I cannot seem to get Novacom drivers installed for my Touchpad. I've tried rebooting both machine and touchpad, taken TP in and out of dev mode, tried every command line I could find for running the novacom installer, etc. I am at a loss, cannot get it to work at all. Tried searching but didn't come up with anything for novacom
I'm trying to do this while at work and am on a netbook with windows 7 starter.
Appreciate any help
OK sorry for sounding stupid but have you run the universal novacom installer? If so, what happened?

Yes, I get a message that says it has been successfully installed, but when I plug in the TP it isn't recognized. Cannot mount as USB either
Doesn't sound like a novacom issue. Maybe someone else can spread some light here

FWIW, I did get it to be seen by quick install the very first time I plugged it in but it immediately dropped it and hasn't seen it since.
I got it to see it briefly on a different computer. Now when I put it in recovery mode it comes up as unknown device again. I want to throw this [email protected]#$& thing!

I have gotten it to the point that it is seen until I put it into recovery mode. Once I put it in recovery mode and plug it in, I get device not recognized.
In an effort to remedy that issue, I wiped everything touchpad related on my computer clean to start again. Now I'm back to square one. Device not recognized and cannot mount to USB Mass storage. What the F am I missing here. Why does it work one second and not the next?
In vein, I tried to install using my old iBook but even that didn't work(thanks Steve!)
I've also moved from the netbook I was trying to install from last night, to my normal win7 machine.
Would really appreciate it if anyone is willing to work with me to resolve this
Haha. I had this same issue. i wish it would be added to the tutorial's OP. Anyway, make sure you are putting acmeinstaller in the folder . Crogram Files, Palm, Inc where the actuall Novacom drivers are. Then enter the C prompt and you're good to go. If you don't have x64 put the ACMEInstaller file wherever your computer has Palm Inc and that is the directory you CD to.
i.e. for me it was cd c:/program files/ palm inc
Ended up using an XP machine to install. Took just a few minutes. Drivers were found right away unlike in 7.

My issue with Win7/64bit were the path/file location.
Even if you download the drivers and install them correctly, you still have to execute the novacom ext.
It's in the prog files\palm folder, as said.
Had a heck of a time myself until I realized this.

For people searching for the answer.
I'm on win7 64 bit. The universal novacom install went fine. Plugged in touchpad and ran command, but novacom did not find device.
Moved usb connection to different usb port on my computer, magic.
Novacom commands worked and installed cyanogen 9.
If moving usb ports doesn't work. Disconnect usb cable, uninstall novacom via control panel, software removal. Then, reinstall novacom, and use 2nd usb port.
I seached the web, and none of these questions about novacom not finding device was answered. The above is the answer. Move usb ports.

Hello! I just rooted my Eris yesterday and when I plug my phone into my computer it doesn’t come up on my phone and ask me how I want to dock it (it is checked to ask on the phone itself) . When I first plugged it in and it tried to install the drivers it failed. Over at developer.android.com where I got and installed SDK it said to use pda.net to install drivers, which I did. So now my computer recognizes the phone and I can push apps over however the phone still will not give me the option to mount as a drive. Is there anyway I can make it mount so I can browse files in file explorer. Thank you in advance.

firstly, are you able to mount as storage in Recovery?
also, not sure about the pdanet method (never used it)... but i know that if you install HTC Sync it should work fine (link below).

To be honest, I'm not sure what I did but it works now. I plugged it into my laptop to charge and it wanted to mount with no problems. I Just tried it on my PC and it also worked. Even worked with the same usb cord I used last night so that rules out a cord problem

First, some info. I have a 32GB model, i have a 64bit windows 7 laptop, and i have novacom installed(i see all of the files in C:\Program Files\Palm, Inc) i have downloaded ACMEInstaller, and extracted the zip to the Palm, Inc folder, i have the right folder on my TP storage( cminstall ) with the cm7, moboot, cwm, and gapps zips in there. But, i get as far as typing the

into the cmd, then it just sits there. Nothing happens on the TP, just keeping at the usb screen. Until i unplug it, and make it reboot. Can someone help me out?

Mine is on 3.0.0 and says its up to date?
Ran into the same problem. Eventually had to do it on a winxp box. Tried it on a laptop and desktop with win7 and it was never able to have the PC see the tp.
You all are putting it in USB flasher mode correct?
Need to hold volume up while turning on the the Touchpad, then run novacom.
Also make sure you install the drivers before you plug in the Touchpad. Keeping in mind the 32 or 64 bit choices.

I've had my USB time out on me and it wouldn't load. I would have to re-plug the USB, retype the install to make it work.

I'm getting a "Failed to connect to server" error now.
I just installed CM7 on my mom's TP today. I don't know if this is at all related to your issue, but I failed to unzip the ACME Installer properly and wound up trying to run a 0 size file for an hour or so. Then I fixed it and it worked fine.
use linux instead of windows. it just works everytime. novaterm/novacom never fails from the terminal.
We got it working eventually. Dont know how, but we did.

I just bought an Archos 80 G9 Turbo 16GB and I cannot connect it with my computer that runs Windows 7 64bit
When I plug it, it is detected as an Unknown Device (error code 43) and nothing is mounted.. (but tablet is in "slow charge")
In an old Win XP computer is working good, this made me think it's not completely tablet's fault..
here what I've tried, deeply searching on internet:
-Downloaded ADB android Drivers (in Archos site, on internet, various sources), forced installation of them, problem come out: Drivers are not for a 64 bit Os
-Uninstalled Kies, LG Pc suite and rebooted after every change..nothing changed
-Unactivate and reactivate after reboot Windows Media Player 12..no change
-Changed Usb Mode in tablet from MTP to PTP.. nothing changed
-Installed a lot of USB apps in Google Play and tried changing values..no change
-Upgraded tablet from GingerBread to ICS, deeply wiped and restored several times, and in every configuration, I allways had same results..
-Changed USB cable, several of them tested..and guess?? Nothing..eheh
-Tried shouting at it, tried kissing and asking for his forgiveness..but nothing
I'm stuck on Stock! i cannot upgrade it with XDA custom, I can only connect to pc via FTP server....!

2. You can transfer archos.ext4.update files using FTP from pc to tablet
3. Recovery for flashing firmware update or custom kernel creates ramdisk which is seen as standard usb storage device- "just works"
You need to give full access (Everybody) to the folder where Android SDK is installed in Program Files (x86) and through Android SDK Manager select the second item "Android SDK Platfrom-tools for download.
This worked for me on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Ooops overread something... forget it!!!
Have you checked for the correct MTP driver package...

Only is an huge word, I have tried several dof them, and no one is working, no one is accepted by windows (it tells me they are not designed for the device or they are not for an x64 OS)
Strange thing, it accepted me usb drivers for Samsung Mobile, it installed them.. but not ADB from android... obviously, Samsung ones where not working with it..

Dowloaded and istalled a few from windows... the problem is, if it would be an MTP problem, I should not have it in PTP mode... I suppose...
EDIT: tried disabling Integrity Checks for non signed drivers with these string in cmd:
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON

I wrote them in Contact and support in that site, copying and pasting the same I wrote here, they answered me, two days later.. Excited in what solution they could give me,from the heights of their knowledge, I suddenly opened and the answers was:

1 thing, when you are plugging into your PC, are you plugging it into the main hub (rear of PC), or a front port?
I had a devil of a job getting mine to recognise the driver, in the it turned out it really needs to be plugged into the rear port, it may have been a conflict on my PC, but worth a shot.

Yes, tried to connect it in every usb my laptop has, even tried in disconnecting every usb device and turned off the pc. After that I took off battery for a few minutes and started again.. no change... ERROR 43...!
In the old win xp pc I use front usb I installed 10 years ago, and works..!
ADB USB drivers from archos site are not recognized, it's not possible to manually select them.. I was able to select an old symbian driver I have in an old backup directory, but not that one... any clue?

Did you try the link in my previous post? I'm running win7 64 bit and it worked for me!
Maybe just try adding the file in your USERPROFILE directory first!

OK try this :-
Download the naked universal drivers attached to this post and unzip somwhere!! (got this from the Sensation forum, would say thanks but I can't remember who posted them).
Attache your G9 then go into device manager.
Now find your badly installed driver and uninstall it. Keep doing this until all drivers are uninstalled.
Now unplug and reattach G9, let windows do it's thing. You will still have a excalamation next to "Android Drivers" at this point.
Right click on the driver in device manager and "Update Driver Software", then click "Browse My Computer....", now click on "Let Me Pick from a list...", then click the "Have Disk" button. Browse to the folder where you extracted the Universal Naked Drivers and select the andorid_winxusb.inf file.
If you get unsigned warnings click on the "trust me" or whatever it says.
Driver should now be installed.
The adb_usb.ini file is really for if you use adb, if you do it need to go in c:\users\you\.android directory (create the directory if it doesn't exist).
You can test adb connectivity by using "adb devices" from the command line.

I think this is probably because your USB cable only has 2 internal cables, not 4.
IIRC, the outside 2 are USB and data chat and the inside 2 are for 5v power.
If your G9 detects the cable doesn't have the two middle connections then it will do a slow charge regardless.
Are you using the cable you got with the G9??

Yes, I'm using the cable i got with the g9.. I could have a dual cable (the one they give to you with an external hdd), but it's mini usb, not micro...

And this is the problem.. I don't have any driver to uninstall, as if my device is an "Unknown Device" no service, no adb no mpt recognized.. only an "unknown device".. even with new drivers, the only driver it lets me install are Samsung drivers.. but obiously doesn't work!
I now tried in installing it as this samsung, just to have something to uninstall...

You are really amazing, archos is not caring at all..
Before I tried your firs suggestion in USERDEVICE and for a minute it found my device as Error 10 and not Error 43 (unknown device)... and that's the only moment my pc saw the tablet...

I too have run across this problem--AFTER woprking for 6 months with it under ADB just fine. Not just my work computer, home devices as well. Did you ever get this fixed?

So my TP is getting picked up sometime in the next 7 days for repairs (cracks and all) and I need to remove android. Couldn't find the novacom drivers online, and universal installer isn't working atm, so I got the SDK and now Device Manager (Windows 7) shows it as Palm Novacom (bootie). [Also, just noticed there is another "Unknown device" as well as the "Palm Novacom bootie" ?!?]
The problem is that when I tried to run the "novacom boot mem:// < ACMEUninstaller" command, nothing happens. I tried redownloading ACME, but still the same error. Anyone know what's up or how I can fix this.

So is the Touchpad in usb mode or recovery mode?
If u have a command window open inthe Palm, Inc directory where novacom application is and u type "novacom" u should at least
see a list of commands.
If not then u arent in the right place.

It's in Recovery Mode (with the USB sign on the black screen); sorry that's what I meant. I'm thinking it could be a problem with the drivers, but Windows recognises it
Never used the sdk but if its like android then the novacom application will be in a folder in the sdk.
so u will have to run the acmeuninstaller fron a window in that folder.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work
Same result as before... even if I run "novacom.exe" from the sdk folder, it just shows a black cmd screen
Is there any other way to wipe it?
Have you tried following the instructions in THIS THREAD ? It talks about how to completely remove everything and put the TP back to factory 3.0.0 settings.
Nope, but thanks for the link. Unfortunately the novaterm link is down and the Universal Novacom Installer always gets stuck on initialising
Edit: I'm trying to get novacom from the webOS download and novaterm from the palm folder... see how that goes I'll post back once I've tried. Thanks again for all the help.
or uninstall the sdk, delete the Palm, Inc folder.
Download any Webosdoctor from webos internals site.
Run the novacom universal installer, choose "select file", choose the webosdoctor download.
The Palm, Inc folder will be created from it and drivers installed.
If you have any copy off Webos doctor on your computer and have Java installed download Universalnovscominstaller and when or if you have it right click on the file then go down to open with and select Java(TM) Platform, the novacom installer will pop up click on install then click on select file then navigate to wherever you have Webos doctor ie desktop etc select it and hey presto the novacom drivers will be installed.
P.S do not download Webos doctor with windows explorer as for some reason it appears to mess it up , use chrome.
Done and done!
Finally managed to get it done, after trying to do it on 2 Win7 PCs, went to an old XP laptop and tried on there.
If anyone gets stuck on this and finds this thread:
I used Universal Novacom Installer and installed Novacom from webOS Doctor 3.0.5, on an XP system. After that put ACMEUninstaller in Palm, Inc folder and ran the "novacom boot....." command and Android was gone! :victory: :crying:

Happy you finally got there and thanks for clicking on the thank you box the solution I posted has been given by others so credit to everyone the bit that took me a long time was to click on open with and the fact that for what ever reason windows explorer messes up the download
hence the reason for my post.

you can also change the compatibility settings for the app youre trying to run if its not working correctly in windows 7.

The issue i'm having is that when i plug into my desktop using the USB cable, Ubuntu won't recognize my Prime and i can't move files back and forth.
The thread says to install the naked drivers (which i downloaded), but the instructions were only for windows machines. From what I can tell Ubuntu doesn't have a "Device Manager" where I could use to manually install drivers.
I've done Google searches, and searched XDA for the past week or so and I haven't come across anyone having this similar issue while using Ubuntu. If anyone can shed some light on my situation I'd greatly appreciate it.

Try uninstalling the drivers from your machine then reinstalling the basic Asus drivers by plugging the Prime in. If that doesn't do it then I'll have to load up my Ubuntu parition and see if I can debug with you that way.

The issue i'm having is that when i plug into my desktop using the USB cable, Ubuntu won't recognize my Prime and i can't move files back and forth.
The thread says to install the naked drivers (which i downloaded), but the instructions were only for windows machines. From what I can tell Ubuntu doesn't have a "Device Manager" where I could use to manually install drivers.
I've done Google searches, and searched XDA for the past week or so and I haven't come across anyone having this similar issue while using Ubuntu. If anyone can shed some light on my situation I'd greatly appreciate it.

In my experience, you do not need to download any drivers to access your Prime from an Ubuntu PC -- the naked drivers are strictly a Windows thing from what I remember. You need to set up the 51-android.rules file in the /etc/udev/rules folder. And, you may or may not need to make an entry in adb_usb.ini (I believe this file is in a hidden folder) -- try it without first. If you do a little research on 51-android.rules, you will see that this is quite easy. And, the vendor and device numbers you need to plug into 51-android.rules can be obtained by typing lsusb at the terminal command line, with your Prime plugged into the PC. You also need to have debugging turn on under Developer Options in Settings. After you change the 51-android.rules file, you need to log off and log back on, so it gets run (there is another way to run it, but I do not remember how). I am away from my Prime and Ubuntu machine, but can get you further details later, if you cannot figure it out from the above information.
(P.S.) Giving you the path and file names from my memory. They are probably correct ... at least they are very close to being correct.
So, I wrote the 51-android.rules file like you suggested but I still can't access most files on my prime. When I tell it to connect as a camera i can view picutres, but when it connects as MTP I still get nothing.I looked in the /dev directory to see if i could find my SD card to continue on with the Ubuntu installation, but no luck there either.Your suggestions have been helping though, i'm getting closer. Thanks to both of you who replied so far.

51-android.rules is really for giving you access to your TFP with adb and other Linux commands in Terminal (Android Debugging must be enabled under Developer Options for this to work). 51-android.rules has nothing to do with PTP (camera) or MTP, as far as I know. I really do not know what you are trying to do, or at least how you are trying to do it, so it is difficult to suggest anything. If you are just trying to copy files to the TFP, you may have better luck with Windows than Linux. I'm pretty sure that most of the TFP's file system does not show up in the Linux File Browser, when plugged in to a USB port (only PTP & MTP work, as far as I know ... both are limited).
There are many users on this site who can help you, if you explain exactly what you are trying to do.
