European Hero - US Wall Charger? - Hero, G2 Touch Accessories

Hey all, I'm planning on getting a Hero online since I do not like Sprint's version.
I was wondering what you US users that imported the Hero use to charge your Hero via wall charger. Old iPhone charger? Old G1 charger? If not, did you buy one from somewhere? Any recommendations are welcome!
Thank you!

USB? (And I think the USB-to-wall-thingie came with a changable wall-piece

You can use a mini usb to recharge the phone. I just used my old blackberry mini usb wall charger rather than buying a new one. It will also work plugged into the computer but it takes too long to charge that way.

g1 charger will do fine

The charger supplied with the European Hero handles 100-240V 50-60HZ so you should be ok with just a converter plug. The original charger also has a replaceable wall-piece which can be fitted with plugs as necessary. It only comes with one depending on the market where it is purchased, but there's at least Euopean, UK and US plugs available.
Then there's the option of using any USB charger on the market.

Any folks know where to buy an original HTC uk charger?
I left mine in a travel inn!
If you have a spare I will buy it off you.
UK charger
Hello,
You can charge your device with any USB mini cable from a computer or a powered USB hub (in this case you don't even need the computer). Anyway if this solution is not suitable for you I do have an original UK T-Mobile MDA charger here in Finland. Because I can't use it here I can sell it to you.

Not sure if the Wizard is using the same. Anyway, as HTC units can be charged via USB cable, I presume the voltage and stuff are relatively standard. Hence, you might able to get any USB charger to charge your unit. BTW, I've tried charging use the Motorola's USB charger, it doesn't work with my Charmer. Not sure why.
Great news to me, Visi.
Could you email about this please,

I bought one of these for my Universal but I am sure they are same as the wizard. Someone will confirm

Using a charger from another phone

Just picked up an unlocked Cingular/ATT 8525, but it only came with the USB synch cord. I know I can charge it with that, but I also have a wall charger and a car charger from my Razor V3 that seems to fit the factory specs in V&A. Would it be safe to use these with the Hermes or should I bite the bullet and get new chargers?
Any USB Charger should do it. All will be 5v at 500mA+.
As the above poster says other chargers at 500mA will work. BUT if you do some searches you will realise that the Hermes charger is 1000mAand in a few circumstances this is a better rating. So if you get the chance to pick up an official one then I suggest you do. There have been problems reported with using under powered non official chargers. For toppping up now and then it's not a problem though.
Mike
They'll work fine. Even if it's 500mA, it will just charge a little slower than the 1000mA OEM charger.
had an imate jam fried by a motorola charger... haven't been game enough to put my jasjam on again... cheers....
i would be very hesitant in using non genuine chargers. there are problems with them in regards to properly charging the unit. do a search and see for yourself on the forum
I used to use a Moto Razr charger with my wiza and my hermes. The only downfall is that if your battery completely dies it cant jump start it to begin the charge.
Is it fine to use a htc touch charger for my jasjam? So any genuine HTC charger that has a mini-USB connection should be fine?

Yes, I use my friends HTC S710 (Vox) charger all the time and it's fine both for my phone and Moto S9's headphones.

Ok thanks for that.
Would this USB charger be fine? http://www.zazz.com.au/ (there's 1.5 hours left on it) The DC output specs for the ac adapter are 400mA. Would this have a negative effect on the JasJam?

How sensitive is the phone to voltage fluctuations? Just noticed that my old 8125 charger is 5.5V and I also have a Motorola portable charger rated at 5 +/- 0.25V
I got a generic little car charger that works fine... It was "Lazer" brand from china...
Maybe, if you're in Australia you might be able to find it.
Cheers....
yeah, i'm using "Capdase" miniUSB charger [5V 1A]. it charges my hermes [from 10%] to full for ~2h30m
i have been using a motorola a1200 since i picked up this device used and it didnt come with anything
it just takes longer for the device to recognize its charging and it takes longer to fill up the battery

tilt charger on tilt2?

im moving from my ATT Tilt to the HTC Tilt2, and was wondering if the wall and car chargers from the origional tilt would be compatable with the tilt2?
i hope so, both being HTC products and all, but not sure because of the larger battery size of the tilt2, and if there is a difference in the volt/amp on the chargers...
if this has already been asked, im sorry, i couldnt find it.
No its not the plug is a l ittle different....
I'm using the wall charger that came from my HTC Hermes (AT&T 8525) with my Tilt2 and it's working fine. Also the USB cable/cigarette lighter combo that I used with my Tilt is working fine on the Tilt2.
This charger also worked with the Tilt as well.
Mini-USB has certain restrictions on how much the device can draw in terms of voltage and amps, these restrictions are put in place mainly to prevent USB devices from drawing too much power from PCs (mainly laptops, which may be running off of a battery).
Long story short, yes, your Tilt2 should work fine with the Tilt charger, assuming that they didn't put something extra on the plug (I've never even taken my Tilt charger out of the box).

Same here, since the TyTN, they all take MiniUSB 1Amp chargers. External battery chargers are a different thing however...
I'm using the charger that came with my Wizard since my unbranded phone came with the European charger and a honkin big adapter.
I have 3 HTC phones and all the chargers work with each phone and don't seem to have more or less a charge time. Most mini usb plugs will work with any HTC phone. I have the Tilt, Fuze and Tilt 2.
Yes it should work
thanx all, when i got home i actually looked at the specs on the chanrgers input and output and they were identical
i just didnt care for the charger that came with the tilt2, as a 3 piece unit vs the 1 piece tilt charger that also has a much longer cord...
I use my older wall charger and car charger from my Tilt on my Tilt2, and they both work fine.
I'm with you, I don't like the modular design of the newer wall charger. The old one is simple, and I like that. Seems like HTC was just cheaping out by using the same cord for both the wall charger and phone-to-USB. I've been using the cord to hook up the phone to my PC. But the charger part has not left the plastic bag it came in.
I'd call it Apple'ing up rather than cheaping out. The new charger is a lot like the iPhone's with it's usb/plug-in config... I willl say this, then yield to experts. I've noticed some disconnects while using the old cable for tethering that i do not observe while using the new cable. Could be my specific cables as they are old but I am using the new stuff and even considering buying an AC adapter and a couple new cables with the new plug.

International USB Charger Recommendations?

I have been searching high and low for a good international USB charger for my TP2 (and other devices). I've found several, but reviews tend to be either mixed or non-existent.
My dream gizmo is something very compact and lightweight that can be jammed into almost any wall outlet in the world, which I can then plug a USB cable into and charge my TP2 (and ideally other stuff which can be charged with a standard USB cable).
Do any of you fine forum folks have suggestions? Or at least warnings for which products to avoid?
Well, when I travel I have a universal travel adaptor (ie it can fit into any power plug), and I plug into that the USB charger that came from HTC. Or I charge from my laptop.
HTC itself sells an international charger kit, but if you're going to multiple countries, it just means extra weight.

Just about any USB charger that has a 5.0V output should do fine. I use the same one that charges my iPod to charge various gadgets.
I picked up a nice one on one of Cathy Pacific's flights. They also sell them on their site.

Oh! I also have iGO laptop charger and various adapters. iGo works great.

Cant get car charger to work... any ideas?

hi,
I've got a couple of micro usb car chargers I bought to charge my old samsungs.... but they dont charge my X10.
I've shorted pins 2 and 3 on one of them( d+ and d-) as per this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696760&page=2
but it's still not charging my x10, if anything the battery is being drained quicker when plugged in to the car charger
the label states the output on the charger i have shorted is 4.2- 10v @ 600mA, 750mA max
is there something I am missing?
edit: I've read some of the charging threads and discovered the li-poly battery protection circuit is stopping my cheap chargers from working, so it looks like I need to buy genuine sony (Sony an300), I wonder if this is deliberate on sony's part? I thought the whole point of standardising phone chargers to micro usb - is so that they don't go to waste every time you buy a new phone?
I found that using the original micro USB cable (Or a good quality one) and one of these -> Car USB Outlet works better than buying an adapter with the cable already attached.
Such was the case with my X1 and X2 as well.
These newer gen ones are around 700mA instead of 500mA.

Hi
I have one of these from Blue unplugged. go to blueunplugged dot com. in the quickcode type 139166. It is a 'Santok STK Car Charger With 1A USB Port'
I worked on my old X1 and with a micro usb cable it works on my X10 too.
I previously had a different device. It got very hot when I was on the phone and using satnav. This one is great. Its not missed a beat.
I think this is the cable, Quickcode 138344. Please check before purchasing though!
sorry can't post URLs.

I use my Motorola car charger and it works fine when my phone has some juice left in the battery. the first time I tried to use it the battery was completely flat and the charger would not work well, though

I bought that one, and it doesn't work with my X10. I have tried other USB devices, and the charger works.
After contacting the vendor (e-cell) they are going to send me another unit, free of charges. But I am not sure if it will work, either.

I bought one the other week to try, it doesn't work with the standard SE cable.
The light on the actual plug comes on but nothing indicates it being plugged in on the phone itself.
I've found no 3rd party in-car chargers work with the X10 and after reading all the problems people had here, I just went and bought an official Sony Ericsson one of eBay for £15. Works perfectly
I think you have to have one that has an output of exactly 700 mAp.
I've tested with higher and lower amperage and nothing worked.
I grabbed an SE AN300 off Play.com and it works with no issue. Looks like I made a trouble-free choice.
