TG01 or Htc touch hd blackstone- Buy? - TG01 General

i actually have bought htc touch hd but waiting for delivery.
now tg01 may have successfull cooked roms and bugs ironed out, what should i keep?
i would like android on tg01 but thats ages away prob
touch has android via sd
tg01 good screen thin light 1ghz cpu
help me decide

The usefulness of a device is very personal one, good specs don`t mean is right for you ,it all depends on what you think is important to your uses.
I find that Toshiba is useful for me cause it`s fast and screen is good for video, is HTC Touch HD stable? I don`t know, I have never used one so I can`t really comment on it at all.

i had HD, now tg01...i should recomend HD, but, the CPu is not so good (half of tg01) and, believe me, you will feel it. otherwise, I would rather buy a HD instead of TG01.

TOUCH HD
Now settled in mostly with touch hd, video recording quality bummer tho

Is it worth upgrading from Prophet?

Hi all,
I am currently using a prophet upgraded from Magician. Just wondered if it really worth upgrading to TyTN. I know that it has a faster processor and a slide out keyboard with the expense of some compromise on the size. To me size is a big factor. And I love my Prophet especially the design. But I would definitely like a faster processor. I dont think I would worry too much about the slide out keyboard. For people who already using TyTN, is it really faster than Prophet apart from the numbers? Is it really worth upgrading?
If you don't want a keyboard wait for the HTC Trinity, meant to be out towards the end of the year
Hmm, it is good one. I wont mind a keyboard as long as it doesnt add to the size. I dont mind a keyboard on my prophet 8)
I would and I did!!

Hi. I too have the prophet but went for the upgrade to the T-mobile variant of the Hermes/TyTN. I don't rgret it at all, but unless, like me, you prefer a keboard, superior camera interface and options and HSDPA (fast Internet at home or over UTMS-3G) and Video calling capabilities, you don't really need it. The 400Mhz CPU is powerful, but unless you intent to heavily multitask or use skype, you won't see any difference in speed if you're running your prophet overclocked at 240MHz! Just my 2 pence worth.
I still have the Prophet (my daughter is using it), but I wouldn't change back to it.
Thanks for ur reply. For me size does matter. I dont understand why they cant incorporate a keyboard and still make it smaller. I like the tytn, with the jog wheel, keyboard and good processor. But it does look like a brick.

Yeah it does look nice. the only con I can see from the specs is the 64MB SDRAM. It should have been loaded with a 128MB and it will be the godzilla of all ATOMS hehehe
some little add-ons left by MWg that was not integrated with the atom v
* a standard 3.5mm jack would be nice as well
* where's the IR? no more novII remote hehehe
Very nice...love that it has gps!
Seems it will be released in feb...I'll be getting one then
and its quite cheap! AU$839. htc touch cruise will be $1159!
Looks like it is QVGA (320x240)
thinks the Zinc II is nicer...
It be great if CPU up to 624Mhz and 1GB ROM like Atom Life and plus 128MB Ram
Love that camera is 3M Pixel
Don't know why they put gprs onto it but not increase cpu speed/ storage for big gps apps/ RAM for fast cache
Is it 520Mhz cpu perform faster or better than Atom Life??
Although i like the look of Atom Exec than Life or V
In my though
It will perfectly for me if
- CPU Better than or Equal 624MHz
- RAM >= 128MB
- ROM >= 512MB
- OS >= WM6
- GPS built in
- Camera >= 3MP (Better if 4MP or 5 MP) with better Zoom function
- Better Speaker than current Atom
- Less power comsumption (Conflict with CPU Speed) or Greater Battery
- LCD more than 2.8"
- Better HeadSet and can use with 3rd Party stereo earphone with FM enable through it
- Better Bluetooth Stack for Better music via bluetooth stereo with FM enable through it
I'm greedy ..... he he he
hehe, I like your suggestions! Also needs:
- 640x480 resolution screen
- Infared (only so I can use novii remote)

Yeah... was going to get a HTC cruise but the Orbit II, Atom V and Zinx II all tick the right boxes for my needs... Would agree the Zinc II look very sexy
Doh, specs have changed to 2MP camera...

I have said I won't buy any other Atom, just look at the popularity of AtomExec and its supports that we are getting.
You sure want to go there again?
MWG stated, that the new devices are from Arima and Gigabyte and they don't longer have a partnership with Quanta and Asustek.

had an 02 Atom for 20 months now and very happy with except the IR cover fell out... kept 02 ROM updates and has been stable with very little resets (could go many months with one). As with anything that becomes popular (aka iPod) there are going to be issues. Believe they really need to get their service game in order and hopefully MWg is more than a name change and fix that ... but they are coming out with some good looking/spec devices... Zinc II, Orbit II (HTC Touch Cruise) Atom V etc... because of my experience would consider but understand others may not .... we can only base on our own experience and mine is yes would go there again

Not going to argue with you. One of my friend is very happy running with his Windows 2000 and couldn't get him moved to XP even with a gun pointing at his head. Different strokes for different folks. But, being a Computer Junkie, I can guess what majority of the people like or dislike in gadgets and very seldom err.
AtomExec is very sexy, I paid HKD5,900 for it so you can estimate the time frame. Mind you that I already had an Dopod 818, an Treo650 and an O2 xda (818pro). The logic of wanting an AtomExec is like wanting a hole in my head. Tat tells you I am an early adapter and don't mind to pay for something I like. Its screen is smaller and darker screen than I would like. But the built quality and size is perfect for my taste. I also bought a custom high capacity battery and a nice leather case for it. However, AtomExec freezes quite bit, not fast enough even with 520Mhz because I have to hang another language platform in it to use in China. The company hardly put out any updates. If they had responded to any question, the answer was usually "No' or "We have not planned for it." or similar. I am fairly sure non-geek phone users will go for iPhone. Geeks will go for HTC's more advance phones. Of course there will be some left for Atom's family.
My Kaiser has 3 meg pixel camera which can take a picture of a business card and put the name, phone numbers .... , company name into the contact book directly. When I am lost, I turn on its GPS and walk 10 Meters and I know whether I am on the right track. I have the entire China map in it. It supports 8G microSD card and I put hours of MP3 in it. Its bluetooth support stereo.
Scrolling command dial, many hardware buttons, screen is bright, response is quick, good size storage memory. Qualcom 400Mhz CPU has dual-core, an ARM9 and ARM6 built-in. Plus, important for some folks, ton's of fans keep making it to have better and better features or looks.
Yes, there is something I don't like about it. It does not have an infrared port. Integrated mini plug does not allow charging and listening music at the same time while sitting at a desk (need to get a 3rd party adapter RMB25) and I don't need the sliding keyboard.
-------------------
There are only two guys, wonderful people in AtomExec circle who dedicated their time putting out two near-final WM6 ROM's but all other HTC phones have more ROM's than you want to count.
Again, if Atom V has the Kaiser hardware, I won't mind go for it immediately. But with its middle of the road hardware and past customers supporting records, unless its price are low enough, I would wait...
It is just my 2 cents, I respect your feeling toward your Atom!

For a confessed tecno person a liitle bit upset you are trading in old currency and such a low denomination like your opinon should be worth at least a 1930's penny's value also like new technology...
if the atom v comes in at $835 (as have seen) it is cheap with the specs as i paid $1200 AUD for the original atom ... but will upgrade after seeing the short list of Atom V, the zinc II & touch cruise but from there who knows... might be happy like your mate in 5 years saying .. nah, why upgrade it does all i want it to do ... then you can roll your eyes at our buying for needs mentality and say get with the program ...

palah, everyone has his own opinion, but most of what jychan28 said is right. I am an O2 Atom user since Atom. However, O2 has a lousy after sales service. I am stuck up with Atom Exec at the moment (cause I spent my last cent on it ) and now waiting for good times to change this to an HTC device most probably Tytn-II or Touch Cruise and good riddance from O2.

Agree 100%... like yours my williness to buy again was based on own experience so after two good (not perfect) 02 products so will consider another... if i had your experience would more than likely feel similar... but also be aware HTC, 02, MWg, Nokia etc etc all produce dogs every now and then...
although the aotmV so beautiful ,i do not change the exec until it die~hehe
I would say yes, it is a downgrade in terms of speed and rom size on the Atrom V, but what about the hi-price paid for HTC devices. Also you can always expand it using sd cards, and personally i never like choking up the internal memory.
There are reviews on the Atom V already. And a video review on the 3D/Video performance.
If you ask me after watching the video, I'd rather trust the Atom V over the Touch Cruise.

Orange have offered this as DMR for HD.. What to do?

Hi.
I have been offered a TG01 as a DMR for the Touch HD
I know little about the TG01.. so I would like input from your guys.
Anyone gone from a Touch HD to one?
Does it support Line 1 / Line 2?
Upgrade is avail to official 6.5
How are the cooked roms performing?
How does Tomtom behave with the acceleromter?
Performance?
Playback?
DLNA?
Network playback?
Built in Divx handling?
I also hear that you can plug in a USB stick and have that readable from the phone? if so, can you playback video from it?
Any info on this phone would be good...
Thanks Guys

Anyone gone from a Touch HD to one?
i went from diamond to tg01, good change
Does it support Line 1 / Line 2?
if you mean 2 sim cards then no, if you mean 2 numbers on one sim card, im not sure
Upgrade is avail to official 6.5?
yep, through toshiba website but try the cooked roms for a the newest build of 6.5.5 (much better performance and features and less ugly
How are the cooked roms performing?
as above, there doing really well, nokser is working on a project with lesscro for a truly nice looking rom, aragon has got some nice roms out with manilla sense for the 'oooh' factor and no doubt, many others will be popping up
How does Tomtom behave with the acceleromter?
wouldnt know but it works with the built-in gps if you use gpsgate with it. do a search for it
Performance?
its a 1ghz phone! its nippy, but not on the stock rom, to much bloat for it. i highly suggest using aragons 6.5.5 rom with manilla to see the best performance/stability. and games are brilliant on the massive screen
Playback?
i have watched whole films in divx and xvid with coreplayer and it has the best performance, hardly any dropped frames and it plays back silky smooth
audio is good with aragons rom, not so good on stock rom
DLNA?
no it cant sequence dna?
Network playback?
if you mena local play then im not sure as i have not used that feature, but online play is fine, youtube is a treat
Built in Divx handling?
yes but its through coreplayer, it hasnt got a dedicated divx app. it wil lplay most audio and video codecs available, and for the ones it misses, you can just install them.
and yes, you can plug in a usb stick and use it to watch films from, but this will kill your battery. you can also plug in a keyboard and mouse, other phones as mass storage devices, on youtube they have a tg01 being used as a babyscan machine ( i forget what there called) with a usb wand
its a kick ass little (lol) phone
im quite interested in this as i am getting a new handset offered to me on saturday when phone them back up and tell them my phone is messing me around again. i have a tg01 so it would be interesting to see what they offer me? any thoughts?
Thanks...
I think i need to know people who have moved from a HD to this... or what would a HD owner do>?
Would you move to a TG01 if your HD was buggered,
PS... If you have a fault on your HD right now with Orange.. they are out of stock...so they give you a TG01
The TG01 has the same spec has the HTC HD2, just the screen is resistive and .2 of an inch smaller (it is still pretty huge at 4.1").
Ive used the memory stick with it and you can play video using it, but you then cant use headphones as it doesnt have a 3.5mm jack. It needs the adaptor for the micro usb port. It is supplied with an 8GB microSD card anyway, so you can store quite a few on there.
Also custom ROMs can now be flashed to the TG01, Im personally running Novembres R2 6.5.5 ROM with SPB Mobile Shell on top and it is quick as hell. I would say go for it mate!
Say no to tg.
Till date am using tg01, flashed as many roms possible but am not satisfied with this piece, stay away go ffor x10 or hd2 or blacckstone. tg01 is a flop be careful. supposed to get lainched in india but didnt work ouut. wait u will get iphone 4g by another two months.
I did, the phone is a pile of you know what, I'm getting my 3rd one tomorrow, keyboards are unresponsive when texting, the speaker distorts when in a call, Not happy, stay away...
I was given a TG01 as a replacement for my ailing TouchHD (BlackStone). There are *always* advantages and disadvantages to ANY handset you might choose, so research and see which is best FOR YOU.
For me - it was really 50/50 - advantages of big screen, fast CPU etc, were put off by terrible battery life, and awful stock ROM.
The poster who writes about awful audio quality, this is greatly improved in newer ROMs, although, honestly, it's still not impressive, and I think this is a limitation of the audio hardware (speaker and amp) built in.
The biggest two negative issues for me were battery life, and the single micro-USB plug for EVERYTHING. Others say it's too thin and too big - it does feel somewhat like it will snap if you inadvertently leave it in your back pocket.
Do I regret handing in my TouchHD, to get a TG01? No. I think it was a good move, and with all the cooked ROMs coming up now, thanks to all the guys working on them, I think the TG01 is about ready for a rebirth.
To concede with another poster though, to get the best from it, as it stands NOW, you'd need to be looking at one of the 6.5.5 ROMs available.
As a final aside, if you search around on here, you'll see that the 8GB MicroSD that Tosh send with the handset is, quite literally, TOSH. It's useless, and causes many problems. If I were you, I'd keep the one from your Touch HD. I did!!
Ok - that wasn't the FINAL aside - this one is: if Orange send you the TG01 as a replacement for your faulty TouchHD, you will only get it in a little bag. You will get the essential accessories (USB Cable, USB Host, Charger, Stylus, CD) - but you do NOT get any retail packaging.
Right, I'm done.

Does the HTC Hero has enought performance?

HI at all HTC Hero users.
ATM i use a htc touch pro, it is nice but i want to change to android, because there are a lot off nice apllications, and the ports for the touch pro are too laggy, eat too much battery etc.
So i want a nice android device.
I have a question for you:
Does the HTC Hero has enought power for android (at this moment)?
For me, the following things are important:
1. applications (navigation system or other GPS-programs; and other apps work without problems)
2. games like angry birds; paper toss ect work without a workaround: just install from the market and play
I know that dualcore-devices will come next month but i need this phone for some games(like explained), listen to music, surf a little bit on web and use applications like gps sport etc.
I also do not want 4.0" devices, 3,2" is perfect for me.
So my question is: does the HTC Hero has enought power(with the right rom and overclocked to 691-729MHZ) for my use?
Thanks for your answers,

Google Navigation works okay for me, sometimes slightly slow and the latest version of angry birds is laggy but Paper Toss works relatively well.
Honestly, at this stage I wouldn't recommend it unless you're on a really tight budget. Even then, a phone such as the ZTE Blade which has a high res 3.5 inch screen is under £100, if you want a HTC then go for a Legend which has decent enough performance.
the simple answer is no. In the current android climate, the hero doesn't cut it. I still think its a great sized phone, cant agree more with you on that one, but its processor, no matter how overclocked, doesn't come close to even the cpu of the original droid, never mind the snapdragons, or the future dual core cpus. The hero doesn't have a dedicated graphics chipset, so you can wave goodbye to angry birds, and all but the simplest android games. The hero is only capable of openGLS 1.1 (I think?) and most phones and games nowadays use openGLS 2
GPS... Well, for me it's been a largely poor experience. The hero's battery is poor at best under heavyish use, so you will have to have a charger to hand for GPS. and even then, it runs hot, and isn't the best experience ever (UI lag). Others may have faired better in this department though.
So no, I would never recommend buying a hero now. Its been a great phone for the time I've had it, and I'll be sad to see it go, but at the same time I really can't wait to embrace a more powerful, capable android phone as soon as my contract runs out.
Thanks for the fast answers.
It wasn't the answer, i wanted to hear... but i am happy to hear it from you, than to feel it after buying this device.
The Blade isn't my phone because the software development isn't as big as i like. I want some tweaked devices, with good hardware.
Because i buyed an Acer Neotouch S200 (same hardware like the HD2) but it wasn't as good as the HD2: bad GPS, no good software, quite bad.
So i need to wait for the dual-cores to get a nice andoird experience?
For me it is important:- i want to listen to music(stream radio/ mp3)
- use a fast GPS-programm to navigate and to do sport
- use applications like : rss, kcal counter etc...
- the phone need to be handy (no 4" display)
- play some games not the newest ones like quake2/3 , just little games for freetime
big thanks to you,

Maybe you could look at the Original Desire then? Screen is 3.7 inch but it would suit all your needs, plus it's going to get Gingerbread so I think there will be development on it for another year. I don't think it's too expensive now either.
Good luck with whatever you choose to buy.
Wait for Wildfire S. It has more RAM and faster CPU and its a bit smaller

+1 here
My biggest gripe with the Hero is it's performance. When android was fresh and fairly simple and with not too many demanding apps it was fine, just. Now though it is like running that computer you bought ages ago, where it runs the OS ok, but once you do stuff it kinda feels a bit sluggish. OK if you don't push it but you'll always be wanting more.
I'm personally looking forward to something more snappier in the summer when my contract is due.

my tg01 for sale

this phone has no future its been stuck on wm6.5 that just doesnt work on this phone has too many bugs etc or wp7 whats totally usless on tg01 nothing works propperly and is just a usless phone for daily usage.
wm6.5 is dead and even the original orange rom for this phone is buggy and aftar usage it drops to like 40mb free ram.
mirom 8 cfc is the best so far but still has lots of bugs and makes using the phone horrible.
android well theres no android haha
wp7, no camera, sms dont work propperly, no accelerometer, browser is for multitouch so the double tap to zoom is not too good, iff battery goes too low phone does not charge,
general problems,
with all tg01 phones not just mine,
screen does not always turn on when pressing power button lags to turn screen on sometimes, anoying if wanting to do something quick.
accelerometer on this phone is usless for gaming because it does not work or lags that need htc sensor what most games need,
random hangs resets at times,
extremely bad for texting on,
poor battery life,
apparently theres 265mb of ram haha what the f*ck haha id believe it if they said 165mb free ram but 256 they must be on drugs or something as i have about 60mb free ram with nothing running and about 30mb free when using web :/
i cant be botherd going on now
boxed with all extra, usb, usb host cable thing, charger, 4gb mem card, rubber case, all other **** all fully working il take £30 for it.
Is it unlocked via IMEI? How often does it crash?
BTW: The power button thing. You may find that pressing another button (like the camera button) makes the screen wake.
its on orange but i will unlock it if any 1 wants it
...and the crashing? How often? Is this is like crashing once a day, once a week etc? Does it crash frequently on the stock orange ROM?
its just a normal buggy tg01 a pain in the arse on all roms
Well, I'm interested, just not till last day of month (pay day lol).

Hi jonny. I can not agree that this phone is horrible as You mentioned.
I do not know what people are doing with it every day, but for me as a person who
every day :
- do some calls, sms, mms
- use internet connection directly ( Opera ) or indirectly ( TG01 as a USB or bluetooth modem )
- from time to time use different GPS navigation software both for car and pedestrian and do some photos,
it simply works perfect. Mentioned resets are in my opinion due to either some damages in Your unit or bad rom. On the other hand maybe I do not use my phone too heavy to detects problems You are talking about.
For me as a software developer WM is the best even though it is dead as You mentioned. None android, never.

I should have to echo the above sentiments. I use the TG01 all the time for all appropriate tasks from voice, SMS, music and video player, camera occasionally, weather info D/L on tap, internet (IE) .... the list goes on. Yes, occasionally there is a need to soft reset but it is occasionally and nothing toget excited about. But I have refined my WM6.5 ROM to a point where it fits like a glove to what I want it to do and I have no particular inclination to go in the direction of WM&. I just don't like the GUI and in particular, the inability to tweak to my tastes. So, just like I ran the old e830 on WM2003SE right up to a couple of years ago and then made the 'plunge' to WM6.5 (big step!) I shall probably stick with a very useable WM6.5 for a long time and until such time as there is a worthy successor which will give me the same capabilities.....
Best regards,
Kevin
Hi Kevin.
I can only agree with You. Somewhere in the past I wrote that only
reason for me to change smartphone ( tg01 with WM6.5 ) will be its physical death.
So let my tg01 live long time

reason for me to change smartphone ( tg01 with WM6.5 ) will be its physical death.
So let my tg01 live long time

As mine did die at my own hands (WP7 upgrade went bad) and then I completely totalled it so it won't even power on eek!).. so I do need a new one.
I would like to buy it (Even though I have a LG Optimus 2X, I found the GPS more reliable on the TG01, and I like to record my cycle rides to and from work)
ive sold it got a htc titan now
lol ok
Surprised you didn't an an HTC EVO 3D given the deal on at ASDA.

Jonny doesn't like Android
I was quite tempted at getting the EVO...
It's a reasonable upgrade from my Desire S, but I don't think its enough ..

Know what you mean... I'm only tempted to swap to it for the reasonable screen res 960*540 and the 1gig RAM on it, and for £229 that is damn good.
But... this is the problem.. I do want something that is better, but tegra 3 stuff is gonna be mega expensive :-(

Yeah I agree!
A major turn off for me is the 3D screen aswell, as the bulky design.
Had it been a Sensation, this would have tempted me more! (Even though its got 3/4 of this RAM)
For me, the EVO3D from Desire S, i only get a speed upgrade, bigger higher resolution display , better camera.
Everything else is more or less the same as my Desire S with the same UI.
I can tell you, HTC Android devices are fantastic, they really are much better than any other UI with Sense
I also saw your a regular GPS user, HTC provide great integration with their Location App. (Based on TomTom)
You should try one out! It may be a huge jump for from your 2X.
Did you get the 2X for £199 at Amazon by the way?

awww jhony how's your baby titan doin'? I am stuck with andoid for now, crashed screen on sgs2 and got DHD but not so much downgrade, as for EVO 3D oly dude thats not so big update for that kind of money. Sensation ok but EVO 3D is a epic fail so as optimus 3D, thats why sammy didn't want a 3D cellphone.
EDIT: by the way i sold my tg01 for 150 euros

Nice! Yeah, the 3D part really turned me off!
I'm very interested in the new One X series now
