[Q] Which Kernel Are You Using With your EDT Rom - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running Trigger 2.9.2 and was wondering which kernel everyone who is also running an EDT rom is using, since I can't decide what to pick.

I rocking Trigger 2.9.2 with the latest Overstock kernel, OC'd at 1.2 ghz

Im rockin the overstock 1.5.2 thats under volted. Its been rock solid for me. If you dont care about battery life the use the OC'd version. You cant go wrong with Overstock!

lol uhm.. stock ka6 with voodoo sound 7, voodoo color, bln.
* no FPS uncap, no oc/uv, no memory hacks, no fancy splash screen or any other thing drastic *
keeping it nice, simple and clean

I'm running Bi-Winning and the latest Bullet alpha (not an official release) kernel. So amazing.

Enjoying Bullet 1.484 when I'm near a charger and Overstock 2.4.1 when I'm not (Bi-Winning). The Bullet kernels are so damn fast but so is the battery drain. Still playing with settings to see if I can stretch it out a bit. Cmenard makes amazing kernels!!

I'm just worried since I've never installed kernels, and now I want to start getting my feet wet with them and I'm taking baby steps in completely customizing my phone. If I don't like one can I just flash over or do I need to back up my current one?!

I've got about 5 saved on my sd card. Put a few different ones on your sd and try them out. If you get one you don't like boot into recovery and flash a new one. If you flashed Trigger you'll have no problem flashing kernels. It's the same process but much quicker.

I'm sure they will eventually make it to XDA, but right now there alpha kernels. Unless your feeling a little generous you probably won't find them.

MY FAV SETUP to date - waiting on updates or Cyanogen

I am only posting this so those who like to try new things can try this setup. It is not for everyone, but my phone is amazingly snappy, apps are opening pronto, and my battery/gps are perfect.
I am currently running Eugenes Ginger Clone R2:
http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=144
Notes: this does not have the shortcuts in the notification bar and also does not have swype (note the name of the ROM.... dont complain about this).
After my initial boot and getting everything all setup I flashed the JL4 stock + voodoo, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
With Eugene and supercurio combined the only way I am going to shift from this is if they themselves update, or Cyanogen comes out... stronly suggest trying this out. Be certain you are comfortable with this before trying it. You will need to disable voodoo before flashing anything else.
to disbale, go to the sdcard/voodoo folder and create a file named "disable voodoo" (without the "'s") and then reboot... it will then convert back from EXT4.
HUGE THANK YOU TO EUGENE AND SUPERCURIO - my phone might as well be the Nexus S (but with an SD Card and Gorilla Glass)!!
Anyone else running this? Do you agree that others should try it?
Not what I'm running, but lets make this a "my ideal setup until CM" sorta thread, which is how I read the subject line at least.
So far, my favorite themed setup was Frobuntu, but I had some issues with system processes chewing up CPU. So now, Blackhole. 1.1 was great, just flashing 1.2 now. Customizable - I love that. Just pick what I want in ROM Manager and it loads up. No hunting down extra files to flash or ADB push, dealing with megaupload, hotfiles, etc. I think I'm staying here until we get a CM or true AOSP build.
This setup sounds like one I've seen before if I could only remember where I saw it ohh I'm running it and it is fast but I put swype back in it I like the speed of swype the jl4 modem wasn't giving me the best connection but jl1 is pretty good but my phone is running fast as fast can be

j/k, did you flash the add-on Swype from the R series roms? If not, which Swype did you use? I'm going to grab an old .apk on my pc later today probably.
I used the swype.apk from the thread I cant remember which thread it was but I'm using naked swype the black back drop and white letters it looks amazing with the black froyo theme msg morph

Bionix Fusion 1.2 w/ CoreR 1.2 GHZ + OCLF = fastest thing since lighting = average 2900 quadrant score. This setup was unfathomably fast, however, when reinstalling apps with TB i had problems, as i came from a 2.2 build.
Doesn't Ginger clone already have stock JL4? And super I/O? So I just need voodoo?

i'm using Eugene's Ginger Clone R2 with JL4+voodoo kernel with JL1 modem.
I upgraded this from ttabbal's dragrom which i injected AOSPish 1.1 into, with BLN. I might change GC R2 over with ttabbal's dragon kernel and use BLN.
But right now, "stock" kernel is fine.

Been getting this (at least) for a while already with Axura + Voodoo. Maybe typical for many of the popular roms when combined with Voodoo. When the 2.2.1 based ROMs become stable on the Vibrant, combining that with Voodoo might make me want to change. Other than that, short of GB Stable becoming available I probably won't see the need to change.
ooo i was flashing a wrong VOODOO not the one you told me to, disabling the old one and gonna flash the new one and tell you results.

Once again, thank you to all the devs that put their own time into cooking ROM's, kernels, etc. for the Galaxy S, Samsung should really give up Galaxy S branding to XDA devs, so far Samsung have shown zilch interest to stand up by their promises and product.

umm, i undid my LAGFIX, and downloaded the one you said to,and flashed using Clockwork now my quadrant score is like 900, am i doing it wrong?

Okay which rom should I use. Please read

Well I had my mind made up on Supercurio's KA6 Build with Voodoo and after some reading I came across this person's rom s0niqu3 (KA6+voodoo+bln+cifs), I just want a rom that is basicly the Samsung KA6 build, but speed up so my phone doesnt lag. Which one should I use?
You mean kernel, when we refer to 'roms' we're talking about the framework, theming, and applications that make up the software that sits on top the kernel.
To answer your question though, you will do just fine with one of supercurio's stock+voodoo kernels. Very reliable and the lag fix is totally worth it...will probably save you hours of fiddling/waiting for the UI over the lifetime of the phone.

I still suggest Eugene's GingerClone R2. I have been using this for about 2 months and it is still the best performing ROM that I've experienced for the Vibrant.
Trigger 2.6.2
It has the kernel you want (voodoo, voodoo sound, voodoo color and almost completely stock). The ROM is stable, no known bugs that I'm aware of. Beautifully themed too.
Edit, just saw .3 was released. I would load it up, get it running how you like, and then flash s0niqu3s kernel on top of it. I do feel it's better than KA7+voodoo.

I need info on installing Trigger v2.9.2

Im running on Bionix-V and im wondering on how i install trigger with that and what i need to do and if its any good or not
thanks!
And im sorta wanting it really soon
Trigger is awesome. So is the dev team. Just download the trigger zip and put on your internal sd card. Boot into recovery. Select install zip from sd card. Then select zip. Flash zip then wait. Then reboot. Wait another 15 minutes and reboot again. Enjoy! !

I came from bionix 1.3 & I love trigger. It seems a little more responsive & I got better quad scores (which doesn't mean much). Plus, Trigger thread is active meaning Roman (birgtime) is still making modifications & trying new things. I like to flash so this was a bonus. I think you'll be very happy with it but if not you can always flash back.

whats the difference between the menu style between bionix and trigger 2.9.2 cause like bionix is like eclair and trigger is like something new like the apps are altogether being scrolled up and down while bionix is like by page...so whats the difference and why is it like that? is it cause of the launcher or something?

looking for a rom with long term stability

hey guys, my friend just got this phone, and i wanted to set it up for her. i know custom roms usually seem to have an expiration date, before whatever memory tricks they use start to rape the phone.. so im looking for something with long term support.. actually, what im really looking for, is something that has android 2.2, is stable, rooted, and will let me use the hacked camera app (the one where the power button takes pictures, and you can use it during music, and take pics under 15%), and lastly has voodoo sound.. can anyone help point me to a rom that can do this?
thank you all so very much
also i was wondering, does anyone know what 2.2 base rom is the most stable?
ComRom 2.1. Every good tweak, voodoo away, and rock solid stable.
wth oops ,
power washed ed05 is probably by far the most stable froyo rom I have used. The problem is everything froyo based is no longer being supported. Com rom 2.1, evil fascination, pw ed05, geewiz, all are great froyo roms tho...you will have to try them out yourself and determine whats best.

Hello, I don't own a Fascinate, but is trying to do rom upgrade for a friend. Which of those you mentioned is open source rom?
And for the non froyo rom, is the GPS working as good as Froyo (as in accuracy of 10m or less)? Do you have to load new bootloader or else you get rainbow issue? In your opinion, which fascinate ROM version (Froyo or GB) is more stable?

honestly if you want open source, flash cm7.1, then flash jt's latest kernal, or glitch v13. gps is the best I have seen on this setup...you might run into a couple small bugs, but nothing I would consider a deal breaker.

[Q] aokp vs cm9

I'm currently running cm7.1, and really love it. I'm also really curious about trying out the ics roms and don't know which one to try. has anyone run both? which one did you like most and why? also, if I do a nandroid backup, is that the same as a windows image backup? ...meaning I can reinstall cm7 and glitch kernel, then flash my nandroid backup and be right where I was before I changed anything?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &
Read the Forum Rules Ref Posting
Thanks ✟
Moving to Q&A
Yes you can restore a nandroid like you said as long as you are on the same ROM.
This is kind of an opinion, but I prefer Teamhacksung, as it is clean and bug-free.
ok cool. sorry about being in the wrong forum at first. so one for team hacksung, anyone else? I just want opinions as I don't think I have the time to try all the ics roms right now
aokp is by far the most solid ICS rom. its more how cyanogen use to be....lots of options to customise. THS cm9 is vanilla, meaning barebones.

This subject is opinionated and the OP should install both for a day to determine what he likes better.
Personally I used AOKP for the last six months, Yesterday I switched to CM9 experimental Linaro Build.. In my views way better than aokp..

Why?
i have the infuse but i started off using aokp switched to cm9 its been about a month.. goin back 2 aokp as of now cm9 isnt like cm7, i like tweaking and customizing as much as possible and i love the navigation bar aokp has..
Ok cool I think I'm about ready to try some out. One last question, I keep seeing things about how it's not easy to got back to cm7 from ics? Can someone give me some insight on this incase I don't like ics? Something with the different file types? I also want to keep my eh03 radio if I do end up going back to cm7
I'm now a little confused, after reading the guide for installing ROMS, in particular the ICS ones, arent all the ICS Roms based on what is stated- MTD CM9? So is there a difference aokp vs cm9? I guess what would be the large differnces between any two for example? Different kernels?

well i got impatient and went ahead and did it lol. i went with aokp 40.1 and devil kernel .79. the first try was a disaster, what seemed to work went straight to crash and reboot when waking from the lockscreen. i thought it was my oc i was messing with so i turned it back to stock volts and frequencies. low and behold it did it again but this time would not boot up, would not flash anything from recovery, would not format anything from recovery, it was totally bricked. i even tried reflashing cwm though odin and it was a no go.
finally after a few hrs of gathing info, i flashed the stock froyo rom and it unbricked it and i tried aokp again. this time i used aokp build 40, and devil kernel v.72 and everything is beautiful and works perfect, rock solid stability with 1200mhz multiplier oc, 110% fsb oc on liveoc totaling 1362mhz i think. the ics launchers suck and are laggy for me, i dunno why but go launcher is smoooootthhh and so is everything else on the phone. i cant find anything that doesnt work, im not regretting this or looking back at all, thanks a bunch for the help guys. im also pretty sure its snappier and quicker than cm7.2 was for me on my 1.3ghz overclock and glitch 13.1

ive seen it but was a little wary of it lol. for those wondering and addicted to voodoo color... at first i was worried i would loose the deep color and gamma control that i have with voodoo color, but the device color options do a really good job with it and there is a gamma control and it works great, no washed out colors or anything of that nature. im pretty hardcore on my vivid colors so i have the gamma maxed out minus a tad of green but it looks great.. to me.
for the guy who originally mention v0.85, so far its working great, cleared cache, dalvik, and ran ultimate kernel cleaning script then installed and it seems to be running great. the only thing now is the long term stability test, over a week ive had zero freezes FCs, or any issues with .72, i hope i can get this with .85. it seems a little snappier and nandroid is working again. thanks a bunch for the link, a few hours of searching for it and google still didnt help me. ill get back to everyone on the stability of it for me, running 110% fsb oc on nstools and slightly undervolted. im sure theres a ton of info already on other threads but ill still report back. thanks guys
edit: im still having issues with bln, is there a quick fix with it? it worked right away with my botched install of 40.1 and .79 kernel, witch was completely unstable, but now on 40, and .85 its still not working, any ideas? also on first boot from cold soft keys were unresponsive but seem to be working now. im not complaining as i know there are newer versions of the devil kernel but im trying to find a very good balance of functionality and stability.
