SDE for gen 8 released (Updated) - Gen8 Android Development

Updated 2010-12-15. SDE now released
For ARCHOS Generation 8 devices only:
Important notices to be acknowledged before downloading and installing the SDE firmware:
* Once the SDE firmware is installed on a device, this device will be watermarked and ARCHOS will be able to detect that this firmware has been installed once.
* Installing the SDE firmware is considered by ARCHOS as a voiding of the warranty and ARCHOS declines all liability and responsibility for any issues resulting from the installation of this SDE firmware.
* ARCHOS strongly advises that only experts in embedded software development should install this firmware.
* This firmware is provided "as is" and is not supported by ARCHOS.
The SDE firmware MUST be installed using the recovery menu. The recovery is triggered by powering on the device while pressing the 'volume down' button (or 3 consecutive short press on the power button for the A28). In order to install the new firmware, the "Update firmware" option needs to be selected by navigating up and down the items with the 'volume up' and 'volume down' buttons and then executing the selection with a short press on the power button. Once in this mode, the device can be connected to a PC and will act as a mass storage device where the .aos firmware file can be uploaded. Once this step is done, press on the power button again to launch the installation process. Once the SDE firmware is installed, powering on the device while pressing the 'volume down' button will now trigger a "Boot Menu". This menu allows to select which Operating System is to be launched (Android, the newly installed Developer Edition or the Recovery System). If the device is powered on while pressing jointly the 'volume down' and the 'volume up' buttons, the Developer Edition will be launched. If the device is powered on without any other button pressed, Android will be launched. Installing a new legacy (Android) ARCHOS firmware WILL NOT remove the SDE firmware. In order to uninstall the SDE, boot into the recovery using the Boot Menu, select "Developer Edition Menu", then "Uninstall Developer Edition".

sooo... warranty is void as a whole or just in the software part...

Mm, funny part is that it link to the same aos file as the archos gen 7... so be careful as they probably have not have updated the link? I doubt both use the same SDE firmware, but I could be wrong.

so if your display backlight breaks, it doesn't matter as it didn't break because of the SDE

Aah, my misstake! Did never check the actual file, only read the text. Took for granted it was the correct file. But hopefully it will be released very soon then if the text is there.

I'll get some tea

They like to taunt us. Probably laughing at the moment at us for waiting so impatiently.
Really looking forward to using the entire 8GB as app storage as well... 300MB is kinda ridiculously low.

Remarks:
These SDE firmwares do not contain any of the legacy ARCHOS multimedia software. It is based on the Ångström distribution ... The modifications applied on top of the Ångström distribution is available here.

Delivery of the first batch of the Pandora started May 2010 and is still ongoing. Yes, finally, the system is real!
And yes, the Pandora is running an OpenSource OS: it's basically Ångström-Linux with some Pandora-specific changes. The source code is here: (git[dot]openpandora[dot]org).

that would be sweet if someone would be able to port open pandora´s linux to our gen8s. coz there´s a ****load of emulators (including n64, psx, dosbox) for it and is running an cortex A8 like us

There's also the issue that pandora get that nice thumbsticks and keys. Solely controlling games that are not made for touch screen by touch is going to hurt the experience some.

multiboot
update of the official firmware
great
i wait this : Coming soon

I changed the title, seemed like i was to quick for Archos

DRM
Anybody else notice that it doesn't say that it removes DRM keys? I am assuming that if it doesn't say that it does, then it doesn't right

I think that it might be possible that a 3rd party sellers' gurantee would not be affected by installing the SDE as it would be legally independant from archos' own warranty. I'm not sure though and I certainly wouldn't want to have to try it out myself.

but they are hopefully faster than the ones we currently have + n64oid isn´t out yet and this is still in development + new psx4droid v2 does not seem to run any game that 1.7 was able to.
EDIT:
psx4droid v2 seems to have problems with compressed roms.
.z compression does not work but eboot does

[Q] nvflash original firmware

Is anyone working on a way to use nvflash to go back to an original firmware (like what was available for many tegra 2 devices)?
The reason I ask is I have a prime that won't boot but is apparently stuck in APX mode. It shows up in my windows device manager as APX. No matter what button combination / time press combination I try, I can't get it to boot. It came this way out of the box, it never once has booted. The charge LED's in the power button work and I can feel it vibe when I hold the power button for a few sec. I also get a long vibe after holding the power button for 10 or 15 sec. Sometimes it shows up in the device manager as MTP device, but I can't get it to take the asus drivers. I always get an error saying the device could not be started.
It looks like there is a nvflash that supports tegra 3 floating around (but only for linux) and the official firmwares are available on the asus website. I have never used nvflash and don't have linux installed, but I'm going to try booting off an ubuntu live CD and see what I can figure out.
look in the Prime Android developement section. answers to your questions are in there as people working on that right now. there's a thread on what u mentioned.

You don't need to be so hostile, this is a friendly forum.
I've seen the thread in the dev section on nvflash. After page 2 the whole thread devolved into people rambling about trying to brute force the encryption key for the bootloader. The only person who had the linux build of nvflash that had tegra 3 support was already pm'd before posting here. Since that thread fell apart into people trying to figure out a way around the encryption key, I figured I'd ask if anyone was looking into flashing original firmware and not modified or rootable firmware. Since I had nothing to contribute yet, I put it in general and not in development.
The part I didn't understand is if flashing an original ASUS firmware was not possible with bootloader encryption.

Ok, well that is part I wasn't aware of. I wasn't sure if the it was similar to my HTC devices that had locked bootloaders but could be flashed with official firmwares using a zip on the SD. I realized the nvflash method was entirely different but I didn't know if the firmwares that asus provides on their site had the key in them and were possibly usable. But it sounds like that isn't the case.

Move the unlock section to after the flash 757 section
.532 is the onlt firmware that has a root exploit, use the one that is linked in my downgrade thread, will work on all versions of the ZU locked and unlocked
Root with binaries tool - use option 0 or use [NUT]'s tool (see
my downgrade thread again)
That's it for now, will have a close read soon...
Thanks - @blueether -
Updated thread.
You can probably remove the section about the camera as that was a Z1 issue, not affecting the ZU
I am glad to at least see you guys trying to put everything into one thread.
This is still a huge amount of instructions for a newbie and any reduction would be great but at least having what you currently have put into one thread is still a major improvement.
Good going guys and thank you very much!

Great! We got one process shortened.
I am neither a programmer nor a hacker but I will try to contribute what I can for a "Rooting Xperia For Dummies" guide.
The next suggestion is actually lengthier but may make a scared newbie feel more safe since it comes from the Google Play Store.

why not change that to download an app from the "safety" of the Google Play Store?

It appears to be a good app that works better than always dialing code for someone who plans to access the service menu regularly anyway.

I wasn't criticizing anyone in the post that you quoted. I was just explaining what I believe needs to be done.
I have posted in more than one thread that I don't have any tech skills to make contributions in that regard. The goal of simplifying and streamlining the root process for the public is going to take someone with developer skills that I simply do not have. I don't know the first thing about Linux and know nothing about writing Windows batch files. How much more humility regarding my tech skills do you want?
I get it. You guys are content with just doing rooting for yourselves and could care less about how OEMs mistreat their own customers let alone give empowerment back to the public or even stymie development to a degree that rivals Microsoft for that matter. If anything, I have seen more sympathy towards OEMs and patronization towards the public posted on this site.
I won't bother you guys any longer nor will I attempt rooting my phone with instructions on how to root and unroot all over the place in many threads with the lack of support being what it is on this site.
Have fun continuing to live in your own world indifferent to the rest of it. No wonder the rest of the world doesn't like nerds. At least I figured that one out after all these years so it wasn't a complete waste of time coming here.

meh
Lordmanhattan and I, and a couple of others that dont post so much now have put hundreds of hours in to help others, bring all the info into a couple of threads.
If someone has a problem with the process and has not just "how do I root my ZU" we (the general users of this section) will go out of our way to help.
I feel that having all the info in one post if counter productive, it becomes too much to read, too easy to lose you way - foss mantra: small tools to do small jobs => small guides to do small steps
The process is not that difficult, but there are many permutations of what the user is starting with and what they want to end up with.
Again: If they ask an intelligent question in the guide threads they will get a concise answer, if they open a new thread with the same question that has been answered 100 times before they will get a shot answer that they may not like.
The process is not overly broken, people just need to be less self entitled, not everything in life is as simple as they are
Could not enter Recovery after flashing 757 kernel
Thanks for your helpful post.
I just have a problem at step 25 (Go to Recovery) under ROOT 14.3.A.0.757. Everything was fine until I attempted to enter Recovery mode to install SuperSU. After flashing the 757.img kernel, I disconnected the cable, pressed power button, and hold volume down (I also tried volume up) button when the Sony logo appeared on the screen. But my phone just kept booting to Home Screen.
I was wondering if anyone had had the same problem? If so, please help me to fix this.
Thank you in advance.
Update: I managed to enter Recovery mode by pressing both volume up and volume down after pressing the power button. Everything is fine now. Thanks again for a very clear and complete step-by-step guide for a Noob like me.

Hi blueether. Thank you for your link. I would like to ask you a question. My ZU firmware version is .290. Should I update to 757 then downgrade to 532, root and back-up the TA partition. Or should I just upgrade from .290 to 532, root and back-up the TA partition. Which do you think is the best way? Thank you.

@ OP This is the porblem with yet another guide thread about rooting the ZU...
As of 4 or 5 days ago you dont have to down grade at all. With the thread I linked to you can root any of the current Sony firmware I think (untested, but 767 will root).
I would:
upgrade to the latest 4.4.2, Sony's x.x.x.767 FTF
root with the tools linked to in that thread
back up TA
unlock BL if wanted/needed

looking for how to root Vodafone Smart Prime 6 (vf - v895n) too
it was released a couple of weeks ago.

How to ROOT with the KingRoot method:
1 - Enable USB Debugging and Allow Unknown Sources.
2 - Turn off phone. Boot by pressing Power + Volume UP to enter stock recovery.
3 - Select English, then "Write Protect Switch" and choose "Set write protect off". A message should show up saying "write protect is off after reboot". Choose "cancel" and "reboot system now".

Does rooting enable network unlock?
Don't really want to root if I don't have to, and the common unlockers on fleabay have all said they can't unlock, hence now looking at rooting.
Any "decent" recommendations for unlockers that work, within a decent timeframe (9-10 days and I'd have to send the phone to, I was quoted by one!!)!
Thanks all

I dont think that possible for now, you need root, custom recovery and xposed installer.

How to upgrade Lumia 920 to Windows 10 Mobile (OS build 10.0.14393.103)

After spending a total of about 4-5 hours (including download times on my internet connection), I finally managed to get my Lumia 920 on the Windows Insider Fast ring for the latest Windows 10 Mobile builds. It's a tedious process, and requires at least 40GB of free space. The tools you will need are WPInternals, a backup of the Windows Phone 8.1 .ffu for your specific model just in case (I would say this is optional, although I can't guarantee this will work in the future), a Windows 7/8/10 computer, USB cable, and This rom by werty100. I have tested this only on the AT&T RM-820, although since I have ran RM-821 roms and firmware on my device it should hopefully work for other 920 variants.
*DISCLAIMER* Your warranty is now void if you modify your phone. I'm not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed.
Make sure you have an unlocked bootloader using WPInternals. Download and flash the Windows 10 10.0.10586.36 rom I linked earlier in the post, and follow this post here on how to get it to properly boot. Feel free to set it up and sign into your accounts, get all the apps downloaded that you wish. Afterwards, use WPInternals to boot your phone into Mass Storage mode. While that's booting to mass storage, open up Regedit.exe on your computer.
Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in Regedit, then go to File --> Load Hive. Select SYSTEM from the path of E:\Windows\system32\config. Name it something like Phone_System. The path might differ from the letter E. Open Phone_System --> Platform --> DeviceTargetingInfo. Click on the file of PhoneManufacturerModelName, and change it to: RM-1085_113025. Next change PhoneModelName from Lumia 920 to Lumia 950. Lastly, edit PhoneHardwareVariant and change it to RM-1085. Click on Phone_system again, go to File --> Unload Hive.
Next hold the Volume Down and Power button simultaneously until you see the Nokia splash screen. Wait for it to boot, launch Windows Insider and select Insider Fast, and reboot and then check for updates. It should download everything properly, take about 30 minutes once it goes to install and then will reboot. The screen may go black here and there while booting but don't worry, it will boot fine. Congrats, you are on the latest build! It may be a tiny bit buggy at first but after using it for an hour or so everything will be very smooth.
*UPDATE*
Updates are still rolling in smoothly. The other day it updated to 10.0.14393.103. Hopefully this workaround keeps working for a while!
Thanks bro, W10 runs far better than 8.1, sadly, I'm on 10.0.14393.351 and Bluetooth is not working, it's greyed out, I don't know what to do to get it working again, worth mentioning that I used the 830 model and RM, I don't know if that caused the issue
still it works
as of 14955.1000 it still works. thanks.

Good to hear that it's still working. I haven't updated too recently
Hey, I have tried but when I was unlocking bootloader in windows phone internals the process stopped during "Switching to Emergency Download mode". Now my Lumia 920 wont react to hard or soft restart. When I plug it to the pc it do the "noise" that it is connected but I cant see it and the phone doesnt react. Can I fix this somehow please?
Just want to thanks it works and runs really good on my 920 - Windows 10 Version 1607 Build 10.0.14959.1000
will definitely try this when i have free time! I want to ask something though, if anything goes wrong during the flash process, how can i fix that problem? Can i use Windows device recovery tool?

got my 920 in mass storage mode but i cant figure out the regedit part, when i select load hive which file am i supposed to open?
Does this process irreversible ?
What about rootability using this version?
PS Awesome work!
Or is that a stupid question? I ask because I'd like to upgrade my 920 to win 10.0.14* while keeping the possibility of changing a few files (mostly the hosts file) and then to unroot & relock for security. Would that be possible?

I personally don't know for sure on that. I'm mainly an Android user and I don't have much experience with WP devices other than my old Lumia 520 and my Lumia 920 .-.

No. You can flash the backup stock .ffu file if you want to roll back to WP8.1

I was mainly an Android user but I didn't have the time available anymore to deal with custom ROMs to keep my devices secure & privacy-enabled. It seems that the time has come to do get into ROMs for WP10
Thanks anyway for answering! If I find out more I'll post back.
Hi, can you please specify how to reflash to original soft? Everytime I try Windows Device Recovery tool I get "failed" message during the process, and my phone is stuck in red flash mode. Thanks
Also fails when trying to flash FFU in WP Internals
Nevermind, there was probably some error on my side, restarted phone and PC few times, tried again and again, and it worked after few tries.
Performance?
So what exactly are the performance issues? And which W10M version are you running?

My L920 has Windows 10 on it (10586 IIRC). To get the latest release on there, what are the steps? Do I need to go back to Windows 8.1? Thanks*in advance for any help.

Is EACHLINK H6 died? brick?

Hi,
I tried to root the device. I couldn't get past the opening screen. Digital clock and indicators in front was working. Then, I installed software that does not belong to the product and the situation has deteriorated. Now the opening screen is not coming. The digital clock or indicators in front do not work. When the device is connected to the computer, the computer is seeing the device as an unknown device. Do you think there's anything to do with this device?
I tried to install the software with the application called Phoneixusbpro. The setup is not completing, giving error after progressing up to 72%.
The device When connected to PC, device's name is "USB Device(VID_1f3a_PID_efe8)"
product features:
GPU: Mali-T720
System: Android 7.0
CPU: Allwinner H6
Core: Quad Core

So you’re saying it fails? Reboot your PC and try again. You can also try to run the Phoenix software as an administrator.

Yes .. I have manage to brick the box by installing last google play and store. On reset the box has all led up and logo on screen for indefinite time. I download image from the russian website and follow the instruction. I didn't have the usb/usb cable first, didn't know.
The box work even better now, in 4k 60k 10b is very very responsive, I did several tests and it seems that is't very sluggish if is not in native mode resolution. I install last google play and store thru luckypacker and everything works really really great after few tweaks like clean startup and cpu in performance mode.
The remote is dead on the other hand, and occasionally become unresponsive with many app working.
