[Q] Flashing Kernel - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello sorry if this is obvious or answered in a different thread (searched, couldn't find a specific answer. I'm trying to install the MIUI prime 003 rom, so I rooted my phone using this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196421). It worked, then I tried to install the custom kernels provided in the MIUI prime thread. Every time I tried to though it would abort the flash and tell me there is an error. Is this because I need a unlocked bootloader?
Thank you for your time.

Exactly mate

Am I missing something?

Hey guys I'm new to posting on here so forgive me if this is in the wrong area. I have rooted using HTCs method due to 1.5 hboot. From what I've gathered I cannot flash a kernel through recovery but when I do attempt to flash a kernel it says completed. For example if I flash a new ROM and I get the WiFi error message I flash another kernel then my WiFi works. My main question is am i really successfully flashing a kernel or does it just say it did. I would think if it wasn't working then my WiFi error would continue.
Thanks

I'm not sure which method you are using to flash roms.
But using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821
second post in the thread.
I've flashed many roms and kernels that way, after doing the htc unlock, and I've had no problems.

You got an accidental "thanks", congrats on your first lol.
If you go into menu>settings>about phone, your kernel is listed there. Good luck!
Thanks! I flash roms through TWRP recovery. When I attempt to flash a kernel I do it through TWRP as well. Is there a chance that I can successfully flash kernels through recovery even though I rooted htcs way? What I'm getting at is everyone seems to not like to root with htcs way but I'm not really seeing the drawback to it.

Each phone is quirky, so it's possible you got lucky, a S-off dev phone, or "like new" previously rooted phone. If it works, I wouldn't question it
LOL I have s-on that's what is so puzzling oh well LOL

Coming from motorola

Hi, I came from the Motorola bravo and now I have the x10a. I noticed things are a lot different here from there. I want to install a custom Rom but keep my bootloader locked. Is that possible? And also what Rom would you recommend for stability and speed? How do you overlook on the stock Rom? Sorry for all the questions, xperia is so much different from Motorola so I want to make sure my phone doesnt get bricked.

Hello and welcome to x10 xda. Yes, you can flash locked bootloader ROMs as long as you updated latest 2.3.3official GB from sony pc companion, to get compatible baseband for most roms. Then, get your 2.3.3 rooted and installed xrecovery. Last is, download you desired ROM.zip and updates. Remember visit their thread and follow instruction properly.
If you are newcomer for rooting x10/flashing, you may visit my signature link for pdf guides. Although older version, but more stable and reliable and higher success to failure ratio.
For recommending awesome and smooth Roms for locked bootloader, try donutHD 2.2.8jelly bean. Its the best now for locked and unlocked bootloader. I got link too in my signature.
All the best

Thank you for your help. You are very much appreciated

[Q] Cyanogenmod Bootloader Locked

I have a question, I have a xperia S (lt26i), and I have allowed bootloader status "no", I have the generic 4.0.4 android world, but hey seen you can install the root cwm and also do not need the boot loader unlocked, having locked bootloader could install cyanogenmod 9?? or any way to get it having locked bootloader without having to flash the kernel?
If this was in the right section you would get your answer a lot faster as a lot of people now ignore question threads in the GENERAL section.

Not yet would be the right answer as some people are working on trying to get custom kernel onto a locked bootloader as this is the thing stopping users with locked bootloaders have cm ://

I read somewhere that putting a generic rom 4.0.4 in specific and having locked bootloader cwm installed, you could install CM9, 9 not 10, because the kernel was compatible with CM9 and did not need to flash another kernel. And would have locked bootloader CM9 with and without flash kernel.
Its possible. You have to wait. check this thread, you can understand.

[Q] Root[Locked Bootloader]Xperia Neo V with Stock ROM 4.02.A.0.62

Hi,
I am new in rooting android. Let me explain you all my issues in detail as I've been searching for long but didn't got any info regarding my case.
Scene:::
I never rooted my Xperia neo v.
I updated to Official ICS latest firmware. My neo was running fine for about 4 to 5 months (except it was laggy).
Recently, When I turned on the bluetooth , it got stuck in bootloop . So, searched and from the great developers help in this forum, I got the solution to Falsh my neo v with stock rom . I did and now I've 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Now,My questions are:::
Q1. Can I root my Neo V without unlocking the bootloader ?
Q2. I tried the Fastboot method but Android SDK Manager doesn't run on my Windows 8 64bit, tried to fix it too but it didn't fix. So any alternate solution to this method?
Q3. Also, When I check via *#*#7378423#*#*, it says 'Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes'.Does it mean I've an Unloackedbootloader?
And it might sound a lil stupid, But Please can I have the detail rooting solution according to my above questions?
Thanks all,
Akash
First of all there's no connection in rooting and bootloader.
Rooting is simply giving super user capabilities or allowing root acess, like admin rights in windows.which stock android os don't provide for security reasons.
If your bootloader is locked you can't install other kernels accept the default sony provided kernels, but you can root, install other custom roms like ihave zellycream v2.meanwhile in unlocked bootloader you can flash with custom kernel of your choice.
The message ur getting means you have a locked bootloader, which can b unlocked.to unlocking there are several methods..you can get by searching the forum.
About me I have a locked bootloader. And on zellycream v2 rom.
