[Q] DEV Q - Icecream Sandwich for HERO ? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
With all the Rumour about Icecream Sandwuch and about it Unifying the Tablet and mobile platforms, I was wondering if It would be just possible to get Icecream sandwich on the Hero
I see two problems though
1.. The Hero Hardware may just make it impossible
2... Most Hero Devs have moved on or some dont have their Heroes.
Still We can Dream on

would be a nice go though our hero's are dyin!

Froyo has been the most stable...i'd rather see more stable roms than lots of cool but only semi usable roms...

froyo2.2 with htc sence is possible?

i have waiting for this froyo2.2 with htc sense is any possible to cook with sense plz advice me thanks.
hi there
Having hero with 2.2 sense is not as simple as You may think
Until few days ago most of the people were waiting for HTC Legend to get official 2.2. That way the Devs could probably port it to hero.
But few days ago we learned that some crazy (in a good way) people ported HTC wildfire 2.2 to our phones. Despite different res, it looks promissing
So for now only 2.2 with sense for hero is alpha rom (with some of the features such as WIFI/camera not working).
Be patient.
Oh, and Devs can't port 2.2 sense from let's say Desire due to the huge hardware differences (probably processor architecture).
Hope this helps.

[Q] Honeycomb in x10 ?

Is possible bring Honeycomb in Xperia X10 ?
Is a OS for tablets, so I don't know.
i dont think so, you can bet on icecream it will have gingerbread and honeycomb.
We are still waiting for it
I guess it is possible
but it won't be nice
since official notice that Honeycomb (3.0) are optimized for tablet devices
not our mobile phone devices
I hear devs have ported an alpha release for Nexus S so who knows?

[Discussion]Will ice cream sandwich, the Android 4.0 be on our phones?

Will the ice cream sandwich be compatible, and running on the devices we currently have?
I heard that it is meant to be "universal", that it will be compatible on all devices.
What do you think?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
probably. ive read that itll bring phones and tables into "a cohesive whole."
Yes it will be compatible with "Devices that can run gingerbread" so that's pretty good since many budget phones are coming out with gingerbread
I kind of understood the same. It is supposed to even be able to install and run older devices(I'm assuming the G1 or something) I couldnt find the actual names or examples of which older devices so don't take that as written in stone, just my assumptions. And quite frankly, I DONT WANT TO WAIT!!! lol... Hopefully it is as good as they are painting it.

nexus prime will be announced next week + ICS ?

So are they going to give us ICS after the release of the prime ? our hardware surely has to be compatible ! How does this work ! Is this going to be just for future phones ?

1-ice cream sandwich is going to be announced next week correct !
2-isn't it the next android Operating system for phones up from honeycomb
Yes or No !
WiKi Android OS
2.3 Gingerbread
3.0 Honeycomb
3.1 Honeycomb
3.2 Honeycomb
Future releases
(ICS) is short for > 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is said to be a combination of Gingerbread and Honeycomb into a "cohesive whole".[51] In September 2011, Eric Schmidt stated that Ice Cream Sandwich "is being released in October/November."[61] Ice Cream Sandwich will be publicly unveiled on October 19 in Hong Kong.[62]

So what's the problem answering the question ?
why the hell are you yelling?
Yes, ICS is going to be announced next week
Yes, it is the next android version for phones and tablets. honeycomb was only for tablets.
how the hell would we know for sure if we are going to see ICS released from samsung for our phones? you seem to want a definite answer, yet we cant give that to you because im guessing most of us dont work for samsung.
a good guess would be that, yes we will see a touchwiz version of ICS made available for our phones, but not for months from now. we most definitely will not see a version as soon as its released on the nexus devices.

Yeah, it was a joke. My whole point was it's funny how people worry about an OS release that they don't even know anything about, yet they let it influence their buying decision.

google makes new version of android
google releases new version of android (only available on nexus devices at first)
manufacturers begin working on their tainted/bloated/overly UI'd versions of the new google android build
eventually, at close to the time of the next new shiny build of the next android version, we see the manufacturers, (more importantly the carriers) start pushing out the version that is now 3-6 months old, and we see complaints up until the point the next shiny version is put out about how all the manufacturers/carriers are stupid and dont support their devices....
rinse, repeat

If you don't know what the benefit of an OS is, why would it matter if you have it or not? You're acting as blindly as the sheep who bought the new iPhone 4S just because it was marketed as an upgrade.
At least be informed if you're going to ask stupid questions. Nobody minds answering questions from people who google the question first.
The new OS is expected to be unveiled on October 19 and fans all over the world can watch the event live on Google’s YouTube channel, starting 10 AM HK time. Along with the OS, the world is expecting Google and Samsung to release the Nexus Prime / Galaxy Nexus smartphone at the event as well. The Galaxy Nexus has been highly anticipated since it will be the first smartphone to showcase the ICS OS.
So 10:00 PM Tonight it'll be broadcast

Cyanogen Mod 9?
In answer to your question yes ICS is available for the desire S in the form of Cyanogen Mod 9.
Whilst I know other roms are available such as Ice Cold Sandwich they all appear to be at least loosely based on CM9.
Although it is described as alpha I have installed it on both my desire s as well as a friends and it works without issue on both devices perfectly all of the hardware is now functional with the exception of the FM radio but there are plenty of online radio apps, or you could just use the MP3 player.
The only small issue you may encounter were problems with games such as temple run although this has been fixed in the latest release (09/05/2012)
I have owned the desire s for just under a year now, it is my first android phone but from experience of viewing friends phones it is still one of the superior android devices on the market. Whilst it does not have the dual core processor or huge amounts of ram of the current flagship phones there is a large community behind the device as there is the desire HD and Z. Therefore there are regular roms available for it. On another note in terms of the phones power, I have not found a single app or game my phone cannot run well including full 3d games such as the pocket version of Minecraft.
In terms of battery life after a year of use I can still manage about 2 days with sparing use and a sense based rom or a whole day with heavy use on a sense rom.
With the new CM9 I am managing 2 days of medium to heavy use and 4 days of sparing use. I believe this is due to the lack of the sense ui.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
