[Kernels] Overclock kernels for stock 1.2 [2011-05-13 update BFS version] - Nook Color Android Development

Using this kernel is at your own risk. Before flashing make backups!!!
=========================WHY===============================
dalingrin is now working hard at CM7 kernel, and seems nobody has post the 1.2 overclock kernel, I'v recompiled the 2.6.32.9 kernel with a few of dalingrin's patches(modified from dalingrin's git).
so for the one who wants to taste some fresh meat, here it comes~~
=========================WHAT==============================
http://sugwacee.dyndns.org/index.php/16.html?p=/20110505
there are four versions:
1.1GHz
1.2GHz
stock 800M
BFS test version[/URL](1.1GHz)--for test only, cos it is set to very low voltages just for my NC. use it at your own risk.
1.1g version is recommended, and if your NC is a tuff one, try 1.2g
changes differ from stock 1.2 kernel(2.6.32.9):
1. freq table changed, boot 900M, and has a 1.2G/1.1G option. you can active it by using SETCPU. now let's go to youtube...
2. volume tweaks.
3. cifs and utf8 supported.
4.freq transition latency tweaks.
5. volt down.
6. ram speed tweaks, i don't know if it works or not(stock1.1->1.2 has change ram freq from 166M to 200M, and i am using a kernel which configured it as 220M, and if stable, i will post it) -- in BFS VERSION
7. BFS sched. currently i have BFS as the proc sched, all crazy(with quadrant 3D/2D improved slightly~1 fps up at DNA test, and excellent touch experience). but wifi has gone(kmod version issue maybe)[/COLOR] -- fixed, thanks to verygreen.
==========================HOW==============================
And of course, use CWM to flash the new kernel, just enjoy them. first boot after flashing will display an "update failed notice", turn off and then on to ignore this.
Just feel free to post feedbacks, and you can post your file:/sys/power/sr_vsel
special thanks to:
Dalingrin, for his great patches and works for NC/CM.
Verygreen, for the wlan_drv and too all the CM related works.
=======================[2011-05-13 EDIT]=============
Add BFS version.
because BFS version use a new tiwlan_drv.ko, if you change back to another kernel, do remember use NC_stock_1.2_restore_wlan_drv.zip to restore stock tiwlan_drv.ko.
===========current feedbacks============
1.1g seems to be stable for most of people. but I still doubt of it:
quadrant sometimes stop at running H.264 benchmark, I do think it has something to do with the DSP freq/volt, i have recompiled a new version to confirm this. release ASAP.

thanks,,,, will give it a try,,, 1.1 g gives me a quadrant score of 1581.... the stock 800m gave me 1261,,,, big difference in how the nook feels and responds , good work...
Edit: just ran 3 more times and got 1700+ every time !

Nice work.
1.1 is working great on my Nook.

Working perfectly for me so far. Thank you!

was that with 1.1g ? or 1.2g?

1.16GHz.
my NC will crash at 1.2G(if no volt tuned up, same as the Dalingrin' Eclair OC kernel. i prefer batterylife first,so i locked it at 1.16G, with stock volt level), fine enough, youku(sth. in China like youtube ) acts perfect.
here is the pic i post to another bbs

so far so good. no bluetooth i guess? pardon my noobiness.

Excellent! Been waiting for this OC kernel. Tested 1.2Ghz (unstable) and 1.1ghz(stable) on dual boot partition running BN 1.2... it would be great to see interactive governance profile enabled and a working BT inject! It is noticeable speedier with the OC kernel.. might be replacing my Nookie Froyo with this setup.

What's the purpose for the 800M zip? To get the new features?
Any issues with wifi?

if you have a problem and need to return to stock....wifi still works great 1.1g is perfect, 1.2g made me crash.... hope that helps

Great work, have been waiting for this since I rooted 1.2 and all I need now is a little speed boost. Keep it up.

Nice work! Using the 1.1GHz kernel and my NC went from 1300+ Quadrant scores to 1800+. So far I've seen no issues!

incase that someone's NC is unstable with both 1.1g and 1.2g, for restoring

how's the battery life?
My stock rooted 800M is pretty decent: 6+ days with 1 hour of usage each day.
Undervolting with 1.1g in the best case could be a wash in terms of battery life?

Mine is unstable at 1.2G but 1.1G works great. Thank you very much. Now only if I can get rid of this youtube not working on my rooted Nook 1.2

not very sure. you can check the battery life.
a few days later, i will do some clean up and release a new version(which is much stabler, with most of stuffs i mentioned), that one would to be the same as stock one(i mean battery life performance)

bugs with youtube?
I noticed that the only two members having problems with youtube have also overclocked the NC: ehcan and HTCF4N.
Coincidence? I am at BN1.2 with MN4.5.2 and have not OC. Youtube works fine.

I have 1.1 OC. Youtube is perfect.

maybe sth. to do with dsp volt, i guess, same as the H.264 issue i mentioned at first post.
fix it later.
curiously, i remember the h.264 issue apear with stock kernel, so maybe sth. wrong with system itself.

P500 performance

Hi, guys.
I thought of making a thread where we can post bechmark screenshots on our P500. Just for the sake of comparison, so other people can try to get what we've got.
Let's do like this:
First, post your P500 informations like ROM, OC (overclock) yes - how much / no, KERNEL, A2SD/D2SD (apps2sd/data2sd) script yes - which one / no, franciscofranco's tweaks yes / no, modified libsqlite yes - which one/ no.
If you have another item to add to the list, feel free to add it.
And then post your benchmark screenshots like on Neocore, Quadrant and RL SQL.
My current configuration:
ROM - CM7 6.4.1 by mik_os
OC - yes, 245mhz~748mhz interactive
KERNEL - the one from CM7, didn't change it
A2SD/D2SD - ungaze's DATA2EXT
franciscofranco's tweaks - yes
Modified libsqlite - yes, ungaze's

these are the file you need to get such score just make sure it is working with the rom you choose http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12959016&postcount=2 as some users are getting prob using a2sd and as far as rom is concerned this is the 1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
The Graphics Coprocessor in the Optimus line is awesome for certain, but it makes comparisson to non GPU phone hard.
Dislplin01, posted the Linpack test (free in Android market), that measures MFLOPS and is more balanced comparison between all phones by all vendors.
BTW freaking awesome numbers, rapharias!

Hey, guys. Nice to see other people's numbers.
Actually, Quadrant's score is just for comparison, it doesn't change anything in performance or game playing if it is high. Linpack is a good way to see how is your phone.
Sometimes Neocore gives me 61fps.
As for my Linpack score, it's the same as dislplin01's.
If you want to know what ROM, kernel etc. I am using, just read my first post.
You can find ALL of it here in XDA forums! Just take a look on p500 developers area.
I'm thinking of changing to mik_os' CM7 6.4.2 or void.franco soon. I'll post more benchmarks later if I change anything.
I still dont understand why you cant explain such high quantrant scores as well as neocore i have done all that you guys say i should and still only 12oo in quandrant and 59.0 in neocore ????????
Actually I told everything I'm using right now on my P500. Anyway, if you want to try it, here are the posts in which you can download all the mods:
CM7 6.4.2 mik_os http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
Tweaks franciscofranco http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999064
Data2SD ungaze http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042828
Patched Libsqlite ungaze http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000899
I'm also running an overclock of 245mhz min / 748mhz max - interactive (you can set it by using SetCPU or on CM7's configuration tools).
I am thinking of changing CM7 for the new 6.4.2 version (I have 6.4.1) or franciscofranco's 2.2 rom. I'll post later if I do.
I used void but quadrant only got 527, with overclocked 787mhz
Sent from my LG-P500
Yeah, Gingerbread, for some reason, gets a higher Quadrant score. I don't know why.
But anyway, even with so great benchmark scores, games like Zenonia get low fps sometimes. Tested it myself.
Nice I'm scoring 2200 in quadrant and 58-60 in neocore after instal of these tweeks I'm happy
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App running CM7 over clocked at 806
Don't you get kernel panics OCing it up to 806mhz? I'm on 748 max and correcting myself, Zenonia doesn't lag anymore.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
No but the this is like 4th optimus t and the first one over clocked to 806 but the second 2 would only go to 787 but this one will go to 806
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App running CM7 over clocked at 806
Everything on mine one is still stock one, suitable for reference.
Quadrant:
436 [When i'm using 2.2.2]
468 [When i'm using 2.2.1]
Neocore:
24.6 FPS
ROM Void (2.2), Francos´s Kernel V10 , OC 729, Quadrant : 679 without stagefright player. Neocore 50.2.
I don't see how people get such good quantrant scores. I was getting low scores before when I was on Optimus x rom. ( 532 ) but I've moved to megatron rom now, I'm getting scores ( 985 ) which is better but I'm still getting under 1000.
Neocore scores is only 48 fps
Well I.know megaton is a great rom I used to get 1200 quadrant score on it are you over clocking?? C cause thats important also we are using ungazes data2sd and ungazes libsquit.so and that is what is giving us scores of 2100 sometimes even more mainly it's ungazes data 2sd it's great and gives you unlimited room for your apps but it does have some bugs
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App running CM7, ungaze data2sd, over clocked at 787 quadrant score 2100

[Competition] Post your BEASTLY Benchmarks! Who'll get the highest?

We all own one of the most powerful smartphone to date. With great custom Rom's and kernels available, we get some of the highest benchmarks.
So now it's time to show them off!!
Post your:
- Quadrant
- CF-Bench
- AnTuTu
scores here.
Briefly describe the Rom/kernel you're using along with Ext4 (w/ or w/o journaling)/Ext3/CM7 partitions as well as mentioning if it is stock or OC'ed frequency.
Even if you don't have the highest benchmarks, feel free to share them! CM7 gets higher benchmarks than other Rom's anyway.
Highest Benchmarks will be posted on #2 for both OC and stock clocks. So it's a bit like a competition.
Bare in mind these three things:
Please post screenshots! Don't give numbers or your score will NOT be shown on #1/2!
Please upload in either qHD or resize to 640x480. Anything LESS will not be shown on #1/2!
Even if your score doesn't beat the ones on #1/2, FEEL FREE TO UPLOAD THEM ANYWAY!! In general, CM7 gets higher scores anyway, so DON'T be put off!
Good luck!

I don't know if these are accurate, though. For some reason the Java scores in CF-bench were WAY too low (like, below stock Atrix levels), and I don't know if the other benchmarks take that into account.

Nope no widgets. I'll have to try and freeze some more bloat.
Use setcpu, and use scaling performance so that it's truly running at 1.5GHz. Samsung uses "on-demand" speed scaling, so when you test, there's a chance it might be running at less than 1.5 if it hasn't scaled up to 1.5 yet
I'm running stock ROM (only rooted), CWM b4 recovery, and Da_G overclock kernel
Dont just freeze bloat uninstall it! I never freeze it.
i'm running stock everything except i run an installed Launcher. why would mine be higher than some others? does rooting slow it down?

Couple things here, and by no means am I an Apple fan to ANY degree, but....
4S is close to year old technology, so comparing it to a brand new superphone like the Note (even the Skyrocket which has been to market for a couple months now) is silly. I generally like Phonedog and was genuinely surprised that guy would even compare the two devices. It sets a really silly precedent because 8 months from now, he'll likely make the same comparison between the Note and the Iphone5 which just might be similarly unfair, in the other direction.
Also, Quadrant is very nearly fraudulent in terms of its usefulness in showing the "actual" speed of a device, in a real-world sense, so I take ANY statement that starts or ends with Quadrant benchmarking with a huge truckload of salt.
Just my take...

Vibrant keeps shutting off and freezing!

i have a jelly bean rom on my phone and for a while it worked fine with a custom kernel. then it started to freeze as soon as i hit the lock button. so it wouldnt turn back on. it always does it now. but when i take off the kernel it works fine with the stock jb rom kernel. ive tried slim bean, cm10, helly bean and they all freeze with a custom kernel. they use the devil or sephamore kernel. both give me the same problem and i dont know what is causing it when the kernels were meant to work on these roms. some help would be much appreciated
Are you overclocking or anything? Undervolting? Live OC? Maybe your phone can't handle it.

its overclocked to 1.3 ghz with this kernel but it should be able to handle it. i used to run it at 1.6 on gingerbread and ics roms. the devil kernel ran fine with with live overclock on ics. im using sephamore on jb with live overclock of 105% and its undervolted. i dont know if this is the problem though as i used to run at higher clock speeds with undervolting and live overclock.
Try flashing the kernel, but don't overclock or undervolt.
See if it reboots/hangs.
Then try just overclocking.
Then try just undervolting.
Etc.
Just so we can narrow down the problem.
Also, is deep idle enabled?
Edit: May I ask why you overclock so high?
If it's for performance, you're much better Live OC'ing like 10% and leaving the min at 200 + the Live OC.
Heck, maybe even 20%, it'll be super snappy.
Unless you play games, then I understand.

Yeah ill try that out and i disabled deep idle i think it still does it. if i awaken my phone periodically it wont reboot.
and i used to just because i could i usually kept the max at around 1.5 ghz. i would just use 1.6 maybe for some heavier games. but now the processor is only at 1.3 ghz and 1.46 with the devil kernel as i dont play much games anymore.
i keep my min at 200.
and when i flash the kernel do you want me to leave it alone not change the governor or scheduler? or anything of that sort?
actually i have live oc to 130% i was thinking of the devil kernel i tried earlier sorry.
How are you disabling Deep Idle?
With the Kernel app or NSTools, or?
Do it with the kernel app.
Let me try some higher settings real quick just to get an idea.
Yeah, leave it how it comes.
Ondemand is fine if you want battery life and for the ROM to be snappy.
Noop is fine, too.
Smartmassv2 seems laggy on this kernel.

i used nstools and also i have smooth profiles on and the overclock is running at 1.3 ghz yours is around 1 ish? did you set it in the kernel app to set the clock speed? my smartassV2 seema to be faster with me. I am running sio scheduler with SmartassV2.
i am going to start playing with the settings now.
may i ask what rom and kernel you had working?

[Kernel] Whatever Flo 002 | GPU/CPU OC | Pure Stock | JSS15J [Aug 04]

Whatever Flo
What is it: Stock android kernel, JSS15J, absolutely no changes besides the overclock. No fancy features, no snake oil, no bloat, clean stock experience.
Overclock not customisable, baked right into the kernel and loaded on boot, no CPU/GPU management apps needed.
I take no responsibility or imply any warranty for the use of this kernel, use of this kernel is completely at your own risk.
If a build doesn't work for you try the lower clocked version, still not then you're out of luck and your CPU can't handle the overclock sorry. If there is enough demand I can build a lower clocked edition but I don't really see the need. Any problems or questions I will try to answer for you.

Change Log
Code:
Aug 4 2013:
- Added GPU OC option
Aug 3 2013:
- Added CPU Overclock builds
Very nice. Do you intend to add GPU OC as well? I think with this kernal with GPU OC it would play nicer with Clean ROM than the current Kernels. Just my opinion but Jassy kernel doesn't seem to like CR as much as Cm 10.2 so I would really like to see what stock with extra OC's does for that very nice Rom .

Yes I am planing on it, doing some stability and performance tests right now. Will release it when I finish that.

You are awesome. This is what I've always wanted in a kernel.
CPU, GPU OC and voltage control.
Thanks!
New builds up, now include GPU overclock.
Great kernel, no issues on stock ROM whatsoever. Seems like GPU scores went down a tad though, with no oc and oc versions of the 1.7ghz, looks like it went down 1k pts on 3d score in antutu.
Maybe add a little higher oc on the GPU to test out with the 1.7ghz version?
Could you confirm with me, I have the 1.7+GPU oc version and my 3d graphics score seems to be lower, I was around 7k for stock clocks.

Thanks for the heads up, I haven't tried using antutu for my benchmarking and I ran most of my testing on the 1.8 build since I just assumed dropping the clocks down wouldn't make much of a difference. I'll look into it.
Any Chance of a JSS15Q Version?

Yeah that would be peachy if JSS15Q based. I was on jassy's earlier (with JSS15J) and the GPU boost was noticeable, but back on stock to fix the multitouch.
hey .
i tested the 1,7ghz+450mhz gpu kernel and its running fine .
But it would be so cool if u could make one more kernel with just GPU overclock because i think the CPU power of the n7 is fine with 1.5ghz .
but the 50mhz more in GPU frequency will be more noticable .
i hope its not to much work for you... otherwise i will be fine with running the 1,7ghz edition.
thanks
I really liked this kernel, but when I flashed it after the latest cm 10-18 nightly, it caused a corrupt display upon booting. Fortunately I had made a nandroid backup a few weeks earlier so I was able to get it working again after restoring the system partition. I'm afraid to try flashing this again..
