[Q] Atrix Bootloader Unlock - Motorola Droid X2

Is there a way we can port the unlock motorola release for the atrix over to our Droid X2's? They just released the info on how to do it and many people have confirmed it is working. This is huge to start our development.

They just found out a few hours ago they can. Now it's a waiting game. It'll take more than a few hours. Give it time and we'll find the answer soon enough. Eventually motorola will allow the unlock anyway.

Oh baby. I wanna be here for when this happens. I am soooo ready for someone to cook up a decent 2.3 (2.4 whenever we can) ROM. I want to tear into these dual-cores at max performance.

You already are, from an application standpoint. It's a common misconception due to a Google dev's statement being taken out of context. Both cores are fully utilized on appropriately coded applications. It's only the core OS itself that isn't fully utilizing them correctly (stock GUI etc.)

OMG, Waiting for this one... Can't wait for a decent rom.

We still need a leaked SBF of any kind for the X2. The US version of the Atrix was rooted, utilizing information from a leaked Chinese (production) version of the GB update software. Not to say that a similar technique couldn't be utilized to unlock the X2, but not using that same file. We would need an unlockable leaked software version for our phone.

Im pretty sure all of this depends on an SBF file leak. That way there can be some more hardcore experimentation. But unlocking the bootloader seems huge.

I think I can get the bootloader unlocked if I can find the file with my device code. anybody have any clue im where I would find it. the atrix way to get it is to grep it out of an image file I would assume it is the same on our phone accept the file name. so if somebody can get me the file name I am willing to test the same method as the atrix.

OK so I know we already have seen a test release I just got a email from Motorola at 12 am offering me a new soak test of a finalized release..... they say this not a beta its what the final release will be.... currently I'm unlocked and running numerous roms at a time..... so what I'm wondering is if this is the same test already seen or something new.... anyone else still receiving or received one last night? I want to try it but scared to

dont do it, its 2.3.5 locks you bootloader and IMO breaks hdmi out
I got that email too, so if I do it, can I still root my phone? That's all I care to be honest, I need my 4g speeds lol
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
yes you can root, if you want to be lazy use voodoo root ota keeper in teh market to backup root
Since I'm rooted stock, and just waiting for stock ICS, I signed up for this. Custom ROMs not important to me on this phone.
I got the email as well. Im not even going to bother with it.

I'm doing it mostly out of hope that I'll have a better chance of being part of the ICS test.
How dies it break hdmi out. Or was that the first version. If this is revised I'm ok with that i am going to give it a shot ive found my 45.3.7 is a little buggy.

When they release the ICS update they will more than likely implement the same unlock kill method as found in the 3.5. And who wants a blurred ics with no ability to install custom roms? We need the release solely for the kernel and drivers. So even if it was ics, no one should update who plans on keeping the ability to flash customs. Then again, I'm sure it won't be long before a dev finds a way around this permalocking bull****.

Me - I'd be quite happy with that.
Although, I do vehemently object to Moto's locking on philosophical grounds. I'm still a hacker, but personally don't find much incremental value in customizing ICS. (Have stock ICS on my Xoom) I satisfy my hacking needs on the hardware side nowadays (not phones, other embedded things)

I didnt mean to exclude anyone. I know having 4g is important for some and keeps people locked. Others just don't know or don't care. But i feel comfortable in stating that 'most' people found in these forums arn't here to stay on stock, but to expand their phones capabilities to the edge of what is possible. I for one don't understand how anyone can see all the amazing work being done around here and not want to get involved. Being locked down would drive me insane. But eh, different strokes for different folks i suppose.
"Involvement" for 'most' people here involves nothing more than whining and demanding things 'the way I want it because everybody wants it that way.'
Personally, I value root access over everything else. That's what makes me happy. I have minor tweaks on my stock ROM that apparently have enough boost to where I don't see an improvement by flashing something else. I have yet to find a hacked-up 'upgrade' which runs as good or better.
The only thing I've gained so far from flashing different ROMs is too much visual candy which I can't stand and a handful of software that I somewhat rely on which either currently doesn't support anything above 2.3.5 or affects my daily use in a negative way.
But yeah, I'm with you. Do what makes you happy. And if it matters, I probably won't do the Motorola update that this thread was intended to talk about.

Hey, friend, no offense taken. You are very correct - most people here want custom ROMs. I enjoy watching and listening here, and fully understand and respect those who want custom ROMs.
Frankly, I probably burnt out in the WinMo days; I never just "had a phone". I now just like having a phone, and spending my hacking time elsewhere.
Cheers!
Maybe ICS Rollout to Test Users ?
I am keeping my fingers crossed for an ICS test rollout. According to Motorola ICS schedule, the ICS will supposedly rollout in Q3 for MoPho, which isn't too far.
It would be a shame if Moto sent this survey signup for another Gingerbread update. :-(
I recieved an email from them yesterday morning. The link brings me to a page saying the test is now for a Final Release. This is gonna be a GB 2.3.5 release for now. ICS in Q3 could mean as late as Sept 30, if Moto is on time with it.
For me, I'm not changing a thing. 4G is not available where I live and probably won't be for a while, if at all. So I value the ability to root and unlock more. After tryin different ROMs I'm liking blur less and the cleaness of AOSP more.
Right now the only thing I miss about blur is to have a separate notificatiin for VM instead of it being lumped with my SMS notifications, but I'm about to figure out what I want for that, too. After all, "There's an app for that".

If you're using google voice, you can alleviate that by signing into your google account at their actual website and finding your good voice settings.

But thanks for the link, it's a really good thread, full of real developers.
I saw a thread saying that jokersax and thebill are working on a method that might unlock the 2.3.5 bootloader somehow, but I can't find it right now. Is there a glimmer of hope that whatever they're working on along with these files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925102, that us 2.3.5 users MIGHT have some light at the end of the tunnel?

I get the feeling that by the time joker and thebill get this to work
1. Wimax will be dead
2. Most photon owners turned off my Moto's crappy customer service will have moved on to another device.
Not downplaying jokersax's and thebill's work. I was on MIUI and CM9 for a while before flashing back to stock. I just feel that the cliff is steep, and the rewards are small in comparison.

[Q] New to the (CDMA) XT912

I received my Razr today and I can't explain how much of a relief it is to own a half way decent phone. I was using the Thunderbolt and I can't begin to vent my frustration for that crappy device...
Anyway, I had some questions because I've noticed a few things that are slightly different in this device section on these forums... Hopefully some of you can clear the air.
1. I see there are some GSM and CDMA ROM's, so I am guessing the Razr isn't just for Verizon?
2. Is there anything I have to do prior to rooting my device? I heard the bootloader use to be locked and it required a lot of effort to get around it... I'm not sure if this is still the case or if someone has made a simple exploit to go around the loader.
3. What is the most popular method of rooting this device today? I see the EternityProject EasyRootICS 1.5 has a lot of views, would this be a good recommendation for rooting?
4. Sort of related to my last question, but I read awhile ago that the bootloader was unlocked but only one core worked. Is this still the case?
5. I looked for JB ROM's for the phone but I don't see any. Is there any other forums that have a JB CDMA XT912 ROM?
6. What else should I expect when it comes to rooting this device?
THANKS in advance!

1. CDMA is for Verizon, GSM is for all the others.
2. Yes, the bootloader it locked, and as far as I'm aware, it still hasn't been able to be unlocked. It is very easy to root the device, actually. There are many threads with many different methods of rooting. Just search for them.
3. If it works, it works!
4. Not sure, I haven't heard that. But I could be wrong.
5. I have searched far and wide as well (including off of XDA) and haven't been able to find any stable ones suited for everyday use.
6. Not sure what you mean by this, but rooting unlocks many new features of this device that really help to unleash its full potential.

Yes and no there are things that are different between the mx2 and dx2 the kexec tools and command will mostly likely be useable between the two along with the kernel except for a few differences like the wifi, but the pointer for where the kexec is supposed to load the kernel is different most likely

Theoretically have the kernels prepared to compile for base use and work. No display, wifi, ect. Will get around to compiling the kernel aand kexec command and tools eventually. Though I'm stuck at a stand still till I can somehow get the proper ATAGS.

I got around to talking to my inside Guy at my carrier. The Guy who made the kernel swap is not comfortable letting people outside the company have it but to let me know that it is possible to do I just have to figure out how.

Now, I hate to be a negative nancy, but the CDT.bin doesn't hold the entire ATAG... You would somehow need to get one from the device itself (or in our case, edit them from another phone to our needs). To be honest, I haven't really looked much at kexec these past few weeks, but I should be able to start back up sometime this week. PM me if you have any information that you think may help!!! Well everyone my phone is giving up the ghost. There are some unknown hardware failures that are causing massive power draw. Making the phone run hot with minimal processor use and the battery life has plummeted to going from full charge to empty in an hour or so. Charging is almost impossible because of this. I'm gonna try and get the kexec done before it fails completely.

I did not find mention of ATAGs in the following PDFs: Tegra2 Ref. Manual and Tegra2 Embedded Controller interface spec. There is allot of info to those manuals, quite a bit I do not understand. Do you have access to these manuals? I have them and a few notes (pages) "Tegra Boot Flow". They would probably be of some assistance to you or may reveal a different attack vector to achieve kexec2.
On a unrelated rant note I have hung on to CheeseCake and check yest and nothing.... (I Use it When SBF, ROm'n) I am still furious with Moto, hell if a no name brand tablet at K-Mart can have 512MB ram and Ice Cream or Jelly.... wtf

Cm10.1,Photon kernel

So as I understand it, the Photon has drivers issues which is why we dont have a port of for instant a droid bionic version of moto ICS, or moto jellybean. I am wondering what we need to get a kernel going. If this happened this would open up the possibility for doing webtop on a non stock rom.(Which I really would love cm 10.1 with ubuntop) I have been using linux for many years and am familiar with compiling and modifying kernels and packages I am just still new with android I came from the Epic 4G. I just would like to be pointed in the right direction or maybe someone who already makes kernels has attempted this and we could work together.
Thanks for your time.
You need source from Motorola and whatever company it was that Apple bought. You can try the Compendium thread for kernel links but as of now a new kernel is highly unlikely.
So then maybe we should look into writing our own? I mean if they can do it why can't we?

There's a thread over in the Atrix 4G forums where some people are working on a port from the Galaxy R kernel. You may want to follow that thread and offer your assistence there, because chances are that any progress that benefits the Atrix will benefit the Photon in the long run.

In theory that is sound, but the Atrix has a much newer kernel version than ours from the start (not sure how that happened with our device being more recent release). If you're planning to try, make sure that you have device protection or a good number of devices to work with....they've already hard bricked one or two from what I had seen.
What drivers are required, and I assume you mean for a 3.x kernel?

Unless you want to rev-eng a couple of parts of the kernel to make the GalaxyR kernel exaclty compatible with the Photon, you won't be able to use the stuff. Sorry.

maybe, jut maybe some day it will be leaked.
after the screwing Moto gave us he might as well post it. wtf are they gonna do? lock our damn phones?
My guess is it just never panned out and the guy didn't want to disappoint us. This was around the time of the Atrix leak, and that never amounted to anything, and a bunch of people got let down. It's my theory, which is far from concrete, that the leak included Photon files as well, that also never amounted to anything, but less was said here, so fewer people will be let down. I'm personally not worried. Come whatever may. My phone may not be able to do MMS or camcorder, or run Chrome or Swiftkey Flow, but I like it. It does the things I want it to. And it looks sexy as hell. I'd appreciate this mystery kernel or whatever, but I'm not gonna lose sleep if some mad scientist is holding out. Not saying that's what cybik is (I actually don't know much about him), just saying neither of the two extremes affect me much. And they shouldn't affect y'all either. If you're locked I'm sorry, that sucks, so is my brother, but you can run Holo Launcher/Locker and use either utter!, Maluuba, or Dragon Go! for voice commands/personal assistant, Notification Toggle for, well, the toggles, and Dolphin for your browser, and that puts you fairly close to Android 4. Motoblur can't keep a WiFi lock to save its life, but there are apps for that... I'm trying to test one on my wife's phone, but I'm not getting very good data from it. If you're unlocked, you have a lot of good choices as it is.
I may be an Atrix owner, but if the 2.6.39.4 kernel that is being dev'd for the Atrix is a success, couldn't you take the post-dev'd 2.6.39.4 kernel and port it to the Photon?
