I just bought this EVO 3D and sometimes the touch screen becomes unresponsive and I must turn the screen off and back on to get it to work again. After I do that the screen works fine until it happens again at random times. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am on a fresh install using the latest RUU 2.08.651.2, all stock and not rooted. I have no other problems with the touch screen other then having to cycle the screen on and off once in a while. I am hoping this is a stock rom issue and not a hardware problem.
That happen to me but is not the screen is the htc sense...the issue went away with the wtsb rom....

Contacted HTC email support, and followed the guide to hard reset the phone, but problem starts happening within 24 hours without any other apps installed.

I'm thinking my EVO 3D might have an issue like the EVO 4G. I went ahead and unlocked my phone then flashed CM7 alpha. With CM7 it also stopped responding at random times. I also noticed if I hold the phone with my hand wrapped firmly around it the issue will not happen. Last night I used the phone for over an hour straight without having to cycle the screen on and off. Today it happen 6 out 10 times I used my today at work without holding it firmly.
Or maybe I just have a bad digitizer?
I've had this too after flashing a new rom. I'd have to turn the screen off and back on again to fix. I'm not sure if there is a permanent fix at all. Been trying to find one.
What is driving me crazy is I can't figure out if I should just go ahead a replace the digitizer or is it software/firmware related. It seems to be app specific and its always the same spots on specific apps that don't work. Sometimes the phone will work normally depending on how I hold it. Also games do not seem to be affected and pulling down the status bar usually always causes the screen to not respond to touch. How can the screen recognize my touch in 1 app but not recognize the same spot in another app? If anyone has dealt with this before could you please advise me on what to do, thank you.

I took it in to sprint and said listen this isnt just a software thing my touch screen doesnt work. so i left it there for 3 hours to come back and them say... oh it was a software thing we did a hard reset and its fine. and then an hour later it started happening i dont know what to do sprint wont fix it and i have all the insurance and protection plans. I feel like I was railroaded on this pos phone!

Def. Software related, a ported swype keyboard on miui wouldn't work for me, would show up just couldn't use half the bottons, have you calibrated the touch screen any issues with that?

Nevermind, link is down.
I took it into sprint because of the same problem about a quarter of the bottom screen would not respond I didn't have insurance, I did have to unroot it before I took it in, but they swapped it out with no hassle.
They said I was the 3rd person with the same issue? Could be a HTC problem? But my new EVO 3D is running infected eternity ROM no problem

Ok so I'm at week 3 with this thing and yesterday I noticed that my screen had a dead spot on it. What I mean by that is that there was an unresponsive section on the screen. I had experienced this before on my E4G. End result was sprint replaced the phone. By last night the spot responded again but a new location was affected by this problem.
Also the last few days I've had issues with the phone just "running away". I will get backed out of an app automaticlly then multiple selections are made as the phone flies through different screens on its own. While this is happening I do feel a haptic response to this phantom finger making all these selections. When I touch the screen myself there is no response to my touch. Screen shutdown stops the action and allows me to restart the phone after I get the screen back on.
Need to know if anyone else is or has experienced this. I've only got a few days left on my 30 for return without having to pay for another phone.
Also, I have not rooted this device or used any mods.

I haven't had the issue where the phone is whipping through different screens on its own, but I have had a dead spot in one particular area a few times. It doesnt always happen, and I can't really force it to repeat. It is totally random when it happens, but it is that same spit every time it does happen. A factory reset seemed to help, but it still happens once in a while. When it happens, I change to a different screen, then go right.back to the screen with the 'dead spot' and it is no longer dead/unresponsive. Very odd.
I would try a factory reset, then of the problem persists I'd probably take it to Sprint. I have a couple days left and am pondering exchanging mine for a new one as well.

Did you have anything plugged into the headset jack? Only time I've experienced a runaway phone going crazy was when I had mine plugged into an amp via the headphone jack. All sorts of crazy control signals go through there.

my friend had this happen to her evo shift a couple times. It occured after she upgraded to gingerbread. I beleive she hard reset it and it went away

yesterday my phone touch screen was working fine. Today when i woke up my screen was acting up.
what i have noticed my touch screen works but certain part of the screen will not response. When i am typing my touch screen will not reconice me touching the letters T,G,V and this is on portrate mode. i can hit the space bar and it reconizes it. whats funny is that when i put my phone on land scape mode the same letters will not work.
what i have tried.........
remove my screen protector.......
0:restarted my phone
1:format the sd card
2:cleared the cache partition
3:did hard reset.
flash another rom.....miui, ICS, Stock.......
my phone was in room temperaturethe whole time no extreme cold nor moisture.
i know many will say to do a search on the forum to solve my problemes but its kinda weird that the same letters will not work on land scape nor portrate mode.... i wonder if its software.
If the same letters do not work in portrait and landscape its probably software. Try flashing a different ROM.

Download multitouch visible apk from the market and see if your getting dead spots on your digitizer.

It definitely is the digitizer. Mine slowly died on me and got to a point where I wouldn't even touch it and it would register movement on the screen.

Same w mine, started around Christmas.... They blamed software and updated me to 2.08 / hboot 1.5 and then said "well, I guess it needs to be replaced" and I'm still stuck w 1.5..... But w flash image GUI I dont have any issues....

such a shame for such a promising phone with powerful adreno 220 gpu chip, but plauged by low fps and touch screen problems in games.. i'm nearly positive it's just poor GSM software from HTC causing the problems.

If you have Asurion insurance through sprint I think it was $100.00 or some **** like that to have mine replaced. Yeah, I know whats the point of insurance.
Ebay like $35.00. If you do it yourself what no one else will tell you or show you on the Youtube videos is the fact that when you open up your phone you MUST have a ground strap connected to you to discharge static electricity. You run a high chance of jacking up your LCD/TFT in winter months without one. I learned the hard way.
A word of warning: Do not sit in a fluffy recliner while doing this. Do not get up and walk around your carpeted house and pick the phone up once open.

There is a vertical area on the touch screen that is totally unresponsive. Because of this I am unable to hit c, v, f, g or t on my soft keyboard, and using the input text icon thingy have seen that it goes higher up.
Some background now.
Back in January/February, broke the digitizer on my phone. I ordered a new one from repairsuniverse. Installed, all perfectly fine. I would sometimes get "bubbles" and dust between the screens (I messed up the heat tape some.) I would use the lil plastic prybar and fix the issue without opening the whole phone. No issues before.
Yesterday, I decided to finally root, s-off, and try some mods. Before I got to it, I fixed another one of those bubble things on my screen. Went through it all, and went fairly smoothly, and installed cleanrom de. Touch screen would sometimes wig out and become completely unresponsive last night, but hitting the power button would bring it back. Went on and started downloading allot of my apps from the market, and went to bed.
Woke up this morning, touch screen was completely unresponsive. Couldn't get past the lockscreen, even after pulling the battery. I though I must of messed something up earlier when I popped off the screen yesterday (because the signs before compete unresponsiveness.) Tore the phone apart, physically inspected the cable and screen, found no visible defects, and firmly reseated the cable back into the...thingy.
Still no go. Yesterday I had only flashed the kernel for 3.13 on scotts thread, thought that might of been the issue, and flashed the whole 3.14 ruu from nils business sense rom page (because it has a fixed mainver) onto my phone. Success. The screen was working again. Go unlock>recovery>install cleanrom de again. Trying to sign into google, cant hit the listed letters above, flipped into landscape to continue. Couldn't figure out still what was wrong. I went back to the 3.14 ruu, not testing it before when it was installed, and the issue persisted there as well.
So, software? Hardware? Any ideas for fixes would be greatly appreciated.
In the market download an app like touch test and go over the area that is having problems and see if they persist.
From what you have said sounds like a hardware issue. I just am not sure what you would need to do next.

Downloaded the app, dead area all the way vertical between the 6th and 9th grid
I went and wiped absolutely everything and installed cleanrom again (like you I'm doubting software is the issue.)
Going to open her back up, maybe before it was software, but this time its hardware...I don't know...
Did u ever get this resolved I am having the exact same issue but mine is a "like new replacement".
I too have a dead zone going horizontal from line 22-24, but can still use the keyboard in that space so it's not completely dead
Actually I can touch almost anything in that section, only a few apps give me fits in that area???

Op issue is similar to mine, it got to the point where I called VZW and I am having a replacement sent AGAIN! doesn't it annoy you?
Also tried touch test and yep big void right in the middle vertically on the phone but the weird thing is that it goes back to normal after a while.
Also I re flashed thinking it was a software issue but nope.
So do you think it was the cheap digitizer or bad install?
So I've into this issue lately where at the end of a call the touchscreen will become unresponsive. I basically have to wait for the other person to hang up and then the call to disconnect. Is there a way to force the phone to hang up without the touchscreen working? Or is there a reason why this is happening?
I've been experiencing the same thing. I switched from SOS to CM9 and that did the trick. I am just assuming that it was the launcher but not sure. What is your setup?

I've been asking this same question over and over and no one seems to have the answer, it happens with a lot of GB phones. I'm running a ice cream rom and its still doing it, maybe when the screen starts going nuts bcz of facial moisture, who the f knows. But I hate it. Usually when people nowaways always want me to hang up 1st. Weird but true.
Mine's done this for awhile. Sometimes it happens in the middle of texting... But it has never happened while tapping away on FPSE or other video game emulators... Very odd.
I don't have this problem with my evo. However in my gs2 it was due to a proximity sensor. It just had some stuff over the sensor. After It was cleaned it worked as normal

Dont have anything special going on, on the phone, not using a custom rom or anything. I am using a Zagg screen protector but this issue is recent as of a few months ago and pretty sporadic.
This happens to me sometimes or also when texting th message thread scrolls to the top?? All I do is lock the screen then unlock and it works fine

It's from the skin moisture that's left on the screen after you have finished speaking(especially if you speak for a long time).This issue also appears when it's raining on your phone(not heavy rain,just some drops will make it go crazy).I have tested it and after I have cleaned it with my shirts everything was normal.
This is the reason why it doesn't happen while playing/browsing or other stuff(cuz the screen is not wet).
This is the reason why I usually try to keep the phone a little far from the ear.Especially in hotter seasons.
I've had this issue on my 3D as well, I have a feeling it has something to do with the proximity sensor, but I don't feel like opening the phone up now.

I have an ongoing issue that I'm wondering if it's hardware issue or software. My 3VO will constantly be running smooth as silk one sec and the next it just stops responding to touch. If I lock the screen a second, then unlock, it goes back to normal. Some days are worse than others and depending on the Rom, it may take longer to kick in but it never fails it reverts back to non responding. It's never taken longer than 24, hours before acting up again. Any thoughts or similar experiences with this? I've done search upon search but couldnt find any thing that matched my issues. If after returning your phone back to stock and the issue still continues my guess would be its a hardware issue and not software related..
It's a hardware issue I had on my 3D. Go to Sprint about it.
The screen digitizer is about to die. Take it to sprint or replace digitizer.
