update-Market3.1.3.zip for installing in OR - Milestone XT720 Themes and Apps

Last market 3.1.3 for installing in OR. For me it's more comfortable then apk because it's system application
Work without any problems on all versions of CM including CM6.3.0-RC3. Also it must work on any our ROM

Do you have an update to make the marker back to the old one froyo uses? The new one is very slow and I don't like it. Titanium backup doesn't work.

You should be able to use TB to restore the old market. Are you using Free or Paid version b/c free only allows 1 backup. I don't like the new Market either and use TB to restore 2.3.6. I am at work, so I can't upload anything but if no one does it by tonight or tomorrow, I'll get it in here for you.

You can reinstall the update gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed..you may remove the system apps you don't need from the folder system/app..or you can use this update (see attachment), which is gapps without many system apps I personally always delete. Before using it check if some you may need are missing.

Well, it depends on which ROM. CM6 uses the gapps update but I don't think the others do.
Another way to get the ROM's original market is to use Yaffs Explorer to browse your nandroid backups.

Here is the old market. Flashing it will replace your existing market. First remove any market updates. Then delete all market data and then flash this.
Backup first.

It has a modified MarketUpdater.apk which disables updates for the market app. It worked for me on my SGSII.

personally speaking, i prefer much more the stock market included in CM roms than the new version
i do like the filters option in the new version, but it runs so slow, even on my Nexus S
so, it's not only a thing of the phone, is the Market app itself, it has become too broad

Backup Applications + Data

Yesterday i tried the new modaco rom and was amazed by the speed unfortunatly i'd have to reinstall everything else so i restored the premade nandroid backup..
Has anyone experiences with a good backup application on the Hero ? Currently i'm thinking about using the App Manager + Handy Backup (free apps from Android Market) but i'm afraid that some data could be missing..
greetz rivak
I've not tried Handy.
I can confirm that neither MyBackupPro nor Backup for Root Users correctly backup/restore the HTC Sense UI stuff, so you will lose all your home screen customisations.
AppManager will backup apps, but only free ones, not paid/protected ones. I'm not aware of anythign that does, but of course you could just copy the apk files manually.
I'n not aware of an app that correctly backs up app *settings* either, but would love to know of one.
I tried Sprite, but its restore actually failed to complete. I didn't have time to play with it, so got a refund.
I can imagine the difficulty of writing an app to backup "settings" for ROM changes, as different ROM could have different adjustable settings...
I hope that HTC could provide us some app to back up settings within their apps, or allow us to export those settings (e.g. exporting saved custom Sense)

AppManager will backup paid apps - it is only protected ones that it can't do. Since many paid apps are protected, the distinction is minor, but it is worth pointing out.
However, since the Market remembers your paid apps anyway, it is a rather moot point, since paid apps are generally very easy to recover directly from the Market. I use AppManager to backup and restore all the free apps that I use, as it saves me (a) having to remember what I installed and (b) hunting round for them on the Market.

Dave

But does the restore really work flawless with free apps? i made the experience with many wm phones and different backup apps like sprite backup, that you will nearly always have some kind of minor bugs after restoring data (especially if you made a FW update). Thats why i resorted in setting up everything manually again, which is the cleanest way to setup a newly updates device. So is using appmanager for restoring apps really safe?
Well, thus far I've not had a problem with any apps that I restored using AppManager. Essentially all it does is copy the APKs to to the SD card, and reinstalls them when you restore. Therefore, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't work just as well as redownloading from the market, since that is just going to download and install the same APK.

Dave

Well, it's easy, yes, but also rather tedious if you've got dozens of paid apps, as you'd have to re-installed each one individually.
Anyway, the latest Root Explorer can now copy around entire directory hierarchies, so I'll just use that to take a copy of the protected apk files, and restore them after.
there is one major drawback to those backup apps:
after restoring all apps the android market doesn't recognize those installled apps, and therefore there i had no easy overview of app update notes.
but since this is an important feature i had to reinstall everything from the market again, so i can see in the download list if my apps have got any updates...
so while app manager did work, this drawback makes it unusable for me sadly...
Note that aTrackDog gives similar functionality, so that is at least a workaround.
Backup for root users claims to backupt the Market DB, and it did seem to work a bit, in that some, but not all, of my non-paid apps show as installed. Odd.
Another huge problem with AppManager, I'vejust found, is when you use it to re-install 100-odd apps: you still have to answer two prompts for each one (OK & Done).
Since it doesn't even result in the Market DB being correctly updated, you might as well just copy the apk files en masse, using Root Explorer. I would do that in future.

No, not quite. the MoDaCo custom ROM is based on HTC's 2.0, but is already rooted, so you can run root explorer, and other apps needing root, directly. It also has lots of other tweaks. You *do* need root to run Root Explorer.
Unfortunately, if you've installed the HTC RUU, you've also likely been installed a new bootloader which has removed your ability to boot custom recovery images, and so removed your ability to gain root in the future. The MoDaCo ROM does not include the new bootloader (which is not otherwise required).
But all is not lost: apparently you can use a tool called "flashrec" to restore the old bootloader... lots more detail at the MoDaCo site.
Does Backup for Root work then other than missing a few apps?
Seemed ok for me, other than:
- not backing up protected apps, even thought it could
- not backing up the HTC Sense UI desktop, folders, etc.

Sounds promising...were you using the latest version? Noticed the dev saying was aware of bugs on latest version, and suggesting may be better to use the old version.
Thanks
Phil
yup, latest version. I think those comments are a rejoinder to some others commenting that it had wiped all their data. I've had no problems, and those comments looked a little unlikely to me.
But a nandroid backup is always a good safety measure, before trying anything
backing up SMS and Email
How can you backup all SMS and email so that you re-install them with all threads correct if you change the ROM?
P!
SMS yes; there are several backup tools around; I used SMS Backup for Root.
email: my email is Gmail-based, so no need to backup, as it's not stored on the phone.

[Q] Removing pirated Titanium Backup Pro from Light 001 ROM

Does anyone know how to remove the pirated Titanium Backup that was included in the LIGHT 001 ROM? I can't install a market one over the top, even if I delete the .apk; normally I'd use TB to remove a system app...
So, any ideas would be much appreciated.

Jerpelea was unaware that it was a pirated version when he compiled 001, he removed it from build 002. I would suggest switching to that ROM instead.
Yes, I'm aware of the newer ROM being cleaned up. It's too much bother reinstalling everything for the sake of one app.
No matter, after I deleted market's cache I could uninstall the included TB and reinstall it from the market.
Cheers anyway.

I'm rooted how do I get rid of apps

OK...I am new to Android. I have my phone rooted but am wondering how can I uninstall some of the junk that came on the Thunderbird. Stuff like Blockbuster and the Golf app. Also how can I change my boot screen? Any tips would be helpful.
Titanium backup,(suggest pro where u can freeze them) is the easiest way.

I downloaded Titanium backup and it says i am not rooted. I have ROM manager and superuser in my all apps screen.
I chose to install one of the custom roms that just removed the Verizon apps... Provided link below. Though did have to redo some of the root process after flashing the custom rom, but not a huge hassle. Plus got rid of the bloat thanks to adrynalyne

still learning this phone. Not sure if I am ready for that yet I do not even know how to flash to a new rom yet. I used the fast root method that just came out yesterday to gain root to the phone. I know....I am not hard core yet.

free version is ok but pro is better... you can freeze apps first, if it messes something up defrost it and dont uninstall!
Thanks for the help guys. Do you think getting rid of the apps like Blockbuster, Golf, Twitter etc would do any harm?
I deleted mine with TiB, no problems...
now i just have to figure out how to delete them

[SOLVED] WTF? Is up with the Market? Look at this...

Tried to go to my apps in the Market and keep getting this crap!!!
I get that after a fresh wipe and ROM install. I think it's a matter of Market talking to the phone and reading what apps you do and do not have currently installed.

OK well first relax. Issues like this are common when flashing custom roms. Your best bet is to do a full wipe and then reflash the rom. Also don't restore any system data at all as this can cause issues. Only user apps and data
Reboot! Always helps!
Same here factory reset worked

Hi, I know this problem. When you flash a new rom and afterwards apps were installed with a backup tool (e. g. titanium bu) and not with google market directly this error can occur.
When there is one app which was removed from market the error in your screenshot is shown. In my case it was the old version of "cut the rope". To solve this problem it is necessary to remove this link to the market or deinstallation of this app.
As long as there is a mismatch in the app-market-assignment it is also possible that you get the message that apps were not bought.
It is possible to un-link apps using the "rom toolbox pro". As far as I know it is not possible with the free edition.
I would make a nan backup and try to uninstall all apps directly in the market (on your PC not on your cell phone). Afterwards it should be possible to use the market on your cellphone. When something fails you can restore your backup.
Update: when you know which app is the source for your error --> use ur backup again and uninstall just the known erroneous app.
Its a lot of work

If the rom includes the FREE version, which it usually does, then you need to uninstall it and install again from the Market.
Then it will recognize the key. The Donate version sees the key, the FREE version does not.
I know it's weird, but that's how it is.
I know some Rom Devs won't include the Donate version, so as to avoid users or "XDA Mods" from thinking that the Paid version was cooked in.
As some don't do their homework and jump to conclusions when the app auto identifies their key and they don't know it does so.
Just sayin'....hope that helps.
In any case, an uninstall and reinstall from Market should do the trick.

Oh I see. Not sure what it does when it backs itself up to be honest.
The key is generally stored on your SD card as far as I know.
But maybe that's changed as well, not really sure.
I find relying on using TiBu for backing up restoring much of anything generally causes me more trouble then it's worth.
But that's just my experience and preference.
So anyhow, as far as I know, the update zip won't have the key in it.
I think it's either the old style where it finds it on sd card, or waits until you sign in to Google to identify the device ID.
Ummmm. The key installs as a seperate app. Its on the market. Just go get it. Freaking Amazing.

so are we supposed to be able to flash the pro version or not? cause I can't and if not I don't see the point. I'll have to try that method of including all apps in the zip. never saw that...
