[Tutorial] [UNLOCK/ROOT] EVO 3D GSM Hboot 1.49.0011> + S-On [HTC Unlock method] - HTC EVO 3D

Is simply straight forward. I have to create new thread bcoz i can see many frens asking about this in various thread.
Unlock (HTC Method may void warranty, i dont care ) + CWM = Can flash any custom rom
[1] register @ htcdev [dot] com
[2] just follow on-screen instruction until successfully boot with unlocked bootloader
now the important part : (u can use4EXT Recovery Touch (the best. recommended) or Revolutionary custom CWM recovery image)
[3a] 4EXT Recovery Touch (THE BEST) See HERE for more info.
[3b] Revolutionary CWM
(i) download Revolutionary shutteru CWM recovery from here
(ii) reboot device in bootloader mode > fastboot > plug in usb cable until u see FASTBOOT USB on device screen
(iii) now in adb type : fastboot flash recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-shooteru.img
(iv) Done.
[4] To root stock rom,
(i) download Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip and copy to sdcard
(ii) reboot to recovery mode
(iii) select install zip frm sdcard > choose zip frm sdcard > select zip file as in (i) step above > proceed to flash.
Now device is Bootloader Unlocked + CWM recovery + S-ON & ready to flash custom rom.

Relock the bootloader,first,
then ,you can flash rom sihp!!!!

OK, I got mine working. Weird thing was the first time I tried to install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip, I got an error (Status 0, I believe.. no idea what that means). Re-locked my phone, and unlocked it again and the second time around, it installs just fine.
Now, I can finally use Market Enabler!

I managed to unlock htc do not understand how to run the adb. Someone could explain it in detail. Sdk install all packages, when I run the adb is closed. help

I also have a question, what's the difference between S-OFF and S-ON? I unlocked my phone the revolutionary way so I guess I'm S-OFF but I don't get what's the difference, in both case you can flash anything you want?

How Do I Know If My Device Is S-ON Or S-OFF?
That is easy to verify. Simply boot into HBOOT on your device (Volume + Dwn) with fastboot off, and the text on top will show the flag status as either S-OFF or S-ON. A full root generally means S-OFF.
S-OFF – What And Why?
In their devices, HTC have installed a sort of security check whose level is determined by S-OFF/S-ON. Essentially, this security level is a flag stored on the device’s radio that checks signature images for any firmware before it is allowed to be written to system memory. This hinders using any custom ROMs, splash images, recovery etc., and also restricts access to the NAND flash memory. However, when security level is set to S-OFF, the signature check is bypassed, allowing a user to upload custom firmware images, unsigned boot, recovery, splash and HBOOT images, as well as official firmware that has been modified, this enabling maximum customization of your HTC Android device.
Furthermore, S-OFF also reduces restrictions on accessing the NAND flash memory on the device, allowing all partitions (including /system) to be mounted in write mode while the operating system is booted.

Help
To step 4 so good, but I can not get to run the adb, someone could guide me, I am eager to put another rom. Thank you.

Check you have usb debugging enabled.
Google the android sdk and download.
Extract it to somewhere.
Connect the phone and run Adb commands from the command prompt in windows after changing directory to the tools folder in the folder you just extracted.

Sorry for my stupidity. It may be more graphic.
I'm with the sdk package you extracted to a folder on my desktop when I run adb opens and closes just a black window, then do not like running the flash file recovery fasboot cwm-4.0.1.4-shooteru.img. I need someone to do it step by step slower. From cmd not to put.

it works on HBoot 1.49.0009.
also when you install rom manager u can change the recovery to lastest ver.
it's still S-On but its rooted

There is a difference between unlocking the bootloader and gaining root access. If you're device is already s-off, as stated above, there is no need to run revolutionary again to unlock the device as the device has already been unlocked.
The next step after unlocking the device is seting up root access in the respectively loaded ROM, generally the stock ROM.
A common approach: you can either flash a custom recovery, which can then load the superuser .zip file and setup root access in the currently loaded stock ROM, or you can flash a custom ROM through the custom recovery which contains root access already setup.
Hope that helps clarify some of the possible confusion!
This does help. How do I flash a Custom Recovery? When I go into Fastboot and choose Recovery, the phone just locks up and I can't go any further...can you please send instructions?

Directions are posted all over the forum in many different guides and threads.
There are multiple ways of accomplishing the same end goal. If you're interested in finding the easiest method for you, might need to do some research.
The method I would personally use would be the command: fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img .
The advantage to this route is the fastboot flash command will permanently load the custom recovery in the recovery partition so when you follow the steps you outlined, boot into the bootloader and select recovery, the recovery will load.
Hope that helps!
I will try this and see if I can get it to work. It appears I'm doing something wrong on my computers 'cmd' command prompt...I keep geeting an error.
I was able to finally get into cmd command prompt using Revolutionary.exe and it tells me that my Hboot 1.5 is not supported. Is there another way to flash custome recovery image?

[Q] I need root and CWM

OK, I'm a newbie with EVO 3D GSM and all my half a year experience with Atrix 4G seems useless.
I've just bought an EVO 3D GSM phone for my gentlefem. It utlizes 2.3.4 GB stock ROM.
What I need is to root the phone, unlock BL and install CWM so I can do full ROM backups. Or at least this is the standard procedure for my Moto Atrix...
It seems so different with HTC... I'm frustrated.
Hboot version? How can I find out is it 1.5 or before? Downgrade risking hard brick? No way.
I need root and CWM with ROM manager. Not intending to flash custom ROMs (not now).
Anyone can point me to the right place for dummies?
First you need to check your bootloader version.
Go to settings, power, and unchek fastboot.
After that power off your phone, take battery out, place it back in, hold volume down and power button. That will boot your phone in boot loader. Writte down whats on screen and post back here.
Then will see what should you do next...

Yeah, I've read those instructions event before I bought the phone.
I have unlocked HBoot with HTCDev method. Phone applied factory reset as expected and boots normally.
Before continuing I'd like to know if the above rooting method works for sure with 1.49.0012 HBoot?

Yeah, it worked for 0012 also.
I could install Revo CWM and Superuser. There was an error in CWM for not correctly applying SU, but it works anyway. The phone is unlocked, rooted, CWMed.
As I understand now I can install custom ROMs. But to install custom kernels I need S-OFF.
Is it possible to S-OFF a stock 2.3.4 ROM?

i am goin through a really big problem! i was trying to permanently root my phone! but during the revolutionary step it says hboot 1.40.0000 or 1.30.0000 it says 1.40.0000 and it also says it is not supported yet! please help me!
Hi,
you dont need S-OFF for evrything. If you cannot S-OFF,
still you can flash roms, and do most of the things without a problem,
Only thing is you cannot just install custom roms using the recovery menu.
You need to download and installed Android Framework tools and fastboot in your PC to fire ADB Dos commands to your phone via USB to flash the updates.
Let me know.

You can flash ROMs through recovery on S-on too and it will work fine as long as the new ROM contains the same kernel as your current kernel. And if it contains another kernel use flash Image GUI app or fastboot command to flash tha kernel.
Provided your bootoader is unlocked via www.htcdev.com

Most of the time, ROMs does not have the same kernal,
So most of the users who are s-on and new to flashing get stuck on boot loops. Other thing is flash image gui app is a paid application
So best way is to use fastboot commands to flash the kernal after installing the ROM zip file
Cheers..
You could update to hboot 1.50, use the HTCDev unlock and use the Wiretrick to get s-off

[FIX] & [DOWNGRADE HBOOT] - Stupid Bootloop with HBOOT 1.58 EVO 3D - UPDATED 1-7-13
My friend's phone had the annoying bootloop problem. I'm posting this because after a lot of searching, I found nothing to fix the bootloop, just people asking about it. Here's a simply fix.
BOOTLOOP FIX:
If you already tried unlocking/ and you're still S-On, then set everything back to stock:
Flash the attached stock recovery,
fastboot oem lock to be locked again.
Use the latest RUU to update the phone.
At this point the stock, locked phone should function normally.
I have busted this phone a ton of times trying to get different recoveries and roms to work, and this method has always fixed the bootloop.
At this point you can try whatever tutorial you like to downgrade or customize the phone...and if it breaks, hopefully this method will still work for you. If it doesn't work the first time, try running the RUU a second time. Or third.
CUSTOM RECOVERY:
If you want to unlock and install custom stuff:
Use the HTC Dev unlock method.
Fastboot install CWM Recovery v5.8.0.1 from their website -
The ONLY recovery that I've found to be compatible with HBOOT 1.58 is CWM v5.8.0.1. Everything else leaves the phone in an infinite bootloop. Maybe others have had different experiences.
To fastboot install the CWM recovery, rename the file to recovery.img (for simplicity) and type in a command prompt (same directory as fastboot and recovery.img):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then, to enter into recovery, either pull the battery and enter recovery through the bootloader menu, or type in:
fastboot boot recovery.img
This should get you into the working CWM recovery. If it doesn't, it's because HTC hates people that buy their phones.
If you feel like giving up and running stock, all you need to do is reflash the stock recovery, and relock the phone using fastboot oem lock - and now it should run the stock rom...and if it doesn't, then rerun the RUU. Tedious.
HBOOT Downgrade & S-Off:
If you have: Stock 2.89 RUU / Locked / S-On
Unlocked with HTC Dev method
Flash CWM 5.8.0.1 from the CWM website:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img - then
fastboot boot recovery.img (to enter recovery)
Flash the SetMainVersionLOW.zip file attached (thanks ramjet73)
Relock the phone with: fastboot oem lock
Use the Unknownforce/closeone hboot downgrade with live CD using the 2.89 RUU's rom.zip (from windows temp folder) renamed to PG86IMG.zip - go to the Unknownforce/closeone thread for this part: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563342
Then flash the standard 1.13 RUU on your windows system (may also work with the PG86IMG.zip method, have not tested)
Then use revolutionary 0.4pre4 to S-Off
Finally, you need to flash a custom recovery which you can do from revolutionary, or from fastboot as listed above. Once the recovery is installed, you should be able to install a compatible custom rom and kernel.
You bootloader screen should now say REVOLUTIONARY on top instead of UNLOCKED or RELOCKED etc... and show HBOOT 1.40.1100.
Thanks to Unkownforce, closeone, and ramjet73 for making this possible.
PS. Screw up your phone at your own risk.
In case anybody was wondering, the RUU I've been using is the latest one at the time of this post: RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2_Radio_1.09.00.0706__NV_NV_SPCS_1.43_release_271101_signed.exe
If by "reset s-on" you mean to switch s-off to s-on using the "write secureflag 3" command, then there is no need to do that., you can directly run RUU.exe on S-OFF and any recovery (hboot needs to be one of the stock versions I guess, I dont know for sure).
And I dont know if theres any relation with hboot version and recovery but TWRP and 4ext recovery works for every hboot. And if you are s-on, you dont always have to flash boot.img seperately using fastboot if you turn smartflash on.

As others have mentioned, this is completely unnecessary. Once you're s-off htc's unlock is a non-issue and you can run any RUU you wish to at any time.
I know of no reason whatsoever where someone would need to set S-ON once it's off.

Totally agree. The only reason to set S-ON once S-OFF is achieved is to return to 100% stock for warranty service or to sell the phone.
Nice to see you in these parts again and Happy New Year!

The CWM recovery version (6.0.1.4) you attached to the OP gives an error about accessing mmcblk0p34 when used with the engineering (ENG) bootloader, which a lot of Evo 3D users have installed to run GB or AOSP based ROM's. The current version of TWRP2 (2.3.3.0) has a similar error about the misc partition and I don't know if those errors will affect anything else or not. Apparently those errors are caused by variations in the emmc partition layouts with different bootloaders.
I prefer to use 4EXT which doesn't show any errors once cache+dalvik are formatted.
ramjet73
I updated the OP. I read somewhere else that it was necessary, this phone was never S-Off, so I wasn't sure.
Thanks
Everytime i run the ruu for my 3d it will finish as it has completed and boot. But whenever i remove my battery to switch it with a secondary, i used to do this before bed every night, i get a bootloop and cant boot untill i boot into bootloader and select the recovery option which wipes the phone and boots untill then next time i remove the battery. Why wont the RUU fix this? ive ran it multiple times. And also whenever im in the stock recovery and i select factory reset or any of the options i get "invalid option" "sucess rebooting by reason oem-00" what does this mean!?! can this be my sd? cause i cant mount cache recovery command or mount anything in recovery for that matter. if i need an sd ill buy one. just dont wanna find out its not my sd. and ive run the RUU about 7 times in total and nothing helps. thanks

Yeah, I put WIP because it still never worked right, it was just the only one that ever actually loaded. I still hate this phone, I wish HTC was as nice as Samsung. It's so easy to work with Samsung, I always get mad trying to work around HTC's crippling B.S. Still better than Motorola though.

put your phone into the bootloader by holding the volume down key while turning it on.
Assuming you have the sdk tools, or some basic set like QADERSO.zip:
select fastboot from the bootloader menu, then connect it to your computer with a usb cable (should change to fastboot usb)
in a command prompt (or terminal window, depending on your OS)
Go into the folder containing both fastboot and the recovery.
Type in: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (rename the stock recovery included in the OP to just recovery.img)
Once that is complete, you will have the stock recovery.

Re: [FIX] & [DOWNGRADE HBOOT] - Stupid Bootloop with HBOOT 1.58 EVO 3D - UPDATED 1-7-
Dang it! Why does it seem like developers have quit developing fully functioning roms for this phone? I live in a good 4g area so those roms without it are out of the question for me. And the others are having major issues with cameras, video playing, text messaging that keep it from being a daily....
And after using jellybean these ICS roms feel very incomplete even though they're more functional. I know you developers are busy people but please, can ICS get freshened up. Or just ignore me if y'all think the camera/text thing will be resolved very soon.

EXTRA GUIDE FOR S-ON USERS;FLASH 4EXT RECOVERY:
I WILL RECOMMEND TO FLASH 4EXT RECOVERY AFTER ROOTING AMAZE 4G WITH CWM RECOVERY BECAUSE IT
IS THE BEST RECOVERY AND WELL FEATURED!
TO FLASH 4EXT RECOVERY GO TO: AND FROM THERE DOWNLOAD 4EXT RECOVERY!
THEN YOU WILL GET 4EXT RECOVERY.ZIP SO SEND IT TO YOUR SD CARD THEN BOOT YOUR PHONE INTO BOOTLOADER USE THE
REBOOT INTO BOOTLOADER FILE FROM MY FILEKIT>DATA AFTER THAT NAVIGATE TO RECOVERY AND SELECT
4EXT RECOVERY.ZIP AFTER IT FLASHES SUCESSFULLY REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM OR REBOOT RECOVERY SO THEN
NEW RECOVERY WILL BE SEEN..
ALL GUIDES AND FILES ARE AVAILABILE IN THE ZIP..
EXCEPT 4EXT!
ALTHOUGH I HAD INCLUDED 4EXT RECOVERY IN THE FOLDER BUT IT IS NOT WORKING!
YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE 4EXT RECOVERY UPDATER APP AND YOU CAN FLASH LATEST RECOVERY FROM THAT APP AFTER ROOTING!
4EXT Recovery App
so first download the zip from here
unzip it and use the guides above to proceed! use 7zip or similar

phone stuck at HTC logo
hey guys,
great guide, plain and simple
I have gotten to the point of rooting the phone, however when I install roms from sd card and reboot, the phone gets stuck at the htc logo with the white background. Am I missing something...After i install the super su and reboot, can I just install a rom, or do i need to update the kernel or install an update?
thanks in advance

Yes the problem is that you need to flash boot.img from bootloader or for easily flashing roms from recovery ,use 4ext recovery...
Just flash this recovery from an app at play store or xda named 4ext recovery control this will work only if phone is booting or if the phone is not booting so search 4ext recovery.img or .zip on xda and flash it in your current recovery and reboot your recovery...you would now be able to get in new recovery now before flashing roms you need to enable 4ext smart flash, which is available inside tools options in 4ext recovery once you had enabled smart flash start flashing roms and they would boot...but NOTE: when ever you are flashing roms always check that is 4ext smart flash enabled or not ,you need to enable it in order to boot new roms and always make an Nandroid backup...
Happy flashing and don't forget to hit thanks

And please tell me that you're currently on CWM recovery or anyother...
Well CWM recovery is included in the package so hoping you're on custom recovery..
The only solution for your problem is that your phone should be ICS 4.0.3 updated and you should have 4ext recovery with smart flash enabled...
Or other solution is perform S-OFF..which is very hard, because of the wire trick!

whenever I flashed rom it just stuck at HTC boot logo with white background ...!
but one rom finally works that is viper amaze but in this rom there are some bugs !
for example. Bluetooth is not working, the sound is not working !
These are some bugs which make this rom worst ...
I m soo confused what to do !
And performing s-off is very risky due to wire trick !
Because may be the device get damage ..!

I assume that you are on ginger bread with old bootloader,so try CM7 or older roms that might work on your device, for flashing ICS and JB newer roms you will need to be on latest bootloader which you can get after updating your phone to ICS(official)..
if you are having unbranded HTC Amaze Ruby then you need to S-OFF or if you are having Branded i.e T-Mobile or any other just flash the RUU from boot loader....:victory:

ok, so im at a lost, i have used 4ext recovery and used a cyanogen mod and still no luck. I followed your instructions but it still sticks at the htc logo. what is this S-off you are talking about and exactly how risky is it?

Did you enabled smart flash inside tools options in 4ext recovery.?
Just Google s-off,you might find details about it.
And another solution is to try hasoons2000 toolkit for htc amaze and learn how to flash boot.img on bootloader..

did you tried enabling smart flash in recovery?
for s-off visit this.
and for booting a new rom you need to flash boot.img from bootloader.
use this once you enter boot loader and your phone should be connected to pc.see this for more information.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
I got through somewhat

Ok, so i extracted the img file and loaded it using the fastboot command, it booted in to Android OS (cm-10-20131006-NIGHTLY-ruby.zip) but it keeps cutting off, I had installed the same rom previously, When loading the boot.img, do i need to extract all the other contents to a folder so it can pull all the files?

ok, so I did all the above, I also installed an update:
You MUST flash the ICS firmware update when coming from a GINGERBREAD ROM before flashing Viper Amaze
Place the PH85IMG.zip in the root of your
EXTERNAL SDCARD and boot into bootloader
This will update your radio
to 1.15.550L.08D _30.80.550L. 16D
and HBOOT to 1.93.2222
I did the above, installed the Viper Amaze 1.7.2.3 official, and it worked!!!!
thanks again for your help and patient, thank you
