Thanks my A70 has gone from being nearly unusable to being great again.

voice search 2.0.1 seems to make it work on my device (but very laggy)

Recommended GPS for DCD Rom (XV6800)

I just installed the latest DCD Rom, and so far it is excellent. Which GPS program are you guys running?
I particularly like Google Maps and Microsoft Live Search for just general playing, but those don't talk to you and give directions.
For that, I don't think there are any free options.
I downloaded the free Nav4All from here: http://www.nav4all.com It's apparently an older program, but does have turn-by-turn and voice. It took a while, but now it sees my internal GPS. I haven't tried it on a trip yet though.
Personally I like iGuidance best, text-to-speech and easiest to get around and use. My wife has a tom tom and i just installed it to try, no text-to-speech, cant move the map around without going through several clicks to get to "browse map," although you can change the voice and get cool voices, but id rather have the other stuff. The bad about iGuidance, it takes a little to get it to work on here and its not as smooth as it was with my BT GPS, still have to ry tom tom to compare.
EDIT: so i went out and used tom tom, nice. worked a little smoother than iGuidance and liked the graphics but I really missed the TTS. Hopefully iGuidance can put out a fix fo the com port issue

How did you make (assist) it in finding the internal GPS. It keeps failing on me.

You have to have a program such as google maps running in the backround with gps active. Nav4All doesn't look for the internal gps automatically which is dumb as hell.
I'm using TomTom. Doesn't use data like Qoogle Maps and Live Search do.
I am using Odyssey Mobile with great results. They give you a fourteen day trial so far no problem.

I am using the trial version of Odyssey Mobile as well. It seems to be working, is accurate, and is cheap.

TomTom most certainly does have speech...but it is not set by default. You must select a voice (make sure to install some if you didn't already) and then it will speak all turns and alerts to you.

Those are pre-recorded voices.
What we're discussing is voice synthesis, where the app actually READS THE STREET NAMES.
Example: "Turn left at ramp to sunrise highway in 300 feet" instead of "Turn left in 300 feet"
Make navigating much easier to follow!
On that note, I use the excellent (and sadly discontinued) Mapopolis. Its nothing to look at, but reads text and can see the internal gps.

Its the TTS as Dishe said, makes driving so much better, never knew id miss it till i tried it without it. hopefully iGuidance will have a better work around soon...maybe once there is an official sprint release
Ditto on Odyssey Mobile! Great program and easy to use. Like the graphics and speech!
When I downloaded and installed, it said 3 day trial period, however the Website stated it was a 14 day trial period! Hmmm... Guess I'll find out which it is...
but odyssey is still pre-recorded voice, isn't it?
I tried that nav4all thing... gawd that's terrible. worst UI I've ever seen. Its free, but totally not worth it. Better off using Google maps and skipping the turn-by-turn updates entirely.
Odyssey looks nice, and is resonably priced, but the reviews I read on it placed as a middle of the road app. Price aside, there's no advantage to it over Tom Tom. If only mapopolis were still in business... no one appreciated how ahead of their time that app was!
I've had nothing but problems with the Odyssey. Failed install, locks up, black screen. Works one out of every ten tries. When it did work it was pretty sweet though. Only reason I keep trying.

i especially like that yoda gives me my directions and encouragement with the force now if i could just find mr t's voice!

NimBuzz on HTC Tattoo

I've installed Nimbuzz on Tattoo and can tell you that the phone works perfectly. I can use chat and also make a phone call without any problems through Skype. It's a great application.

Google Voice Working?

Does anyone have Google Voice working, or should we wait for the 3.1 update?
Thanks!!
Google Voice doesn't work. I even tried a modified apk from the Xoom.
I don't recall where I got it from, but there is a version out there that works pretty well. I'm pretty sure got it from another thread on this forum, so try searching and you should find it. It is kinda dated, it doesn't support the push notifications for text messages (so fastest you'll get texts is every 5 minutes), but it works.

I've had no luck finding this version. Does the Gtab need rooted for it to work?
I think this is the file that I have installed right now: htt p:// db . tt / T3Svb4A (sorry, not enough posts to post the full link, just remove the spaces). Let me know if that one doesn't work and I'll do a direct pull from my device. And no root is needed.

Groove IP works on gingerbread, can anyone confirm that it works on the tab/honeycomb?
Fyi groove IP allows for voice calls from a tab using your Google voice number.
I copied the Google Voice APK from my Nexus S to my LE Galaxy Tab 10.1, and it installed and ran without any of the configuration file trickery described in other posts. Neither device is rooted.

Are you able to make calls or just text? My texting works fine, but still need GrooveIP to make calls.

That will always be true for any WiFi device. The official Google Voice app is not a SIP client. You need some other SIP client like SipDroid, CSipSimple, SipAgent or GrooveIP.
I got Google Voice working by using Titanium Backup. I used the backup files from my SGS4G. It Took a while for the batch operation to finish but it worked! No calls for the time being though. Texting is great though!
Latest Version
Here's the latest version from my Infuse. Supposed to be easier on your battery.
Also, GrooVe IP is on sale at Amazon. $1.99 vs. the regular $3.99. http://www.amazon.com/snrb-Labs-GrooVe-IP/dp/B004Z1P53W/ref=zg_bs_mobile-apps_1

yes u can make and receive calls. all you need is Groove IP which is a paid app worth all the money. install the app, follow the setup, and start making and receiving phone calls with your google voice number. no root needed!!! yes u need to b on wifi
I noticed if you text on a wifi only device with google voice you dont get the text instantly, you have to wait for google voice app to refresh which its lowest setting is 5 minutes.
Is there anyway to get texting instantly?

I have setting up as English(us), whatever I say, the result always is "mmm"
I have try recording voice at Webos, it is OK, but not working at android !
Have you tried voice search on another device? Reason I ask is last year I had issues with voice search returning jibberish when I used it, problem was with the voice data they collected getting screwed up online. If voice search fails on another device that's most likely the cause. You can clear the data in your Google account.
i think i might have misunderstood you. I use the actual google voice app for texting and I can search fine. there is another app call Voice Search which is completely different.
In any case, Voice Search app does not recognize that I say.

Good to hear that I am not alone !
have you try using "Sound Recorder" app from Alpha 3, It is not working for me as well, the sound record got abnormal playback. the sound record only work on WebOS ! Sad.....
Google voice search from the market does not work for me either, but.... the mic button on smart keyboard pro does work. It works pretty good, especially if you talk directly into the top of the touchpad where the mic is. Just thought I'd let you guys know. FWIW the voice recording app ALSO works for me. it sounds a bit muffled, but it does record and playback legibly.
