[Q] Install drivers on android - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought usb network adapter and I want to plug it to my samsung i9100. I found drivers for this usb network adapter (For Android 1.x/2.x/3.0, Linux kernel 2.6.14 and later) but I don't know how to install it to my device. Help me please!

What are you aiming to do with your device??? I'm trying to understand why you would want to attach a network adapter to your phone, when wifi is included.

he might not have access to a wifi router or AP. either way i think i'd be much easier to buy a wifi ap than the route you're taking.

I need this for my work. Check link signal. I do not like to carry my unhandy laptop. Network tester can not always help because it can't show ip in cable.

You are going to need to cross compile the kernel module.
Then from a terminal editor
su
insmod /path/to/module.ko
You also might need to write a udev rule in order for the phone to see it.

"CONFIG_USB_USBNET" in ".config" this will also compile "./drivers/net/usb/asix.c" ... but need testing.
./drivers/net/usb/Kconfig ->
[...]config USB_NET_AX8817X[...]
This driver should work with at least the following devices:

Problems with USB tethering and portable hotspot after flashing to XWLPD

I just flashed from GB to ICS (XWLPD) and both my USB tethering and portable hotspot functions are no longer working. My PC recognizes the network adapter (usb case) and lets me connect to the phone (portable hotspot case) but there is no Internet access. Any help would be much appreciated.
my apologies in advance if this is a known issue with ICS. I didn't find any reference to it in my searches
no issues here, did you wipe?
I did not. Think it will help? I was hoping to avoid that since the tethering is the only functionality issue I seem to have.
What USB tethering program are you using?
In my stock NEE LPD, the only tethering options native to the ROM are bluetooth and wi-fi. There is no USB tethering option in there.
What ROM and Kernel did you have before? You mentioned GB, but was it a totally stock ROM?
If you're using a 3rd party program to enable USB tethering, check to see if the app is ICS-compatible.

I have only been using the stock roms provided by Infratech and the tethering functions native to Android.
at first I thought some new android ics app was blocked by droidwall, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I will definitely try a wipe this weekend, and hopefully it works out. thanks for the suggestion atifsh.

[Q] Using ADB with Sony Tablet S - ICS 4.0.3.r1a

Hi, i am new to the xda developers forum and i got a question about the android debugger, since i'm clueless what to do after several hours of searching :silly:
I have an Sony Tablet S with ICS version 4.0.3.r1a (not rooted) and i want to use it for app developing.
Sadly sony does not provide drivers out of the box, so i have to search for working drivers myself. I know, they provide a description of lines, you have to add to the google driver, and i have tried two different methods to get adb working, but my devices still does not show up in the adb devices list.
method 1 (automated driver installer): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488822
method 2 (google driver modification): http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/suppo...=684a6e492d1523ff4081def0a00b48a1&info_id=878
The device seems to use the driver, since it shows up as Android Composite ADB Interface in the devmgmt, but it still does not show up in the adb devices list.
Here some Facts about my os and settings:
My PC:
OS: Win7 ultimate x64
adb-version: 1.0.29
google usb-driver version: 7.0.0.1
My Tablet:
Android-Version: ICS 4.0.3.r1a
USB-Debugging is enabled
Other sources for apps are allowed
here some pictures of my file contents & devices:

My head is smoking atm, so i hope you know more about drivers and adb as i do and maybe someone of you had the same problem and can help me, i would be really greatful.
So long,
r3bel
Finally i found a solution of my problem...
As simple as it was, i could kick myself ... the driver seems to have a problem with my usb 3.0 controller, the adb finds the device if it is plugged into a usb 2.0 port.
maybe this helps others who have the same problem
I had same problem (it was working before) and I did system restore to get it to work.
Then I could able to root my tablet.
How did you solve the usb problem?

[Q] GK802 and persistent ethernet settings (SOLVED)

Hi
I use an usb-to-ethernet dongle with the gk802 and would like to:
enable ethernet by default at boot
disable wifi by default at boot
#2 is no problem however I have trouble acheiving #1
At start up ethernet is always disabled and one has to go into "Settings->Wireless & Network->More->Ethernet" to enable it. Not very wife&kids friendly.
I wrote a script that waits until init.svc.bootanim was "stopped" then issues a
Code:
setprop ctl.start "dhcpcd_eth0:-h `getprop net.hostname` eth0"
However while ethernet work and I can ping and browse the web just fine, Android framework doesn't seem to know about the new connection. Various apps got confused (sshd says "no connection" and refuses to start). Play-Store hangs on "Waiting for network" when trying download large apps without enabling Wifi. Time-of-day goes back to Jan-1, 1970. etc.
The difference that I can see in "logcat" is that
Using the GUI, ConnectivityService is aware of the new ethernet connection.
Code:
EthernetStateTracker(2146): report new state CONNECTED on dev eth0
....
ConnectivityService(2146): ConnectivityChange for ETH: CONNECTED/CONNECTED
...
Without the GUI, ConnectivityService is NOT aware of the state change
Code:
EthernetStateTracker(2146): report new state CONNECTED on dev eth0
Also, in /data/data/com.android.provider.settings/databases/settings.db,
if wifi was enabled, "select * from secure where name = 'wifi_on';" would return 1
if ethernet was enabled, "select * from secure where name = 'ethernet_on';" would return 2
(What's the meaning of 1 and 2 in settings?)
Any one managed to get a persistent settings for ethernet on the gk802?
problem solved: in the script I use:
Code:
service call ethernet 2 i32 2
Hi bogolisk,
Would you mind sharing the full script you are using, and also some basic instructions on how to use/install it?
I would really like my ethernet to auto-start as well. Thanks a lot!
Kind Regards

Can't install Daemon on my phone

Hello there,
I'm new here and I'm looking for help from people much more talented than me
I am trying to create an automatic script for a game, I use the application Ankulua and its language lua to do this. So far I've been using my phones - Nexus 4 and Nexus 5X - to test my scripts (no problem).
For Ankulua to work, you must either install "Daemon" or root the phone. I opted for the first solution because it was the simplest / fastest and most accessible for me.
Install Daemon asks to put his phone in developer mode and you accept USB debugg mode. Then you have to launch a .bat file when your phone is connected to the computer. I had no problem with my Nexus 4 and 5X.
My initial goal was then to buy a "low cost" phone to run my script 24/24 ideally. I opted to buy the Servo H1 on Aliexpress. It has an Android 6.0 and is really cheap, it was perfect for me.
Only, the trouble starts ..., while doing the previous steps, I block at the installation of Daemon:
1 / I can put the phone in developer mode
2 / I can accept the USB debug mode
3 / When I connect my phone to the computer, it happens more or less to recognize it and the phone charges. But there are strange things in the device manager that indicate that Windows does not recognize the phone well. I asked the seller for drivers but I have not managed to change much.
3 / When I run the .bat file, I have an error:
"Version: 1.7.1
Daemon installation
Connecting device ...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
There is no device detected.
Please make sure the USB driver is connected to the PC. "
And sadly, without Daemon, no possibility to launch my script via Ankulua ... I am so blocked and I do not have the knowledge to root this phone, and knowing that it is very little known, I can not find anything on Internet.
Also, I will be very grateful if anyone could help me in this process. I am ready to start a rootage if it is imperative but I would like to avoid.
I put some pictures, I do not know if it can help.
Thanks in advance,
Roman

Question Phone is not detected by the laptop

Hi,
I just bought a new laptop with USB-C port, and when I plug in my Xperia 1 III, it only charges the phone, and won't detect it as a storage device.
I'm using USB-C cable that I got inside original box.
Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?
Phone doesn't offer me to choose transfer mode, when I plug it to a laptop's USB-C port.
Go to Disk Management and scan for new devices. Access directly from there.
Is the driver for that phone installed, check Hardware Management>USB hubs etc try to update driver or roll back if that fails.
If it doesn't show, use known good cable and inspect phone C port for damage or contamination. Can the phone see other OTG devices?
Try another port on the PC.
Reboot PC.
Play with USB options in phone Developer options. If already on, try turning Developer options off.
Check Event Viewer in Windows for error messages after attempting to connect.
Play with it... you'll find to issue eventually.

I tried everything, and also change USB connectivity in Developers options to File transfer.
Is original cable that comes in a box able for data transfer, or only for charging the device?
I found this in specifications of my laptop, does this means that my USB-C port is unable to recognize my phone?

I doubt that's it. The protocols are generally backward compatible.
Have you got a USB-2 hub lying around? Try going thru that and see if it works.
Hi guys,
I just bought a new data cable (USB-A to USB-C), and it works perfectly.
Thank you for all information you provided
