Has anyone purchased the Keyboard Dock? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey All,
I bought the keyboard dock for my gtab yesterday and I love it so far, however i notice the blue "connected" light flickers a lot and it intermittently doesnt detect a keystroke, its almost like the connection isnt right. Although I can vouch that the tab is firmly in the dock, im runnin a rooted tw stock rom with the pershoot 1.4 overclock kernel. Im wondering if this could be a software issue or if i should take this back due to a fault, i really hope its not the tab!
Thanks!

Hi, I am using my keyboard dock with no issues. Only very occasionally it multiplies the first letter I press right after the tablet connection. A back-space corrects it and everything continues fine. During my 4 weeks of use, it happened maybe 3-4 times only. For the rest it works perfectly.
By the way, it seems I am using the same ROM as you.
If you are experiencing recurring problems with the keyboard, maybe it is a faulty unit and I would suggest replacement.

Can anyone confirm that the dock 30 pin connector allows the use of the USB adaptor? I read a review that seemed to imply that, but want some confirmation.
Any concrete info on the SD card adaptor working would be great as well. ...
Also wondering if the tab will fit in the dock with a slim silicone case, if not can the dock be modified? I'm not afraid to hack it up if it could be done right. ....but I'd rather it fit without having to do that.

Anyone experiencing issues with the Motorola Navigation Dock?

I purchased the 89529N Motorola Navigation dock and for some reason it's not recognizing my Droid Razr.
I watched several videos on youtube and it showed the Razr entering car mode as soon as placed into the dock and the sliding micro-USB plug inserted.
While my droid recognizes that it's charging, it doesn't enter Car Mode, does not launch the Motorola Car Finder app upon removal nor does it output audio via the USB-Audio Cable.
I've spent some time looking to see if other people are having this issue and the only other report I've found is a review on the product via Amazon:
amazon.com/Motorola-89525N-Vehicle-Navigation-Charger/product-reviews/B005W8NLG0/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar
I have now gone through 3 of these docking stations. I WANT it to work but after the phone snaps into the mount (nicely managed) there is a squared black slider that has the male USB end that is supposed to slide into the top of the phone's USB port. This connection was flaky in the first two units i purchased and i ended up needing to slide a business card in behind the phone to put enough pressure to cause the phone Car App to start and for the port to think it had a power cable inserted...
The business card approach finally quit working this morning (11.21.2011) so I took the unit into a local Verizon Store and showed them. This happened with 3 RAZR phones from the store so it was not the phone. I then ended up going through 3 of the car dock boxes and the first two ALSO had this problem. The third unit worked but i had to push the black slider back a tad to put some positive pressure on it before it will slide into the phones USB port...
I need this thing to work. I want the Car Nav App to start and for the phone to charge... Verizon, you need to take a look at the design of this device. The quality of it seems fine. It is sturdy and mounts wonderfully but the slider idea seems to be a problem.

So, does anyone else with this dock have the same problem?
I had the same issue with mine. It worked for the first few days then it tanked. Returned to Verizon for another unit. This one has been working for the past.
Check the RAZR forums on the Motorola support site and there are several other folks that have been experiencing the same issue.
No problems at all with the car dock. I use it daily and it has always worked as advertised.
How long is the power cable the comes with the version of the car dock that comes with a power cable?
If it's not super long I may just buy the cheaper version of the dock.
I had the same problems with my first dock. I returned it and got another and so far so good. A couple of times it's failed to recognize the phone, but sliding out the usb and putting it back usually fixes it.
I bought the car dock and so far it works perfect. I drove about 1100 miles over the holidays, and it worked perfectly the entire trip with a CHEAP generic micro USB cable and CHEAP generic car charger from monoprice.com Phone was running GPS and nav the whole time and I was impressed that it never got hot or too warm (just EVER SO SLIGHTLY warm. My old HTC Incredible would get hot as hell running GPS for several hours)

I did have the problem when I first received the dock. After studying the dock I realized the bottom plate can be removed. I did just that and the holder works great. Can even use it with the protection case.
I've also had my car dock for some time now and have been using it with a commuter series OtterBox. I've seen no problems with it, in fact while running Google navigation since the new update I've not seen any substantial overheating issues at all. Overall I'm very pleased with its operation. It is a little disconcerting to hear several of you have had problems with it.
I have not had any issues with this dock. The HD dock, yes but so far I love this navigation dock over the one my Thunderbolt and Original Moto Droid had. However, where do you people find this USB/Audio cable? I purchased the mount right from verizon and it did not come with it. Can't seem to find the cable anywhere either.

It doesn't have a picture and the description makes it sound like a basic usb cable that's really expensive, but I ordered it for the same reason you are and I can assure you that it is a basic USB cable that's really expensive... with the audio dongle on the end. At $20 it's a bit of a rip-off, but it's what you need.
mine works like a champ, it gets used on a daily basis.

I just bought the car dock, is there a way to setup a alternative navigation app?
I want to use Sygic instead of Google Maps. Anyone?

You can add an app of your choice on the "Music" page of the Navigation app.
Thanks found it! i hope Moto will update the Car Dock so you can choose your own software
I don't have my Razr yet to test this, but try the Car Home Ultra app. It's fully customizable and can be launched by the dock.

I've had my car dock now for about a month, and it works like a charm for me. Car Home Ultra is a great app and you can add a bunch of different apps to it's home screen so you can set it up the way you want.
I have 2 car docks it use to work on both now it doesn't work on either of them, ever since i re flashed using 9.8.2O-124_SPUL-18_Rogers_P005_A006_S1FF_fb_CFC.xml.

Another problem: keyboard dock does not work

I was told there was a thread about this, but the only one I found was at transformerforums.com
Anyways, a new Prime and completely functional with decent WiFi and no screen problems. But the keyboard does not work on the dock, nor does the touchpad. Some have said that top row of keys work and others don't, but not even these work on mine.
I was also told to charge it fully first, but that made no difference.
It does not work after ICS and firmware update either.
Charging however works and Prime can detect the dock.
I will return it on Monday, but wondered if maybe there is something I could try or if it is a settings problem or of someone else suffers from the same thing.

It sounds as though he has it connected, but it's just not doing anything at all. I have no idea why it would do that

Cheers! My problem is different though. Keyboard never works, top row does not work, touchpad either. I think it's quality control issue, disconnected someplace. Input settings make no difference.
Weird is that it is charging and detects it though.

The ones that guard the holes that the dock holds onto, to the right and left of the charge port.

Perhaps the connector inside the dock is loose, if you can open the dock its probably an easy fix. But If I were you I'd just return it and order a new one. I can live without the dock, but not without the tablet.
Same problem here - when charging put the dock on and off some times and it will work upon You take it off of wall charger.
With microHDMI-out it also seems to work better, but then not every time. With battery use maybe in 10% of time.
Same here.... the dock decides to work at will and so far, the only keys working have been the top row. None of the other keys have shown any interest to work yet. I have done several factory resets, updated to ICS (manual of course as my tablet has the serial number unknown issue which is a different kind of pain in the ass). Frankly, I am starting to hate ASUS. The only thing that is keeping me from returning it is the fact that it looks so sleek and beautiful both with and wothout dock. Wonder, how long will I resist from returning it though
Do you guys have the Asus keyboard as your default on-screen keyboard? Mine worked with thumb keyboard as the default then all the sudden one day nothing but the top row worked.
I remember a message saying to ensure the default on-screen keyboard was Asus so i changed it and then everything starting working great again. Not sure if just coincidence or not but thought I'd share...

Intermitent Dock connectivity

Hey all,
I've had my Prime for a while now and it's been fine for the most part, but up until recently it's been a bit glitchy since i had it rma'd. So i have to be really methodical about how i put the screen over the dock, the dock however ( i have two) are both brand new and have never been used.
It's a strange issue, the tablet itself charges first time everytime, the pins and connector appear perfectly (i work with circuits like these for a living)
I thought there might be a loose connection to do with the usb connectivity for the keyboard, as the mouse pad seems to be affected the most, the problem occurs if i leave the tablet off for a while, however if a i leave it on for a long time, connectivity remains.
Does anyone else have any issues with theirs and is there anything that they did to rectify the issue? i don't want to pull this thing apart to fix something silly.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks.

broken charger port....

Ok, let me start out by saying that I'm not posting this in the Q&A section because it's not really a problem that I am seriously thinking about fixing, I just want to get some of ya'lls opinions on it.
Heres the thing: I bought the TF201 the day it came out, along with the keyboard dock, spent something like 700 bucks (leanred a very valuable lesson on that one). About 6 months after that, on day, the black plastic peice that I later learned "kept the charging pins inside of the charging port on the tablet separte and straight" just fell out. Upon further research I discovered that a few others had been experiencing this, and it was apparently a design flaw that would happen if you didn't separate the tablet from the keyboard perfectly straight (i.e. separate one side of the tablet from the keyboard, then at an angle, pull the other side out.) Now, I realize how dumb it was that I was even doing that in the first place, but what can I say. So here's where i'm at now: About 6 months ago, the actual charging usb cable that came with it just completely fell apart. I ordered two new ones. These are not "exactly" the same as the original one and I cannot get it it plug into the tablet directly (probably due to the fact that there is no plastic peice keeping the pins in place, and I dnon't want to push to hard becuase if I bend those pins it's game over). I can, however plug the cable into the keyboard, and the tablet WILL plug into the keyboard quite effortlessly and charge that way. Also, as a side note, nothing on the keyboard works, not a single button, not the track pad, nothing, the only thing it does is charges the tablet, and the keyboard itself will also take a charge.
Whew, ok, if you're still with me after all that, here's what i want some opinion on: Is this thing worth trying to salvage, I would like to get the keyboardworking as well as somehow replace that peice that fell out of the tablet charging port. I honestly do love the tablet, I have a slight weekness in wifi signal but no big deal, and the screen is amazing. so, any thoughts?
I'd say you're screwed :/

Yeah, Thats what i'm thinking. I mean, I still use the tablet all the time, I just can't charge it directly from the port, I have to use the keyboard, the biggest issue I have is that I really wan tthe keyboard to work. Maybe I should just try to pick on up cheap, I don't know....last time I'm buying ASUS though.

Firstly, i would like to inform you that i'm one more person that i had problem with the charger and that the main reason that i don't use my Asus so much is that his wifi signal is really disappointing.
Concerning your problem, you cannot use your keyboard while you charge your tablet through it, right?

Keyboard Dock Issue

I'm having a somewhat nonsensical issue with my keyboard dock: The keyboard does not work at all, the trackpad works perfectly, battery works, the dock port to connect to the computer works, the dock USB port supplies power (judging by the light from my optical mouse), but the tablet doesn't seem to detect anything connected to the USB port, i have not tested the dock SD slot.
I also connected a TF201 to my dock with no difference in the symptoms displayed.
Any ideas? Or am I out a dock?
Thanks!

Hate to be that person, but I have to exact same problem! My tablet is running Cynanogen Mod 11. It still charges and the trackpad works, but the keyboard is 100% unresponsive. Whenever I plug in the dock it asks me to choose the keyboard layout in the notifications bar as well.
It seems that a few other people have this problem, I did find another thread about this exact same problem but it was from a long time ago and all they said was for the guy to return it and get it replaced.
It just does not seem to make sense that the track pad, charging station, and USB port for file transfer and stuff would work, but not the keyboard. I thought I might have changed a setting but I just factory reset the tablet and reinstalled Cynanogen Mod 11 and it still doesn't work . If anyone can enlighten us... that would be great!
Finally,
I read somewhere that you can cold boot the device. Here are the steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/ASUS_Transformer_Pad/TF300T#Cold_Boot
That method didn't work for me however, but idk maybe it will work for you.
I have no idea where the warranty card is, or how that even works but I heard ASUS warranty just sucks, so that is probably not an option for me. If it helps I bought mine off amazon.com a year ago or so.

Cold-Booting doesn't fix it for me either and i'm out of warranty, so ASUS isn't gonna be much help to me either...

not sure if you have solved this yet but I had the same problems and it turned out that one of the kids had knocked the keyboard off my desk and it had loosened a connection internally within the keyboard.
I found a youtube video of how to fix it, unscrewed the back of the keyboard and carefully popped the connector back in place.
It's a bit fiddly and took me about 30 mins to do with average electronics related knowledge

Nevermind, opened it up anyways and saw exactly the same problem. Reconnected the cable and the keyboard worked again after months of thinking it was just broken. Pretty chuffed and quite amazed, probably wouldn't have even attempted it if it wasn't for your post and this thread. Thanks for the information, very much appreciated here
