have used the unlocker before upgrading to the new Cinguar ROM (so I would not have to install it twice)...live and learn.
I did not bother with the steps you described necessary to install the 1.27 radio ...figuring I could live with 1.33.31.00
sorry, I misread your post.
-------------
You got radio 1.16 which has radiobl 107, so go ahead and grab a copy of the 1.27 radiorom and run the update.
I read that I need to have BL 1.04 to upgrade the radio.
I currently have BL 1.09. So the only way I can go back to 1.04 is by going to imei-check.co.uk and paying for it right?
Thanks,
Kangle
why do you want 1.27 instead of 1.33?
so, no one answered my prior question ... I realize the Radio ROMs are subjective (and discussed ad naseum in various places on this forum) but I am still looking for a succinct summary (if there is one) as to why I would tinker with my Radio ROM to get off of 1.33 and maybe down to 1.27 or some other.
Are there known and significant issues with 1.33?
Anyone?
I really dont know.
Most of the people I see on the forum are on 1.27.00.
I thought I read somewhere that it seemed to work well for most people, although I do not know why 1.33 wouldnt be just as good. Im still a noob.
If anybody can confirm what I am thinking regarding what I need to do, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Kangle
well, 1.33 is working fine for me... and it certainly would be *easier* for you just to re-flash the new cingular rom again (now that you are sim unlocked and super cid) ... that is what I did, and it worked fine. [and candidly, I was to scared of the many steps I was going to need to take to otherwise downgrade my SPL in order to change my Radio]

No issues with 1.33. The only advantage of the 1.27 radio is that it uses radio bootloader (RBL) 1.007, whereas Radio 1.33 has RBL 1.008. The difference is that you can run downgrades on 1.27, but not on 1.33.
The only reason that you might want to downgrade is so that you may flash a trinity Radio if they manage to get the GPS going, which seems unlikely without a hardware mod. So unless you plan on opening up your Hermes at some stage to do some surgery, you don't need to downgrade the radio stack.

Radio Roms

im looking to upgrade my radio on my AT&T 8125 it is locked
and i was wondering whats the best one for me
i live in California around LA i need help
im really new at this and can anyone tell me
where i can find these radio upgrades thanks
You need to try it yourself to see which is the best one for your network and location.
Radio ROMs can be found in xda's FTP site (ftp://xda:[email protected]) under Wizard directory.
Will flashing a radio rom on a CID locked G4 MDA work? Will this mess up anything? I have searched around but found nothing. Thank you.
No, changing radio ROM does not require a CID-unlocked device, just run the Radio-only RUU directly and you're done.

Do I have a new VZW STOCK radio and rom?

I just received a replacement phone from VZW and it appears to have a stock radio/rom that I cannot find the in the community.
From the right side of the boot screen:
P DCBBPZM-615010
R 1.03.09V
D 1.08
From the bootloader (tri-color) screen:
SPL-0.40.0000
From the About screen in Settings:
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
CE OS 5.2.20769 (Build 20679.1.4.5)
I was able to rip the flash memory from a tutorial on this site (link) but I have still yet to find a tutorial about dumping the radio. I have been doing searches on here and on PPCGeeks, but I have not found what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any help they can give?
Thanks to Mattheyu and CheezWiz on PPCGeeks for the help so far.

would love to try a new tp radio
You can't extract a radio from a dumped ROM.... All radios are extracted from Shipped ROMS.

I know for a fact that all of them aren't extracted from shipped ROMS. I know that they include them, but if you look at my first post I have the raw files dumped from my phone's memory, not just the ROM. If these raw files do not include the radio, then I would be happy to learn how to dump the radio as well. I know it can be done, I just don't have the means to do it.
just to let you know this radio is already dumped and you can use it on the tp for cdma. not sure about gsm though. i really really want a dumped shipped rom of alltel or just even the stock radio would be fine.

You and me both brotha, I have a feeling now that the merger is in full swing, us Alltel peeps wont be seeing any new ROM updates or new devices. I really hope I'm wrong though.
As you mentioned psycho_maniac, VZW has released an update that was leaked to the community. I'm not giving up my pursuit, but now it has turned from me wanting to give a new radio to the community, to how much I can learn about this stuff. If anyone has any adivce on the use of QMAT, please feel free to give it.
I wish you two, and all other alltel customers luck on getting an alltel update.

i think i already have spl on my phone if so can i just flash the rom.if i flash a new radio will i get better reception,my phone wont work in the house
Flashing and SPL
If you have an unlocked Fuze, it does not mean that you have installed the hard Spl. Unlocked means that you are able to use your phone on any network, and you have the ability to flash non-raphael radios to your device. If you would like to flash a 6.5 rom to your Fuze, you need to flash the hard spl first, choose a rom, and flash your chosen rom. As far as signal goes, some roms work well with certain radios. Read the forums for the rom that you choose and see what kind of radio the chef recommends. Another thing that I can recommend is to go to the HTC website and take a look at the official update for the Fuze. This is a rom and a radio package that in my experience made my phone work much better than before. The update to the radio boosted my signal, and it unlocked the gps to work with any program since a stock Fuze gps works only with the At&t navigation program. All in all, the best advice I can give you is read up on the xda forums. The contributors on this forum are amazing and have put countless hours into turning our stock (crappy) Raphaels into real i-phone killers.
when its on blue, green, red boot screen it says spl 1.90. olinix
if you've flashed hard-spl, then you are ready to flash a rom.
yes, changing your radio could possibly result in improved reception. radios have different results for everyone and depends largely on where you live.
deadcpu already gave you the thread that has all the information you need. read it.
