[Q] Does Anyone Know About Memory Expansion - TouchPad General

I took a quick look at the teardown and it seems that the flash memory is soldered. Do you think there will be any way to expand the memory in the future by utilizing the USB port that is available. I bought a 16GB unit and im wondering if I should have bought a 32GB one....

I was thinking the same thing, but at the same time, for $99, 16GB is more than enough. Assuming after partitions and system files, we're looking at roughly 13-14GB left. That should be more than enough, especially considering this (most likely) isn't meant to replace the PC/Laptop.
For me, this is more of a lounge on the cough/bedroom tablet

I was thinking more for a possible future andriod/windows 8 port...

The only possible way (hoping that they have usb host mode) is to put either an extra HDD through USB or a small card reader with a 8 or 16gb sd or mini sd card on it for storage.

There isn't a full size usb port so not sure how that could be done.

As I see here it has a micro-USB port. All you need is an adapter

i was hoping for something that i could make internal....

I knew there was a micro-usb port, but didn't know you could use an adapter to make it work.

if it has the host mode it will be possible with just an adapter. Once I get mine (hopefully next week) I will let you know for sure

it's pretty much like the iPad, the internal memory is fixed.

Its not possible to get someone to desolder it and then solder something with more space?

what if we did something like a small internal usb splitter hooked up to some flash memory??

mini usb cables

can i use a regular mini usb cable to send files to my phone and or trickle charge it from my computer if my charger isnt available.
i know this seems like kind of a retarded question but the mini usb that came with my phone i lost.. and i know that the end looked a little different then a regular mini usb.
thanks
Yup, I am using a generic one to transfer files. It is recommended to find one with a choke on it but I have used both. The choke looks like a bead or a barrel in the cable near the one end.

what exactly does the choke do?
where have you seen this recommendation?
The "choke" is just a ferrite bead that stops electro-magnetic leakage from the cable so it doesn't interfere with other electronics. I usually cut them off to make a lighter and easier cable to route around my work areas.
look around, you will see the recommendations whenever someone is flashing a rom or working around the inner workings of Android. If your just transferring pics and stuff no big deal, only when you really care about the quality of data will it matter

Umm, the one that I got with the phone wasn't mini-USB. It was extUSB. miniUSB works as well but I find it harder to insert so I just use extUSB. I tried some miniUSB cables that have two of those magnetic protections. extUSB also sits very good in the socket.
My camera, my old cell phone, my G1, and my BT headset all use the same mini USB plug and I use them all interchangeably without any ill effect. I prefer to use the one that came with the G1 at my house while making themes and doing lots of flashing but I use the other ones too for the same things and have never had an issue.

Full size USB adapter

I know the dock will have 2 full size USB ports. But honestly I'd rather just have a little adapter that I can plug into it.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will have one so hopefully Asus or another brand will produce one to compete!
Would something like this do the trick?

Oh gawd! With this delay and endlessly searching for release times, I forgot about that
How about a dual Female A USB adaptor
Amazon: USB 2.0 Adapter Female A- Female A
...plugged to the cable adaptor that comes in the box?
The cable also has data connectivity for data transfer, it probably should do the trick.
I believe the HongKong electronic shops would come to the rescue. They are known to produce many useless converter before. I don't see why not this time. Probably straight from ASUS connector to USB.
I posted something on on Asus' Campus Life. Please his reply to it and respond requesting this accessory! Look for username Dean.

I hope they make something similar to the hinge on the keyboard dock, so it can actually latch on and has the two usb's and the SD slot, it would also make a nice grip when using the tf vertically. From the pics, what they have so far looks like it's going to stick out a lot and with something that big there is definitely more of a chance it will get knocked out and possibly damage the port.
Dont we have to have usb host support first for the transformer and dont we have to wait for honeycomb 3.1 for that?

Doesn't look so. And some people reported that Female A - Female A adaptors work for some devices (those that have their own power source probably) - there is a thread about it somewhere in this forum. I tried it but my pendrives nor mouse didn't work (there is probably no power line in the USB cable that is used for charging and connecting to computer).

HDMI Display Along With USB Features

I looking for a little information as to if it is possible to mirror using HDMI and simultaneously utilize the USB functions for mass storage and other USB connectivity. I would like to build a media station but before I gathered up all the items necessary I wanted to know if it is possible?
As you know, the mini usb out to MHL adaptor is used for HDMI mirroring. When you plug your charger into the MHL adaptor it is for powering only the MHL. So, no you can't use usb for anything.
Can you do whatever else you want by bluetooth or wifi? Like keyboard or mouse or what?
I have not been around for a while I have lost touch with things but I know that MHL is for mirror display. I had older phones where I made concoctions where I could charge and at the same time use USB functions. Just needed a lil help with the pin out to know if it was possible or not. I want to use my device as a media center where it is the game console, substitute PC, and etc. Just trying to find a way to make that happen.

Friend, don't take my response the wrong way. I am not being condesending. When I answer a question I try to answer not just to you but to the others that may read our discusion and not know what you know. So please, no offense intended at all.
Anyway, is there any possibility using bluetooth or wifi?

If anyone is looking for the samething as I was check out the threads that show you how to Bluetooth the PS3 controlled to your android device. I have done it, and it is awesome.

So my bluetooth suggestion was the correct direction? Cool. I didn't think the MHL adaptor our phone uses was flexible at all.
Thanks for sharing.
If you feel you need the credit then it is all yours. Congrats!

No thanks, keep it. You seem very stingy.

got a Micro SD Card from your old phone full of media and such?

With OTG cable and a tiny little reader you can use it
get otg cable from amazon, and this micro Sd card reader http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HGFKR8/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
super tiny and it works great.
cost for both items under 15 bucks shipped.
Only thing I've noticed, the One couldn't read my 64 GB card formatted in xFat, I reformatted it FAT 32 and it works fine
Gunny, any particular OTG cable you recommend or use for your One?
I don't even remember which one I got. They're all the same. Check monoprice also.

I have this small OTG. I haven't tried it in my one, but it works in all my nexus devices and worked in my GS3 (currently has a 32 GB tiny USB drive plugged into it)

I got it on ebay
Here is one I just found there
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Pcs-Right...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a7c365fb4
If you search you can find straight ones as well (with the right angle they don't always fit if you have a case on depending on the case)
edit: found one http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Micro-B...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a7bb42146
just bought this one. It's straight and tiny! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281092608855

Nice, I plan on picking up a straight one too. The only case I had issues with using the right angle one is my nexus 7. I like using the right angle better since it runs parallel with the bottom of the phone/tablet instead of sticking out of it hence making it a bit less noticeable. I mostly use it on my nexus tablets.
Do you happen to know if a split cable with usb charging on it was ever made to work, or can the port not be a host and charge at the same time?

Hello Guys,
I don't know is should start this thread or not, just thought i should share this amazing device.
Black MHL To HDMI HDTV Adapter OTG Card Reader Connection Kit
It let you connect to HDMI without external power, also if you use external power you can use HDMI and USB hard drive at the same time, it is just really really amazing, Sammy has really improved their MHL and OTG support.
Note: I am using this device on my Note 3 N9005 I am not sure about other devices

Mhl 2.0?
Iv been dealing with these for about a year now. From my s3 to my note 3. With the s3 it's 2.0 so you have to provide external power but these things are the tits when it comes to the note 3 with 3.0 you can run USB and HDMI without power. I play games and use it for work with all wireless accessories it's awesome. Supports 1080p at 60hrtz. We sell them in our repair shop and on Ebay. Not often though as "normal" people don't see the capabilities of this lol.
Go buy one their awesome.

It's not immediately apparent, but the device pictured (and others like it, one of which I have) do have a port for charging: the micro usb. When I got mine it took me a minute to realize that, then it hit me that power would really be the only use for that port. So I plug one of my Sammy charging cables into it during use.
