[Q] Data broken on Ace after CyanogenMod installed - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

So on the weekend I installed CyanogenMod (7.1 R2.2) on my Koodo Samsung Galaxy Ace. After i got all the bugs worked out (and got it to stably connect to Koodo for voice/sms), I actually started liking it (apart from the battery life drain it seems to cause.) But today I just noticed...Data has not been working since I updated it.
Of course, at home on the weekend, I had data turned off, using wi-fi. But now at work, whether I try 2G or 3G, doesn't matter, I no longer have a data connection.
Help! I spent several days working on this, I'm not sure I want to use another ROM again...

Try to configure manual you APN's.

That's already done. Without it, I wasn't even getting voice/SMS.

Okay, before I embark on my first use of Odin tonight, can anyone tell me if this baseband version issue....
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/kood...tab-50-gc-pcms-75-gc-1103854/32/#post13888955
...might be the fix for my data and flaky voice/SMS issues?
(Thanks to Kevinlekiller).

What baseband are you on? , Settings - about phone.
5830D ( canadian galaxy ace ) doesn't seem to work good with anything other than TLKI4

Gah. It's already on TLKI4.
So that's not the problem. I need to find another fix for my lack of data and constant service disconnections. I may eventually try another ROM..CM7 is purrty, but the battery life and network stability are not good with Koodo.

Do i need to just configure apn?

I am on Koodo too, and had the same trouble.
Go to: Wireless and Networks - Mobile Networks - Network Operators - Search Networks - Select "Telus" or "302220"
Next you'll need to configure your APN: Wireless and Networks - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names - Hit the Settings button - New APN - use the settings below exactly!

Try toggling airplane mode. Other than that I would suggest trying a different Rom. I am using cm7.1 RC1 Cooper griff 07. Works great. If that doesn't work let me know...

im using RC 2. Is there a way for me to get the stock rom back. i forgot to back it up
---------- Post added at 04:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 AM ----------
i noticed that i can only call when the 3g icon appears on the notif. bar. This only happens when i toggle airplane mode about 3 or 4 times. EVEN after that it only lasts for about 30 second to go to the dialer and make a call. So basically i have to toggle 3 or 4 time and then i have to make a call in under 30 seconds.
I am really hating this. WHAt rom would you reccomend for me?

Most people like icecream Sunday final+speed blur by jusada. I have tried it and it seems to work well.
Also, You don't happen to have the 2g only button clicked do you? That causes the phone to not connect. Just a last idea...
Oh and to avoid any trouble, make sure you use Odin or cwm5 for galaxy ace if you're flashing BTW. And you need to use Odin to flash a stock ROM.
You can also get the Samsung firmware from sammobile.com, but you need to make a free account first. You can just use a European ROM, I think you can upgrade to 2.3.6 by flashing the ROM for Nordic countries.

thank you for all your help. I changed my rom to RC1 and it works like a charm. The only problem i have is that there is no android market.
I have one more question:
Has anyone tried the ics alpha rom? How is it?

You'll need to download GAPPS for the Ace. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380800 if you look closely here you'll see the GAPPS for your ROM under the "how to install" section. Just do the install from zip option in CWM5 and you are set.
I have tried each ICS alpha along the way. They are okay if you disable all screen animations under developer tools. Still the screen is kinda laggy and glitchy, not really a daily user. But, it is getting close. I mostly use my phone as a MP3 player without the stock headset, but currently it only works with the 4 pin stock headphones. Furthermore, the browser and market do not work yet. Keyboard is cut off at the bottom, but you can install a third party one that works fine. Other than that I don't know much else to say about it. It looks pretty.
EDIT: I am trying now the latest release (Legacy7.zip) in which the browser is supposed to work!
EDIT2: I am actually very impressed with this one. Looks nice, feels nice, and is quite smooth. I might keep it for a while!

I just installed legacy 7 too. It seems very nice (I just hope they get the camera working soon :/)
Did you get calling and sms working though?

What if the Rogers phone was baseband 14? Would you still use the baseband 20? Rogers hasn't released 20 yet.
yeh I used the second version
and it was fast and easy
also you'll be happy you rooted it cause the performance and battery life is waaayy better than the ****y stock firmware that Rogers gave us.

it's not going to say x10a anymore. I've done all root methods and my connection has never failed. just put in your apn settings internet.com user - wapuser1 -pass = wap
done. online and 3G works
roby can you download stuff with your 3g connection after root, I can browse internet but when I try to download it just hangs at downloading I set up the internet.com settings
The APN settings didn't seem to be correct on mine. It was that internet.com thing that everybody seems to use when I googled it, but that's not what came on my phone. It worked, but I was unable to access the android market, seesmic wouldn't load any new tweets, etc. The only thing that seemed to work was the browser.
I happened to have saved the APN settings before rooting, so I switched back to them. I had:
Name: Rogers Internet
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC:302
MNC: 720
Everything else: <Not Set>
That fixed me right up. I'm not sure if it's due to my region (south-western ontario, London specifically) or if it's something with my data plan, but the recommended APN settings (internet.com) only allowed access through my browser and seesmic, listen, gmail, etc all complained about not having network access. If you're having similar issues, try that. Also, make sure to test your network connection in something other than your browser to make sure it's really working correctly, because I was showing 3G with the internet.com APN.

Do step 5 from post #4. Your device will say X10a after that.
How can we get the market to work properly?
I wanted that new TD bank app, but can't get it now because of UK firmware.
I got market enabler, but it seems you have to manually add some settings?

I have the latest build and the internet settings from sony erricson (Settings->Sony Erricson->Internet Settings, works with other providers for me (have tested this) so I think it is all working, does nothing happen when you try to download the internet settings on your neo? it should automatically connect the new settings with this menu. hope that helps any-way. let us know what happens and will see if we can get the manual settings if this doesn't help.

I don't know about your Cellphone Network Provider but over here we can send them an SMS with a certain code to a certain number and then automatically send the correct settings as a reply...perhaps check if your provider has such a facility?
So have you tried the settings download though? did anything happen when you tried this option? rather then editing the entries or resetting to defaults?
Most providers do have the sms code option for internet settings too or you can go into the shop and get someone to help you with your internet settings as well.
Good luck either way.

[How To] Fix T-Mobile Tethering

Alright guys. Just an hour ago I received a message from T-Mobile saying that they blocked my tethering and that I had to pay for that. Screw that. I found a way to fix it.
Prerequisites:
Rooted Phone on GB / ICS
Data Plan
Wireless Tether For Root Users app, download it from here.
New APN (For T-Mobile USA users)
We will create an APN (also works with MMS). Go to Settings -> Mobile Network -> Access Point Names. Press the menu button and press New APN. Type the following.
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy:
Port:
Username: (leave this blank)
Password: (leave this blank)
Server: (leave this blank)
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy:
MMS Port:
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: (leave this blank)
Click to collapse
Press Save APN. After that, do the following.
1. Install the app.
2. Open WiFi Tether.
3. Press the Menu Button.
4. Click Settings.
5. Click "Change Device-Profile".
6. If you are on Gingerbread, choose your Actual Device!
6.1 If you are on Ice Cream Sandwich, choose "Generic ICS".
7. If you are on T-Mobile, Scroll down and MUST select "Routing Fix".
7.1 Depending on your Carrier, you may need to select Routing Fix.
8. Tether away! (Just don't go over your data!)

Didn't work for me. Even rebooted the laptop and phone. Tried USB and wireless both. Maybe I will google for "wap.voicetream.com/net" I remember years ago that worked... back when I used a Handspring Visor, LOL.
Don't know if it matters:
I have the "unlimited" 5G plan. I have a SGS4G phone, use Team Acid's ICBINB rom, and antonx's KJ6 kernel version 1.1.0. The phone is (of course) rooted.
Here are screenshots
I forgot to add that I usr wireless tether for root users. Not the built in hotspot.

Thanks for the help
I double checked the setings from your screen shot. Mine are the same, still no go. Deleted browser cache (Chrome) and restarted browser (again). No go. Tried "wap.voicestream.com" and "internet2.voicestream.com" still no-go.
I am using the hotspoy app that came with the team acid icbinb rom, which I believe is stock SS or Android. I will look on the market for "wireless tether for root users and see if that helps".
Hasoon did you try leaving everything blank except mmsc and apn? That's my current apn set up, I can't confirm the hotspot since I have the 5GB data with free tethering.

Sorry, not exactly related to topic.
I was wondering, does 5GB data come with free tethering always or you were lucky to get it for free?
I have preferred Android plan.
Creating a whole new apn isnt necessary at all. This is already all over the forum =). All you ever have to do is delete everything out of the "apn type" field of the default apn like so -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPaIpdSuCe0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Why go through all the trouble when this method takes a matter of seconds and works like a charm on every single Rom I've ever tested it on? =)

Actually you are mistaken. Currently speaking, tethering comes automatically with the 5 or 10 gig options.
If you think t mobile pricing is unreasonable, you should try having service with Verizon, or any carrier not t mobile for that matter he he he =)
That's weird. It's worked for me on 6 different roms, and also worked for BOTH of my co workers on completely stock Amaze's. I think something may have been missed, but since your current method works I guess there's no point in figuring that out I guess =)

I can explain the "REQ Pref Android Web". There were 2 types Android data plans. (Now they just call it smartphone web or something like) One Req and an Android web. If you bought a phone on contract or did an upgrade, they added the Required data so you can't remove it. If you brought a phone in and wanted to activate or bought the phone outright, you are not required to keep the data and can remove it whenever.
It doesn't relate to the question, but just wanted to throw that out there lol.

http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/25504?start=15&tstart=0
Only the $14.99 tethering plan and the very recent amendments to the 5GB and 10GB plans have explicitly allowed use.
To AndroidAutobot:
I was wondering, do you see tethering is included in your services list on myTmobile?

[Q] Functional GPS after using many ROMs but back to stock rooted JB

Has anyone been able to get GPS working again after trying snowleopard rom, cm 10.1, and the chaos rom before finally ending up back on the rooted stock jb rom that was provided?

Finally got mine working yesterday. Ended up deleting all of the APNs not being used and rebooted. Started working after that.

Followed the instructions and was able to get GPS working. Instead of flashing SlickJB, I was able to flash stock JB and get it working.

Thank you gentlemen for your suggestions. I cannot delete the factory apn, or edit it. I saw there was a mod to remove it, but it's been removed. Anyone know another way to remove/edit it?
As for the steps people have been having success with, after following the steps, it not only still doesn't work, but I don't ever even see the GPS signal in the status bar.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

I had the same issue. Couldn't even see the GPS symbol in the status bar. But following those instructions got it working for me.

Flash your nandroid of cm. Once it boots up, wipe cache and davlik, then flash the 33 modem. If you don't have one do a clean install of cm, flash gapps, then flash the 33 modem. Go into your APN settings. Delete all of the ones in there except the one you are using. Reboot and let me know if that works.

The jb and/or 33 works. 33 displays att instead of maritime. That's the only difference I have noticed.

I deleted all of the APNs except for 'ATT Phone'. Not sure if that is the default one or not. If it is not, you can simply edit the default one that can not be deleted and just make it identical to 'ATT Phone'. The info for that apn is on xda somewhere but here it is just in case....
Name: ATT Phone
APN: phone
Proxy: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: None
APN type: default, mms, supl,hipri,fota
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enaled
Bearer: Unspecified
Reboot after changes are made. Then install "GPS Status" app if you are not using that already. Turn off WiFi and 'WiFi & mobile network location'. Then test GPS using that app to see if it detects gps/sats.
This worked for me and I had the same symptom you are having. My thinking is that it was not happy with the other apns being in there. Which makes sense because stock/slick/snow roms are built off of stock and they only have one apn.

GPS on this phone seems to be kind of a mystery.
I have been using TWRP since day one, I've run CFX from original development, as well as SnowJB, Stock ATT 20j, SlickJB, Rootbox, CarbonRom, AOKP and CM10.1 from android development, and now LiquidSmooth, and I have NEVER had an issue with GPS. It actually locks faster than my 2010 tomtom (350LMT?). I have never taken any action toward ensuing that my GPS works aside from running GPS status after flashing a new rom.

Same.
On two occasions I was unable to get a lock. Once I had WiFi disabled, so I enabled it, got a lock, then proceeded to disable WiFi and haven't had an issue since. The next time I simply walked outside of the building I was in, and instant lock.

Yeah, literally the only issues I have EVER had with my GPS have been caused directly by the building I was in.
I did have an issue with HSPA not wanting to connect once after flashing an NFC fix, but even that was temporary. On that note though, I have yet to be able to get NFC to work on an AOSP rom.
EDIT: NFC works fine on LiquidSmooth. Did not even turn on with Rootbox or CarbonRom.
Yeah my issue is that I don't even see the GPS icon in the status bar. Nothing. The only time I get a lock is when I enable help from wifi and cell signals.
It is really frustrating because almost every ROM I use the GPS works, but as soon as I go back to stock rooted JB GPS is gone.
I'm beginning to think that my file structure might be the culprit. I have multiple sdcard directories (labaled 0,1, etc.) and several erroneous ext_card directories. I'm thinking I might have to just scrub the entire phone and restore it to bone stock, update JB OTA, and root it, to get it working, but I would really like to avoid this, as it's a butt ton of work.

so I am happy to report that I finally got gps working again. for me it involved going completely back to stock (via LGNPST). then following the slick rom guidance for fixing gps and actually flashing slick ROM. at the end when gps was working in slick ROM I flashed stock jb again and behold it was working. the key step here for me was flashing back to stock.
thanks to all who helped me with this process!

I woulnd delete the att APN then.
Just choose your newly created APN for ST.
AND.. when finished creating your new APN,
dont forget to "SAVE" it.
When in your new APN settings, tap the bottom left "menu" next to the home hard button.. Menu/save...
Then go back and chose the ST apn.
Put a green dot in it then press back back back to home.
You may have to wait a few seconds for it to start the new data flow.
Good Luck

I get about 8 mbps down and 1.5 up.....It's 3g speeds basically...They state they have LTE/4G but I wouldn't hold to that one...I have never seen it yet...This what I would do...I would call and ask them if you're on the att.mvno or the tfdata mvno....If you have the newer sim on the BYOP plan..they tend to push you on the tfdata side...The att.mvno is for the older sims they were selling at get go...Also...check your mcc and mnc and see if it shows 310 for mcc and 410 for mnc...If it shows 260 for mcc that means it's a T-Mobile sim and you'll have to change the mms settings for T-Mobile...

You can also go here and put in your number and choose android 4.0/4.1 and it should also tell you what server you should be using...
http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/support/apn#.UyxRMuXru_c
One thing I will add...I had the same similar problems with the mms on my GT-N7000 and what I did was added the settings and saved and rebooted the phone...It would sit there after rebooted sending pictures...but for some reason it takes the server about 5 minutes to identify your service and settings and finally it'll start pushing them through...
An another thing just came to mind...Under Authentication type set it for PAP and CHAP.And add default, supl, mms under APN type..Now down at the bottom set Bearer to Unspecified then save..If you have it set for LTE it won't work...Been there done that one...

Thanks Sugarman. ... yeah, I bought my Sim kit @ Walmart 3 weeks ago.
I used the att variant because I have the 9205. No LTE either because my hardware doesn't support ATT's frequency for LTE.
And im in the "tf-data" APN settings.
Good enough for the price.
Do you know if T-Mobile's no contract 50 a month plan has the LTE frequencies compatible with the 9205?
Thanks

I know it has the 1700mhz band in the service menu...Can't say if it will work for sure...To access it...go to phone..and hit *#0011# hit your menu button and hit key input..Type 1..then back...Hit menu again and hit back again...Then it you should see a menu with phone control listed hit that and you can see supported bands etc...One thing...since the last OTA update and Knox was added...My i9200 won't go in to the service menu now..but before it would with this method...
