Khomo Deluxe Synthetic Leather Case + Caseen Glareshatter Anti-Glare film - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

WARNING: After some time the case has rubbed off on NT's trim and actually ruined its looks. DO NOT BUY THIS CASE. (I didn't edit my first impressions though)
I'm taking a bit for a risk that it will all fit nicely (since these are for nook color, which is allegedly same size as nook tablet). But I'm going out of country next Monday, and I wanted to it it before I leave. Oh, and "designer" cases in B&N stores are terribly overpriced.
So, here's what I got:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004UGLBV2/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RDFXAI/ref=oh_o00_s00_i01_details
The case (Khomo Deluxe Synthetic Leather Case) has a nice stand that allows it to be placed both vertically (reading) and horizontally (watching videos). That's a must-have feature for a stand, IMO.
The screen protector is very much needed for NK, and not only to protect the glass - without the protector fingers don't glide so easily on NK screen.
So, I picked up "caseen GLARESHATTER Anti-Glare Screen Protector". Has good reviews, hopefully will fit perfectly.
I got a 2day shipping, they will be here on Thursday, Nov 17. I'll put em on and post pics here.
EDIT:
Ok, I received them. Here are my thoughts on both of them (mind you, this is after 1 hr of use, not long-term):
The case:
Looks - very presentable
Outside - leathery, pleasant to the touch
Inside - velvety, looks nice
Build - feels solid enough, but does bend easily and stays bent (may be a good thing, may be a bad thing)
Cut - perfect snug and cut to size
Fit - stays in well, feels like nook and case are one piece
Protection - corners are decenly covered, althought I wish they didn't make cut-outs for them
Jacks/buttons - Easy access to headphone jack and buttons
Mic - NO access to mic. Will need to make a hole
Stand - when standing verically or horizontally, it's a little flimsy, not as secure as I wanted it to be
The protection film:
Glare - does cut out the glare significantly
Matte - definitelly made the image "grainy" as any matte film does. Not sure if it's grainy enough for me to take it off and buy a 100% transparent one.
Installation - hardest screen I ever applied. No matter what I did, perfect application is impossible. I did it in a humid shower, clean hands, clean screen - still not as good as I want.
Touch - very pleasant to the touch, finger glides very easily.
Touch Sensitivity - perfect, didn't notice any problems at all.
Overall:
I like the case. I think for the price it does everything you want it to do, and does it relatively well.
I'm not sure if I like the film. It's matte, it cuts the glare, finger glides much easier now... but at the same time I have micro-bubbles at the corners that I can't get rid of, and image is grainy now. Wouldn't notice it when watching video, but when reading - definitely noticeable.

When I had my Nook Color, I bought this one:

It can do BOTH vertical and horizontal stand, as shown below:

The only screen protector I would ever buy is the invisibleSHIELD. They don't make one for the NT but they do for the NC. My question is, is the screen the exact same size on both?

These carbon fiber covers look awesome.

I've used Zagg ISes on my digicam LCD screens for years. They are as good as it gets... if you want protection. But they may not be the best for something like the NT. The orange peel finish on the Zagg IMO will be a detriment to the screen viewing quality, which is one of the huge selling points of the Tablet.
I bought the B&N anti-glare screen, and even that has an effect on the viewing quality. Much as finger prints will show up, I think the best thing for the NT may be one of the crystal clear type screens.

Crystal-clear are the best, but they show fingerprints a lot and have lots of glare, unfrotunatelly.
In essence, you get to pick between the "grainy matte" effect on matte film or tons of glare from any bright light on the crystal clear film.
If you use the device in mostly dark places, I'd go with Crystal Clear stuff.
If you use it during the day, outside, or with bright lights around.. go with matte.

Good quality screen protector?

Got one from the only thread I could find on screen protectors here on XDA. It was really bad. It did not fit perfectly no matter how many times I tried to do it. No matter how you place it one side will be a little too long (just a tad) so you have to actually manually cut the screen protector making it less attractive and not giving it as rounded edges as one out of a box.
Has anyone gotten a good screen protector for their Transformer yet?
I get all my screen protectors and skinz from Phantom Skinz. The one for the TF is very good and fits just right. Once you place it on there and the bubbles have dissipated there is still a clear protective cap sheet that you pull off. Once you do that you can't even tell that it's there. The glass of the TF is a major fingerprint magnet and with this skin they wipe right off. Also there isn't any orange peel effect with the Phantom Skinz. You also might consider the Chromatics to give it a sleek look to it. I bought the carbon fiber white and it looks siiik.
I have an SGP and it is awesome.
get XOskins. wait a few days to getthe bubbles out.

its a water based application but IMO, better than phantomskins, zaggs, invisible shield
its ALOT thinner @ 2mm, just becareful applying, do not stretch the rubber, and slowly Squeeze all the soapy water out with a light rag. i had mine placed really well, except i got a little piece of hair stuck under the screen. Oh well, it can never ever be perfect
This is the one I ordered: http://amzn.to/ormCyH
The one thing I hated about the TF101 is how badly it attracts smudges and how much glare it has. ^ That thing did the trick, plus it makes it easier to glide my finger somehow.

I bought an SGP Ultra Fine (matte) and the cut is as great as it is on the other devices i've bought it for (evo and epic)
Might be a little bit on the pricey side compared to some of the other offerings but i much prefer hard dry apply screen protectors over the soft wet apply ones, or even soft dry apply ones
I read on the forums sometimes ago that there was some sort of chemical/cleaner that you could apply on the transformer's screen and it would greatly reduce fingerprints (but the screen would still be glossy). Anyone recall what I'm talking about?
[Edit]
Found the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121184
It's called RainX
I use the official one from Asus and it's excellent but a bit pricy!

I got the Zagg very happy. 40 buck installed with warranty if any thing happens they replace it.

I have been using the Clear Freak screen protector and I am very happy with it. It is the anti reflective cover.
Here are some shots of the SGP Ultra Fine (matte) installed on my TF. The fitment is just about perfect with a tiny gap on the right side as i've installed it, could have made it even less noticeable by moving it towards the right a bit more, as it is right now its sitting right up against the left edge.
I tried the skinomi protector but as i am a flicker the grippy surface for a lot of the soft type screen protectors left a lot of streaks from my fingers in addition to making it hard to flick. The texture on this is extremely fine making the surface very smooth. The last shot was my best attempt at illustrating the slight loss of clarity you get with this and any kind of matte screen protector. It is noticeable but over time i got used to it.

Where did you get it installed at?
Hi, I've had good success with the great shield anti-glare screen protector. For $13 (with shipping) you get 3 of them.
The matte finish is very fine, and it doesn't distort your colours as much as others that I've used. I had an official Nook Color for my Nook Color (when I had it), and the quality was comparable.
The only issue is that the measurements for the height of this protector are precisely the same as the screen, which makes it impossible to align correctly. If it's not aligned correctly, you'll get bubbles on the edges, or some lift off. I have only one spot, which is where the camera is, however, I have a RooCase that covers it up, so I can't see it flaw.
Other than that, it's a great price and it's very good.

I got my TF from somebody used and they had put a Zagg on it. The receipt was still in the box - $30. And he totally screwed it up. Several bubbles (a couple of large ones) and terrible orange peel. I really can't stand the Zagg protectors. Not only do you risk water damage (very small risk if you have common sense, I know - but not all Best Buy installers really have that much care for your device) but they are fairly "sticky" because of the rubbery finish on them. I got a cheap protector for my Evo on Ebay over a year ago and it's still perfect, that's what I'll be shopping for now for my TF.
IMHO, the only use of a protector on Gorilla Glass is for smudge/fingerprint resistance. The high-end protector market is raking in a lot of unnecessary money. Totally just my opinion, of course.
I just received and installed my SGP UltraFine anti-glare protetor on my Transformer... Very nice. Mild pixelation effection on white screens, but the glare and fingerprints are reduced greatly. Even when the screen does get some marks on it, wiping with a dry cloth cleans it up very easily.
Plus, it allows your finger to slide across the screen better than the naked glass does. Big improvement!
FYI - I originally bought (3) $5.99 anti-glare protectors on Ebay and they were actually too big - the edges wouldn't stick properly. It was a total waste of time and money. The SGP went on perfectly the first time. It was easy to work out any bubbles.... Great product. Granted, not cheap at $25 each, but well worth it in saved frustration with the cheap ones!

Phone: iPhone 4 4.3.3 jailbroken
Tablet: Asus eee pad transformer ROM: Prime 1.7
Interesting, I actually think it improves overall picture quaity (with the reduced glare). The only time I notice it is when I'm on a screen with a white background -- even then, it's not too bad and you get used to it pretty quick.

SGP Linear Color Cases

I've seen quite a few reviews / post on the SGP NeoHybrid series cases but nothing on the Linear Color series, thus I figured I'd post some quick photos and share my comments.
After several reviews on how the NeoHybrid series sags after while I decided to stay away from that model and try the Linear Color series. I found out the frame is of the same material as the NeoHybrid, just the back is different / hard plastic. I wanted a two-tone look, thus ended up ordering 2 cases, one in Silver and one in Black. First let me say I absolutely LOVE these cases. I think the look is absolutely gorgeous and the fit is spot on. I read reviews about the back being loose on the international version of the SG2 but this is not the case with our model. There is absolutely no movement of the back case. The cases are also a little different between the Black and Silver. The Black has a high gloss while the Silver has a bit of a flat texture to it. This works well with the combo of the cases as you don't have a full slippery phone with the all black and you have nice break in the texture with introducing the gloss black to the silver case. Overall I would highly recommend this case. The picture I have do not do the cases justice. Additionally these cases include the Ultra Crystal screen protector which is installed in the pictures.

Thank you for the review. Can you confirm if the case covers the top mic? Also, how well does the side piece fit the phone? Is a youtube review it looked like the side piece was bowing out a bit so every time the buttons were pressed, the case would clearly flex.
Wow those cases look sweet. Thanks for the info.

The case does indeed cover the top mic, however I believe it can easily be fixed by some of the methods described in this forum (hot nail, small drill, etc). I plan to give it a shot on mine this weekend. Will try to post some update pictures with a better camera when I do. As far as the case, there is absolutely no bowing / flexing taking place. If it's the same youtube video I saw, they mentioned they had attempted to put the case on with one of those skins on and that make the case bulge a bit as they forced it on. The two I have fit like a glove and again have no movement of the back plate as described for the international version.
Case
I like the pics, and I am in the market for a case. I am definitely going to check these out.
I got my Linear case today and I must say I like it alot! I go Soul Black which has a glossy finish to it which I prefer. Because of this glossiness, the case can be slippery though but i dont mind. The case has a nice lip on front side so laying the phone face down is no problem. The fit is well done too. With a 3 piece case, I was worried how snug it would fit together. Rest assured, everything feels nice and snug. I also verified my phone, wifi, and gps signals are not negatively impacted by this case , unlike my CaseMate Barely There Aluminum which I also like the look of but could not deal with the greatly degraded gps signal.
My only complaint, and this definitely more of a preference, I wish the lip on the front side was a not so high. Swiping from edge to edge, my finger hits the edge. Its not a big deal though.
Overall, I would recommend this case!
I would get one, but I'm thinking about taking my SGS II back next week for the LG Nitro HD when it comes out. It's nice to know there are some good, reasonably priced cases for this phone, though.

Hmm...I like my Neo Hybrid case but it's a pain whenever I want to remove it to access the microsd card or when I had to peel off an old screen protector and place a new one one. Been thinking about this case and was wondering if you could post or PM me pics? (Probably gonna go with soul black as well since I don't want to buy a white & black to keep my stormtrooper look -- unless someone's willing to buy the black shell with white backing?)
Thanks!

Alright I will post some pics later. I will say that removing this case is pretty easy however, I dont think I would advise doing it too many times. There are little clips that attaches the bottom part to the frame. I imagine these clips could wear over time if the case is removed too many times.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't plan on removing the case too often but I'd also like it NOT to be such a PITA when I want to take it off. It's really the only negative thing I ahve to say about the Neo Hybrid case. I wish they offered a white shell w/black backing instead of having to buy 2 different color cases though since they offer the white shell with pink, turquoise, etc. <-- NO black backing, ReaLLY?

I believe it's the same case - the only difference is that you'll get the correct Steinheil screen protector without the home button cutout that comes with the i9100 (aka international) version. The case itself fits either although since the i9100 is a bit slimmer, the back supposedly wiggles whereas it should fit flush on the i777.
Ugh...so I went ahead decided to get the Infinity White Linear case and got it today...
Sux, it doesn't fit right. The bottom part won't clip into the rest; only one side clips in properly as if the width is not right. I've emailed SGP's customer service so they can RMA and get me a new case (I'm going to be pissed though if they try to charge me for shipping & handling).
I'm really surprised that it doesn't fit. I hope I just got one from a bad batch.
I sent an SGP neohybrid case back on the 14th of november and still waiting on my refund. had to pay for the shipping back.

If it was defective, then you shouldn't have to pay to ship it back.
I'll just have to wait and see...don't know what case to get if they don't RMA and send me a Linear case to fit...(thought about the Taurus but don't want the metal case to interfere with GPS).

Curved glass and screen protectors...

So tomorrow i'm getting my Lumia, and i was wondering if it was possible to apply a genric screen protector on it while i wait for the specific one i ordered. Do they actually stick on this particular curved glass screen? What should i use for the moment? I don't wanna end with this bad boy scratched in just a couple days...
Even since my Blackberry days, I have always used screen protectors. This phone represents a big departure for me from that..
I have a belt carrying case or I'll carry the phone in a sort or jacket pocket after making sure nothing else is there.
Carrying in pants pocket is out of the question..
To me the glass and the coating are part of the design of the phone and in this case the shape and texture of the naked screen is what really makes this phone stand head and shoulders above iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or any other higher end peers.
In my opinion, adding any protector in addition to
the silicone case Nokia provides would really take that advantage away and dumb the phone down..
Yeah i feel that too, but you know i'm an offroad rider and the place i live also has some quite sandy ground...i've always managed to scratch every surface i was carrying with me, even the sapphire cristal of my good old Sector watch, so i'll be always too scared to carry a phone naked, especially if it's so damn beautiful...i'm a dangerous man i guess
I bought a Nillkin screen protector and even though it works really well, the cutting is only till the border of the actual screen. It does not go till the edge where the polycarbonate body begins.
So conclusion is that it sucks. I will be interested in any other screen protector anybody has tried which can reach till all the four edges of the screen.

Use those flexible protectors like Invisishield/BestSkinsEver etc. You can stretch it while applying.
Is a screen protector needed? This phone is fitted with gorrilla glass...
i have to admit my screen gets immensely greasy - i don't think it has any kind of anti smudge coating on it. at least mine didn't - i haven't seen anybody else's one.
Every screen irrespective of it being a Gorilla or Chimpanzee needs a protector. If you have sensitive eyes you can make out minute microscopic scratches that form in an arranged fashion after 2months of use. I hate it.
I am still looking to see if there is any protector out there that can fit edge to edge. Shucks with all the technology out there people cant make a thin plastic sheet that fits a curved screen ??
Skinomi's protections cover the whole screen. I purchased one, and quite happy about it. Fits perfectly egde to edge. It's not a rigid plastic protection like the cheap chinese ones, it is flexible and bends naturally on the curve.
You can find it on Skinomi's website, thought I think it is cheaper on amazon (like $6 or $7).
Don't worry about the picture you may find (which is one of an N9 screen protection) there is only one hole for the sensor on the actual protection.
Happy to answser any questions...

Hey thanks for that tip. Is it possible even with the any camera you have to take a small pic of your phone with that protector and post it here. That will be the decisive pic for this topic.
Best shot I could get. It is almost invisible anyway.

About the installation, the protection comes with a spray. It feels a little weird to spray your phone with this solution but I found the application actually easier than with the usual "dry" protections.
Note that it will probably be scary ugly after the installation (microbubbles, haze...) but it gets better after a few hours (12 to 20 in my case) and perfect after a few days.
Honestly i wouldn't go generic, you get what you payed for. Trust me i've learned the hard way haha

Fantastic. It is truly invisible and sits neatly edge to edge. I could only make it out from the hole given for the sensor. Good job and thanks a lot. I am ordering one now from eBay.

Thanks Buddy for the screenshot, just ordered one from the U.S., the UK seems to have some cacky ones, currently I am using this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360428462851
Not a full screen protector either and I paid more...-_-
I don't like screen protectors. Never use them.
Besides this phone has gorilla glass. I have not even managed to scratch my other previous phones without gorilla glass after months of use. I rather take the risk of getting a little scratch rather than take away the nice touch feel of the screen.

Then you must not have exposed it to sand. I have managed to scratch almost all the screens I have had on cell phones without a screen protector even if they were made out of gorilla glass. Sand is the enemy to every screen. Metal, like keys or knives, are softer that the glass but sand (or some particles of sand) are not.
I just bought some cheap chinese screen protector (dry application) and it looked horrible. Had it on for 5 minutes and then ripped it off. Have to find a good soft wet application protector now, hopefully before I manage to scratch that thing of beauty.
I've heard good reviews of the Skinomi ones, so I may go for one of those. Does anybody know if the full body (transparent) version has something to cover the super-scratch-prone chrome around the camera? If you know about any screen protector with that feature please let me know, otherwise I'll order the screen only version and use some (custom?) workaround for the chrome thing...
Thinking about getting this:

Anyone tried that one?

I did order a couple for my Omnia a few weeks ago, but unluckily they came faulty, with pretty irregular cut borders and a nasty white drop of some kind of glue in the middle. They were totally unusable. I wanted to send them back for a replacement, but a couple days later I've lost my Omnia at a concert...oh well

[Tempered Glass -9H] High Quality Screen Protector

Hi Guys,
Just want to share this out to you guys.
I took the risk and order it (Asus Padfone S- I'm guessing this is what it's known as outside of usa??)

Took about 6-10days, but it arrived yesterday and perfect snug fit.
Better than ordinary screen protector quality. I.e. Zagg/ Spigen quality.
It is VERY nice and clear.
Cheers

nah, bro, see one of the options listed as, "Asus Padfone S"... that's the one I picked... :good: (not zenphone)...
It's a little harder to see because it's not listed on the "title" but it's available inside after you've clicked it.
Tempered glass screen protectors are night and day compared to the normal (film) ones... hence I shared my findings.. cause I know some of you out there appreciates high quality screens

Hi, after you use the screen protector, do you have any issues with slotting the phone into the station? i.e. any difficulty in the station sensing the phone? According to Asus, they do not recommend a screen protector due to this, but I am kind of uncomfortable with my screen being unprotected.

I got the screen in today, took awhile longer to arrive than I had hoped.
After getting it on the phone does still fit inside the tablet dock, but it is noticeably harder to pull out of the dock. Whatever wiggle room there was before is pretty much gone now. On the one hand this could be a good thing, since the phone will be more stable if you walk around with it in the tablet dock - but on the other hand pulling it out of the dock takes 15 seconds longer than it did before and if you're trying to "grab 'n go" that could be frustrating.
Overall, I'm happy with Nillkin's tempered glass screen protector. Very similar to Zagg's product, which isn't available for the Asus Padfone X/S. Where this product is slightly better than Zagg is that it included several tempered glass circles - I wasn't sure what it was for since there are no circular home buttons on the device. Then I realized it was for the camera on the back! I chose not to put the protector on the camera, but I think it's a nice-to-have option if you're into that.
One thing to note, the installation kit has several instructions which are hard to understand. Basically:
Use wet wipe #1 to clean the screen
Use dry wipe #2 to dry off the screen
Use blue static cling to pull any remaining fibers or dust particles off screen
Apply screen
Use cloth to clean screen off
I found that use of the blue static cling put more dirt and fibers on the screen than pulled off - ended up doing steps 1 and 2 over.

Hi,
thanks for the update!
While waiting for someone to reply, I also purchased the screen protectors. They were not Nilkin brand, some other China brand. But they fit and work well. It is quite thin and there is no problem slotting in or out of the dock. The dock also seem to respond the same as before I applied the screen protector on the phone.
Some brands come with a sticker for Step 3. If not provided, I usually use normal scotch tape to stick the dust out.

After a couple of days with it, there is no more trouble sliding the phone in and out of the tablet station. I think that immediately after applying the Nilkin tempered glass screen protector, the screen protector has not fully bonded with the screen. Wait 24 hours before sliding the phone into the tablet station after applying the Nilkin 9H tempered glass screen protector.

Hi, can you take a photo of your device with the screen protector on it? I viewed the item on ebay, but there isn't a "hole" on the screen protector for the sensor (top left corner). If it fits perfectly it should have this "hole", and if it does, I'm getting this item asap. Hope you can help or if you have any comments regarding my enquiry. Thanks!
Cheers!!!

To which sensor are you referring? The ambient light sensor is to the right of the earphone speaker on both the Padfone X and Padfone S - right where the hole is punched in the tempered glass.
The Padfone 2 and Padfone Infinity models have it on the left - but this is not a screen protector for either the Padfone 2 or the Padfone Infinity. This is only for Padfone X and Padfone S.
I bought one of these tempered glass screen protectors and it lasted about a week and a half before it cracked on my bottom left corner. I've since replaced it with a Nilkin tempered glass screen protector which seems to fit better.

Best S8 screen protector

I wanted to create a thread to collect everyone's findings and opinions on what the best screen protector for the S8 is.
From what I have found there are:
- TPU dry application
- TPU wet application
- tempered glass glue only at sides
Post what you think the best protector is for feel, sensitivity and coverage. Also how compatable with cases and ease of application.
So far I've tried the amFilm from techmatte. Glue is viable around the sides and the touch sensitivity is reduced after insalll.
Master List - Tempered Glass
amFilm By Techmatte
Tempered glass, glue round the outside and top of the protector only. dot matrix on the screen for better sensitivity.
Glass feels nice but leaves loads of fingerprints and it is really reflective to light. Reduced sensitivity especially at the top. Works well with cases as its not quite full coverage.
Master List - TPU Films
yootech
Wet apply. Went on easy, works well with case no lifting. Feels nice.
Techgear ghostshield
Dry install. Kinda hard install as top part has separate protective film to the rest so it's hard to remove tbe main bit without getting dust under the protector. Sticks to the sides well. Clarity is bad, makes the phone look greasy /oily. Touch sensitivity is unaffected.
I bought these and it went on really easy, no bubbles and doesn't lift around the edge like a previous protector I used did when I put my Spigen Thin case on, feels ok to use too
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071R5P7QN/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item
EDIT - This is the previous protector I used, I found it reasonable to apply but lifted around the edges when putting my case on

Forget yootech, it works well the first 1-2 days but then you have to repress on the borders every day because the TPU cover lift it, and now after 10 days some parts are not gluing anymore specially the bottom corners.
Feeling is plasticky and a bit sticky, not as good as ''dry'' films

Actually really like the feel. Doesn't feel too rubbery. It's not glass but it's quite smooth as long as you don't dig your nails in. I forget it's there a lot. Took me a while to apply and get it right but not had any edge lifting. I am using a case so that may help.

I can whole heartedly recommend these ones:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XY7K875/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They are the film variety, but PET film, so no rubbery feel. These also benefit from being slightly curved at the edges (much like the TGSP's) so fit perfectly, with no lift. Have been using mine for 3 weeks now and its still firmly stuck on all edges, NO LIFTING!! And best of all, they work with cases too. Currently using it with a slim case, but it fits my Spiegen Neo Hybrid with no problems. And did I mention you get 3 in a pack. *drops the mic....walks off stage*
All jokes aside, these are a really good solution for screen protection with very few drawbacks.
P.S I do not work for this company nor is this recommendation being endorsed. Just passing on some invaluable knowledge to hopefully prevent someone else from buying almost every single variety of screen protector available.....not that I did that.....much.
honestly this screen protector thing is so long winded, and only for this phone as for all the others its been easy
there should be a section for uk screen protectors as we cant buy certain ones like the whitestonez version
finally got hold of this phone and cant decide what protector to get, has to be a good one as the screen is what it all is about
