[Q] Orange CWR - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So it will not let me post in the development forums because I have to post 10 things in general questions and answers?...Retarded. Anyway my question is about the new CMR 3.0. I want to use the red one but when I flash it in Rom Manager it screws everything up. How do I get around flashing Clockwork in rom manager and just using what I already have. Also it gives me a download error everytime I try to flash an Alternate older recovery.

Don't flash things in rom manager for the fascinate. There are tons of problems that could use addressing. For now your best bet is to stick to CWM and Odin for your needs.

Why would you part this on the dev forums? This isn't related to the development you are along a question.
To answer your question the newer cwm recovery was ment to be installed via recovery menu or odin.
If you read the post in the dev forums you would now that jt recommend not using recovery manager on froyo.

Should I install ClockworkMod with TNTLite 4.4.0?

I was reading the thread on how to install TNTLite 4.4.0 and it recommends NOT installing CWM. However, from what I read on other threads, it seems like people still do it anyways.
In addition to this, I'm using a Mac and so lsusb and nvflash are not easily available to me.
So, should I still install CWM as a backup just in case anything happens?
Speaking of this, if I go into a bootloop, can't I just install a stock rom on an external sdcard, and then boot up the gtablet in recovery mode to load the stock mod from there? Could this be an alternative to having CWM installed?
[edit]
Oops, I clicked on submit too quickly before I was able to check the box to make this a question. Can a moderator please make this thread a question? thanks in advance!
Actually, TnTLite 4.3 and later come with CWM as part of the "Recovery Pack" which is a toolkit that allows you to toggle between stock and cwm easily. Check the first post in the TnTLite sticky thread.

[Q] custom rom question

ive been doing some reading and have some questions
1. is clockwork mandatory? id prefer to flash via odin.
2. can you recommend a touchwiz rom thats cleaned and based on the new ed01 source?
Well, Clockwork isn't absolutely mandatory, but the vast majority of ROMS/Kernels/Themes/etc. come packaged in .zip files which are meant to be flashed via CWM.
Odin uses .tar/.md5 files and is usually relegated to a more disaster recovery tool, or flashing items like a new radio. You CAN use Odin to flash ROMS, but you options can me more limited.
Here's a list of the most popular ROMS/Kernels/etc for the Fascinate:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013312
For Odin flashable ROMS, there's a great post at androidcentral.com:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-25-a.html
Hope this helps.
its the the red/green/orange cw that im not crazy over 9i may be reading something wrong
You definately want to use RED cwm for the fascinate. Orange does not play nice at all, since support for amend scripting was removed. (Almost all fascinate ROMS use this type for flashing) If you accidentally flashed Orange through ROM Manager, you can use this post to help you get back to red:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
Use either Odin (.tar file) or CWM (.zip file) to flash and you'll be back to red after manually booting into clockwork.
CWM really is much easier to flash, if for no other reason than not having to pull the case and battery off
havent flashed yet, just rooted, but i figured if vzw is dropping 2.2, i might as well do a custom.
just gotta decide
as i said im thinking clean, nonvoodoo. but i dont see an ed01, just an ec01
Pretty sure everybody will tell you ed01 and ec01 are the same, but I'm just going by the the general post on the matter.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
hhhmm then i guess what im waiting for now are restore files for ec01/ed01
or would older ones be ok?

[Q] Problems flashing Clockwork Recovery

So just to make it first stated, im no newb to this forum. i flash all the time. i just had my phone unbricked by Connexion2005 and the crew over at mobiletechvideos.com they did a fantastic job at restoring my vibrant to its previous luster. my problem now is i cannot find a way to flash clockwork recovery. ive downloaded rom manager from the market and tried flashing then rebooting to the recovery environment. but nogo. still on stock recovery. ive tried some of the older versions and none of them work either. what am i doing wrong? i also found others with the same issue in the clockwork thread in the dev section. someone shed some light for a fellow modder.

[Q] is there a simple way to move from one rom to another

hi i have litening 6.1 installed on my SGS2 but as litepro (litening's maker) has technically retired i am thinking of moving to CyanogenMod7, is there an easy way to do this, as i am totally new to all this.
thanks for looking in.

Yes, follow the installation guide that the ROM developer took the time to write for installing his/her ROM.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
After a little practice flashing new roms is like changing your t-shirt. I've found the instructions to be quite similar with most roms. Just double-check for specific variations and use paid backup tools. 15 mins to get completely up and running with a new rom if you're optimized.
Flash this kernel with ODin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
Then install it with CWM. Flash it twice or it won't work,.
sorry for putting it in the wrong section (newbie)
ive downloaded CWM from the market but will have to do some reading as its all foreign to me, is flashing a kernal just like flashing a rom using odin, only point it to the kernal?

You put it in PDA (it must be a .tar file, so don't extract it. If it is a zip file on't flash it through ODIN)
DO NOT check repartition.
After flashing the kernal I gave you, you will have a CWM version that is compatible with CM7 but you wil need root for this.

You don't need ODIN to flash subsequent kernels unless specified by their author/developer. The ones I've flashed have necessitated a cache wipe & a davlik cache wipe followed by an installation from the sd card & reboot. Done.
EDIT: don't listen to me if your question is specifically about kernels for use with CM7 because I haven't flashed that ROM but inevitably will end up there.
Don't let the jargon and nomenclature dampen your spirits. After my first flash things started to click. It seems like instructions for flashing roms and kernels are usually tailored for real power users who have quite a decent grasp of all the terminology and concept. I'm sure part of that is just the sheer frequency of these geniuses doing write-ups (that and the fact that many of them use English as a second language). But after actually using CWM and some of the tools referenced in these forums things just start to click.
I'm a pure noob myself but will be happy to lend any assistance where I can. After all I'll need much of the same courtesy.
anonomike, like you said because its all new to me its very daunting, especially when i read stories of people getting their phone stuck on a certain screen and bricking it. (ive read this is almost impossible) i will have a go at it later today, so everybody stay where you are (just in case )

Rom Manager Flashed wrong CWM recovery

Phone: Verizon Samsung Fascinate (sch-i500)
rooted using Odin and a guide on these forums specific to the phone
rom Manager flashed for Samsung GalaxyS i9000 recovery: 2.5.1.2
I need 3.0.0.8 (downloaded from the rom manager site)
1) Is this a problem?
2) the file I have (3.0.0.8 CWM recov) is a .zip, using Odin can I flash it as recovery. If so what button? (PDA was for rooting, I don't want to rush into things and do the same)
I plan on flashing a custom rom, but feel I need to fix my recovery mod FIRST.
If I can fix this with a kernal say so and I will find one.
P.S. I will not be paying for mobile odin, I would go back to stock or leave as is before putting out a penny to this phone.
edit: Instead of the "CWM 2.5 red recovery" i had from the root (i might be a little stupid...) I now have a blue recovery and the buttons are different. Is there a way to revert to "CWM 2.5 red recovery"
ROM Manager is a complete waste of time with this phone. It won't work. Droidstyle's Guide is the only way to to go.

that's the guide I used for rooting my device.
I'll read through it again thanks
Yeah, the guide also covers the correct way to flash custom ROMs, recoveries, and kernels. You'd have to read way back in the forums, but you'd find that the ROM Manager discussion was conclusive. It simply doesn't work for the SCH-1500. The good news is that flashing via CWM and Odin, as you'll learn, is quite easy. You just have to do things exactly as Droidstyle describes. 99% of the rooting problems you'll read about in these forums have more to do with incorrect flashing techniques than they do with with devs' coding errors.
