First, some info. I have a 32GB model, i have a 64bit windows 7 laptop, and i have novacom installed(i see all of the files in C:\Program Files\Palm, Inc) i have downloaded ACMEInstaller, and extracted the zip to the Palm, Inc folder, i have the right folder on my TP storage( cminstall ) with the cm7, moboot, cwm, and gapps zips in there. But, i get as far as typing the

into the cmd, then it just sits there. Nothing happens on the TP, just keeping at the usb screen. Until i unplug it, and make it reboot. Can someone help me out?

Mine is on 3.0.0 and says its up to date?
Ran into the same problem. Eventually had to do it on a winxp box. Tried it on a laptop and desktop with win7 and it was never able to have the PC see the tp.
You all are putting it in USB flasher mode correct?
Need to hold volume up while turning on the the Touchpad, then run novacom.
Also make sure you install the drivers before you plug in the Touchpad. Keeping in mind the 32 or 64 bit choices.

I've had my USB time out on me and it wouldn't load. I would have to re-plug the USB, retype the install to make it work.

I'm getting a "Failed to connect to server" error now.
I just installed CM7 on my mom's TP today. I don't know if this is at all related to your issue, but I failed to unzip the ACME Installer properly and wound up trying to run a 0 size file for an hour or so. Then I fixed it and it worked fine.
use linux instead of windows. it just works everytime. novaterm/novacom never fails from the terminal.
We got it working eventually. Dont know how, but we did.

So, I've never had a problem with ODIN before, but today, while trying to ODIN back to stock (Obsidian V2 isn't working, so I'm seeing if that's the problem) I got the little Windows Error Message that says "USB Device Not Recognized" and then some other bull****. I know that I installed the Drivers (at least I think they were the right drivers) and I plugged into all 4 of my USB ports and still get the same message.
I had the same issue once. Try uninstalling the drivers you have and download and install a fresh set. That worked for me.

The drivers are installed, reinstalled, and re-reinstalled. I even tried to go in and change it to the right drivers myself, but no dice...
I had this problem, and got it fixed. Download the 64 bit drivers, you can find the link in the vibrant bible, and it should dl as a zip file. Unzip it on your pc, then from your windows device manager, reinstall the drivers for the unrecognized device, and point it at the 64 bit drivers folder you just unzipped. It should load the drivers and be recognized. If other devices also pop up, point them at the same folder. I did this oj a 32 bit win7 system and it worked great. Good luck.

try a different computer, i have had this happen to me, google how to uninstall ghost drivers or hidden drivers.

I've only got the one Windows machine at my house... I can't do anything else until my mom gets back into town this weekend.
Sorry I assumed you were somewhat of an advanced user. If you are using a windows system, download and unzip the 64 bit drivers I mentioned above. Access Windows device manager from the control panel to view the systems devices. The devices that are not loaded properly will be easy to identify. You the right click on the device, choose "reinstall driver", then "have driver file" (or something very similar, i don't have the specific verbage in front of me), and then select the folder where you unzipped the previously mentioned 64 bit drivers. It should then load the drivers and recognize the device. As a note, you should have your phone in dl mode and plugged in so that windows actively sees the phone.
Hope this helps and its not over your head. I work in IT sometimes my explanations can be too technical, but i tried not to do that here. If your near central colorado I'd offer some in person help at this point. Hope you can get it fixed.

ah, thanks... I wouldn't call myself advanced... adept at best. Before I got the Vibrant, I was a HARDCORE Apple fan... Still an Apple fan, but not so hardcore lol
So I tried doing exactly what you said and it keeps saying "Your device drivers are already up-to-date" even though it still shows up as "Unknown Device" and already said "Device Driver Software could not be found"
Did you let it auto detect the driver or did you select have disk and then browse to the unzipped driver folder?

I tried both.
At this point, the last advice i have is to completely uninstall all drivers for the galaxy s, from add remove programs, then reboot your pc and try the 64 bit installation again before reinstalling the normal drivers, if that doesnt work, see if you can use a friends pc, install the normal drivers and see if it works on a different computer.

Brand new to the gTablet, just got it a few hours ago... Following the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 on installing clockwork/tnt/etc... After I install the TNT, everything appears to be working fine until I try and use the USB with my computer. As soon as I plug it in(before I even select to mount usb or debug mode) my computer blue screens and does a memory dump(Windows 7 64-bit). In Ubuntu on same machine, it locks...
I've found a couple threads but nothing that seems to apply specifically to my problem.
Anyone have any thoughts?

EDIT: I just found out it does this even if I'm at the clockwork recovery menu and plug the usb cord in...
Not sure what the issue is, but I was able to use a different machine just fine. The laptop it isn't working with is by far my newest and fastest machine, I assume it must be a driver issue or something... Hopefully this is eventually figured out.

I just received my gtab yesterday off the woot deal. Same exact problem; brought it to work and hooked it up to a $3K machine and it bluescreened immediately. My crappy Acer at home (~450 bones) is fine.
One weird thing is that I loaded the Flash .apk on the tab before I left for work, but when I try to navigate to it, the file directory looks completely different. Also, I don't have any "restore" entries listed. I've wiped cache user data but no dice.
I'm also on the most recent version of TnT Lite (4.4.0) btw.

Try a different USB cable. This is the first incident of this kind I have seen
here since last November. And I run Win7 64-bit with both of my G-Tablets.

I cannot seem to get Novacom drivers installed for my Touchpad. I've tried rebooting both machine and touchpad, taken TP in and out of dev mode, tried every command line I could find for running the novacom installer, etc. I am at a loss, cannot get it to work at all. Tried searching but didn't come up with anything for novacom
I'm trying to do this while at work and am on a netbook with windows 7 starter.

Yes, I get a message that says it has been successfully installed, but when I plug in the TP it isn't recognized. Cannot mount as USB either

FWIW, I did get it to be seen by quick install the very first time I plugged it in but it immediately dropped it and hasn't seen it since.

I have gotten it to the point that it is seen until I put it into recovery mode. Once I put it in recovery mode and plug it in, I get device not recognized.
In an effort to remedy that issue, I wiped everything touchpad related on my computer clean to start again. Now I'm back to square one. Device not recognized and cannot mount to USB Mass storage. What the F am I missing here. Why does it work one second and not the next?
In vein, I tried to install using my old iBook but even that didn't work(thanks Steve!)
I've also moved from the netbook I was trying to install from last night, to my normal win7 machine.

Haha. I had this same issue. i wish it would be added to the tutorial's OP. Anyway, make sure you are putting acmeinstaller in the folder . Crogram Files, Palm, Inc where the actuall Novacom drivers are. Then enter the C prompt and you're good to go. If you don't have x64 put the ACMEInstaller file wherever your computer has Palm Inc and that is the directory you CD to.
i.e. for me it was cd c:/program files/ palm inc
Ended up using an XP machine to install. Took just a few minutes. Drivers were found right away unlike in 7.

My issue with Win7/64bit were the path/file location.
Even if you download the drivers and install them correctly, you still have to execute the novacom ext.
It's in the prog files\palm folder, as said.
Had a heck of a time myself until I realized this.

For people searching for the answer.
I'm on win7 64 bit. The universal novacom install went fine. Plugged in touchpad and ran command, but novacom did not find device.
Moved usb connection to different usb port on my computer, magic.
Novacom commands worked and installed cyanogen 9.
If moving usb ports doesn't work. Disconnect usb cable, uninstall novacom via control panel, software removal. Then, reinstall novacom, and use 2nd usb port.
I seached the web, and none of these questions about novacom not finding device was answered. The above is the answer. Move usb ports.

After 3 unsuccessful installs (which I now believe are attributed to the system partition size of only 200 rather than 250 [help here would also be apprciated]) i downloaded the latest Rom Manager and updated ClockWork Mod. After the initial scare that my SD card had been totally formatted, i found that for some reason, this new CWM likes to use the second SD card... You know, the one with no backups or anything saved to it. For now, I am running a random ROM (Vegan Gingerbread) until i find out how to switch the SD card read by CMW. So any help guys? It's probably something really simple I'm over looking.. Help is appreciated greatly. Thanks

The best way to install CWM is through NVflash. Rom manager is really designed for phones not this tablet. NVflash is simple and easy to use as long as you have a desktop or laptop using either windows or Linux. Here is the link to guide you through those steps. Helped me out when I was in a jam.

Thanks for the advice! NVFlashing is a tad of a problem for me, however. I've actually commented on that particualr NVFlashing tutorial earlier today explaining how my computer won't recognize my tablet while it's in APX mode. I seem to have the worst luck with this kid of thing..

Do not use Rom Manager on the Gtablet it will mess things up. You can go to this link and download a .zip installable version of CWM for your bootloader. There are versions for installing from either the internal or external sdcard. If you are not installing from the external sdcard, it is best to remove it.

It sure does mess things up! And that CWM.zip would be great had I not had another (worse) version already installed.. woe is me. I'll give those threads a read tomorrow and hope something turns up. Thanks for the links!

That would be the way to go but if you can't access the current CWM you cannot get it to install anything. The only other alternative would be to figure out why the computer won't recognize the tablet in APX mode. What OS are you trying it with?
Try this:
Download this .zip file and extract it to your Gtablet's sdcard.
Using a root file manager (ES, Root Explorer, etc.) mount /system as read-write (rw) and move the downloaded files in each folder to their proper locations (copy the system/etc/recovery folder into /system/etc and the files in system/bin into /system/bin) and make sure all the permissions are correct. The recovery images should be -rw-r--r--, the scripts inside of /bin should be -rwxr-xr-x and flash_image should be -rw-r--r--.
Open a terminal emulator and type 'su' (without quotes) and allow SuperUser when it asks. Your shell prompt should go from a '$' to a '#'. Now type 'cwmrecovery.sh' (without quotes) and enter. That should install cwm-08 for you, just exit when it finishes and try to reboot into recovery. You can use the 'fixrecovery.sh' script to flash the stock 1.1 recovery if you ever need to.

Just extracted to the external SD that was being read from and updated from there with the new CWM and bam! .08 is on and working like a charm. Many thanks!

The OS on the tablet doesn't matter since the APX mode is the tablets download mode. The OS on you computer is what might be the issue, or could even be just a bad USB port or even drivers being used. If the computer keeps promptings that software needs to be installed. Guied the it to install them from the extracted NVflash file and install the ones that are in the pack.

As the post above said, the OS on your PC is probably your problem. Which OS are you using? WinXP, Win7? I can't for the life of me get Windows7 to recognize my ICS Gtablet but o'well!
If you are comfortable with using or trying Linux, you could try installing Knoppix on a USB drive and run that. I think Knoppix has everything set up for MTP & ADB already and is 'live' so no real configuration is needed to get it running (except for your wifi of course). Just use the Linux version included in most NvFlash packages. If you have a fairly powerful computer, you could also try running Linux in a VM, but Knoppix doesn't run in a VM very well.
My favorite is Arch Linux (not in a VM). Although you have to build and configure the system yourself from the ground up. Since I started using Linux I have really enjoyed it. It is much faster than Windows, more secure and gives me less problems than the Win PCs I deal with. Check out this site if you are interested in Linux.

To top on this excellent information. If you decided to try a Linux disto I would recommend a version of Ubuntu, doesn't really matter which one they are all really user friendly and depending on you pc setup depends on which version of it you can use. I have 11.05 installed on a 2nd partition for doing my Droid stuff on a computer that is around 9 years old, runs smooth. Windows xp is the other alternative which I have used several times NVflashing stuff, but adb seems to run better through Linux in my opinion.
Ah, mind went blank there. Right now, all I have is a windows 7 laptop (my XP desktop and older Vista laptop are probably long gone) Ive attempted to flash before with the vista laptop to no avail. In both instances, I connect the tablet in APX and it was not even recognized as a connected device. I'm hesitant to run Linux, even from a flash drive. If I get the chance to soon, I may very well end up doing it, as it appears the ONLY option.. Thanks for your help guys. If you haven't already tried this maybe it will work for you.
- Put the tablet into APX mode, then plug in the USB. Windows7 will drag on then fail installing the drivers, as usual.
- Go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Device Manager and find the '!' (unknown device)
- Right click and choose Properties, then Uninstall Driver (if it is an option)
- Next, click on Update Driver, then choose Browse My Computer ...
- Navigate to the NVFlash folder (the one you extracted from the nvflash .zip you downloaded)
- Open the folder inside called 'usbpcdriver' or similar, and select the .inf file (NvidiaUsb.inf) and choose to install it. Once it installs, it should recognize the tablet as a MTP device. If not turn off the tablet, unplug the USB, restart Windows and plug it back in when it is finished rebooting and start the tablet in APX mode again. If it still doesn't recognize it try the whole process over agian.
I can understand being hesitant toward running Linux but running from a flash drive or in a VM is pretty safe, as in if you mess up the OS you can always start over without damaging Windows. Done it many times! Try running Ubuntu in a virtual machine such as Virtual Box, it is almost as user friendly as windows and you can have the VM capture USB devices such as the Gtablet which Ubuntu should recognize. Probably won't run very fast on a laptop but if you have at least a dual core with 2 GB of ram it should be pretty smooth.
Not trying to push Linux on you or anything, just some suggestions. From what I hear most of the Gtab devs use Windows7 and it seems to work great for them!

Couldn't find the novacom drivers online, and universal installer isn't working atm, so I got the SDK and now Device Manager (Windows 7) shows it as Palm Novacom (bootie). [Also, just noticed there is another "Unknown device" as well as the "Palm Novacom bootie" ?!?]
The problem is that when I tried to run the "novacom boot mem:// < ACMEUninstaller" command, nothing happens. I tried redownloading ACME, but still the same error. Anyone know what's up or how I can fix this.

So is the Touchpad in usb mode or recovery mode?
If u have a command window open inthe Palm, Inc directory where novacom application is and u type "novacom" u should at least
see a list of commands.
If not then u arent in the right place.

It's in Recovery Mode (with the USB sign on the black screen); sorry that's what I meant. I'm thinking it could be a problem with the drivers, but Windows recognises it
Never used the sdk but if its like android then the novacom application will be in a folder in the sdk.
so u will have to run the acmeuninstaller fron a window in that folder.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work
Same result as before... even if I run "novacom.exe" from the sdk folder, it just shows a black cmd screen
Is there any other way to wipe it?
Have you tried following the instructions in THIS THREAD ? It talks about how to completely remove everything and put the TP back to factory 3.0.0 settings.
Nope, but thanks for the link. Unfortunately the novaterm link is down and the Universal Novacom Installer always gets stuck on initialising
Edit: I'm trying to get novacom from the webOS download and novaterm from the palm folder... see how that goes I'll post back once I've tried. Thanks again for all the help.
or uninstall the sdk, delete the Palm, Inc folder.
Download any Webosdoctor from webos internals site.
Run the novacom universal installer, choose "select file", choose the webosdoctor download.
The Palm, Inc folder will be created from it and drivers installed.
If you have any copy off Webos doctor on your computer and have Java installed download Universalnovscominstaller and when or if you have it right click on the file then go down to open with and select Java(TM) Platform, the novacom installer will pop up click on install then click on select file then navigate to wherever you have Webos doctor ie desktop etc select it and hey presto the novacom drivers will be installed.
P.S do not download Webos doctor with windows explorer as for some reason it appears to mess it up , use chrome.
Done and done!
Finally managed to get it done, after trying to do it on 2 Win7 PCs, went to an old XP laptop and tried on there.

I used Universal Novacom Installer and installed Novacom from webOS Doctor 3.0.5, on an XP system. After that put ACMEUninstaller in Palm, Inc folder and ran the "novacom boot....." command and Android was gone! :victory: :crying:

Happy you finally got there and thanks for clicking on the thank you box the solution I posted has been given by others so credit to everyone the bit that took me a long time was to click on open with and the fact that for what ever reason windows explorer messes up the download
hence the reason for my post.

Just had my TP collected today by UPS. Let's hope when I get it back and try to put android again I won't have to go through this hell again
you can also change the compatibility settings for the app youre trying to run if its not working correctly in windows 7.
