Froyo soon? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Check it out. http://twitter.com/SamsungFirmware

Thsts good news cant eait just picked this bad boy up and cant eait to put froyo on it

It's not a final release. Looks like it's some sort of alpha build that was leaked.
Most probably full of glitches. I'll wait for the final OTA update.

so tomorrow we should all have froyo?

No, it just means that Europe has Android 2.2! Not N.A. yet. =[

I intend to wait for an OTA update to 2.2. I would honestly recommend everyone else do the same as well. I am sure the firmware might be safe but you never know what else could be on it. Either way, if 2.2 is actually this close, this is great news to hear.
I am sure everyone here is smart enough to realize that is not an official samsung twitter account. You can just easily tell from the terrible avatar and named used yet alone the url of the site they link to is actually hosted at the free hosting service Webs.

I agree with above. I wouldn't jump the gun on this one just yet.

its not An official Blog or Site.......
And For Samsung to provide an update this Quick would be a miracle. so Im not buying it and im sure once the clock hits 12, you can either Flame me or Thank me for not putting your Hopes up)))))))))))

hopefully soon enough!

Agreed. I'll believe it when I see it.

That twitter account is so full of $hit.
It said the linpack score was 14.6, that is insanely low for froyo and the specs of the Vibrant. It should be around 40. Hell stock eclair is 8.4 or so.
Put NO FAITH IN THIS TWITTER ACCOUNT.

Froyo is comming to i9000

I have no idea. But, this site does seem to have all firmwares. Euro only though so it seems.
I havent seen any stock firmwares for the US versions. So *shrug* I dont believe it.

Yeah, the Nexus One running Froyo gets a Linpack score of 37.
The Galaxy S devices will score higher due to their better processor.
So, a Linpack score of around 14? Lies.

This website has been around for a while now, and they do alot of work in EU so odds are it is real, and france said it was going to realease a froyo update in sept for sure, so this is just a RC1 or something, I have been flashing beta's all my smartphone owning days...so i will most likely do a nandroid and flash this froyo even if it's pre-alpha...weeeee!!!! sounds fun! as long as i don't have to use odin..and i can just reflash my nandroid save...i'm good

And then when you put into perspective the amount of indy java VM writing companys that might come around and do crazy speed ups to java with custom build dalvik java virtual machines it even more excite..but they won't release them to the general public and i don't think big companies are gunna bite..i hope google just like them and buys them whoever they are..

I agree with the earlier post...if this build reaches no more than 14 Mflops...I'd be willing to bet it is nothing more than one of the previous galaxy roms with spoofed info and just the frozen eclair files built in. Because as it stands that will get you from 12 to 14 Mflops. Real froyo on the vibrant should put out more than 14 Mflops, even if it is a test build or not, I'd be willing to say. But we will find out pretty soon I guess...

2.2 official update from samsung

Does anyone know when the official froyo release from Samsung is coming out to north America?
on a Samsung Galaxy S.
He's new he doesn't know.
at OP; Try not to post these kinds of threads because people here can get pissed off EASILY.
a Froyo 2.2 update is unknown for us currently, but most people suggest you use a custom ROM after rooting since we already have Froyo on here.
Hey, at least he didn't ask in the Developer sections! To me, thats a complete win!
In addition to what xriderx66 said, you can also find Tmobile and Samsung on Twitter and can ask the question directly from the source.
I wouldn't put much stock in it since according to one of their posts from earlier in the year, they now only have 5 days left to get Froyo to carriers.
Truthfully though, it's anyones guess if/when it's actually going to happen & I"m sure even Samsung doesn't even have a clue.
Since we have some decent leaked ROMs, I'd prefer for them to just drop froyo completely and get Ginerbread working since it has some improvements that will help the Hummingbird processor (as seen by the performance of the Nexus S).
At the very least if they started working on it, we'd eventually get some leaked Gingerbread ROMs

one reason I THINK that theres a BIG delay in the froyo update is JIT optimization for hummingbird. since google already optimized JIT in 2.3, i'm figuring Sammy could be finding a way to make it backwards compatible with their touchwiz froyo.
OR
samsung tweaking the froyo update for tmobiles approval
as far as having froyo by the end of the year, i would LOVE to be shown an official samsung document that actually says US carriers will have froyo before years end. the only thing i've seen does not mention Tmobile US Vibrant specifically.
Guys, sorry for the question. Ill make sure not to post anything before reading posts LOL. For those who responded to the topic, thank you! That's what I thought about the update, I'm almost selling my vibrant and maybe go with something else like the mytouch 4g or the nexus s.

i SUGGEST you stick with vibrant the only thing wrong with it is the GPS(works for most people now anyways theres a fix) and the update, which there ARE custom roms.
but if you MUST get a new phone, get a nexus S.
the mytouch is just.. horrible.
Thanks for the advice. My phone is rooted, but I don't have a custom rom installed. What 2.2 rom do you suggest?
on a Samsung Galaxy S.
Nero V3 is a very good and stable ROM imho. They are all very good in their own way, but I loving Nero right now!
here's a better question:
why does it take the manufacturers months and months for any form of update, while developers here release something new daily?

Because theirs goes through tests, go through carriers, and usually has about no major bugs.
The devs use roms made by The manufacturers...
Don't make fun of manufacturers their the reason your phone exists.

Wither Froyo-Sense?

I know several guys were chuggin' away on their Froyo-Sense ROMs for a bit but that seems to have hit a roadblock with Wi-Fi or Camera or something else.
Is this going to be worked on. I love my GingerTazz for sure, but I'd like to have a sense-based 2.2 rom for my wife's Eris when she finally gets fed-up and relents and lets me Root hers.
I am hereby requesting a re-initiation of work on Froyo-Sense!
Thanks!

We'll be happy to let you work at the same labor rate as all the other devs here; when can you start? LOL
Just put GSB (or any other Gingerbread ROM) on her phone, I'm not entirely sure why you would want bloated 2.2 (compared to 2.3 2.2 is slow, at least to me) and I can only imagine how much Sense slows it down. If it's just that she likes Sense, try and transition her to Launcher Pro and Fancy Widgets/Beautiful Widgets.
How about we just skip ahead and release a GingerSense rom before HTC does?
Doesn't matter, 2.4 is coming in april and everyone will leave 2.3 behind as well

The trick here is to give her something that she's already familiar with. I don't mind futzing around with new roms and actually enjoy it. She was even very hesitant to upgrading from 1.5 as it was. Sure, GingerSense sounds great!
I am in no way a developer nor do I aspire to be. I'm most grateful to all the work that has and is being done for our great little Erii.
Don't take my original post as demanding, I just wanted to stir the water a bit on froyo sense. Sorry if it came across as such.

[Q] CM9 for the Legend?

Hi
anybody knows if there will be a CM 9 for Legend or is it not capable of running due to low RAM and ROM
It is capable to run it, but no one is going to port it. CM dropped support.
alright...well i guess it is understandable.. it is after all not a very high powered phone albeit it was qutie expensive...
Thx...time to upgrade
I can't wait!!
from http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cm9-progress-update
Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One.

Click to collapse
HTC Legend has Qualcomm MSM7227, which is older than QSD8250 (the first Snapdragon) stated in the quote above. It's unlikely that Legend will get CM9.
@Mangosharp ผมไม่คิดว่า CM9 สำหรับ Legend จะมาเร็ว ๆ นี้นะครับ ... อาจจะไม่มาเลยด้วย
PS. MSM7x30 stated in the link above is not the same as other MSM7000-based SoC. It's a Snapdragon series SoC. Don't let the name fool you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3FSomVYrr0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Although we may not have the backing of the CM team, we can always hope for this. Although I personally will not. I'm happy with Gingerbread and although I can imagine ICS running quite smoothly on our Legend (in comparison to the Hero), maybe it's time to settle and switch.

ICS on our Legends
Well, I'm not quite sure what to think atm. Ali Ba, the official maintainer of CM Legend port stated in his blog that he already compiled ICS!
It's about 100 megs zipped, 140 on system, no problem for the Legend.
Reading the official cm post with dropping all older devices from continued support is totally the opposite direction.
I strongly believe that we will see ICS on our Legends sooner or later, maybe not as a CM release but I expect Ali Ba to finish a ROM.
Ali Ba never said all these.... (any source with you) . ??

I believe in Ali Ba !!! Our legend might not be powerful but afterall it has decent processor and can be overclocked to around 800mhz, which i think can flawlessly run ics for everyday use... it has been shown in gingerbread custom roms today plus our xda devs are getting smarter every day lol.. anyway i do believe Ali Ba will release an ICS custom rom for our device, if its not cyano.. it would be sumthin else sooner or later and ICS will also be released in otherel phones, that makes the chance higher for the dev to compare codes and built one for us i believe in Ali Ba !!!

Who's going to port ..? You ??
Well getting ICS compiled for the device does not necessarily mean it could run on the device. All of us can get the ICS code from Google and build the image ourselves, but it's far from having the actual thing run on the device.
We could get the image, flash it to the device, and have another nice legendary paperweight (well at least in the worst case). Who knows ?
I'm getting the AOSP code since last night (it's horribly 6GB of code), just for the sake of studying how system applications are written (you don't really need it, anyway). If I have some spare time, I might try to build one.
Hello, still it would be nice to have port, b'cause I like my Legend. ICS on Samsung galaxy tab looks very nice.

[Q] asop or stock gb

anyone working on a stock gb or asop rom for this device?
I use go launcher and it is a lot better than the samsung touchwiz default launcher. the other samsung touchwiz items do not bother me
That actually has nothing to do with what the thread was created for.

Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
I doubt anyone will bother with AOSP GB, most people seem to be waiting to do ICS roms, which is what this device should have come with anyway.
Most will be waiting to dev ics? That's honestly the most bs answer I've ever received on this site in my life. That's like saying they are going to develop yellow snow in hell but waiting for it to snow....

Assume what you will, but if I were a developer and I had any inkling that an OS update was on the horizon for the phone I'm using, I'd probably opt to not develop for an OS that will be obsolete, since it's likely that no one would even use the ROM once ICS is out.
In other words, if I were a developer, I'd wait for ICS too.

Rom devs need source code to work from.
Alot of what you see going on right now is piddly because without source code, not much can be done (based on my limited understanding of how this all works).
Not to discount the one or two roms out there now, its a good start but Samsung needs to give up the goods.

I honestly wish someone would put out a cm7 version for our notes to gives us something better than stock at least until ics comes out, not saying that saurom and tpc aren't nice and trust me I'm pretty happy with saurom rom in my note, but coming from my htc hd2 that had dozens of roms to choose from , and coming from cm9 before I got my note , kinda leaves me hoping for just a bit more rom developing that we have at the moment, if I didnt work 50+ hours a week and had kids to take care of I would take a crack at my own rom but just don't have the time for that level of development.

Could very well be... I assume Samsung wants to seem like they care for the customers.
SAM did say in their announcement that they "had known about this issue for some time"...this could be an update they had in the pipeline and didnt release because of an upcoming JB release.
Is there anybody else that can try to see if the update is available to them?
Got the update. Menus are a bit different and SW Ver is now 5 instead of 4. Guess that means the radio firmware was upgraded too. Neat.
Here are the updated release notes for this build: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00047325&fm_seq=51324
Wonder if this has NFC enabled (doubt it) or if it will be easier to use the NFC enabler from the ported section since the 4.0.3 version wasn't working. Fiancee wants to tension as close to stick add possible, but wants NFC to beam stuff, lol

Think I found a small glitch in the weather display on the lock screen. It don't usually get that hot down here until at least February.
