Update coming today? - HTC Jetstream

I check for updates every few days and it normally just says "Current software is up to date". Today it also says... "You may check again in: 4 hrs 7 mins".
Anyone else notice this? I guess I'll report back in 4 hrs 8 mins ;-)

I just checked for updates and nothing like that. I really don't like how this tablet is locked down. I wish I had the time to figure out adb and unlocking.

As the Jetstream gains in popularity we'll see more stuff for it. Accessories, apps, mods, etc. It'll get figured out eventually... But I wouldn't mind chipping with you guys (several of you lol) to buy a Jetstream for one of the kicka$$ dev's around here so that we could get this rolling a bit faster!

T-Mo Rom Update

Just had the ROM update pushed to my device. Looks like the HTC security bug fix.
Security and performance update. Seems maybe a fit more responsive...could just be my imagination.
What the version number in the about phone software section?

I said it once and ill say it again, DO NOT TAKE UPDATES if you want S-off when it's available. Those same "security fixes" are probably closing any exploits for our developers to crack.
1.36.531.6
HBOOT is 1.90.0004, still from Sept 15, 2011.

WRONG!
After a factory reset you'll still have the updated software.
All a factory reset does is deletes the user files in the /data partition.

Bit more battery?? It needs tons more...I am waiting to update.
Does the update allow you to root anyway with the One click method??
I don't want to screw that up... S-OFF and ON does not change to me.

There is no s=off method yet, but this will remove perm root is you have done it. Supposedly, you just need to do the perm root again.
I have blocked the update so far as I do not see an immediate need for it. I had heard that the patch is for an HTC wide venerability fix.

Should have fixed the fairly major security vulnerability in HTCLoggers.apk which let any app with Internet permission access your contacts, call logs, location tracking, etc.
This update started rolling out about a week and a half ago.. At least that's when I got it.. It was around 10Mb..

I've noticed improvement of my battery life after updating, also the phone doesn't heat up as much as before...
Not really sure what this update did in regards to battery life, but my screen transitions does seem slightly smoother when going from a full page widget to another (example: weather to calendar).
Before installing it did state the package was for "optimisation"...whatever that means

In Regards to the Update Coming Soon

Seeing that there is a boatload of work to install this leak, I decided that its probably time to do homework instead of trying to play with my phone at 2AM.
However, I have noticed a lot of people saying that the release cannot be too far behind since the leak came out.
I'm a bit skeptical on this idea, because didn't a leak come out for the HTC Sensation ages ago? Now, I did not research much, but as far as I know (again, I may be wrong), the Sensation didn't have an official update either.
Its definitely not too far-fetched to think that the update might be delayed even further. HTC did promise that the updates would be early 2012 and as we all know, "early 2012" was a long time ago. Some said the updates would be during MWC, some said otherwise. What do you guys think?
As for development, this is definitely a very good sign as the interest and traffic for the HTC Amaze the past two days were quite phenomenal. The CM9 builds and Evervolv builds never really got anywhere for months. Do you guys think its worth downloading the leak now? Or would waiting be a better option? From what I heard, you have to re-root your device simply downloading the update.

There had been so many issues for me, such as getting S-Off to try and make things easier but there were errors for backing up. Instructions said if I wanted to install with S-On, I'd have to lock and unlock my phone again. How did it work out for you? I haven't even seen screenshots of this update. Is it sense 3.5?

The only htc sensation(the original one, not the xl) that doesn't have ics is the sensation 4G (T-mo version)
I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if Tmo is sitting on the update to push sales for the One-S. Not that I am a marketing expert or anything, but so far the release seems very stable and I can't figure out why they are holding off on it
I have a stock Amaze and installed it easily. All I did was rename the file and drop it on the drive.

Yes and no is my uneducated opinion. I feel like they're update the firmware yet because the radio seems finicky. With s-off, I think that they'll just be able to update the firmware through hboot, but with s-on I think we'll need to go stock, download the update, then do the reroot process....I could be off, but in the end we'll still be ok for any updates either way.
I think that pushing One S sales definitely sounds likely.
Meanwhile, I just think T-Mobile is bad with updates and this sucks for the development community because it means less resources to help people. There are so many devices out there getting updates anyways. Its not like updating the Amaze is going to hurt their revenue either. Its just frustrating. I definitely advise against waiting for an update from T-Mobile. Definitely update now. There are already great ROMs that were made.

why do we need to unlock bootloader to root?

sorry im just a little confused. ive had multiple android devices all which have been rooted and not all of them have had the bootloader unlocked. now this is my first htc product so im not really familiar with s-off. but i bought this phone thinking there were going to be lots of devs and everything working on it and this has killed my plans . i know patience is a virtue . i was just curious. i mean droid razrs have plenty of roms available and they are still on a locked bootloader
It all has to do with the exploit used to root the device. HTC has to have an unlocked bootloader so that you can use the bootloader to write the root files to the system folder.

same way, let it off for awhile then try if it doesn't pull battery and then try, it works
And turn off fast boot in Settings/Power.
i ended up rebooting, and just holding the power + volume down. that worked for me
to answer the og poster
if you have an unlocked b/l you can flash a custom recovery img which allows you to then flash a root package in that recovery
there is no current working exploit manually root the stock rom otherwise
Hmm. I just got the blank email from HTC. I hadn't yet tried unlocking today, and received it after 9pm. I tried, but it was to no avail. I was hoping HTC was secretly sending out emails for those who had repeatedly tried, trying to help them out.

[Q] Any word on ME7 unlocked boot loader?

Just got my S 4 a few days ago. BestBuy guy fiddling with it updated it to the ME7 build of which I had no idea couldn't get boot loader unlocked for yet. If I had known that at the time, I wouldn't have been letting him mess with it so long. Anyway, I am on ME7 and rooted..thank goodness that's available at least. Any word on the unlocked boot loader? Oh duh I totally forgot about that. It's definitely worth it for me. I love my custom ROMs.

It will ask you to update right when you turn it on most likely. Some users said it automatically updated overnight. So make sure you root and rom it immediately once you get it to stop that.

Or he can freeze the sdm.apk to prevent it from doing it.

I was asked to apply the OTA and I ignored the the messaged all day at work. When I got home, I plugged my phone into my computer only to charge it and it automatically applied the update. Also, I had Kies set up to NOT open or update when plugging in my phone.

Yup, i'd suggest just saying the update was giving you a problem and you factory reset a few times and you still have spotty reception or something, or just switch colors if it doesnt matter to you.

Just got home from BestBuy with my new S4, black this time. Rooted on mdk and changed name of SDM.apk, about to try out some ROMs

Before. We both just bought the phones recently. Both made the mistake of updating the first ones xD

Make sure you freeze (or change the name of) fwupdate.apk as well as the SDM.apk to ensure you don't wake up one morning to find me7 installed.

Did the same from verizon.. started to give a story about how something wasnt working right and the guys was like i dont care heres a new one.. lol i was worried there would be a problem. As for freezing there two files you want to freeze I found the info here on xda. As for the white phone theres a guy I work with that has a dark silver case and it makes it look awsome. If i see him tonight Ill link the case name.. Its almost grey and covers all the white except the smallest inner edge around the screen and it makes the screen pop.

Yes within 14 day period. They didn't even inspect my phone or ask me anything. I just said new firmware had issues and also I'd like a black one instead. If you are going to BestBuy be sure to get their phone insurance through Geeksquad, that stuff is great.
