Droid X Multitouch Keyboard - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

The Droid X Multitouch keyboard has been hacked and modded for the Evo4G, can someone please create a version for the Dell Streak with the same attributes??

I tried to install the HTC_IME but there is no keyboard setting in the settings menu, how do you change keyboards on 1.6?

Settings => Locale & text => Enable your keyboard.
While inputing text, long press on input box and select "Input Method" to change keyboard.

As far as I know, we can't use multi-touch until we get android 2 or better. So says the blurb for smart keyboard pro, anyway.
Just another reason we are all dying for 2.2!

I don't know if that is accurate... how else could you use pinch to zoom then?? Even though it is 1.6, Dell has enabled this device with multitouch. I don't have my Streak yet... can one of you current owners download the apk from the EVO 4G thread and install to verify?? I'm dying to know if this works or not!!

True - multi-touch does work in certain apps such as the browser, but it does not work in Maps or any 3rd party app I have installed. In Android's wikipedia page, in the changelog for 2.0/2.1, it lists:
MotionEvent class enhanced to track multi-touch events
I've concluded that Dell must have included multi-touch support in their version of the browser... somehow!

Its like the SE Xperia X10, most apps aren't multi touch but its activated in Browsing and Mapping I believe, as least we know it works so when 2.2 / 2.1 comes everything should pinch to zoom.

Did you get this working? If so, could you upload the apk file for me? The default keyboard is terrible
thanks man

We need 2.0+ for multitouch. The only reason it works for the browser is because dell has specifically included support for the browser.
Turning on word suggestions helps the default keyboard loads.

ahhhh i forgot about that
I found that out when trying to play old skool emulators (snes, nes etc)...a quick fix for that was to hookup the wiimote
Ach well...such a pain in the arse having to wait for dell to get an update...one month gone and it feels like three

I see what you guys are saying about multi touch, but there is only one way to find out... load the Droid X keyboard onto the Streak!! I am attaching the apk for the keyboard mod that was made for the Evo 4g, it has the color change to green from red... it functions great on the Evo, and has now been ported to the Nexus 1. If one of you can install it and see if it works... then we will know for sure. For further instruction on how to load the keyboard once installed... there is a article on StreakSmart on how to properly do it.

Don't forget that multi touch also works in the picture and video app... in pinch to zoom form.

hello I tried to install it tells me unable to install on your handheld keyboards, I have the root of modaco (but not complete as he says) even got the version build 6267

Also tried on rooted 3562. Unable to install multitouch keyboard.

i'm running cyanogenmod 6 nightly's on my evo. has anybody figured out how to get this keyboard to work on froyo? i miss it.

fantastic

Streak 2.1 + Droid X keyboard
i just updated my Streak to 2.1 and i tried the droid x multitouch keyboard im happy to say it works now. the previous 1.6 would crash during when u try to call up the keyboard. however due to the resolution differences the Keyboard buttons take up the Whole screen...

Yeah, I dont like it. Smart keyboard works better for a multitouch keyboard.

[REQ] Stock 1.6 Keyboard for 2.2 ROM

After flashing to 2.1 I really dislike the keyboard it came with and miss the stock 1.6 one.
I would donate several beers to anyone willing to port the 1.6 keyboard to my 2.1 device.
Which one does XDA members prefer?
EDIT:
After giving it some thought, my main gripe with the new 2.1 keyboard is no arrows (left and right mostly) and no num pad. Also you have to go into the number area to access the question mark.
EDIT2:
Cypher84 posted a keyboard in another thread linking to a Droid X multitouch keyboard. Look no further, this is the best of the best functionality wise:

I would add several beers too !
tbh I'm struggling with my limited knowledge of android to see why it's not working..
I've run the 1.6 with the ddms debugger running, it's segfaulting, but I really can't see why it's doing it.
I look forward to this tweak too as I miss the arrow buttons on the 2.1 keyboard. My fingers are a little too big to place the cursor where I want in text fields.

Bump... ...
Has anybody got the 1.6 keyboard working with 2.1 yet?
The official 2.1 update comes out here in the UK on Wednesday and the new keyboard looks terrible.
Would also like to mention that I would also love the 1.6 keyboard for 2.1

For 2.2, what keyboard options are available?

edit, as I was typing this I noticed I do have the Multi Touch keyboard option. I thought it was just HTC IME mod, but are there other keyboard alternatives floating around for 2.2?
There's Kaos' Froyo version of the Droid X Multi-touch Keyboard, which you are talking about. There is Swype, there is HTC IME keyboard, and there is a dozen other keyboards on the market. Also, the stock Android keyboard is there as well.
There is also TouchPal. I find this to be tbe best keyboard for portrait mode.

Any in 2.1 work in 2.2.

[Q] Keyboard from Android 2.3

Has anyone tried this on the Atrix yet? How is it? Is the autocorrect still the same as the original keyboard?
here's a thread with a GB-kB that you can install alongside the stock keyboard, and it has the autocorrect fixed to work like the original.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875202
installed the gbkb-en.apk on mine and it works but because of the higher resolution the keys look a little small for my liking

Get gingerbread keyboard on galaxy s II

I just got my galaxy s 2 today n beim using it fr a few hours. Came from the nexus one n im missing pure android feel to apps.
I also cant seem to figure out how to get the dictionary working on the samsung keyboard or swype n i seem to miss the old keyboard layout too.

Gingerbread keyboard:
Search for "Keyboard from Android 2.3" in the Market.
is it reliable though? do you know from where i can get the actual one?the official one?
Sorry can't test it, my S2 is still on its way :-(
But I read about it and afaik it's ok.
I don't know if there is an "official" gingerbread keyboard for the S2, I think the one in the market is the best you can get.
Don't sue me if it's not true - This is just based on my little research
I have the CM7 keyboard as I much prefer it thanks to the long press delay option that the normal 2.3 KB does not have.
Just pull the apk from the CM7 ROM zip and install using the SGS file manager, simples

found it..but ended up using the Keyboard for Android 2.3 from the market because the keys in that are bigger!
Do you find that you don't get the dictionary come up in the email program though? It works in Handcent SMS, but not in email for me... (when using the market GB Keyboard I mean)

Hi
I don't think it is an official version rather it should be a mod version. I am using it for the last one week from the time i had S II and it works fine for me.

I installed the CM7 KB but I can't get the haptic feedback to work.
How did you manage this?
when i installed the CM7 keyboard, when i switch to landscape it cuts off the area where you would normally see the typed words, this is not good.
any way to shrink down the size, or get rid of the line with the extra characters?

[Q] HDMI Mirroring for 4.5.91?

Anyone know if a mod is being developed for 4.5.91 for landscape and portrait?

portrait is easily enabled by enabling hdmi.mirror to true in build.prop, landscape is still not available.
Does HDMI mirroring result in a higher framerate than using the WebTop with the on-screen phone maximized? I assume it would.
Hope we get landscape soon.

I hope so too, Ive been looking forward to using it.
somebody know hdmi mirroring landscape. to work on Atrix 4g AT&T 2.3.4 Rom 4.5.91 ???
alguno sabe si anda en Atrix AT&T 2.3.4 Rom 4.5.91 ??
Yes, The DarkSide ROM had it working just fine. I know I've seen other posts about using separate apk's to get it working, but that is the only one that has it baked into the interface and working out of the box.
