Build.prop LCD Density request - EVO Shift 4G Themes and Apps

Ok guys, so I've edited the build.prop files on both the stock and WarmSense ROMs to change the LCD setting to 160, which works, but @ the expense of having many HTC apps FC (mail, calculator, people, bookmarks). Phone, messaging and internet work fine, but I'd like to edit the file without losing any of the others.
Any thoughts? The only change being made is to the LCD setting.

Try going into spare parts and disabling compatibility mode. That works in aosp roms, though not sure on sense core apps, etc.

Was a no go. I'd really just like to push the stock android contacts.apk but can't get it to install. 3rd party apps are fine for calc, mail and clock so those aren't a priority. But contacts are...lol

[Q] Better CM7 Dialer?

I don't know about all of you, but the default Blur dialer is roughly 10,000,000 times better than WyContacts that is packaged with CM7. I can't stand the piece of crap anymore. It doesn't allow you to tap a number and have it pull in the dialer so it can be modified, the contact integration is wonky, the favorites list is shoddy... basically I hate it if you can't tell.
Is there a way to either get the stock Dialer from Gingerbread (from the n1 or ns), the Blur dialer, or some other dialer that supports the same feature set as the default or Blur ones?
Help?

Thanks, I guess. I thought it would be inferred I have already been searching around and not found a good alternative, else I wouldn't have bothered posting
Use go dialler in combination with go contacts, I'm sure you'll like it.

Thanks, this one seems to be the closest one available. It's only missing the "Recommended" Favorites. However, where most of these dialers are only 60% of what I want, Go Dialer is more like 80% what I want. None of the other free ones on the Market are very good at all.

Go Dialer is indeed great! but the problem is that missed calls are generated and not cleared unless explicitly swiped or cleared with button.

SMS App Suggestions

I used to use Handcent quite some time ago but found out that it was causing some problems with people receiving my messages and pictures. In addition, it started hanging and would generally slow down. Lastly I was told that it does not necessarily play nice with some other applications, namely LightFlow.
When I eventually put Eclipse on my DX2, I simply did not re-download Handcent and was just using the stock SMS until today, using CM7 and still, the stock SMS.
What does everyone else use, are there any decent alternatives to the stock SMS and if so, what makes it a better alternative?
All I've ever used is handcent, seems to be working nice for me, never used liteflow though.

I'm a huge fan of chompSMS. I've tried Handcent and GoSMS, but I always end up coming back to chomp. The only thing I wish they would add is the ability to multi-select message threads to delete, instead of having to do it one by one or deleting them all at once. I emailed them and suggested that and they responded that it was planned for an upcoming update, so maybe I'll get my wish.
I use GOsms. Works great for me.

I have used Metro Messaging Beta for a while. It was when I was going through my WP7 phase. lol. I actually liked it though. It didnt have any cool features (it was actually very limited) but with how simple it was, it was nice to use. I have recently just gone back to the stock sms app though. I also use SMS Popup so when I get a message, I dont even have to open the sms app.
I too, use GOsms. I like the customization and different themes it offers.
Just make sure to manually go into stock notifications and disable. Other wise you will get multi notifications at some point. It will ask you at setup to disable, but for some reason you will still have to manual disable through stock app.
You could always give it a go!

I like the customization of Handcent better, can change a lot of things for individual contacts in handcent.
I just delete the SMS/mms apk in every ROM and put handcent in system/app

So I guess it's +++++++1 for GO SMS. I use GO SMS on mine.
Ciao!
GoSMS here BUT the MMS sending on it is whack. I have it set up for 1.2 MB and preserve image resolution yet when I send a pic it'll degrade the picture image. This is for pics under 1.2MBs...
Any one use a different phone/call app besides the stock one?

GO SMS is what I use, I like how it pops up a window without you having to swipe notifications, and the overall customizability of it. As Elite49 said, you cant go over 1.2mb in size but it just let it shrink my photos to fit and it works just fine. Be sure to get all the plug in for it too, there are tons of themes and emotocons etc...

Does yours degrade the pics when their not over 1.2MB? I find it extremely annoying seeing a pic thats under that somehow look like crap when I go to send it.
Another vote for GO SMS here!

(Q) default phone/contacts

I was wanting to know the way to replace the system phone/contacts with rocketdial? I've tried this before,by deleting system phone and contacts thru TB but got tons of FCs.

you dont need to delete anything install app and then change phone and contact shortcuts icons in your home screen by the ones of the app
howver you can use system contacts if you want and after install the app if you go to a contact and press to make a call it will ask you wich dialer you want to use by definition you mark the box and choose app dialer and thats it...
i try it, before post sorry for my english but dont delete those apps from system the solution is right there.
just press thanks if i help you
Hi...
I am currently using Neko95 GingerSnap, and, since i tried MIUI, i loved the UI, i use ExDialer.
When i missed a call, the notification only disappear (automatic) if i open the stock app.
I Linked exdialer to ex partition of sd, rebooted and converted to sys app (Link2SD).
You still have the stock apps, but they are small...
The next thing that i will try, after consult the community if it works, is to, before flash, exchange the stock apps for the ones that i will use... (if someone that reads this can tell, please...)
With best regards, Shaib Lftg
Are you talking about extracting the rom than replace the phone and contacts apk with the dialer and contacts you plan on using ie...rocket dial and renaming it to phone.apk and vice versa

[Q] How to make home screen rotate without apps?

Hi there, I was wondering if there is any way to make the Blur home screen rotate without having to instal any third party apps.
Can someone help?
Basically, I wanted to make everything rotate to landscape, homescreen, phone, contacts, since some of those don't rotate unless you force it with third party apps.
Thanks in advance!
Does 3rd party apps also cover Nova Launcher? On settings I can get all screens to rotate.
From RAZR by Tapatalk
Maybe some dev could port some system apps from droid 4, as the actual screen resolution and hardware is more or less the same
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
Pretty sure you can edit your build.prop to do this...could be wrong.

Blur doesn't rotate and devs will probably not use this in a rom.

Found another app, the best one so far. I guess that the file we need should be in that app, but since I'm not a dev, i don't dare to try it.
The app is called Set Orientation, and it allows you to force auto orientation even on those apps that don't rotate, like homescreen and dialer.
The best of all, it's a free app.

Who has changed their DPI?

One of the first things I thought of when I got my phone was "wow, EVERYTHING is way too big". I tried shrinking icons and text, but still want happy with things like the system ui.
Once I had my phone rooted I dove into the build.prop file and changed from 480 to 320, and couldn't be happier! Naturally the launcher was jacked up, but Nova launcher fixed that. The only remaining annoyances are a few Samsung apps that don't scale properly, the phone, camera, calculator and I'm sure a few more I haven't noticed. I know there are multi-DPI apps available for the unlocked S4, but I didn't want to be the first to test them on Verizon.
If you've changed your DPI, what did you go with? Any problems? Have you tried the multi-DPI Samsung apps?

Use the xposed mod, should work just fine as it isn't phone dependent.
Just did this, amazing. My first thought too, this phone is for visually impaired! What are some other good values, if any, between 320 & 480?
I've tried exposed in the past on my GN (Toro) running AOKP and came away mostly disappointed. Fact is, I want EVERYTHING to be smaller, not just select apps. I really don't get Google's insistence on making the GUI elements so big, it's not like we're dealing with resistive screens any more. I wish they would just take advantage of the fact that android scales so well and allow anyone to change their DPI either device wide or per app, then they could make everything default to smaller with big only for old and/or blind people.

Change your dpi in build.prop and then use xposed to set the dpi to stock on apps that don't work/look right. Should only be a few.

Did you notice if changing the build.prop DPI screws up the play store? In the past some apps would become unavailable in the play store if you changed the default DPI.

So I actually have the framework installed from the Wallet fix, but where do I download the mod pack/apk to change the DPI? There is a reference thread with a .co.uk site but it is down.
Xposed app settings apk. Sorry. Google that. Dumb auto correct.

I have changed mine to 420 but i cant decide if i like it or not. Sometimes its cool making everything smaller and using that screen space but other times I am missing seeing larger icons and text, showing off that resolution in the more visible graphics. Hmmm... I also tried 320 before that and everything was very very small lol.
Plus I can't use the Xposed app to fix the now cut off Gallery/Phone app because I use 3Minit Framework and app instead..
