[15/12][NEW DUAL BOOT PROCEDURE][Secondary OS][Dual Boot AOSP and Sammy] - Galaxy S II Android Development

Hey guys!!
I'm here to introduce you the first Dual ROM for this device!!
Haven't you ever wanted to have the speed and awesomeness of AOSP ROM but without missing the special features of Stocks ROM (Tv OUT and so on.)?!?
This prebuild flashable zips I made allows you to install and boot into 2 different OSes according to the way you start the phone.
I wanted to start telling you that nothing would have been possible without the inventor of the special kernel inside the ROMs HellcatDroid and this is the kernel's thread if you need more info about it!
How this works?
There's a special kernel inside the ROM which is the same both for Sammy and for AOSP ROM which boot into a os (primary) just booting up the phone as we normally do. The secondary OS boots when you press the Recovery Combo. The recovery starts if you power off the phone and attach the charger.
here's a video explaining how it works :
VIDEO
Downloads and new procedure
I completely changed the procedure and the way you should dualboot...so this is the NEW procedure :
1)Go to recovery, make a nandroid backup and then wipe all your data (strongly suggested)
2)Install the ROM you want for PRIMARY OS (you can choose the one you mostly like here on xda!)
3)Then and only then choose between these beautiful ROMs for your SECONDARY OS :
CheckROM v4
MIUI 9.12
CM7
4)Enjoy!
IF YOU WANT TO RESTORE EVERYTHING BACK :
Install via CWM this package : RESTORE OS
This will delete your secondary OS permanently and leave just your primary with Siyah kernel
Changelog
-Brand NEW procedure!
-Restore Primary OS option
-CheckROM v4
OLD Downloads
Here's the most sweet part...
each ROM has a primary OS (more space and boots as you normally do) and a secondary OS (less space and boots with recovery combo)...
It depends on your preferences...however here it is :
http://www.multiupload.com/Y357LP81T9 > Clean Sammy (primary) MIUI (secondary)
http://www.multiupload.com/ZWGKORKUC4 > Clean Sammy (primary) CM7 (secondary)
http://www.multiupload.com/OCAVFNEL0N > MIUI (primary) Clean Sammy (secondary)
http://www.multiupload.com/RO00M8UC7P > CM7 (primary) Clean Sammy (secondary)
Final notes and instruction
Please just boot into ROMs and Recovery as it's shown in the video!!
DONT USE REBOOT TO RECOVERY or similar command because it can make you to be stucked in a single ROM!!!
The most stable ROMs are the one with Sammy ROM as primary just because it requires more space than AOSP but the others runs good as well.
THE SECONDARY OS HAS NOT SO MUCH SPACE!!! So you can't install many apps on it.
This thread is for development only. so if you have a suggestion send me a PM.
If you want me to create other ROMs just ask me and if you have technical problems write here in the thread and I'll try to answer to most of you.
I'll make further development just if I see that it is interesting for you as I am a very busy person!
If you want to edit your preference you can use lolboot app on the market here :
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.lolboot
Credits
-HellcatDroid for his kernel and his precious instructions
-Siyah for the base of this kernel which is able to run on every ROM!!
-CM7 team and MIUI for their beautiful ROMs
-Samsung for his good stock ROM
-LeoMar75 and GadgetCheck (visit CheckROM's thread here)
Enjoy and IF you want to contribute look at my signature and DONATE

Gonna try this!!!:d

To get the TV Out feature, can I use CM7 as primary and Sammy as secondary?

This would be just great for testing out beta/experimental ROMs on one partition without hampering your primary driver.
Good work mate!

Willl try awesome dude

Thank you for the interest guys!!
However sure you can!!
It's uploading...that's what I do...I leave Stock ROM as secondary just for TV out and enjoy the awesomeness of AOSP as primary...
PS More has to come...slighter Stock ROM and better optimized AOSP...if you have any questions or suggestions please let me know!!

EDIT : New ROM Added!!

This seems to be one of the best things happened to SGS II in recent times, awesome!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

what if battery complitly dies ? then can we charge it or it would go to recovery without charge???
and can we change the files inside preload folder with new MIUI (For example change it with the latest update for next week) ( if it's already MIUI ) or not ???
or can we change the main file(Primary files) with new weekly MIUI ( IF it's already miui as primary ) ?

Can this samsung one change to checkrom v4??

Yes...it could...but you should ask the permission to the ROM's dev first...and only then I'll start to make a double ROM with it...
If the battery dies you can attach the charger and it will charge your battery even if it's in recovery...wait some minutes and then reboot...and it's done...
If MIUI or CM7 is PRIMARY you can directly update it with the weekly package provided by the ROM team...it's fair...
if you have MIUI or CM7 as SECONDARY you should change the updater script of the secondary or change the preload dir as you said...
however if there'll be a great interest I'm gonna update it very very frequently...so there'll be no need to do this...
I'm going to make the Samsung ROM much lighter...MIUI or CM7 ROM as PRIMARY is however the best choise if you want to stay up to date with these ROMs...
Cheers dude!
And thank you for the interest shown...

thank you alot...
yes
miui would be a great idea as a primary and sammy as second ...
now...
i'm going to flash this amazing ROM/KERNEL/ ( don't know what should we call it ... but it's great ... )
but one last question ....
if we update through rom updater in the miui what would happend to kernel ???
---------- Post added at 03:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:22 PM ----------
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW...
it's VERY CLEAN... FAST... Without ANY Problem ...
just i should test the Battery/wifi/Bluetooth and ... just because of new kernel ...
thank you so much
keep UP the GOOD and Amazing work...

Quick question: the Japanese SGS2 (the sc-02c) is a bit kernel needy, and thus really only responds to siyah kernel and stock. If I install this rom, but then reflash siyah's kernel, am I just wasting time?

I cant get it work. I am stuck at boot screen.

1 Problem :
for the first time i flashe sammy+miui and every thing goes well
but then i flashed miui+sammy and it's not going to recover as you mentioned at OP
please help...
i don't know what to do...
i want Flash RTL Patch on my miui ( Which is the primary rom for me )

What version of Siyah is being used to power this? Thx.
Also why not link to hellcat's app?

Doesn't work for me either. Installed Sammy as primary as miui as secondary. Phone now only boots into miui whether I hold recovery buttons or not. Also phone does not boot into recovery so I now need to flash back via ODIN.

Lolboot
If anybody has it working could you install lolboot from market and check if it works with it?

Please keep in mind that it's still under development and I need some time to make it work properly...I'm going to put fast link to boot into a OS using a simple command in the other ROM...
Probably you used command like "boot in recovery" or something similar...the kernel made by HellcatDroid is still under dev and need some fixes...
You could just install another normal kernel and go back to recovery with the classic combo...

It's 2.0 however the first thing I made is to link everybody to HellcatDroid thread in which there's a section for his app...
NO OTHER KERNEL ARE SUPPORTED FOR THE MOMENT!
I'm sorry...
I'll continue my development to make it much stabler...for the time being it do need some fixes...I totally agree with you...

Hi there,
First of all thanks a lot for your time (and patience) to cook a sense + 2.3.x based ROM for Nexus One. I will try your ROM later this week and provide feedback.
1 question though, have you added support for track-ball wake in your ROM?

The Rom was build with the two bases and should , after install is working, at least boot up with "some" issues. So we can get ADB Log´s to work with...

Yeah but I think will be more difficult and hard to debug in that way.
I have the same situation as yours (only one phone and use it to work), so when I need to test it, I usually go for 10pm to install at least one time to check if everything is working.

was it to discourage him to stop working?... Isn't that easier that we don't like something then we just move on?
I think OP is in learning phase... Everyone starts with those little mods and gradually gets better and makes new inventions... None is born developer...
Do you even realize that he might have spent hours of trial and error ?...
During this time he might have flashed the ROM atleast 10 times to make sure it looks good and attractive so that users can enjoy a new thing...
All washed by your unthankful comment more like a slap...
Anyway, mate it's a sharing community, share with others and be thankful for anything new you get...

YOu can flash Kernels by flash tools ..
In forum there is already a topic about flashing kernel. But i say fastly. Phone - settings - Applications - Developing - USB Debugging active then
Download flash tools - open it - connect your phone by usb - Click flash - fastboot mode - left upside have restart Fastboot mode and then see the phone light get blue and click flash kernel and choose the kernel you donwload and when you see flashed it s ok ...

Custom ROMs based on AOKP and Slim ROM - no more updates from me

As a "proof of concept" I "ported" a firmware from Galaxy S (AOKP). You can experiment with it, just replace the polisblood_Nightly1.img (and preferably replace data.img and cache.img with the original ones from Mike.)
Of course, there's no modem, and SD Card access, all the previous limitations are in place.
Here you are:
http://www.4shared.com/file/CrYasSiT/polishblood_Nightly1.html
you can use the original kernel, or this one:
http://data.hu/get/5299614/zImage (Chose the "Lassú letöltés" button!)
I will not provide support, it's just an example!
Of course all the credits goes to the AOKP team, Slim ICS team, Mike, Rebellos, oleg_k, nbates66, etc.
Update 07.10: disabling the bootanimation in settings resolve the bootloop problem at second boot (thanks m90ultimate!). I'll try to add the google apps to the firmware, but it's 43 MB...)
Update 07.11: new version uploaded (updated the links). Major changes:
- now it works with empty data.img and cache.img
- bootanimation removed (this fixed the bootloop)
- Google apps added (Google Play)
- brightness setting works
- identifies itself as i9000 (Galaxy S)
Update 07.12: uploaded another rom, this one based on Slim ROM For Galaxy S. Here you are:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/WCKtsykT/slim.html
Update 07.26: deeps_17 created some videos about this ROM, you can find them in post 127 It worth checking it out!
Experiment with it!
Update 07.31.2012: I traded my Wave, there will be no more updates from me... Keep up the good work!
I'll leave the topic open, and the download links will stay, of course.
Why this rom boots so slow? i'm waiting about 5 min and nothing, just aokp bgoot screen :/

[ROM][Live with Walkman][FFB ( Fast From Birth ) Debloated and enhanced ICS]

FFB ( Fast From Birth ) ICS ROM
This is my first work so go easy people and test it slowly, i've only tested on Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman so leave feedback about other devices too !
It is based on the ICS 4.1.B.0.587 version of android ! It is prerooted, zipaligned, busybox included, and signed !
Useless apps and frameworks has been ripped off ( Generally it's a fully debloated Stock ROM ), only basic apps, wallpapers and Radio has been left untouched. I suggest running the V6 Supercharger Script after installing this so that you get the full possible boost.WARNING
This ROM was created for performance and simple phone use so don't expect fancy things like Event Stream or other flashy apps in it !!!
I am NOT responsible for anything that happens to your device when you flash this ! You take full responsibility for your actions and I am not to be held responsible in any possible way !!!

INSIDE the zip file is the edited stock 4.1.B.0.587 boot.img and it includes : CWM Recovery, init.d support, unsecured, App2SD support ! I want to say a big thanks to adridu59 for providing the stock boot.img unsecured, with CWM and with init.d support already in it ! ( proper info and credits below ) !!

Now...off to the GOOD part
To install the ROM:
1) Copy the ROM to your SD-CARD
2) Boot into recovery
2a) wipe data/factory reset
2b) wipe cache
2c) wipe Dalvik Cache
2d) wipe /system
3) Flash the zip file
If you face any problems with the installation try reverting back to Stock ICS and then flashing the ROM.
Use it with Stock or Stock-based kernels ( I have tested with Lupus kernel, RAGE kernel and a few other stock based ! ).

Ummm...I don't own a LWW but your OP is full of errors :/ ...
1.)V6 Supercharger needs modified services.jar and I dont see the point in running script without it .
2.)init.d support is available on both BLs ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417375&highlight=init+d ..
3.)It's pointless to have a custom kernel on an unlocked bootloader without recovery ...you cant "install" recovery on Xperia MDPI ...
4.)ROM Manager doesnt work on Xperia devices ,it never worked before ,it doesnt work now
5.)No clear install instructions for each Bootloader
well, at least sumbody created a new rom after a while no devs does. Keep up your good work, fix the Op like the man above me said n please make a clean n clear explanation so you don't make regular people like me gettin confused.

1.) V6 Supercharger works just fine without the modified services.jar, all you lose is the launcher strength, but you still get the Low memory killer values and kernel and all other little tweaks.
2.) Yes but without an unlocked bootloader you still get the STOCK kernel and there is no way of getting TRUE init.d support without the customized one, at least that's waht i've seen as long as i've been using my phone
3.) You can install recovey and i'm pretty sure about it. I' ve tested this.
4.) Are you sure about this ?? :\ And i say again i've tested all my instructions
5.) What do you mean clear instructions ? It's pretty easy You a) open flashtool b) connect your phone to fastboot mode and then c) flash the kernel BUT it's not like i'm here to teach anyone how to do this, it's a custom ROM people you should know what to do with it
Gsm/Wcdma bug not fixed.
Led notifications not fixed.
Status bar network icon bug.
Xperia home fc when ever you try moving a widget.
Performed all cleans, wipes and formats before flashing.

1.)Whatever...
2)No such thing as true init.d and false init.d as long as script is initialized on boot...
3.)Xperia MDPI has no recovery partition so you cant install recovery .I mapped the partition layout of SK17i(which is same as all other Xperia MDPI) so yes I am pretty much confident ...
Locked BLs have Pseudo recovery which vanishes on ROM installations and dont allow format systems from update script
Unlocked BLs use Custom Boot.img with Dual Ramdisks .
4.)I am pretty sure ROM Manager doesn't work since flash_image wont work ...It will just hard brick the device or do nothing at all .....
5.)You dont have clear instructions ....Check Other threads and you will see ...All ROMs have clear instructions for Locked and unlocked Bootloaders ...
According to your instructions locked bootloader peeps wont be able to use it due to lack of fastboot ...
Also the kernel is pointless since I doubt anyone with Unlocked BL will use a kernel without Dual Ramdisk/recovery Support. "True init.d " is ok but it's not as useful as Hard Recovery for which we unlocked Bootloaders
TBH ,I think ,you don't own the device or you have just owned it AND you are coming from an LG or HTC device ...The install instructions are more in line of an HTC/LG device rather than an Xperia Device ...

Thank you for reporting these i will fix them ASAP and sorry for missing instructions, i do own the device it's just that i never actually had a locked bootloader :\ I unlocked first thing so it's hard for me :\ I will try this with both BLs and try fixing the bugs.

If you read the title, you'll see this ROM is only for LWW
Maybe I can take dev files from another ICS Rom, however it is good to have a stock .587 flashable zip with all bugs fixed (ok, except GSM/WCDMA net on reboot). If the developer won't update the links are there other projects like this? Or maybe someone can give me the links of all fixes for ICS?
Link fixed !
Yep, ROM has been tested ONLY on LWW but there is a slight chance it will work on other 2011 Xperia mdpi...not sure though !
New files UPLOADED now !!! ( They're only temporary since I plan on making a few enhancements, try them and let me know of the bugs that come up !
Also how do you see the idea of changing the default launcher ?

[Rom][Linaro][All-F2FS][28-05-2014] Resurrection Remix v5.1.3

Hey guys what's up
I just wanted to post this to make it easier for people moving to the F2FS scene.
The rom is officially from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...m-resurrection-remix-4-4-2-kitkat-v5-t2706610
But then with the All-F2FS included with a custom kernel.
First of all this will wipe your Cache, System and Data partition.
If you're feeling not really safe formatting all these partitions to a different format because it might bricks orsomething just get a USB stick and your good to go
The thing with F2FS is that it requires the ROM to be compatible but also the Kernel.
If the kernel is not supporting it but the ROM is then Cache will not be mounted! or your kitten will be eaten
First download all the requires files from here: https://mega.co.nz/#!JJZgAJpa!cWSnKkKJtldaIianGisyuV7OQ9vp4Lpje4PFQUTvX8Y
The .rar contains the following:
boot.img <- custom boot.img if not flashed it will not boot!
FormatPartitions-mako <- thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/recovery-twrp-2-7-0-0-f2fs-support-t2746030
linaro.Kernel-nightly-r51-linaro <- custom kernel provided by http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...ernel-linaro-kernel-r32-3-4-76-4-4-2-t2527130
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-hammerhead-All-F2FS-2.img <- TWRP with F2FS support
pa_gapps <- just the google apps, made no modifications to it
Resurrection_Remix_KK_v5.1.3-20140526-hammerhead <- the ROM, repacked with F2FS
fastboot-windows <- Provided by ChainFire
Ok so when you have that downloaded let's begin shall we :victory:
1. Backup your SD Card data to your pc as this will get wiped!
2. Copy all the files you downloaded to your internal sd card.
3. Go into the bootloader (hold volume lower + power)
4. On your pc Open CMD and go to the Fastboot directory
5. Now type "fastboot-windows flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-hammerhead-All-F2FS-2.img", file not found ? drag/drop the TWRP recovery
6. Wait for it to show DONE, now reboot into recovery
7. Flash the FormatPartitions.zip, from this point it will format your Cache and System to F2FS
8. Reboot again but in recovery, do NOT do a simple reboot/shutdown or reboot into system as this will keep bootlooping untill you've reformated or flashed stock rom
Flashing part, do NOT wipe cache/dalvik etc!
9. Flash Resurrection_Remix_KK_v5.1.3-20140526-hammerhead.zip
10. Flash pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20140517-signed.zip
11. FLash linaro.Kernel-nightly-r51-linaro.zip
12. Go back to the main menu and hit the wipe button, now do a Data Partition Wipe (button at the right) and type in "yes" and hit enter, it will now Format your Data partition to F2FS
13. Now reboot into Bootloader, hitting excidently reboot to system ? turn the phone off and reboot into bootloader
14. Now let's flash the boot.img to fix the bootloops, or you must be a lover of the startup animation :victory:
15. Go back to your CMD and type in "fastboot-windows flash boot boot.img", file not found ? drag/drop the boot.img
16. Well at this point you're able to reboot and say hello to F2FS with linaro :victory:
17. When booted simply follow the installs steps or just keep pressing continue...
18. Go into settings -> developer options, scrolldown and switch from DALVIK to ART, will even speed it up more :victory:
If you're afraid you can't go back to EXT4 (official), no worries you can go back to EXT4 by flashing the stock rom/firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701?
The boot.img provided above is only for CM/CAF roms and shall not be used on different rom's like AOSP !
I hope you liked this tutorial, have fun :good:
umm... did i even test this..? cos its just impossible to boot with linaro kernel.
It doesnt support f2fs and the most important part is its a kenel meant for AOSP not for CM/CAF which u stated as the ROM to be.
And exchange step14 with step11. Flashing AOSP kernel on CM based ROM is causing the bootloop.
And for step16, if u really got linaro to boot on cm based rom u must be GOD.

Uploading now a different repacked version, accidently uploaded my wrong build of the rom
But no clue for the AOSP kernel (on kernel thread it stated CM), It booted for me and it's sooo fast :victory:
Re-uploaded the files, please try this

Oh yea it says CAF My bad. But its impossible if u dont mod the ramdisk and just download it from the original thread as it doesnt support f2fs (now dont say "in the thread its written f2fs supported")
Im just saying to cause less confusion for the ones who r not used to f2fs

Rom doesnt matter. Yes it matters but read again. Im not stating anything about the rom. The thing im trying to convince to u is that the kernel just wont work if u download it from the original thread as u stated the link to the original linaro kernel thread

That's true which even I noticed, that why you have to flash the boot.img to make it work again
Everything is included in the download above from MEGA so following the steps should simply work

.... flashing that boot.img will just remove all linaro kernel stuff and itll just end up with flashing boot.img (which i suppose its dennes544 cm kernel)
Just take a screenie of the about phone (Kernel Version).
and did u build the rom again with linaro toolchain, or just put [Linaro] in ur thread title cos it involves in flashing linaro kernel?

I agree with you.
Just tried and found that the ROM don't support f2fs all.
Converted the ROM and used charizardx caf f2fs all with no boot.
There is some thing wrong with your ROM man.

I'm using f2fs 4 month ago, converted dozen rom to work with f2fs.
Used all kernel with f2fs support.
Why this rom cannot be converted, there is some thing wrong.
For you knowing :
- i converted original rom from original thread
- no linaro with caf and f2fs
- ART is broken on f2fs
Good day, my last post in this thread
Just bring the post down. U lack basic knowledge such as flashing a kernel.
U just taking others work and posting it.
And still my questions r not answered.
I wonder if u really tested it urself.
Pls post a screenshot of ur about phone running with linaro r51v3. Cos its not possible from the first place.
Ur thread title is also an error. Its not the kernel that u can just put [Linaro]. U have to complie the ROM with linaro toolchain again. If u meant it that way anyone can post others ROM and linaro kernel saying as linaro ROM which just don't make sense..
