Sprint has discontinued their 14-day early upgrade - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Just spoke with a Sprint CSR (and her supervisor) on the phone who informed me that she could not move my June 1 upgrade date up by 14 days any more due to the policy being changed on May 17th. It's perfect (well, imperfect) timing for those of us with June 1 upgrade dates. I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do. I've preordered the phone through Best Buy but apparently won't be able to get it until June 1, assuming that Best Buy even gets the EVO LTE by then... Anybody else out there with June 1 upgrade dates that have been able to move up their eligibility date?

You can buyout whatever is left of your contract in your case it's like 20 bucks or maybe less. I forget what sprint calls it now.

I literally just got off the phone with them, mine should be changed to today within the hour. The rep I spoke to is calling me back in an hour to verify it was changed. Be nice, be persistent. I've been working on this for about 2 weeks and I've made about a dozen calls.
My upgrade was 6/1, what I heard was the policy was being changed as of 6/1 so I think you were lied to. I also told them I've been having a lot of random issues with my phone.

Yeah I had heard about that... I think it's $20 times the number of months remaining in your contract but with a minimum of $100. I'm on the phone with them now (on hold) and according to ISN if my account was notated before the 17th that I wanted an early upgrade they'll still honor it. I had called on the 10th and the 11th so we'll see what they can do. Of course this is all moot if BB doesn't get the phone before June 1!

That's not true at all and I don't think those prices are right either, friend on another forum had 4 1/2 months left he got out with 45 bucks.

Cool, good to know. I think I got an unlucky supervisor the first time I called but now that I have called back with the original date I called they might be more receptive... I'll keep y'all posted. Being nice is definitely important but sometimes difficult! Haha doing my best.

Haha I meant to hit "quote" instead of "thanks" but now you get a free thanks! I just remember reading the $100 minimum somewhere, not sure where. Now that I looked it up I think you're right.
Anyway, Telesales said they will notate the account and that when I pick up the phone from Best Buy they will honor the early upgrade since I had called about it before 5/17 originally. Apparently they can only move the upgrade up at the time of an actual sale, so I'll just have to have faith that they'll put it through at Best Buy's request.

I originally called CS a couple weeks ago and they told me to call 1-800-Sprint1 and they could change it or I could go into a corporate store and have it done. Called Thursday and they said I'd have to order it through tele-sales for them to change the date. Went into my local corporate Sprint store and they told me they can't do it, I'd have to do it at a 3rd party store. Went into Best Buy and they told me they can't do that, I'd have to do it through Sprint. Called Sprint again, a couple times and at this point I had totally lost my cool.
I went to Delaware this weekend to visit Dogfish Head brewery and allow myself some time to relax. I called this morning and she told me I had to order through tele-sales and that the 4G LTE was not available to either order or pre-order. Just called back this afternoon and the guy I talked to said it would be changed within the hour. I just checked and it's not updated yet so we'll see what happens.
Sometimes it is tough to stay calm and be nice but in the end it does pay off, good luck.

I think you lucked out. I called yesterday and they changed my upgrade date up. One account was 6/1/2012 the other was 12/1/2012. And my airave was 2/1/2013.
All three was pushed up a year and in return all three is now eligible.
I just talked to her calmly, stating I want upgrade phone to Evo lte but didn't want to wait til upgrade time. I told them I want to show support with all the turmoil going on and want an upgrade to show my devote and support to HTC/sprint. She puts me on hold for about a min and return with an "ok" we will change your eligibility under one condition, pay for the activation fee. I tried to get around that, but no go. Well still happy I get to move the date up

I just got a call back and they said it was done. Checked my account and it now shows my upgrade as of 5/1. I have an Airave as well, they are always listed as a full upgrade.

I guess it just depends on who you get if they'll actually move your upgrade date up without a sale... She said she would move it up today if I ordered through Sprint but since I was ordering through Best Buy she said that they would move up the date whenever I went in to pick up my preorder. She assured me that she would notate my account and that I wouldn't have any problems, so hopefully she's right.

A bit of info thatvhas always helped me is ..call Retentions for any issues..no waiting on hold or pressing options. They just pick up the phone first ring..if anyone can gget it done for you its them ..18777754886

Good to hear, hopefully you'll be able to get it done. Now the issue is Sprint/Best Buy/Radio Shack/Wirefly. Wirefly says they'll be shipping in 2-3 weeks but it's the cheapest. I always get my phones from Radio Shack because I hate Best Buy and there's always less people in there so I can get in and out faster. The problem is I have a feeling that due to the customs issue Sprint stores might be the first to have them available. I just want it ASAP.

I called and they said they could move mine. But this was last week.

I tried a couple times to get mine bumped up from 6/1 with no success. I then talked to a rep from retentions and it took 5 minutes on the phone and within and hour my account reflected the change.

Nice. I'm curious how do you qualify for an upgrade with your 3d? Don't you have to wait 22 months? Or did you get the last of the Premiere program 1-year upgrades?

You're lucky, for me it was a major hassle and I didn't want to pre-order until it was approved and now it's too late. Just gotta wait now for the official release, get there early, and hope there are some left.

I got the 3D on launch day as well. I'm sure his was, just as mine is, the last premier yearly upgrade. I'm gonna miss my full upgrade every year.

Vibrant on backorder

I called to get a replacement ont the 13th. They said it would take a week to get it. I called on the 18th they said it was being proccesed. I called today the 21st they said they are on backorder and have no idea when they will be available. It bothers me that they never tried to inform me of this through email or a stupid texst. Is anyones eles's vibrant on backorder? This realy sucks not getting a eta.
Called last night, same ordeal. Ordered mine a little over a week ago.

good news and bad news...
bad news is, the T-Mobile just got slump by overwhelming phone sending back for 2 majority reasons:
#1 phone hardware/software issue for another refurb phone
#2 people took advantage of the phone upgrades for New phones out in T-Mobile like G2 on 3rd failure crisis
so that is why, many phone are on back order!! bummer...
I was told by some local cellular shops, there is one major pain in the butt issue.
all the phone they are getting from back order 80% have Hardware Lock issue.
Guess T-Mobile is enforcing the HWLock to prevent data wipe and stock Custom Rom.

Was the phone they just sent you hardware locked. I ordered a replacement phone last Friday, bc my usb port had a short. Then Tuesday they informed me it was backordered.

I call and talked to tech services [not customer service] and they said they will send me out a replacement, Sad thing is they are on backorder. I called on the 13th they said one week. I called again on the 21st That's when I found out its on backorder. I am going to call ever day till my phone gets here.
I called today 10-22 It started out with cs I told them I was very unhappy paying 500 bucks for a phone that I can't use nor be told when I would get one. I told them I was ready to switch carriers. They transferred me to a account specialist. I told her the same story she said they would pay for shipping and give me one month free data. I asked her why can I order one on line and get it but cant get a replacement for my new one? She put me on hold and came back and said she turned it over to another dept and I would get a update text from them on a new phone. I told her that every day I don't get my phone drives me closer to dropping them. I was nice to them but firm about my displeasure. Will update this thread when I get more info. Sorry about this RANT

My replacement is on backorder as well. I had a MyTouch before my vibrant and needed a replacement. I checked my order status several times a day (like I do now) hoping it would tell me it was shipped. The status was always backorderd and so I called them to see what the hold up was and they just told be it was on backorder and didn't know why. No less that 30 minutes later my phone arrived in the mail. I hope this is the same scenario and that my replacement arrives sooner than later.
The moral of the story, T-Mobile reps don't know **** about what or when the replacements ship.
called again Same crap different day Talked to several ppl loyalty serv. customer serv. and a account specialist. They tried to tell me they have no phones at all. I said I could order one on line, they said they were backorderd too. I went to their site and got all the way to the final check out. It seems like it would have gone threw. So I quit. 2 weeks later and they still can't tell me when I would get one? Maybe i will get a new one instead of a refurb one. I think when think when they see my number they go oh **** he is calling again. What a nice $500. paper weight

Yeah, I got one to about an hour ago. Btw, on T-mo's website it still says that my order hasn't shipped yet and that it's still on backorder. Their order status portal is far from accurately up to date.

I would call tmo if I were you. at ups.com I got this Your package is in the UPS system and has a rescheduled delivery date of 10/29/2010. and in transit I sure hope it's not hardware locked

I'm not bothering with a T-Mo rep. The tracking # they sent in a text shows the package shipped yesterday with a delivery date of the 28th. And it probably will be hardware locked... Damn...

Absolutely fantastic customer service from Sprint!

I went into my local Sprint store today to pre-order the Evo 3D. All I had to do was give them my name, cell number, and e-mail address and I was added to the list. No deposit needed. I asked about getting the yearly upgrade promotional pricing. He said I had a $75 credit due June 1st, but they would most likely manually override it in the system. He gave me a direct number to call to try and get this taken care of.
I just got off the phone, and it was a piece of cake. There wasn't even any menus to go through, the CS rep picked up the phone on the first ring - must be a direct line. Anyway, she asked me a few security questions and then I told her what I was calling about. She said they will put me down to get the $199 promotional pricing not only for my line, but also the other line my girlfriend uses. Said it should take 24-48 hours in the system and they will call me back Wednesday to confirm it. I'm sure your account has to be in good standing to get taken care of. I was thoroughly impressed. The rep at the store told me to stop back up next week and they should know more about the release date.

Its nice you have a good local store, but all the stores around me are terrible. I called in to confirm I could pre order the 3D in the store (as some arent doing accepting preorders yet) and asked what if I needed my account info (as my father owns the account). Left on my lunch break as I work 5 days a week and wasnt going to wait a week to get my preorder in. Arrive to find ~5 customers. I take a seat and wait as all the reps are busy (3). It took me over an hour to talk to a rep and do a 5 minute preorder, which the rep wasnt even sure about how to do it, and she wanted my PIN which I was told on the phone I didnt need.
They didnt ask for my email, only phone number, name, and PIN.
Anyone know if/where you can check the status/confirmation of a preorder? As i am weary that it was done right and really dont want to find out it was done wrong or go back to the store unless its to get my evo 3d

Did you get any type of receipt or put any money down? Why not just go to Best Buy or Radio Shack. All you need is $50 to put down and you will walk out with a gift card and a receipt for your pre-order. No info needed with your Sprint account until you go pickup the phone.
I just like dealing with my local sprint store. They have always been very helpful with any issues I have had. I didn't want to put any money down if it wasn't required. I didn't get a receipt, but he said I will get an email confirmation in 24-48 hours. I didn't think it was that hard to give them my phone #, name, and gmail account. Plus this way, I am now guaranteed the promotional pricing. Not sure I could get that with Radio Shack or Best Buy.

yes i got a receipt that only mentions the $50 gift card purchase and then a separate print out of a confirmation number, but i would like to double check that as the rep (apparently) stopped half way through and realized she was preordering the htc view and not the evo3d, so if theres anyway of checking online I'd very much appreciate it. Plus she needed help a few times from another associate, so assuming this gets as popular as the original evo... I'd like to make sure my preorder is correct.

What did you tell the CS rep? Just that you're looking to upgrade to the EVO 3d, but your line isn't eligible for the full discount?
BTW, If you call that number now, and your upgrade was supposed to be in june, you have to cal back on june 1st, there system does not allow them to push the upgrade when its only a few days away from the month it was supposed to be, but on the first of the month it allows them to do it once the "silver upgrade" is available on your account, according to the person I just talked to from that number
I can confirm I was able to reset the upgrade on my partners account. So now we are looking forward to two EVO 3Ds
So if my upgrade is July something... I should probably wait until then?

I can confirm this works too. I called that number and was told that since my partial upgrade isn't till November and my full upgrade isn't till September 2012 that I could not get the upgrade. I then called the same number again and talked to another rep and explained to them that there nothing defective with my current evo and I know I not eligible for a upgrade but I simply requested a manual override of my upgrade eligibility and they did it for me !! Took about an 30 minutes but it worked. If your eligible for a partial upgrade this process take like 5 minutes tops !! Thanks to the OP.
p.s. I think the buzz word is manual override !!

I wouldn't man. July MIGHT be when the Evo 3D is released or June I don't know. But one month is easier to wait out. I think Sprint only allows for one manual override per line. I would save that override for the future.

July of next year is when im have the $150 upgrade renewal possible.
I purchased my EVO last July, sold it back to sprint (should've ebayed it) and now am having issues with my Hero. I'm going to move away from CM on my hero to see if thatll change anything.
It randomly powercycles, it won't send or receive texts sometimes, and is just a pita! Lol
With all this talk of HTC locking the bootloader and all the speculation, I may just jump ship and move away from HTC all together.

I pre ordered the Samsung Nexus S 4G from Best Buy.... bought the $50 gift card and everything... Never got the call when they came in.
Got one of our lines bumped up to the full upgrade eligibility, and was told to try calling back in July to see about getting another one done.
The gentleman I talked to said it is a "program they are currently running, and he is unsure when they will stop this promotion."

What? I preordered the EVO 3D @ BestBuy and they said to come in the day it's released, NOTHING else. What is this appointment business I keep reading on about? Should I call them and schedule an activation? (lol)
Did they take your number down? They are supposed to call you a day or two before release to schedule the pick up appt. You should be okay but follow up with them on Thursday if you haven't heard anything by then

I'm hoping my Best Buy didn't have many preorders before me. I just barely went in a few days ago but I only have til the 30th to swap out this Nexus. I can't stand the crappy radio on this thing.
Called my Best Buy where I reserved today. The girl stated that she would call on Wednesday to setup the appointment. I was first on the list btw.

Probably no preorders but I still would have done it anyways. You for sure aren't guarenteed one now. Unless they have a bunch of preorders and not enough phones lol.

Yea I asked the guy and he's like don't even worry about it. He even asked the other guy working with him and he is the one who said its not even worth it. Hopefully I still get one. I'm gonna get there at like 9:50 since they open at 10 here. I assume I will get one. If not that'll be upsetting. I'm excited. Been using my Hero for like a year now and am so tired of it
F*CK best buy. I called them today and they said they haven't called anybody yet to make appointments and I'm not guaranteed to get one even tho I pre ordered when they first started the secret pre order. They said they have to see how many they get so I asked what number am I and he said he doesn't know and can't tell me. Assholes lol. I'm gonna keep calling and show up Friday and if I don't get one I'm gonna kick there table over. Hopefully somebodies there with a evo3d and could record me going to jail in 3d.

I called BB to see if I had missed their call. They said they haven't received the shipment yet. They took my appt time and said they were getting 30 phones and when I signed up I was # 13 on the list, two weeks ago
The only call I got from them was last night the guy called and asked if I wanted an invisible shield screen protector preinstalled.
I declined and asked if they would call to set up and appointment and he said no. They were opening at 8am on Friday and just to come in anytime on the 24th and pick mine up. He said they were in the process of putting the preordered ones aside and were going to install the screen protectors for people who wanted them(for an extra charge) over the next couple days so they would have time to cure.
BestBuy called me yesterday and I scheduled my appointment today for friday @ noon. (was the earliest I could do it).

Given the fact that my dad and brother pay 50% income tax and an additional 25% tax on everything they buy, I see nothing wrong loaning money _WITH INTEREST_ from the Swedish government to pay for my expenses. Somethings got to give after paying so much tax.

They called me this afternoon around 1. Set up my appointment right when they opened since I'm preorder #1.

I knew I was going to get hosed trying to get my EVO 3D...

I was one of the many who lost their existing full upgrade when the Premier rules changed (had full upgrade in Feb, lost it in April). I'm still Premier Silver. Two separate chat sessions were unproductive in trying to get my upgrade eligibility "fully" changed so that it showed on the website, they just told me to call telesales when the phone is available and they'll fix it for you and order the phone. I called this morning at 9:15 EST to order the phone, and after a huge runaround she said that she was working with the Premier department and that as soon as she was able to resolve the issue and order the phone she would call me back. Wasn't expecting anything, but was hopeful. So 3pm rolls around and I just can't take it anymore, and I try again. The guy I talk to puts me on the infamous "no more than 2 minutes" hold five times for a total of 20 minutes on hold, and finally comes back with a final answer of "I advise you to wait until the 24th and go to a store or use the online link and use your $75 upgrade". Couldn't get anywhere with him even though I was very polite but firm. Kept explaining the Premier can buy it on the 21st, and he just kept repeating his "advice". Very, very frustrating. I am starting vacation on Friday and really wanted to get the phone bought and set up before I left! I wouldn't be whining if I didn't know that other people were able to get their dates reset easily... I could have just ordered the durn phone this morning if they just would have done it right. It seems the Premier preorders are backordered, so I lost that opportunity, and based on what happened today who says they will be able to give me the full upgrade as I was promised on Friday, if I can even get one?
Any Sprint insiders have advice or a hookup for me?
I'm actually mad that he didn't ask me at the end of the call if he was able to resolve all my concerns today...
Argh.
Do the same thing. If you get the same answer again, ask for the retention deparment... See how quickly things roll from there.

Yeah I was in the same boat as you man REALLY disappointed last night after all I had gone through even yesterday to get it taken care of. once again told yesterday that it would be resolved. Still shows $75. Whatever Friday is almost here. Started getting worried that I didn't even get a call from my sprint store, but remembered they will not start calling until Wed evening. So god help them if I don't get a call tomorrow.

I had the same issue as well but I got mine resolved by calling up sprint and just asking for it they put me on the line with a supervisory he checked with the premium department and gave me my upgrades so I never had any issues getting my phone.

Yeah i knew I was going to get screwed over with the "changing the upgrade" issue on my premiere account, so I actually started resolving my issue 3 weeks ago so I would be ready for launch. But for me they kept telling me that I have that override note on my account but I wanted it to show on the Best buy computers and on my account that I had the actual upgrade option. So I had to be annoying and threatened to cancel (this was done through email) and lo and behold I got a personal call from someone in the retention department assuring me they were going to change my upgrade status and got rid of that override note. And it worked.. it now says I can upgrade now on my account. So you really need to threaten to cancel to get the eligibility on your account and not that override note.
But since release date is a couple days away make sure to actually call and request a superior and mention to cancel, but obviously don't be rude, it's not the customer's reps fault
Chat does NOTHING, you have to call to get good service. (for most part).
My sister-in-law had this same problem. I called them because she had a $150 upgrade back in November of 2010, and all of a sudden it came up on her account page a week ago that she only had $75 upgrade.
I called and told them to cancel the account, and I wasn't dealing with their thieving company anymore, and I was going to get an iPhone tomorrow (which I wasn't, but I figured it would work).
Within about 2 minutes I had $150 upgrade (on both lines, and the second one wasn't due for a $75 upgrade until December 2011), and a $110 credit on my bill.

I'm going to disagree, i get 100x farther on chat than phone.
No xfering, no disconnects, practically no hold time.
no attitudes in text, and the best part is they email you the chat long so you can hold them the F to what they say haha.
I just called the linked number and bam...all taking care of, just waiting on confirmation so i can get it odered

Yeah they switched that premier status crap on me during the middle of my 1 yr upgrade...I have been with them almost 10 years in october then i would of been able to upgrade to 150 On october 1st for being a gold premier customer...Well right after my year warranty i Accidently dropped my phone on the concrete at my pool last weekend and spider webbed my screen.. Made the call to sprint cause i almost made a claim and changed my mind to get the screen fixed at a 3rd party store..I really didnt want to pay the 100 bucks for a new standard evo.Well i got a phone call from a sprint representative saying that sprint upped my upgrade status to a gold premier customer without me even *****ing to get it and said i could get the phone for 199 with a 2 yr contract and trade in my old evo for 150 on my phone.So now im getting the evo 3d for 50 bucks.
I just became eligible for my 75 discount. I am a premier silver customer. I called sprint and used my Jedi mind tricks and managed to get not only upgrade for 150 discount but also a 200 dollar instant rebate. So I made my order earlier today for only 219.59 after tax. Call up Sprint at 877-775-4886 and ask for your upgrade eligibility to be reset. I had to call them today to get my full 2 year eligibility back. It was easy as pie, just be nice to them when you ask for the reset.

All I did was email them through the website. Explained to them that if I wasn't going to get the full upgrade then I was going to be closing my accounts and going to one of the others. They sent me an email in return stating that they would reinstate my full upgrade through the telesales. I then emailed them back saying that I had already had one on preorder and would the full upgrade be marked on my account. I immediately got an email stating that this would be the case. I have printed off the copies and when I goto RS on friday to upgrade if I have any problems I have proof of my conversation. Try going that route. Got all my answers and feedback within 16hrs. Good luck.

i am fuming right now. spoke with store manager on monday and got my preorder as a silver premier member expecting it the next day. they said i wouldnt get it until today.
today, coworker goes in to pick it up and they wont let us pick it up until tomorrow! they say that the phone cant be activated until the actual launch date, but thats such BS. people have been activating and using their EVO3D for a couple days now! i spoke to one of the reps saying that premier customers get it 3 days ahead and its even on their website!
freakin raging and just wanted to vent since ive been looking forward to this phone all year.

because we know the store manager and he usually hooks it up. he was able to charge it to our account so no payment was needed up front.

Ok, since several have already so eloquently described how you are completely mistaken and have no reason to be upset, let me explain.
Tuesday morning at midnight sprint.com started allowing orders on the web site for the phone, the people that have them now are those who ordered online after that time. The phone doesn't officially go on sale until 6/24. A pre-order simply guarantees that there will be one waiting there for you once the phone goes on sale to the general public. Most retailers are opening an hour early to fulfill pre-orders and let those individuals get their phones and accessories before the general sale. Therefore, unless you ordered from sprint.com, you have to wait till the 24th to get the phone. I pre-ordered on 5/25 and I still have to wait till tomorrow to get my phone.

If you purchase from a Sprint store or sprint.com you always have the option to charge to your account as long as you have sufficient room under your spending limit. If you ever do an insurance claim for a phone you have the same option, you can either pay Asurion the $100 or have it charged to your Sprint bill.

You guys sure are mean today because I'm sure many of you are familiar with the idea of getting the new toy on release date. It's not like I have a number in line or anything, there is a box with my name on it in the store and I can't even get it is why I am upset.

He probably doesn't want to risk losing his job for selling it early. Sprint themselves stated Premier members could order early on the website and most of the people who have it early did that. If I was a Sprint store manager and my best friend wanted it the day before and I know there was more than a 10% chance I'd lose my job over it I'd tell him to wait till the next day and I'd just hold his for him.

I don't think people are being mean but it's kinda obnoxious that you want it a day earlier because your name is on one, so are many other people and they have to wait till tomorrow. I ordered from amazon and have to wait till Tuesday. That's the price I pay for paying 470 for it.
I was not trying to come off as obnoxious, but I was upset that I couldn't pick it up because it can't be activated until tomorrow which is a total lie.
I'll just drink some cognac in the meantime to pass the time =)

How is it a lie? The employees are under very strict orders not to activate them before hand. If they do they risk punishment, or termination. To me that says I can't activate a phone for you ahead of time.

It's not a lie. Sprint employees are not allowed to activate Evo 3Ds until the 24th regardless of your premier status. People who have the phone now are the ones that bought from the premier store on Tuesday.
I'm guessing this also means that if you have a defective Evo 3D, then you are SOL? Or can a manager make an exception?
There's a lot of difference between store getting a delivery of phones, and store allowing to sell a phone.
If you are in such rush to get it NOW NOW NOW, why didn't you order it online? I had mine in my hands yesterday.
