[Q] CM9 for the Legend? - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
anybody knows if there will be a CM 9 for Legend or is it not capable of running due to low RAM and ROM

It is capable to run it, but no one is going to port it. CM dropped support.

alright...well i guess it is understandable.. it is after all not a very high powered phone albeit it was qutie expensive...
Thx...time to upgrade

I can't wait!!

Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One.

HTC Legend has Qualcomm MSM7227, which is older than QSD8250 (the first Snapdragon) stated in the quote above. It's unlikely that Legend will get CM9.
@Mangosharp ผมไม่คิดว่า CM9 สำหรับ Legend จะมาเร็ว ๆ นี้นะครับ ... อาจจะไม่มาเลยด้วย
PS. MSM7x30 stated in the link above is not the same as other MSM7000-based SoC. It's a Snapdragon series SoC. Don't let the name fool you.

Although we may not have the backing of the CM team, we can always hope for this. Although I personally will not. I'm happy with Gingerbread and although I can imagine ICS running quite smoothly on our Legend (in comparison to the Hero), maybe it's time to settle and switch.

ICS on our Legends
Well, I'm not quite sure what to think atm. Ali Ba, the official maintainer of CM Legend port stated in his blog that he already compiled ICS!
It's about 100 megs zipped, 140 on system, no problem for the Legend.
Reading the official cm post with dropping all older devices from continued support is totally the opposite direction.
I strongly believe that we will see ICS on our Legends sooner or later, maybe not as a CM release but I expect Ali Ba to finish a ROM.

Ali Ba never said all these.... (any source with you) . ??

First of all thank you for kind and very polite answer.
The source can be found here http://derhofbauer.at/blog/ but after reading the post you provided and noticing it's newer, I think the time to switch has arrived.

Thats not the android way... Legend will evenctually get ICS...

I believe in Ali Ba !!! Our legend might not be powerful but afterall it has decent processor and can be overclocked to around 800mhz, which i think can flawlessly run ics for everyday use... it has been shown in gingerbread custom roms today plus our xda devs are getting smarter every day lol.. anyway i do believe Ali Ba will release an ICS custom rom for our device, if its not cyano.. it would be sumthin else sooner or later and ICS will also be released in otherel phones, that makes the chance higher for the dev to compare codes and built one for us i believe in Ali Ba !!!

Who's going to port ..? You ??

Well getting ICS compiled for the device does not necessarily mean it could run on the device. All of us can get the ICS code from Google and build the image ourselves, but it's far from having the actual thing run on the device.
We could get the image, flash it to the device, and have another nice legendary paperweight (well at least in the worst case). Who knows ?
I'm getting the AOSP code since last night (it's horribly 6GB of code), just for the sake of studying how system applications are written (you don't really need it, anyway). If I have some spare time, I might try to build one.

Hello, still it would be nice to have port, b'cause I like my Legend. ICS on Samsung galaxy tab looks very nice.

Froyo soon?

Check it out. http://twitter.com/SamsungFirmware
Thsts good news cant eait just picked this bad boy up and cant eait to put froyo on it
It's not a final release. Looks like it's some sort of alpha build that was leaked.
Most probably full of glitches. I'll wait for the final OTA update.
so tomorrow we should all have froyo?
No, it just means that Europe has Android 2.2! Not N.A. yet. =[
I intend to wait for an OTA update to 2.2. I would honestly recommend everyone else do the same as well. I am sure the firmware might be safe but you never know what else could be on it. Either way, if 2.2 is actually this close, this is great news to hear.
I am sure everyone here is smart enough to realize that is not an official samsung twitter account. You can just easily tell from the terrible avatar and named used yet alone the url of the site they link to is actually hosted at the free hosting service Webs.
I agree with above. I wouldn't jump the gun on this one just yet.
its not An official Blog or Site.......
And For Samsung to provide an update this Quick would be a miracle. so Im not buying it and im sure once the clock hits 12, you can either Flame me or Thank me for not putting your Hopes up)))))))))))
hopefully soon enough!

Agreed. I'll believe it when I see it.
That twitter account is so full of $hit.
It said the linpack score was 14.6, that is insanely low for froyo and the specs of the Vibrant. It should be around 40. Hell stock eclair is 8.4 or so.
Put NO FAITH IN THIS TWITTER ACCOUNT.

I havent seen any stock firmwares for the US versions. So *shrug* I dont believe it.
Yeah, the Nexus One running Froyo gets a Linpack score of 37.
The Galaxy S devices will score higher due to their better processor.
So, a Linpack score of around 14? Lies.

This website has been around for a while now, and they do alot of work in EU so odds are it is real, and france said it was going to realease a froyo update in sept for sure, so this is just a RC1 or something, I have been flashing beta's all my smartphone owning days...so i will most likely do a nandroid and flash this froyo even if it's pre-alpha...weeeee!!!! sounds fun! as long as i don't have to use odin..and i can just reflash my nandroid save...i'm good

And then when you put into perspective the amount of indy java VM writing companys that might come around and do crazy speed ups to java with custom build dalvik java virtual machines it even more excite..but they won't release them to the general public and i don't think big companies are gunna bite..i hope google just like them and buys them whoever they are..
I agree with the earlier post...if this build reaches no more than 14 Mflops...I'd be willing to bet it is nothing more than one of the previous galaxy roms with spoofed info and just the frozen eclair files built in. Because as it stands that will get you from 12 to 14 Mflops. Real froyo on the vibrant should put out more than 14 Mflops, even if it is a test build or not, I'd be willing to say. But we will find out pretty soon I guess...

LAST MINUTE UPDATE: It seems like we got official support! It hasn't been confirmed as far as I know but let's hope it is.
Link here!
I suggest keeping this commemorate the time we got official support after so much rooting for it! (Get it? ROOTING. Haha. )
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now, the only one porting CM7 to the SGA is Grif_07's CM7 RC1. The ones that aren't using CM7 should check it out and help the developing of this awesome port. As of right now and based on CMStats, there are 6,646 users and counting using Grif_07 RC1. Although I don't know if that's counting BehradGH CM7 RC2 users, but he stopped porting since he sold his SGA. Anyhow, if anyone knows the requirements to be included into the official stable releases let me know. I'm doing everything I can to get the developers attention, but if you guys help me I know we can do it.
Before I do anything, I would like the forum's input. I can support a blog with the progress of Grif_07's CM7 port and then contact several mobile review sites asking for coverage in the matter. The thread containing's Grif_07 would be included along with the blog. I think that way we could attract attention. What do you guys think?
As of October 25th, we need:
A banner representing the Campaign. If anyone has Photoshop, GIMP, Paint, Ilustrator skills, now would be the time to use them. -EmoBoiix3 already volunteered, anyone else is welcomed.
And quoting Baracs, the following to the CM7 rom:
Baracs said:
Actually not true - one of the major prerequisite of the CM7 is the ability to OC the kernal - although ketut has done a valiant effort in trying to do this it is buggy as hell.
Also the core rom must conform exactly to the CM7 standards otherwise the nightlies will not work. Has anyone tried installing a nightly yet - no because there is none.

Well mate i'm also buying Galaxy Ace on day of Diwali. And i'm fully agree with you. Galaxy Ace is a great phone. Better than Wildfire which is having official CM builds. So it's a nice idea to have a stable release for us of CM 7 port ROM's.
me to in this campain we want cm7 official support if htc wildfire can get motorola defy and quinch can get why not our SGA
Yeaa ! Even the sony xperia minis get cm7 . Go SGA !
Can I do the GIMP thingy ?
But I have to warn you , I got 32.7/100 for my Art
Great idea! Please support this great phone. The performance improved alot after i installed the CM7 port from BehradGH, having an official port from the Devs of CM7 is a must.

why not bro...... and its not for getting marks its for getting cm7 official...........go for it
sounds good! i totally support this movement. when i installed grif's CM port, i had a noticable boost in performance with my phone. hope the SGA gets an official CM7 port
This is no different from an official port. We'll need the official port probably just as a status, it helps us get popularity with developers.

[DISCUSSION] Cyanogenmod 9 (Android 4.0.1)

This is the discussion-thread for Cyanogenmod 9.
You can ask your questions here to keep the dev-thread clean
i dont know much about android, so if this is a stupid question, im sorry
andy said that hw acceleration currenty isnt possible because of missing drivers and files (mentioned here). wouldn't we also need these files for hw acceleration in cm9 to work (if so where would we get these files)? or does cm9 already have these files?
This build will have the same problems as Phoenix-Android ICS,
we need to solve quite some things, but we are working on it.
I thought the GPU is not working? In fact, ALL the phones with Aderno 200 unable to get the HW Acceralation working...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
you can imitate hw acceleration by routing 3D events through the hwcomposer module
to the framebuffer/copybit/gralloc - but, it makes no sense because you have to OC the
phone to almost 800Mhz to get a smooth ui. users here know about the fact of "run the cpu on the limit".
its very unstable and shortens the cpu/device life time...

So, no way to get the HW acceleration without the fixed and update drivers, right? And if you never find them, we never see ICS on our phone?
Updated drivers will eventually appear, but looking for other solutions in the meantime.
So is there a rom released yet for the optimus v? I have seen one for samsung galaxy nexus with a alpha version of cyanogen mod 9 somewhere on here.
I doubt there will be a fully functional release of ics for p500 and v devices for atleast a year by then 5.0 will be out and we would have all upgraded our phones. There are a lot of issues around performance of the ics ui on the p500, and i have seen this in early ported alpha roms.
Isn't that the reason there is alpha roms? To hammer out any issues there are and to help out those developing them in finding any issues the roms may have?

i was just gonna say that
not to mention that those roms are ports. here we are talking about building from source.
really the main problem with performance is the lack of hw acceleration, but as _Arjen_ said, the missing drivers/files will appear eventually.
have some faith in our developers
I have full faith in the developers here. As all roms I have used so far flashed over perfectly fine and never bricked my phone at all. Just I found a stock rom and got the black screen once but I found the kernel that fixed that. But I will await for this to be released it will be great to have the latest android on my phone instead of 2 versions down because of googles mess up of not making the bumblebee release open source.

anyone working on a stock gb or asop rom for this device?

I doubt anyone will bother with AOSP GB, most people seem to be waiting to do ICS roms, which is what this device should have come with anyway.
Most will be waiting to dev ics? That's honestly the most bs answer I've ever received on this site in my life. That's like saying they are going to develop yellow snow in hell but waiting for it to snow....

Assume what you will, but if I were a developer and I had any inkling that an OS update was on the horizon for the phone I'm using, I'd probably opt to not develop for an OS that will be obsolete, since it's likely that no one would even use the ROM once ICS is out.
In other words, if I were a developer, I'd wait for ICS too.

Rom devs need source code to work from.
Alot of what you see going on right now is piddly because without source code, not much can be done (based on my limited understanding of how this all works).
Not to discount the one or two roms out there now, its a good start but Samsung needs to give up the goods.

I honestly wish someone would put out a cm7 version for our notes to gives us something better than stock at least until ics comes out, not saying that saurom and tpc aren't nice and trust me I'm pretty happy with saurom rom in my note, but coming from my htc hd2 that had dozens of roms to choose from , and coming from cm9 before I got my note , kinda leaves me hoping for just a bit more rom developing that we have at the moment, if I didnt work 50+ hours a week and had kids to take care of I would take a crack at my own rom but just don't have the time for that level of development.

How is the development? Might trade for my HTC One X.

Right now the HTC one x development is pretty slow, and while I do have a great ROM I always love getting new devices and flashing new ROMs. I love having a lot of ROMs to cater to my flash addiction. Is this phones development going to last awhile? I know there will be a new note that will come up soon, and I don't want to be left behind. Has anybody don't this switch? Or has anybody played with body devices and can give some pros and cons? Thanks!

thinking that the note will be around for a while....It has a large following, and good Dev support, not only on stock roms, but AOSP-AOKP as well.
We are just getting our feet wet on the note.
And the note 2 will bring ported content back for us also, including the X....
I'm staying here.....g
The development on the note is fantastic (JellyBean is 99% bug-free with h0tw1r3's CM10 kang and we have CM9, MIUI, Paranoid Android, AOKP and many other ROMs actively under development.

Greg hit the mark with his reply, the note is a unique beast externally but all of Samsungs high end lte line of phones are fundamentally the same internally. This bodes well for an extended development cycle.
One quick question about the HTC One X. Samsung has been pretty good with source code releases, what is the current experience with HTC? Do you find them forth coming with source code and drivers. If that has been the case, what other factor(s) do you think could account for the HTCs One X lackluster rom development?
The hardware your phone carries is high end, impressive specs; I would have thought developers were all over it.

Also curious about the HTC One X -- those are going cheap right now at least in my area, might need a good beater for those small-pocket days. Screen size is OK after using a Note, anybody?

We waited about 2 months to finally get a source code released. During this time period all members of the HOX community were sending ATT emails and constantly bombing their facebook mostly for the fact that our Bootloader was locked, and HTC stated they will provide official Bootloader unlocks on every phone they will release. Well HTC still hasn't kept up their promise and for new comers it's very hard to join the dev community because with the recent update there is no bootloader or root exploit. With the recent source code release I would like to think that development would be booming but I'm completely wrong. The code we got released wasn't even a full source code, but instead half. And to make matters worse it's already outdated, because the source that was released was 4.0.3 and we are on 4.0.4 now. The only bugs that we have been able to fix with the source code is Multi-touch on AOKP roms (thank god it really borked gaming on this device :good: ) We have one kernel that is released but it's not able to be used on a lot of ROM's because it's set on the old base, but everybody is on 4.0.4 now. The dev's are really working hard on making this phone the best they can, but HTC is making it very very difficult. The international version has a lot of dev support because of how powerful this phone can be. But I guess ATT is behind keeping back the updated source and an official BL unlock which makes me mad
The phone itself though is great. The screen is spectacular and I'd even go as far to say it's the best I've seen on a mobile device. The processor is very quick, and when I did have it overclocked to 2.1 ghz it reacted very well and I still got excellent battery life. My average battery life right now is about 3 hours of screen on time. I'm on CM9 ATM because it's the best vanilla experience we have. Hopefully that answers all your questions guys!
