Get upgrade pricing without being elgible - HTC Rezound

I wanted post this , as it has worked twice for me in the past.
When the Dinc came out, I wanted to switch from my BB storm to the dinc but I did not have an upgrade available to me. I called telesales and just said i wanted to upgrade bla bla (I let them figure out that I was not eligible for the upgrade). When he finally realized that I would not get upgrade pricing (about the middle of the sale) he said I would have to pay full retail for the phone.
I calmly asked him if there was a way I could get an upgrade, and after placing me on hold a few times, he finally said "no". From here, I started a conversation with him on ways I could get an upgrade, making sure to ask his opinion. After a few seconds of this, i acted like I had a brainstorm idea.
me - If I was a new customer I could get the new activation price correct
him - yes
me - So if I canceled service, the new customer pricing plus the early termination fee would be less than the full cost of the phone
him - I suppose so, yes
me - Okay, lets do that then, because i really hate my Storm and I want the dinc
him - can you hold a min for me
me - sure (wait 5 min)
him - sir, it looks like i will be able to get you that u that upgrade pricing afterall
me - really! Thats good news
The next day I had a Dinc in the mail. I also did this when I switched from the Dinc to the Samsung Charge and it worked.
The key i think is to NOT make it obvious this was the intent of your call, and make it seem like a genuine option. Dont be angry, dont be like "FINE ILL JUST CANCEL THEN!!!!!"
If they send call your bluff, then just change your mind at the last second "on second thought, I should check with my wife before I just cancel our service, Can I have your extension so I can call back after I talk to her"
the LAST thing any sales rep wants during their day is a service cancellation. They have metrics on signed up vs cancellations, and it is their job to keep you at almost any cost.
Hope this helps some of you!

I take it good ol' fashioned verbal flirtation doesn't quite do it anymore ;P

I tried something like that once, but the salesman's response was something like "you COULD do that', but then you have to pay the early termination fee." Add that to the 2-year contract price of the phone and it would have been abour the same as paying full price.
Guess I shouldn't have given up after that!
I have heard from several people that store managers can give you the upgrade if they really want to make the sale. Of course, you have to be in the store for that.

Hang up and call again. The guy I talked to gave me a completely different runaround, he said if I was 13 months into my current contract then I could get an early upgrade.
Same thing happened when I bought my droid incredible off of eBay. First person who talked to me said I couldn't active it, so I hung up. Called again, next person didn't even question it, he just activated it and bam it worked.

ive been trying this approach a few times a day since i heard wed that we could order early, but no dice. one lady tried really hard for me, she looked on the web and saw people were getting it early after i told her about, she was then on a mission to get one for me but finally said that it had been totally turned off and she couldn't find a work around.
oh well, tomorrow is the day!!

the quad-core phones are due out 1st Q 2012, so... we can call back then & say "I feel I was taken for a sucker... I just bougt this fancy top-of-the-line dual-core phone and now 3 months later you have quad-core!?... I want to talk to your supervisor!"...

haha That's a good one! !

If you use this method you would lose your phone number right?

you don't actually cancel/re-sign... it's just b.s.'ing them into giving you upgrade price.

upgrade in april.....how can i get it now?

just looking for some tips or something..
I have an upgrade on April 3rd..how can i get it sooner?...I was wondering how I can persuade a Verizon rep into giving it to me now, (or when TB comes out) anyone ever accomplish this? or is there no way they would do that?

1) Good luck on the early upgrade. My NE2 is due in May. If it works for you, send him my way
2) If the TBolt release date keeps slipping you and I will both be able to use our upgrades

I did it when my OS went out on blackberry storm and when my HTC Incredible's display got sweat behind it. I was also having signal issues with the HTC. Now I have a Facinate (my third) with all kinds of issues and am hoping to get it swapped out too. The bottom line is... I don't think they will swap out phones without you having major documented issues with your current phone. I'm very lucky that I have a great Verizon store by me and understanding reps. Just my 2 cents. Heck, who knows!!? It doesn't hurt to ask! I Good luck!

Someone on here awhile back suggested getting your upgrade date moved forward under the guise of wanting to order an iPhone, then since it is changed in the system, get the Thunderbolt instead.

If you want to get the T-Bird before your upgrade date, you can buy it new by adding another line to your account -- $10. (The price of the T-Bird is the same whether you're upgrading or buying it new.) After you buy, go to Verizon store and switch the phone numbers so your current number is on the T-Bird. Once your upgrade date is passed, cancel the extra line. You'll pay $10 extra for a couple of months, but you'll have the new T-Bird.
This may sound shady, but it's perfectly legit if you think about it. And no, they won't move up your upgrade date.
I spoke to a rep on the phone yesterday and asked about the same thing (my upgrade is on 4/8). She told me that the most they can move your upgrade date is 30 days. So I suggest calling them on 3/3 and asking them about it.

Aren't they going to require a data package on the new line, and require keeping the data on the old line as well?
Each line with a smart phone needs a data plan.

I keep an old flip phone just to use as a third line phone..... but yes you need to have a data plan with every smartphone and I think you need a phone on every line.
Before Verizon changed their upgrade rules, you were able to upgrade after 13 months on a 2yr contract. If it was on a family plan, it had to be the main line. I was able to do this every since the BB Tour came out. I got an Eris 4 months later at the discounted price. I did this when the D2 came out as well. Now it took me calling back and forth until I got a cool rep and did it for me. Each rep had their reasons why they couldnt and why the others did it for me werent supposed to. To get the D2, took me 3 days of trying of about 3-8 calls a day. I upgrade on that time, 11 months early. When I called today, I was told, wont be happening anymore because of their new policy.
W/e you decide to do, you have a better chance of doing it over the phone as the rules are different for them than retail. I have to wait until July, so I feel your pain. =( But it will be the first time I have ever used my new every 2 cuz I have never waited this long before, lol.

This information was good to know, I have the upgrade on the same date (4/3) but I'm not going to bother pulling strings until an exact release date is announced. How exactly did you convince Verizon to move your upgrade date? I'm just curious which number I should call when it gets announced so I can try to negotiate with them.
I just went through the 611 on my phone and selected the upgrade option. When the rep answered, I straight up asked lol. The only catch is you have to call within the 30 days of your upgrade. You can't move your upgrade date until then.

I knew I was going to get hosed trying to get my EVO 3D...

I was one of the many who lost their existing full upgrade when the Premier rules changed (had full upgrade in Feb, lost it in April). I'm still Premier Silver. Two separate chat sessions were unproductive in trying to get my upgrade eligibility "fully" changed so that it showed on the website, they just told me to call telesales when the phone is available and they'll fix it for you and order the phone. I called this morning at 9:15 EST to order the phone, and after a huge runaround she said that she was working with the Premier department and that as soon as she was able to resolve the issue and order the phone she would call me back. Wasn't expecting anything, but was hopeful. So 3pm rolls around and I just can't take it anymore, and I try again. The guy I talk to puts me on the infamous "no more than 2 minutes" hold five times for a total of 20 minutes on hold, and finally comes back with a final answer of "I advise you to wait until the 24th and go to a store or use the online link and use your $75 upgrade". Couldn't get anywhere with him even though I was very polite but firm. Kept explaining the Premier can buy it on the 21st, and he just kept repeating his "advice". Very, very frustrating. I am starting vacation on Friday and really wanted to get the phone bought and set up before I left! I wouldn't be whining if I didn't know that other people were able to get their dates reset easily... I could have just ordered the durn phone this morning if they just would have done it right. It seems the Premier preorders are backordered, so I lost that opportunity, and based on what happened today who says they will be able to give me the full upgrade as I was promised on Friday, if I can even get one?
Any Sprint insiders have advice or a hookup for me?
I'm actually mad that he didn't ask me at the end of the call if he was able to resolve all my concerns today...
Argh.
Do the same thing. If you get the same answer again, ask for the retention deparment... See how quickly things roll from there.

Yeah I was in the same boat as you man REALLY disappointed last night after all I had gone through even yesterday to get it taken care of. once again told yesterday that it would be resolved. Still shows $75. Whatever Friday is almost here. Started getting worried that I didn't even get a call from my sprint store, but remembered they will not start calling until Wed evening. So god help them if I don't get a call tomorrow.
why are you awaiting a callback .. call the number in the thread as linked by Zabalba
I had the same issue as well but I got mine resolved by calling up sprint and just asking for it they put me on the line with a supervisory he checked with the premium department and gave me my upgrades so I never had any issues getting my phone.

Thank you for this, called the direct line and got my upgrade pushed up to launch day
In one call. after I tried *7 three times and got told nothing we can do.
Thanks everyone. Just like one of the ambulance chaser ads on local TV, "One call, that's all!" Reset my eligibility, ordered online. Now let's see when I get it...
Wish I would have ranted earlier in the day
You just have to ask the right people your questions.
not really getting hosed either way.
it was a great offer while it lasted.
but it would be nice for it to work out for ya.
Yeah i knew I was going to get screwed over with the "changing the upgrade" issue on my premiere account, so I actually started resolving my issue 3 weeks ago so I would be ready for launch. But for me they kept telling me that I have that override note on my account but I wanted it to show on the Best buy computers and on my account that I had the actual upgrade option. So I had to be annoying and threatened to cancel (this was done through email) and lo and behold I got a personal call from someone in the retention department assuring me they were going to change my upgrade status and got rid of that override note. And it worked.. it now says I can upgrade now on my account. So you really need to threaten to cancel to get the eligibility on your account and not that override note.
But since release date is a couple days away make sure to actually call and request a superior and mention to cancel, but obviously don't be rude, it's not the customer's reps fault
Chat does NOTHING, you have to call to get good service. (for most part).
My sister-in-law had this same problem. I called them because she had a $150 upgrade back in November of 2010, and all of a sudden it came up on her account page a week ago that she only had $75 upgrade.
I called and told them to cancel the account, and I wasn't dealing with their thieving company anymore, and I was going to get an iPhone tomorrow (which I wasn't, but I figured it would work).
Within about 2 minutes I had $150 upgrade (on both lines, and the second one wasn't due for a $75 upgrade until December 2011), and a $110 credit on my bill.

I'm going to disagree, i get 100x farther on chat than phone.
No xfering, no disconnects, practically no hold time.
no attitudes in text, and the best part is they email you the chat long so you can hold them the F to what they say haha.
I just called the linked number and bam...all taking care of, just waiting on confirmation so i can get it odered

almost got hoed on the 150 upgrade
Yeah they switched that premier status crap on me during the middle of my 1 yr upgrade...I have been with them almost 10 years in october then i would of been able to upgrade to 150 On october 1st for being a gold premier customer...Well right after my year warranty i Accidently dropped my phone on the concrete at my pool last weekend and spider webbed my screen.. Made the call to sprint cause i almost made a claim and changed my mind to get the screen fixed at a 3rd party store..I really didnt want to pay the 100 bucks for a new standard evo.Well i got a phone call from a sprint representative saying that sprint upped my upgrade status to a gold premier customer without me even *****ing to get it and said i could get the phone for 199 with a 2 yr contract and trade in my old evo for 150 on my phone. So now im getting the evo 3d for 50 bucks.
I just became eligible for my 75 discount. I am a premier silver customer. I called sprint and used my Jedi mind tricks and managed to get not only upgrade for 150 discount but also a 200 dollar instant rebate. So I made my order earlier today for only 219.59 after tax. A little charm goes a long way with the right Rep. Good luck.

Call up Sprint at 877-775-4886 and ask for your upgrade eligibility to be reset. I had to call them today to get my full 2 year eligibility back. It was easy as pie, just be nice to them when you ask for the reset.

All I did was email them through the website. Explained to them that if I wasn't going to get the full upgrade then I was going to be closing my accounts and going to one of the others. They sent me an email in return stating that they would reinstate my full upgrade through the telesales. I then emailed them back saying that I had already had one on preorder and would the full upgrade be marked on my account. I immediately got an email stating that this would be the case. I have printed off the copies and when I goto RS on friday to upgrade if I have any problems I have proof of my conversation. Try going that route. Got all my answers and feedback within 16hrs. Good luck.

Terrible Experience Pre-Ordering Note at Best Buy!

When i found out Best buy was taking pre orders for the Note and offering a free case i went down and tried to pre order. I was buying the phone outright for retail as im not elgible to upgrade. When i got there i found the phone was selling for $749.99; $100.00 more than at&t, however ive had no problem with getting them to price match before hand. So i asked the employee if they would and he confirmed with the manager however he said i would not be able to pre order due to the price match descrepency and that i would have to come in on launch day to get one and i would still get the case just let the manager know the situation. So when Sunday came i was the second person there. First of all i had to wait about 30 minutes for 3 of Mobile Dept employees were tending to the only person before me, then when i asked the employee about the phone he didnt even know what it was!!! He went to the "manager" and the manager came out and showed me the phone and started telling me about it. This is where i started getting p!ssed off. He first tends to tell me they dont have the phone in blue... only black... :-].. HUH?? secondly he starts talking about how its "cool because it has a stylus like the nintendo DS"... I kinda told him it was an S-Pen and what it could do and he just looked at me and said "same thing" and walked away!!!. At this point i was annoyed after waiting and the employees lack of professionalism/knowledge so i wanted to get the phone and just leave. I told the other employee i would be buying without contract, about the price match policy and that i had still wanted the free case that i was promised. He called the manager back and the manager said the most they could do is give me the case for 50% off since i waited for so long!!! We argued back & forth as i felt i was lied to and jipped. I told him i was paying $700+ for a phone choosing to go thru them only for the black tie protection plan and it was crap that I was told otherwise about getting the free case. He kind of chuckled at me then told me "i was free to go elsewhere but thats what he could do"!!! Then when they finally opened my phone and activated it all 3 employees and the manager were looking at it and playing with it for a good minute or 2 before even giving it to me! It got to the point where the manager was like "ohh sorry but weve never seen one of these things powered on and we wanted to look at it"... This particular location used to be awsome. Im a Silver Rewards Zone member and i would know all the employees by name... i knew as soon as i walked into a dept i would be harassed by that dept rep if i needed help. They were knowledgable and friendly. Those days are sense gone and now they have a whole new slew of workers that dont know anything, and look annoyed to even do their job. Its impossible to get them to even help you out if you need it without having to chase one of them down. Did anyone else have any issues with Pre-ordering or price matching?
Please use the return key.

The moral of the story is, order directly from AT&T next time. Best Buy always jacks up the off-contract price. It has never been worth it to buy a mobile phone from them. They could give me a free case studded in diamonds and I still wouldn't buy the phone from them.
Also, paragraph breaks are your friend.
Sorry to hear your issues in getting your GNote. I have bought at Best Buy and always had good service. Looks like Best Buy and ATT borked up the pre-ordering for this phone. I heard stories of people who had pre-ordered from both finally give it up and walk in on launch day and buy the phone.
I did not pre order, but I get mine on launch day. It seems like these phones are launching so quickly that all employees are not up to speed on all the phones, specs or even that they are launching that day. That is why once you get someone good, stick with them!

Sorry those people sucked haha it does happen sometimes. I work for BBYM and I can tell you that some are not the most knowledgeable.. Hell my boss has absolutely no idea on different specs or upcoming phones. But he's not really supposed to. Do you know how many new phones come through every couple weeks? The ATT rep will hand him a spec sheet with highlights and thats it. He certainly wont do any outside research. Its the sales people that should be the ones trained on phones. So for their incompetence I apologize.
As for the other stuff, our pre-ordering system blows. Know that. But, it can also reap some pretty good benefits if you are a little patient with it. The price matching thing does work on pre-orders as I have done it for a couple customers with the galaxy nexus.
So knowing what you do now, would you still get your phone from best buy? Just curious. As one of the top 50 performing stores in the company this past quarter, I like to gauge outside response on peoples experience.
Oh and enjoy your note!

If it wasn't for the black tie protection program I wouldn't go back there period. I got my iPhone 4 4s and nexus S with the protection and have loved it. But this particular location has gone down hill.

Dude that sucks.. I know alot of the bbuy employees in my local one by name and get alot better service there compared to at$t/tmobile stores. You should have asked for the store manager not the bbym one.. And known the name of the one that said he would give the case to you for free.
Btw you know there was a 3x rewards coupon active for release day, should have been in your email.. Would have been almost 45 back in reward points.

This is why I opted to buy the phone through at&t. BB is not a good place to buy phones at a full price. Good for upgrading though, which is what I use them for.

Extremely fed up with Verizon

I'm just generally fed up with Verizon so much that I am in fact considering filing a BBB complaint myself against Verizon. Speaking generally here everytime I call Verizon and ask a question. I get a different response. Some of this you know because of my previous threads about a warranty claim and my upgrade promo.
heres a quick run down of how my problems started.
I see a link saying $100 off 4g phone in my verizon allowing me up upgrade early.
I try to utilize link and it doesn't work..says I have to upgrade full price. I talk to chat person. they say you have the promo but need to call CS.
I call CS they say sorry it's $100 off full retail. you should have used the promo it when you got your X2 cause it was in effect then and you could have gotten have gotten a 4g phone $100 off contract then. my response..gee thanks! I'm glad they were kind enough to tell me that when I bought the X2 because I really wanted to pay MORE for a X2 then I would have paid for a 4g device. (yes thats sarcasm)
I was irritated by this so I emailed them with my concerns.
I get a call back from a very friendly rep named Nicole. Nicole states I checked with my supervisor and you can upgrade early to a 4g phone $100 off contract price and you keep your current upgarde date. I'm like hell yes Nicole, but I need to research first so i can get one I really want. She says no problem Ill call again or you can call anytime to utilize the offer. She does call again, but I missed the call.
I want to actually verify that this is noted in my account so two days later I call and say hey I have this promo blah blah. the rep confirms with me what Nicole said. So I'm like yes..things are just peachy. He also says I can do it in store.
So fast forward a couple weeks. I go look at phones. I want a Nexus. In store salesman says hey you do have the promo but if you get it in store we have no control...it will change your upgrade date automatically..youll have to call CS.
Fast forward again. I'm fed up with my X2 because of nagging issues. It should be under warranty. Tech rep says hey I can give you a deal instead of warranty replacement...How bout getting a 4g phone with $100 off. Im like you know that sounds like a great deal but I already have a promo on my account for that. He says ok, but you should do it now and get a new 2 year contract. I say well if I do will it change my upgrade date? The tech says yes. I explain that my promo does not and he tells me that this is absolutely not true and any upgraded phone will change my upgrade date. He goes on saying human error and yada yada. I say well I had two different reps tell me the say thing. He responds with I'm sorry but thats not true. I say well I guess I'll take my replacement X2 (I asked about alternative replacements...they said only an X2)
So thats my story. Some of you may say whats your problem..They are giving you a chance to upgrade early and a $100 off. Who cares if it changes your upgrade date. Well believe me I think it's awesome Verizon is offering this deal and am no way faulting them for that. What I am fed up with is crappy Customer Service that tells you one thing one day and another thing the next. it's unacceptable. Ever since I've been a Verizon customer I've had this issue. I ask a a question get one response, ask another rep and get a different response. If your going to offer someone a deal then it should be the same no matter who you talk too.
It seems like the inconsistency of information across Verizon's departments is incredibly horrid. That is something that could've screwed you over badly had you gone through with it - what if no one informed you of what could happen to your warranty post-purchase? Would've been a nasty spot to be in.
Sorry you had to go through all of that.

Sprint has discontinued their 14-day early upgrade

Just spoke with a Sprint CSR (and her supervisor) on the phone who informed me that she could not move my June 1 upgrade date up by 14 days any more due to the policy being changed on May 17th. It's perfect (well, imperfect) timing for those of us with June 1 upgrade dates. I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do. I've preordered the phone through Best Buy but apparently won't be able to get it until June 1, assuming that Best Buy even gets the EVO LTE by then... Anybody else out there with June 1 upgrade dates that have been able to move up their eligibility date?
You can buyout whatever is left of your contract in your case it's like 20 bucks or maybe less. I forget what sprint calls it now.
I literally just got off the phone with them, mine should be changed to today within the hour. The rep I spoke to is calling me back in an hour to verify it was changed. Be nice, be persistent. I've been working on this for about 2 weeks and I've made about a dozen calls.
My upgrade was 6/1, what I heard was the policy was being changed as of 6/1 so I think you were lied to. I also told them I've been having a lot of random issues with my phone.

Yeah I had heard about that... I think it's $20 times the number of months remaining in your contract but with a minimum of $100. I'm on the phone with them now (on hold) and according to ISN if my account was notated before the 17th that I wanted an early upgrade they'll still honor it. I had called on the 10th and the 11th so we'll see what they can do. Of course this is all moot if BB doesn't get the phone before June 1!

That's not true at all and I don't think those prices are right either, friend on another forum had 4 1/2 months left he got out with 45 bucks.

Cool, good to know. I think I got an unlucky supervisor the first time I called but now that I have called back with the original date I called they might be more receptive... I'll keep y'all posted. Being nice is definitely important but sometimes difficult! Haha doing my best.

Haha I meant to hit "quote" instead of "thanks" but now you get a free thanks! I just remember reading the $100 minimum somewhere, not sure where. Now that I looked it up I think you're right.
Anyway, Telesales said they will notate the account and that when I pick up the phone from Best Buy they will honor the early upgrade since I had called about it before 5/17 originally. Apparently they can only move the upgrade up at the time of an actual sale, so I'll just have to have faith that they'll put it through at Best Buy's request.

Let us know how it goes.
I originally called CS a couple weeks ago and they told me to call 1-800-Sprint1 and they could change it or I could go into a corporate store and have it done. Called Thursday and they said I'd have to order it through tele-sales for them to change the date. Went into my local corporate Sprint store and they told me they can't do it, I'd have to do it at a 3rd party store. Went into Best Buy and they told me they can't do that, I'd have to do it through Sprint. Called Sprint again, a couple times and at this point I had totally lost my cool.
I went to Delaware this weekend to visit Dogfish Head brewery and allow myself some time to relax. I called this morning and she told me I had to order through tele-sales and that the 4G LTE was not available to either order or pre-order. Just called back this afternoon and the guy I talked to said it would be changed within the hour. I just checked and it's not updated yet so we'll see what happens.
Sometimes it is tough to stay calm and be nice but in the end it does pay off, good luck.
I think you lucked out. I called yesterday and they changed my upgrade date up. One account was 6/1/2012 the other was 12/1/2012. And my airave was 2/1/2013.
All three was pushed up a year and in return all three is now eligible.
I just talked to her calmly, stating I want upgrade phone to Evo lte but didn't want to wait til upgrade time. I told them I want to show support with all the turmoil going on and want an upgrade to show my devote and support to HTC/sprint. She puts me on hold for about a min and return with an "ok" we will change your eligibility under one condition, pay for the activation fee. I tried to get around that, but no go. Well still happy I get to move the date up

I just got a call back and they said it was done. Checked my account and it now shows my upgrade as of 5/1. I have an Airave as well, they are always listed as a full upgrade.

They have the best brewery tour! And free beer to boot! I love Dogfish Head.
I guess it just depends on who you get if they'll actually move your upgrade date up without a sale... She said she would move it up today if I ordered through Sprint but since I was ordering through Best Buy she said that they would move up the date whenever I went in to pick up my preorder. She assured me that she would notate my account and that I wouldn't have any problems, so hopefully she's right.
A bit of info thatvhas always helped me is ..call Retentions for any issues..no waiting on hold or pressing options. They just pick up the phone first ring..if anyone can gget it done for you its them ..18777754886

Good to hear, hopefully you'll be able to get it done. Now the issue is Sprint/Best Buy/Radio Shack/Wirefly. Wirefly says they'll be shipping in 2-3 weeks but it's the cheapest. I always get my phones from Radio Shack because I hate Best Buy and there's always less people in there so I can get in and out faster. The problem is I have a feeling that due to the customs issue Sprint stores might be the first to have them available. I just want it ASAP.
I called and they said they could move mine. But this was last week.

I tried a couple times to get mine bumped up from 6/1 with no success. I then talked to a rep from retentions and it took 5 minutes on the phone and within and hour my account reflected the change.

Got scared when I read this thread, so I called up sprint, talked to account services, and they told me I'm good to go with upgrading early from my 3D (that I've had since launch day). Took all of 30 seconds, and didn't hear a word about no longer doing early upgrades. Good one guys, almost had me ready to go pillage and plunder the sprint HQ. Lol

Nice. I'm curious how do you qualify for an upgrade with your 3d? Don't you have to wait 22 months? Or did you get the last of the Premiere program 1-year upgrades?

You're lucky, for me it was a major hassle and I didn't want to pre-order until it was approved and now it's too late. Just gotta wait now for the official release, get there early, and hope there are some left.

I got the 3D on launch day as well. I'm sure his was, just as mine is, the last premier yearly upgrade. I'm gonna miss my full upgrade every year.
