[Q] Transformer without USB with 8.6.6.9-20110804 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I've a problem with my Asus Transformer (wifi version)
Today I tried to connect it to the PC with the USB cable and nothing happened: no charging, no usb detection on PC. Can you help me?
I think the cable is ok because I can charge the pad with the cable and the AC. I restored the tablet to factory defaults 3 weeks ago, after updating to 3.2. After that I sent the tablet to ASUS for warranty because a problem I had with the AC. They returned me the same tablet, cable and AC with a "Test ok" message, so I think they made no modification.
But today I've listened that a new firmware versions is landed, the 8.6.5.9. I looked at mine and I have a new one, 8.6.6.9!! I don't know if it was the update I made at first days of August.
The thing is that now I can't connect the pad to the PC. ¿Maybe is for the firmware version? ¿Someone with the same problem?
Thx

I'm not sure its firmware. Sounds to me like a bad usb connection. Can you verify all the pins are in place in your device?

Yes, I think the pin's are all ok, I can't see nothing bad there. It can be a problem with the firmware? Is it normal this 8.6.6.9-20110804? I read that people now have the 8.6.5.9-20110816

Transformer Prime charging problem

Hy all
I received my asus transformer prime some hours ago. I have the problem that my device does not charge when I put in the cable into my computer. But the device connets to the computer and is known as Transformer prime.
The only way to charge it in a slow mode is to turn off the screen, plug in into the computer and wait. Then it charges about 5 percent in an hour. I guess this way it charges only with 5V instead of 15V. I don't use any extension cables.
Where to you think is the problem and how can I solve it? There are other posts in other forum with the same problem.
Did anyone else had this problem? Thank you in advance. (sorry for my english)
You can only charge it with a wall charger officially -> there us no problem

No charging with USB? Are you sure?
I can't use the US charger because I live in Europe. But I ordered now the charger from Transformer Prime - seams to be the same - for Europe. Maybe this helps.
Try this

Thank you - i will try this tool and buy an US/EU adapter. Hope it works.
The instructions in the online PDF for the TF101 state that you can ONLY charge on straight USB with the unit OFF. I doubt that would change for the TF102
Is the adapter only 110v? If not just get something like this:

My wife has the original transformer and it will charge from my computer ONLY when the screen is off (weird right?) and even so, it charges sooo slow that way. She left it over night and it went from 18% up to 47%!
I'm still waiting for my Prime. Can someone confirm or deny this same tactic will work with it? You're better off getting the wall charger, but it might do in a pinch.
The problem is that the device goes ON if I plug it into the computer . Okay, I have to shut down the device after I plugged in.
There s thread in the original transformer forum that dig into the charging needs of the transformer.
The short version is, you need a 12v output, most standard USB AC only output 5v.
And you need to use the Asus USB wire, standard USB wire doesn't support 12volt current.
I did find a generic 12v AC with a USB port, priced around 10 euros in EU, it's not uber commun but I found it in a general store, so you shouldn't have to much problem getting one somewhere.

This does still work - I can confirm. But don't have so much time all the time
you guys should not be surprised at the charging speed on USB2.0. Most USB ports (unless you're using a newer motherboard) max out at 500ma. You can do the math.
Most tablets don't charge at all via USB to PC. This is because they have bigger batteries and the PC USB standard power output is 5v. Having it charge at all via USB is a blessing, but will not be practical in most situations. However, I am glad to have the option.
It would be nice to have the USB standard on PC increased to handle this, but maybe USB 4.0.
There is an extension to USB 3.0 that is being proposed that will allow up to 100 watts of charging. Should be seeing it in 2012.

Will this charge in a USB 3.0 port can anyone confirm? And does it requires turning it off?

Try the program I posted earlier in this tread. Works with any PC motherboard and will charge your tablets.

I have that program with my Asus mobo it does NOT charge your tab faster and does not even notice it is there like it does with a Ipod
Solution to Transformer Prime not charging problem
I'm not an apologist for ASUS, their UK tech support was useless and offered the only solution as a return for repair.
So you can be sure you have the same problem. My Prime worked perfectly (brilliant piece of kit!) but two days again stopped taking charge. Keypad drained completely, tab was down to 25% before I realised I had to do something. ICS has been downloaded.
ASUS told me it was the transformer plug not working - wrong I tested the output. Charge was not beinbg taken when cable was plugged into a PC or a an alternative USB transformer either.
ASUS told me it was the cable not working - Wrong - it woke the device up when plugged in.
ASUS told me it was because the new firmware was the problem and it shoudl go back to them for resetting to Android 3. Wrong.
ANSWER - Simples, reset with a paper clip using the small hole by the SD card in the Tab. Ten seconds. Restart.
Tablet and Dock start to recharge instantly. No problems since. No setting seem to be lost, all Skype contacts, Wireless passwords intact.
Don't panic and don't send it back. Hope this helps.
Spread the word gret piece of kit, just ignore the ASUS help....
Thanks a lot
you made my day,it was not charging at all..the asus prime came from singapore and im currently in india it wasnt charging at all now it works perfectly.all i had to do was reset the pad .then it started charging ..
Just to double check, what effect does this reset have on the software. Any apps/data/settings lost? Does it revert the software to an older version?

P7500 (WiFi/3G) doesn't charge, instead goes into MTP mode when plugged in!

I don't know if anybody else has had this problem before, but I hope there is somebody out there who can help me with my problem.
Basically, until a few days ago, my Galaxy Tab 10.1 was working fine until I did a reinstall from a backup as I was having a problem with the device due to it running sluggishly slow and crashing every so often.
Now, for some weird reason, the device won't charge at all when the USB cable is plugged into the official USB AC Adaptor and instead all I get is the "MTP Initialization" message that somebody would usually get when connecting the Tab 10.1 to a PC or Laptop.
It seems to charge when hooked up to a laptop very slowly but that's about it.
If there's anybody out there who can help me fix this problem, it would be most appreciated at all (to be honest, I can't wait until I go back to university in September and I can sell this POS and buy a 64GB Transformer Pad Infinity instead!)
EDIT: I've tried another cable and now it's saying that it's MTP-Connected instead of not MTP-Connecting at all!
Bump as I have a feeling that this isn't a one-off problem and that it's affecting a lot of other Tab 10.1's as well...
Never had that issue.
Are you sure your cable is ok?
Having exactly the same problem, no idea how to fix it at all. Looks like it's faulty usb port, because sometimes my laptop 'recognize' the tablet, but it's very rare (don't really know what does it depend on). I'm afraid sending the tablet to service is the only solution .
Try a different charger, different cable and check the port for debris
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
I've checked the port and there's no debris in it, I've checked the new cable that I've bought and it's already worn through from the look of things at the end with the plug that connects to the device itself.

TF201 and PC will not connect

Greetings!
So, recently, my Transformer Prime stopped being able to connect to my PC. When plugged in, the Prime does show that it is receiving current on the cable, as the charging symbol shows up, but that is all. Windows shows no indication that the Prime is plugged in. This includes looking in Disk Management and in Device Manager. Nothing. Oh, and USB debugging on the Prime is turned on.
I have tried two different cables (both of which will definitely charge the unit), and 3 different PCs, all with no change. Additionally, there is no visible damage at all to the port.
I even ROM'ed it (after the problem started) with Cyanogen10 and nothing changed. Finally, I tried it with the dock, and while the dock works fine when they are coupled, if I plug the dock into a PC, still nothing.
I am sort of out of ideas. Anyone else have any?
Thanks!
Jonathan

There is another thread with a discussion on this. Perhaps it will help. Read through the posts to see any trouble shooting suggested, but I'm guessing your USB port is dead and will need to send the tablet back RMA to get it fixed - sorry to say.
See the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624175
I had the same issue, and unfortunately soft bricked my prime while trying to see if different ROM's would fix the issue. the soft brick would have been recoverable if my prime would connect to my PC, but it didn't so I ended up paying Asus to repair the unit.
If none of the troubleshooting works, I'd flash back to a stock ROM and then send it in. mine would only boot into CWM so once they saw that, they figured that was the problem and charged me for the repair. I had seen a couple of people say that even though they were unlocked, the prime was fixed for free since they were able to boot up into the rom.

Can I ask how much they charged you to fix it? I'm about to send mine in for RMA, but have a cracked screen from a drop. USB worked for weeks after the screen crack, but I'm concerned they will say it broke due to my neglect. (Basically I don't want to spend too much to fix it with a broken screen). If I can get the USB working again, I'll consider spending some cash to fix the screen - but to pay for both I'd be better to just but a new tablet.
Never mind, I see you already answered me on a different post. $232.

TF700T Device root USB problem

Hello everyone, thank you for your attention.
As you already know I got TF700t (with docking keyboard) and everyone knows that this device is slow if it's not rooted. So the problem is that my usb cable broke and I first bought cheap chinese cable but when I connected it to the pc something happend. It was working fine just to unlock my device. But now when I try to connect it to the PC , the only thing that is happening is tf700t display turns ON. So I went to the shop and bought better cable but it's the same thing. And now I can't root my tablet. I tried with APK roots but they don't work on my tablet. So if you can help me somehow.
Thank you !

Elephone p9000 wont charge

Just received my awaited elephone p9000 today and had been using it for a couple of hours setting up, Doing an update etc. When i came time to charge it. To sum it up it used the supplied usb c cable to attempt to charge it on multiple usb chargers and tried it with two pc's with no success. When connected to the pc it did come up with 'This device has been linked" Then immediately followed by "this device has been unplugged" Or at least something along those lines. Today i went and purchased a micro usb to usb c adapter and managed to get it to charge momentarily then to find it stop then start again. I am now sitting on 1% power and not sure what todo. Any advice? I have warranty on it from gearbest fyi.

When I first charged my P9000 it did not go over 50% until I updated to the newest OTA and rebooted the device after the last update.
But I have not encountered disconnects or anything like that.
You could also screw your device apart and remove the battery for some time, but as you have a valid warranty I would not recommend that.

If you connect your phone to your PC, is it listed in the device manager? If yes, does your PC recognize it as Elephone p9000?
Have you installed the latest drivers for your phone? (http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-1037-1-1.html#.VWgkX_RAU-0)
Maybe changing the connection type in the notifications (when plugged in) helps in any way ?
Have you tried a different lead? I know this sounds obvious but my brother had a similar problem with his P9000 when he first got it, he used my lead (for some reason my lead was different to his as I bought from a different supplier, dunno why mines a kinda thick white lead, my brothers was a kinda thinner blue Elephone lead) and it worked fine. Although I haven't come across anyone else on here that's come across an issue with the supplied lead.

It does multiple things when it connects at different stages
ON and connected to pc- With elephone cable the phone constantly displays the messages 'Charger has been linked' and 'device has been unplugged' within ~1 sec of each other and no connection is noticed on PC.
With the MICRO USB - USB C adapter nothing happens
Powered off and connected to pc- Charging symbol will flash momentarily every ~5seconds. Pc will ding repeatedly as it connects and disconnects
fastboot- Somehow connects and is recognised by PC
Ive managed to get it past 30% power but took ages todo from leaving it powered off and just flashing on and off charging

I only have 2 leads unfortunately. The stock elephone and a micro usb to usb c adapter with a working micro usb attached. Ive ordered some more online and waiting their arrival. Im stuck on what todo
That is indeed very strange.
You could try to flash TWRP 3.0.2.1 via fastboot (http://en.miui.com/thread-58623-1-1.html, just use the TWRP for Elephone P9000 instead), but I would not recommend that as your connection is really unstable. The chance of bricking your device is much higher than the chance that your problem is solved.
If the leads you ordered do not help you should get it replaced.
