[Q] Things that suck about the Galaxy S II - Help me resolve - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love my SGSII, but some things just plain suck though. Does anyone know of solutions to the following:
Bluetooth
Poor A2DP quality (low bitpool)
Gets hot and battery drain after turning the car stereo off.
Often doesn't respond to forward/back controls.
Lockscreen
I'd much rather just have the stock Google lockscreen. Anyone know how to restore this?
Call answer slider
These are ugly and not very smoothly animated. Anyone know a way to replace these with stock or otherwise?
Apps missing from Market on KE7
I've noticed a few of these. It finds Samsung-specific apps instead.
Swipe to dismiss notifications
I guess this is just a useful cyanogen feature that I miss.
No silent state
I want 'ring and vibrate', 'vibrate only' and 'totally silent' ring modes on volume button like Cyanogen, or in the notification drop down. As it is, I only have everything or vibrate only. It's very annoying having to go into the menus or use an ugly widget.
Change what double-tapping the home button does
Currently goes to Vlingo, which is awful. It could do something useful
The UI still has loads of poor design elements left over from the SGS
Most notably, words that don't fit in boxes and fall onto 2 lines as below (regardless of font used)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Also, loading bars often overlap other text and elements. It looks sloppy. Why do Samsung think this is an improvement over stock?
The Gallery app has two menus to send things
Ways to share pictures is now split between 'send via' and 'share via'. This is completely unnecessary. Why would Samsung do this? Can I install the stock gallery app?

I use widgetlocker to bypass the stock lockscreen. There is a setting in widgetlocker which allows you to bypass your stock lockscreen so when you "slide to unlock" it goes straight to your homescreen. Plus you can add widgets, etc. which is a very nice feature.

coming from the iPhone (though liking the GS2 very much) I find it annoying how incosistent the UI is.
To share a picture from the browser is a completely different action than sharing something from the gallery...

I've got a higher bitpool lib uploaded... Wanna try it?

Back up the old one, and put in /system/lib/ and see if it helps

that the mediascanner runs everytime you hook that thing up copy smthing to the sdcard

Is this the original One from the villain thread? Because that got my sgs2 stuck at the boot screen!
Add to this list the video camera which constantly goes in and out of focus.

wow is that bad, i never knew these types of things existed. i just thought it was identical to AOSP code based ROMs. samsung should really feel silly for UI issues like that. particularly because they are stock elements gone awry allegedly due to samsung's custom skin of the device. they broke stock!

Yes it's very sloppy. All of these were present on the first Galaxy S. Either fix thhem, or put it back to stock!
More issues:
Setting to 'power saver mode' disables sync. Returning to normal mode doesn't re-enable it.
How the feel do I snooze the alarm?
Network data stops working, with the upload arrow stuck on but no download.

You can set the snooze settings under advanced settings when you create or edit an alarm. Tab on snooze and set the snooze timeout and the number of times you are allowed to snooze.

These things "Suck"? Sure, they can be inconvenient, they're minor software bugs I imagine. SGS2 is new. Give it some time

Well, the battery draining in less then half a day is not properly a minor inconvenience, given that it's a mobile device. IMHO.
Even the sound quality over bluetooth is a major letdown for me, to be true. I am coming from an Iphone4 whose BT sound quality was great and I'm pretty disappointed.

The default password is the top left dot (just click on it). Once you have setted your own pattern (you can do that by tap&hold and then select change pattern) it's stored on a file called lockcode.txt in the app folder.
Ohhh! Looks amazing, installing ASAP !
EDIT: First thoughts:
WOW! This app is amazing, especially for the first beta. Honestly, I'd use this as is with no changes. I think I'm going to skin it later this weekend to see how it looks. Therer were a few things I noticed however.
If you enter the wrong pattern, "again" is spelled "aggain".
The load time took about 5-6 seconds on my touch.
That was really all that I noticed with it. Works very smooth and and I really like the transparent affect on it!
Just a few suggestions:
Please keep it simple like it is, too much extra will just slow it down.
The option to overlap existing lines in the pattern would give some extra security.
Making it full screen with an extra row of dots.
Sorry to sound like a pain, but I really like this development and would like to see this grow a lot.
Again, excellent work, keep it up !
Omgawd. Alfonso. I love you. You always come out with the things i need at exactly the right time I was looking for something like the iPhone S2U. I know A_C almost perfected it, but i really wanted a passcode thing. I'm going to double lock my phone now, Throttle Lock under my S2U2.
i think maybe it would be faster if the background was all black. i think transparency slows it down...
anyways, this is amazing.
EDIT: nevermind black background looks ugly.
WOW. Dude, you've done it again, this is ground breaking stuff.
I can;t fault it apart from the slow loading times. It's awesome
Also, is there anyway you can allow diagonals from one to the other? If you see what I mean?
Nice work!
Thanks, coooooool app. T M Z
Hi,
It looks awesome! Can anyone report on the effect on battery life?
Battery Life: ive only been using for about an hour and nothing bad. plus it only opens when you wake up your deivce so its not ALWAYS running.
I'm skinning it as we speak!
Very nice work APBilbo. Thank You. I have been looking for something like this for a while now. S2U2 is just to overloaded for my liking. It didn't seem to work right at first after I set the pattern, so I soft reset and now it works flawless on my Sprint Touch stock 6.1 ROM. Again Thank You, BOO
One Word... "Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Loving it.. lookin forward to the creativity to continue..
Bien Hecho!
I've been looking for an Android lock app ever since i saw the video preview of googles android OS.. what ive been looking for
great work!
Are you planning on adding features like S2U2? I asked A_C to add the patter feature to his unlock and he would not so I'm hoping you add the features he has so we can all have the best of everything.
Having an option to make the pattern "pads" invisible would allow the features from S2U2 can be added onscreen
so i made a "skin" for this.

Thank's everybody for the feedback!!
As i fas as I see there's no problems other than the speed thing... I'll try to speed it up a little bit. I can't promiss anything though.
About where will the throttle development go I don't plan to make it very complex. May be in the future I'll add:
- Full screen support.
- Some icon notifications for missed calls, new sms, new mail.
Understand that this is mostly a locking app to secure your device. Any info given on it will be public, so it will not show anything like next appointment, last called id, etc.... Though you're able to receive calls while the device is locked.
Thanks!!!

Any one-click widget to turn mobile data on/off?

I've only had my Galaxy S2 a few days and I absolutely love it, an amazing beast of a phone.
The only annoyance for me is the inability to easily switch on/off mobile data. Maybe I was spoilt coming from the Desire where Sense had an excellent widget that allowed you to turn it on and off straight from the homescreen, but I haven't been able to find a similar option for the S2. I've tried a variety of widgets (Beautiful Widgets, Switch Pro, Extended Control, Power control) but all of them have some flaws, they either don't work at all or they are really just links to the settings page.
On top of that, every time you check the setting to turn on the mobile data, I get that annoying pop-up telling me that it might cost me money to use this!
Love the phone but would love a way to turn on mobile data with one click. Has anyone found a way to do this?
no widget necessary. you can turn data off from anywhere on the phone. just hold down the power button and one of the options will be to turn data off.

cool. I didn't realize this was an option. Cheers.
And if you want a widget JuiceDefender has one and saves you battery as well
Found a simple widget that does what Sense did for Desire
I was also spoiled by the Desire and Sense with its on/off widget... but for SGS2, I managed to find one that works!
APN OnOff, it is very similar to the one in Sense. Used it for a few hours and seem to be doing a fine job AND IT IS FREE! Enjoy

Uh, I would not recommend APN OnOff. It kind of creates another APN entry that might muck around with your APN settings. If you are already rooted, try Widgetsoid and the root setting.
Tasker can create such a widget for you also, in addition to doing pretty much anything else you can think of when it comes to an Android phone...

widgetsoid can do this and is free. It's a little complicated to set up - think of it as a widget creation framework, but if you can get the hang of it, it can be very powerful!

[Q] Earphones Connected is there any use?

I was wondering if there is anyway to make more applications show up for this earphones connected prompt in my notification drop down. If there isn't, is there a way to disable it completely? It is really not helpful without giving me like google music or something else as an option.

I followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756885
and used this stripped down rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759642
Also somewhat related, does the galaxy s3 have support for lock screen music controls? I know it was a ICS default feature. It doesn't show for Google Play Music (or whatever it's name is at this point).
I also would like to add Google music and iheart radio in that menu. Any ideas? I am currently rooted using stock ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Just figured I should mention this, I put this rom on: and now I got more options, probably the stock options. It would be awesome to make this configurable in the future. I think a lot of us are getting ahead on expectations in development right now with this locked down bootloader, as it is still in the way of custom kernels and such. I think many of the capable dev's are busy trying to figure out how to fully unlock this device.
Heres an idea, I might give this one a try:
based off this: http://www.s3forums.com/forum/galaxy-s3-hacking-mods/874-hack-remove-wifi-reminder.html
edit this:
ContextAwareService -> logDatabase.db -> appLogTable
This appears to be holding the same shortcuts that the headphones plugged in thing brings up. When I plug in my headphones it crashes the SQLite Editor if I am viewing the database at the same time. Which leads me to believe it is making use of the sqlite database.
Edit:
indeed, I deleted the google talk as an option and it no longer shows when I plug in the headphones.
Update on progress:
I found the touchwiz home database which gave me the launch commands for different applications. I think I can add whichever I want to that database list in the same format at this point. Phone is doing a nandroid backup before I go any further. Here are the screen shots, and it was located in:
TouchWiz home -> launcher.db -> appOrder
Is there a hide/spoiler/resize option for the images? They are kind of large...
Got it working. =)
So I'll try to write up a better how to in the next few days. But these screen shots should be sufficient for now I figure. Here is proof it is working:
quick side note: notice the number skips 9 (what gtalk used to occupy). I would probably just edit gtalk to become Play Music, instead of deleting as I did.
__
__
edit:
Quick observation, anyone notice the fm radio option is default in the database? Not sure if that is because of the rom, or if included with even the stock Verizon.

Anyway to removes them completely?

I would like to know to remove the option completely too...as it takes too much space in drop-down notification
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'll do a nandroid backup and see if deleting the entries removes it cleanly. I suspecting the icon will still be there and such. Seems like a poor way to remove it even if it does work, I imagine the process will still run and such even if it doesn't show in notification bar. Giving it a shot in a little bit though.
Quick report back while I restore:
At first, it actually restored the original options after I deleted all entries. If I want into another table within the database and set the value to 0, then deleted the entries they would stay gone. Although they still allocated the same space it just didn't show them. I'll provide screenshots shortly.
Screenshots:
First attempt repopulated the default options:
Second attempt:
First go to 'sqllite seq' and set 'appLogTable' equal to 0:
Once again delete all the entries
Then you get this:
So even worse than I suspected. I thought it would at least allocate some extra space in the notification drop down. It takes up the same room, it is just blank now.

[BUGS] - Speed 7 stock ROM ZP951 20150820-222143

Hi,
I have purchased a new Zopo Speed 7 and, only with one day of use, I have found several BUGS. Almost all these bugs are registered in Zopo official forum:
I discovered these bugs:
1. The language "Deutsch (Österreich)" = German (Austria) does not work. Use "German (Germany)". "German (Austria)" causes a system crash if you use the volume button. Please see here:
2. The speaker is not really loud. "Cesium" ringtone - 90dB metered on the backside. 80db while the phone is on the table. Changing from 248 to 255 in the engineer mode does not really help. I can also hear that it is not possible to make it louder. This is an issue if you disable vibration. You won't hear your phone in public.
3. Push for notifications do not really work.
Working: phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger
Not working: Telegram, AquaMail, AlarmDroid, Amazon, Skype
Telegram and AlarmDroid do work, if I don't close them (in the multitasking menu), but it is annoying to keep them there.
4. Widgets still do not work after rebooting the phone. You have to remove them and add them again.
I hope Zopo solve theses BUGS asap.
More bugs
In the current Rom there are More bugs:
- when using Google maps navigation, the screen switches oft after a while. Then I can reactivate the screen one or two times and then finally it switches completely off. Powerbutton doesnt help, even the double-tap doesnt work. The device must be rebootet to recovery and reset to factory state.
- GPS lock needs more than 2 minutes
- using the smart cover is hell. When you close it, the device switches its screen off. OK. But when you reopen it - screen stays black. Power has to be pressed multiple times to reactivate the screen
- gestures do only work one in five times
- the mini Windows APP (this nasty little round thing shining through the smart covers hole, is not localized and crashes offen
All bugs discovered in one day. Rom: 20150820-222143
Hi.....Good Thread!
One other bug is that if someone would like to install one new launcher like Nova or others ...it or them will not apply because the Original launcher is fixed how the default.
I use in the time one good app to change the launcher this is called HOME SMACK but it here, in the speed 7 firmware , not are able to change launcher.

Maybe every seventh-eighth reboot start with stock launcher, but in the settings I push on NOVA and everything ok ( next seventh-eighth reboot). My biggest problem are the widgets!
After all, I think that the main reason for half of bugs is stock launcher.
I hate the problem where i am not getting notifications for whats app. Only when the app is open in the background i get notifications but when the app is closed the notifications dont come through. This is probably also affecting other apps. THe email and SMS notifications are ok.
Also there is a problem with Widgets. They only update when you open the actual app.
How can ZOPO get these little things wrong!
Look at my posting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62702453&postcount=7
Maybe it is a workaround for your Zopo Speed 7, too.
Sorry, was really hoping not to root the phone and for ZOPO to actually fix this problem themselves.
hey guys, got a wireless update with a new build today ... in the bug description it seems to cover most of these things. Check your wireless update!!!
However, the build doesn't apply properly to my phone for whatever reason... it fails because of a signature/figerprint mismatch.
So, good news, we can't be too far away from a proper fix.... I hope
Updated to ZP951 20150911-194355 and by the moment the notifications bug seems to be solved!!! I'm going to test the rest of bugs and will post the results ??
If you use the smart flip cover, when the phone receive a call and the cover is closed the phone doesn't ring :crying: :crying:
If the official (OTA) update does not work (mostly due to missing/deleted files) try to install "Speed 7 and Speed 7 Plus Galaxy Style V2 " from known source. This ROM is based on the official ROM and comes in two tastes: Updatable through flashing or through recovery.
Does anybody has the problem with a zoomed in front facing camera? The last firmware update resolved all of the know bugs for me, but front camera is slightly zoomed in right now. Does anybody has solution to (or has) this problem?

Hi,
to this bug:
In my case, phone with smart cover doesn't ring after reboot for FIRST incoming call. Every next incoming calls works correct.
And persisting bug - receiving of incoming call in Mini Windows App still causes applications crash.
Rejecting call works fine.

Question Issues with touchscreen accuracy?

Since I got my phone, I've noticed I often need to tap multiple times on the screen to "click" on what I want to open/activate. I never experienced something similar in the past with other devices.
At first, I thought it was a matter of screen sensitivity, but now I think it's more about the way the OS is registering taps.
See the following video: https://streamable.com/awblmr
There are two things:
If you click slightly above or on the side of an icon in the launcher, the app won't open. However, if you tap significantly below, it works fine (I prefer the latter behavior personally).
In chrome/bromite, if you swipe at the limit in between the tab icon and the status bar, it will both show tabs and pull the notifications.
Has anyone experienced this very irritating behavior? I mostly notice it when I want to do open apps, use the navigation bar, or type on the keyboard. It seems like it's a software "issue", so hopefully Google improves this.
I, too, am experiencing similar issues. I was chalking it up to the change from OP6t to the P6 until your post.

Good to know I'm not alone in this. I'm about to get a second unit, so I will do similar testing.
You are not alone. Same problem here with two Pixel 6 (mine and my wife's).
Just received my new unit, I have all the same display issues:
It feels cheap, especially in the middle:
https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1453025239537967105
Same rainbow effect when I tilt the phone
Same weird "touchscreen accuracy" as described here
Getting the unregistering taps on app icons. And also some lower app icon taps will open the app drawer. Both intermittently.

I do notice that the text below the icon seems to be part of the actual icon and if you click anywhere near that it will open the app. Other than that not really but I've only had it for a day or so. I have found that keeping my fingers moisturized eliminates errant touches and FP issues. Great for my skin but now I have to carry a little tube of Eucerine around.
I, too, was thinking it was just the slightly different keyboard position I still had to get used to...
I'm consistently having issues opening the emoji keyboard within Signal. I often have to repeatedly press the emoji button for the list to show up...

Same problems, especially on small items (like ships in Starfleet Command)
Definitely having this issue. With or without increased sensitivity. No screen protector.
Definitely experiencing touch accuracy issues in many places (pixel launcher, keyboard, quick settings, individual apps, settings, etc basically everywhere) I'd like to believe (hope) it's totally addressable in a software fix
I'm pretty sure the cause of this issue for me is that the phone is so big and heavy. It's hard for me to accurately touch the screen when my hand is struggling to hold the phone up.
This is part of why I hate the Pixel Launcher's "swipe up to open app drawer" gesture. It results in so many false positives when I'm just trying to click an icon, but the phone slips a bit and it gets registered as a swipe instead.
